Re: The First Review For The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Is Now In

roboshort

@Rob3008 Unlike games like Skyrim, Skyward Sword's mechanics have not been built upon too much in the last 10 years since gaming went away from motion controls. So it should do fine in terms of reviews as long as the improvements are good enough. Also, its innovations should not be overlooked even if it has aged.

I'd expect it to get around a 90 Metacritic score.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles Developer Monolith Soft Reports Huge Profits, Up By 138.2%

roboshort

@HeadPirate It would depend on the code. The thing is the XB port to the Switch contained major upgrades to assets and other QOL improvements and an expansion.
If the code is well written and modular it won’t matter too much if they used tricks on the WiiU.

Here’s what we know. Most first party WiiU games have been ported to the Switch. XBC2 uses an upgraded version of the engine used for XBX. Most major first party titles from the WiiU have been ported to the Switch. They’d likely get a much better ROI in it than developing a new title

I don’t give much weight to what developers say because they will hide such info out of the interest of the company.

I dunno though. We may not see it. But that’d be a surprise to me. I guess we’ll find out sometime

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles Developer Monolith Soft Reports Huge Profits, Up By 138.2%

@HeadPirate It selling fewer than 1 million is even more reason to port it. The port would likely sell somewhere between 1 and 1.5 million copies which would help them a lot with investing in future projects.

The biggest difficulty with porting X would be how to handle the gamepad functionality and adding in the much needed QoL improvements. But it would still be cheaper to port than Xenoblade Chronicles 1. The ROI of porting a WiiU/Wii 1st party game can be huge. Looking at the impact of porting Xenoblade Chronicles 1 will show that.

Re: Feature: 30 Hours Into The Game With A Higher Metascore Than Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

roboshort

@LXP8 Personally I like both styles and can understand if BOTW is not one of your favorites. I’d say there is a difference between adventure and exploration though.

Adventure is more event focused and about overcoming trials/challenges placed in front of you as you press forward. Exploration is more focused on discovery and understanding.

In terms of exploration, there may not be a better game than BOTW as you have to really gain a deep understanding of the underlying mechanics of the world to get the most out of it. There is a lot more to do than find the next korok seed. But it doesn’t do adventure as well as many other Zelda titles.

Maybe Nintendo will include more of what fans of older Zeldas enjoy in the next game.

Re: Feature: 30 Hours Into The Game With A Higher Metascore Than Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

roboshort

@LXP8 Breath of the Wild is an exploration game. The degree of exploration had greatly declined since the first Zelda and BOTW was a return to its roots.

If you have the type of personality that doesn't like exploration, though, you will probably not enjoy it as much as more structured games. This is not a problem with BOTW, though. It is just your personal preference.

I do think they will continue to make old style Zelda games, but they'll probably reserve that style for the top-down view entries.

Re: Former Star Fox Programmer Would Be Interested In Making A New Entry Without The "Gimmicks"

roboshort

@nessisonett Sin and Punishment for the Wii may be getting a little old now but it showed you can still make a great on-rails shooter. It is just necessary to have engaging scenarios. Games like Gears of War and Call pf Duty are also pretty close to being on rails... though the series are both stale now

I think Star Fox should be dialed back but they should also innovate in more interesting ways. There is so much inspiration that can be taken from space that I don’t think it should be hard to innovate.

Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course

roboshort

@Yosher From this review, it sounds like the foundation in Mario Golf is not good because the main gimmick, "rushing", just didn't work out. It looks like they probably don't understand what makes golfing fun, which is the environments and the feeling of hitting the ball well. Camelot should have focused on providing innovation in those two areas making interesting terrains/environmental effects which would require skill in hitting the ball well.

Splatoon started out with a great foundation so each update was exciting. Aces started out with a decent foundation and became a good game eventually.

Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course

roboshort

@Yosher Splatoon wasn't really a "release now, fix later" type situation. It was a release now, expand later. The initial version was really good and had a solid foundation, just needed to be bolstered by more content.

This is more along the lines of Camelot's previous release, Mario Tennis Aces, which was "release now, fix later".

Re: Potential Switch Port Round-Up - The Wii U Games That Haven't Come To Switch

roboshort

@Otoemetry It could be transferred but the experience will suffer. I played the Witcher 3 after Xenoblade X and the experience was considerably worse not having the gamepad. Having a map in your hands is a godsend for open world games. Especially Xenoblade X where there is so much information and interaction with the map.

Don’t get me wrong though, I do hope they port it and fix some of the issues with it.

Re: Potential Switch Port Round-Up - The Wii U Games That Haven't Come To Switch

roboshort

A Xenoblade X port seems quite likely to me. I can't see why they would not port it other than the engine running better on the WiiU than the Switch.
I just hope it is not a straight port and they find some ways to improve upon it. Though the loss of the gamepad functionality will hurt it somewhat.

I'd also like to see a remaster of Star Fox Zero ported.

Re: Nintendo's Share Price Drops 6% Following E3 2021 Direct Broadcast And Switch Pro No-Show

roboshort

@6thHorizon I know it can appear like that sometimes, but I think Nintendo does still try to push the envelope with many of its big releases. Almost everything from EPD does. So far as new IP goes, In the past few years they’ve released stuff like Arms, Ring Fit Adventure, Labo, Mario Kart Live Circuit, all of which were quite creative endeavors. They’ve also funded creative projects like Snipperclips and Good Job.

It is hard in today’s gaming market to release really original products cause games cost too much to make and the risk is too big. But Nintendo still does a better job of it than Sony, who wants to make cinema-like experiences and definitely Microsoft, who I think doesn’t have much of a vision.

Re: Feature: Nintendo's Most Iconic E3 Moments

roboshort

@NEStalgia I agree somewhat.
Yeah.. this is a side effect of choosing business people rather than product people to run a company. Furukawa unfortunately does not seem to be a product-minded person. I think investors tend to be wary of product-minded leaders and I guess Nintendo going into the doldrums between 2012 and 2015 lead to Furukawa becoming CEO. Although I strongly doubt the Switch would have been conceived under his leadership.

I don't agree entirely, though, cause we do get moments like Miyamoto showing us Super Nintendo World.

Re: Random: Remember That Zelda HD Tech Demo For Wii U? It's Now 10 Years Old

roboshort

@TheGioGrande I agree it's great they learned from their mistake. It was still a mistake, though. The mistake was that Nintendo created a solution without defining the problem they were trying to solve. This is different from the approach they took with the DS/Wii and the Switch, where they were trying to solve a problem.

The WiiU gamepad actually does solve problems as can be seen from Splatoon, Mario Maker, and Xenoblade X, but the problems it solves in those games were not present in much of Nintendo's first party lineup.

They should have lead with games like those, Zelda, Metroid, Fire Emblem, real-time strategy games, etc.

Re: Video: 100 Amazing Wii Games In 20 Minutes

roboshort

@kingbk The Wii had far better 3rd party exclusives than the Switch though. Like it's no contest.. In terms of 3rd party, the Switch only really shines when it comes to indie titles.

There are a lot of interesting first party exclusives on the Wii as well. I think those types of games would do much better on the Switch so I wish Nintendo would experiment more.

Re: Monster Hunter Rise Has Now Shipped Over Seven Million Copies Worldwide

roboshort

@Heavyarms55 Yeah. And I think the evidence shows 3rd Party games do do well on the Switch. I think the top indie games are multimillion sellers on the console. And the last time I checked, indies are 3rd Party. And games like Minecraft, Dragon Quest 11, Octopath, Story of Seasons, Momotaro have all done well too.

Monster Hunter Rise has taken it to the next level, though. I think Stories 2 and the new Resident Evil which leaked will also do well.

Re: Review: Miitopia - A Daft DIY Adventure With Boundless Appeal, If You Make The Effort

roboshort

@rockodoodle I can understand if the first party games Nintendo is putting out don’t appeal to you. That may make it feel like they aren’t putting out anything new.

They are putting out new games. And remakes are essentially new games. Or at least much closer to it than ports or remasters are.

The latter half of the year is usually much better so I hope it will be this year too. I think the first half of this year is the second best first half for the Switch next to 2017, though
