A Xenoblade X port seems quite likely to me. I can't see why they would not port it other than the engine running better on the WiiU than the Switch.
I just hope it is not a straight port and they find some ways to improve upon it. Though the loss of the gamepad functionality will hurt it somewhat.
I'd also like to see a remaster of Star Fox Zero ported.
@6thHorizon I know it can appear like that sometimes, but I think Nintendo does still try to push the envelope with many of its big releases. Almost everything from EPD does. So far as new IP goes, In the past few years they’ve released stuff like Arms, Ring Fit Adventure, Labo, Mario Kart Live Circuit, all of which were quite creative endeavors. They’ve also funded creative projects like Snipperclips and Good Job.
It is hard in today’s gaming market to release really original products cause games cost too much to make and the risk is too big. But Nintendo still does a better job of it than Sony, who wants to make cinema-like experiences and definitely Microsoft, who I think doesn’t have much of a vision.
@6thHorizon Really light on heavy hitters, but the first party titles announced mostly looked good to me in the Treehouse presentation.
For 1st party they announced Metroid Dread, Mario Party Superstars, Cruis'n Blast, Advanced Wars remake, Warioware.. all for this year. And they all look solid so far.
@locky-mavo Microsoft has some nice looking games, but like nothing they showed looks interesting.
Microsoft seems to neuter all the developers they purchase. Even Obsidian is just gonna release another Outer Worlds title and Inxile will also put out an FPS RPG.
@jon625 Good point. WiiUs may get really expensive. I never really considered that. I prefer digital but what you said has me a little worried and makes me think Steam may be the better option for non-exclusives… though I probably won’t go that route.
@fafonio I wouldn’t call FE basic but yeah, it’s a strategy RPG so I wouldn’t expect the strategy part to be developed as much as a pure strategy game.
@Jmjfrank They localized Last Story. It is a Nintendo IP developed by Mistwalker, though. XSeed is a subsidiary of Marvelous so I think most of what they localize are Marvelous games.
@Desrever @kaiofelipe Child of Light is a really unique JRPG. Probably one of Ubisoft's best games in recent times. The main problem is that it's quite easy. I think there is a hard mode so I recommend you play it on that.
@NEStalgia I agree somewhat. Yeah.. this is a side effect of choosing business people rather than product people to run a company. Furukawa unfortunately does not seem to be a product-minded person. I think investors tend to be wary of product-minded leaders and I guess Nintendo going into the doldrums between 2012 and 2015 lead to Furukawa becoming CEO. Although I strongly doubt the Switch would have been conceived under his leadership.
I don't agree entirely, though, cause we do get moments like Miyamoto showing us Super Nintendo World.
@TheGioGrande I agree it's great they learned from their mistake. It was still a mistake, though. The mistake was that Nintendo created a solution without defining the problem they were trying to solve. This is different from the approach they took with the DS/Wii and the Switch, where they were trying to solve a problem.
The WiiU gamepad actually does solve problems as can be seen from Splatoon, Mario Maker, and Xenoblade X, but the problems it solves in those games were not present in much of Nintendo's first party lineup.
They should have lead with games like those, Zelda, Metroid, Fire Emblem, real-time strategy games, etc.
@BenAV It would suck if there were 10 years between Mario Kart games, though. It’s hard to count Tour and Home Circuit. The Mario Kart team must be working on something. And their last title was Arms so they should be nearing the end of development on something
@BenAV It would sell a huge amount but I’m becoming doubtful we’ll see MK9 on the Switch unless the Pro is a good sized revision. MK is best to bring out at the start of the system’s lifespan cause it is Nintendo’s biggest IP.
@kingbk The Wii had far better 3rd party exclusives than the Switch though. Like it's no contest.. In terms of 3rd party, the Switch only really shines when it comes to indie titles.
There are a lot of interesting first party exclusives on the Wii as well. I think those types of games would do much better on the Switch so I wish Nintendo would experiment more.
@Heavyarms55 Yeah. And I think the evidence shows 3rd Party games do do well on the Switch. I think the top indie games are multimillion sellers on the console. And the last time I checked, indies are 3rd Party. And games like Minecraft, Dragon Quest 11, Octopath, Story of Seasons, Momotaro have all done well too.
Monster Hunter Rise has taken it to the next level, though. I think Stories 2 and the new Resident Evil which leaked will also do well.
The NES titles leave a lot to be desired. The NES has a lot of gems that are not on their online service yet like Battle of Olympus, Star Tropics, Baseball Stars, Faxanadu, Guardian Legend and so on.. The SNES online service also has quite a few bad titles
@rockodoodle I can understand if the first party games Nintendo is putting out don’t appeal to you. That may make it feel like they aren’t putting out anything new.
They are putting out new games. And remakes are essentially new games. Or at least much closer to it than ports or remasters are.
The latter half of the year is usually much better so I hope it will be this year too. I think the first half of this year is the second best first half for the Switch next to 2017, though
@rockodoodle Nintendo is putting out new content, though. They’ve got three new games coming out next month, though I am not in the least interested in that DC Super Girl’s game or whatever it’s called. And they just put out the Famicom Detective Club remakes and Pokemon Snap Plus, there’s 3rd party exclusives
@larryisanassman That reasoning makes a lot of sense to me. Thanks. An indie game is a game that the developer funds. An indie developer is one which is not a subsidiary of a publisher. And an indie publisher would be one that owns its own stock.. Though I think it probably wouldn’t have to be public.
People abuse the term nowadays so it confuses me a bit…
Does the term indie publisher even make sense? Indie developer means you are not tied to a publisher. Not sure what indie publisher means.. A publisher that publishes games by indie devs?
@Yosher Don’t get me wrong. I’d love to see a new FZero. I think it can be made mainstream so that it could sell enough. I just don’t see Nintendo bringing it back any time soon. I doubt EPD would even consider developing it so it’d most likely need to be an outside studio. I wish they’d build up NST again for racing/sports games
@Yosher Mario Kart is Nintendo's number 1 franchise. F-Zero is not even in their top 20. That's why we don't see F-Zero anymore and why it kind of sucks that there hasn't been (fully) new Mario Kart in 7 years.
@ModdedInkling That makes sense. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were some disappointed developers. The WiiU sold poorly so it kinda sucks if you want to see your game do well
@ModdedInkling Both of those games wouldn’t have been developed if Nintendo hadn’t financed them. And If Nintendo pays for the game it is a first party title. It’s not an “exclusivity” deal like with Bravely Default 2 or something
I imagine Bayonetta 2 developers were happy to be able to develop the game, but the sales were just disappointing.
@Azuris Yeah. It could be a good opportunity, but I think Nintendo probably wouldn’t want the 3d team to make a 2d game. They’d prefer the 3d Mario team to make a 3d game and the 2d team to make a 2d game since they are more suited. But some rumors say it’s a 3d game, so we’ll see.
Why would the 3d Mario Team work on 2d Donkey Kong? The 2d Mario team would be better suited no? Plus 3d Mario is selling more than 2d now so I think Nintendo would want another 3d Mario game.
@meeto_1 At least in Japan, the number 1, 3 and 6th most selling titles last week for the Switch were third party. All with around 2 million sales. That is pretty impressive.
@BloodNinja Because of what you said, I've never purchased a game based on its Eshop description. It's too bad that they have only made some minor improvements to it after 4 years. It should have been made much better at least by the end of the first year.
@westman98 Pretty much every other game NDCube has been developing since Mario Party 9 is a Mario Party game. Basing it off their history, their next game will be one as well, though it could be a smart phone game.
@victordamazio Copyright expiration has been greatly extended. But I think trademarks don’t usually become public domain so even if the copyright expired on Mario 64, Nintendo would still possess the trademark.
@Crono1973 Because of what you said, the mainstream music industry shifted almost completely to crappy, overproduced singles after that. And music has come to be less and less rich in timbre. It also has come to have much less of an impact on society.
There have been some positives. Like now it is easy and cheap to access a wide array of music. So there is more potential to get exposed to a large variety of music.

@jon625 Unless you want the portability of the Switch, you are probably better off with the WiiU versions because of the gamepad support.
Re: Metroid Prime 4 Was First Announced Four Years Ago Today
@JudgeMethos Yeah. So I imagine at the longest, Retro has been working on it for 3 years. I wouldn't even expect to hear from it for another year.
I do hope Mercury Steam has a new Metroid game in the oven, though.

Re: Sakuna: Of Rice And Ruin Dev Hoped It'd Sell 30k Copies - It Just Passed One Million
@Ghost_of_Hasashi I think it includes both. I read the article and it just said it surpassed one million.
That’s still great for a small budget title like this. And it will probably continue to sell.
Re: Reminder: DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power Is Out Now On Nintendo Switch
@Clyde_Radcliffe It is kinda strange. Good Job has gotten some promotion but Stretchers, which was a good deal of fun, got very little, I think.
This game doesn’t seem as good as those two and I don’t watch girls cartoons so I am not sure if they promoted it.
Re: Talking Point: Do You Want To See More Apple Arcade Games On Switch?
If the game is good, why not bring it over to the Switch?
Re: Japanese Charts: Miitopia Tops The Table As Switch Hardware Sales Hit 20 Million

With 273 employees, they are probably working on 2 games not counting BOTW2.

Maybe someday Nintendo will remake the trilogy like they are doing for Famicom Detective.
