@Stamina_Wheel Considering one of the top executives of Platinum is from Nintendo, I imagine Nintendo is aiming to cultivate a long-term relationship with them. Hard to speculate beyond that.
@RupeeClock It is not an easy thing to move to another engine. If you are midway through a project, it could cause huge setbacks or even project failure to change. Plus, if you have invested a lot of time into learning that engine, it is also not so easy an easy decision to make. Likely, the main things it will effect are decisions about what engine to choose for a new project and what engine to learn in school.
@Joker1234 Peach is the only new game probably because Nintendo wants to have a strong lineup for the new system's first year and not repeat the mistakes of the WiiU. I don't mind the remasters and remakes though cause I never played those games.
@OorWullie I don't think so. I'd guess it was made by NST or 1up Studio or a small team inside the EAD's 3d Mario development team. Or a collaboration between them.
@kalosn They announced games for later in 2024 so my guess is 2024 will be mostly be DLC, ports, and remakes and Switch 2 will release at the end of the year. If that's the case, I hope to see Nintendo put out more remasters of some of their more minor titles.
@locky-mavo I avoided the leaks. And I am glad I did. Because it instead of being a disappointment, I was pleased. While I would have preferred NST make a new Mario vs Donkey Kong, it looks like love went into making the remake
Was the new Shinchan game not announced in the West?
I felt it was solid. I'd give it a B or a 7/10. There was a lot of interesting software though no real big ones other than Atlus's new game and Shinchan. You can tell that 2024 is the final year for the Switch since all new first party game announcements were either DLC like Splatoon, Mario Kart or ports like Another Code, Donkey Kong and Paper Mario
@Cashews I saw his film. I hope you have a great time with it. The new film from Studio Ponoc, which is basically Ghibli also, also looks great. Comes out in December in Japan
@Thomystic Temps and contractors are not employees so it wouldn’t make sense to include them. I imagine the percentage is much lower than at NOA, though. NOA has quite a bit if autonomy so is run differently
@antisumo Breath of the Wild released at the same time on the WiiU as the Switch and plus the Switch version had better performance and better image quality. Colloquially when people say port they refer to a release that came significantly later. And People only care about a port being much enhanced or much cheaper if it comes out far later
@Stamina_Wheel Which Nintendo games are you referring to that were bare minimum ports and priced at $50? Like Mario 3d All Stars may have been bare minimum but three games were included
@RareFan @Giancarlothomaz A sequel would be possible because Nintendo owns the copyright to the game and the copyright to Diddy Kong but they’d have to replace the characters they don’t own the copyright for. But a sequel doesn’t make sense cause Nintendo already makes Mario Kart unless Retro or Next Level makes the sequel
@EriXz It’s possible but I have doubts because of the end product. In my experience a chaotic environment results in a chaotic product like Cyberpunk or Balan not in something well designed. Usually the planning is bad, the goals constantly change or the product director wants to do too many things. I just don’t see that in Dread. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the environment was stressful because of long hours or highly ambitious gosls and negativity
It’s probably cause of Furukawa. I hope they find someone better because he will be bad long term for them because he has no vision for gaming. He benefited off of Iwata’s vision for the Switch but without a solid vision long term Nintendo will become like Disney. Nintendo has become noticeably less experimental recently. Nintendo lives and dies based on their creativity.
@johnvboy I understand it’s business but I do think it is anticonsumer. Though Sony has also bought a ton of studios over the years. Nintendo has only bought 3 but has a lot of exclusive partnerships. I don’t care about any of their games so personally I don’t care about the acquisition and also hope Microsoft cleans up Activision/Blizzard.
@johnvboy It’s not just bad for Sony. It’s bad for consumers of the Playstation. Now Microsoft has a stranglehold on shooters and Western RPGs. But no doubt Sony will adapt to the loss.
It’s not surprising. I think they didn’t release any notable games in 2021. 2020 was an even better year for them since Animal Crossing and Xenoblade DE came out
Nintendo is a software company so of course there won’t be many female managers.
But I think the primary issue in Japan is that it is harder to balance work and life and primarily women for the foreseeable future are going to be raising children in all countries. It isn’t like Europe where in many places people can take lots of vacations, never work overtime and only work 35 hours a week. Plus people stay at companies for much longer than say the US so it’s a huge investment to make someone a manager. If you mess up you could have to deal with the consequences for 20+ years
Until it’s easier for women to take on managerial positions not many are going to want to do it.
@UltimateOtaku91 I agree resources could have been spent better, but NdCube develops Mario Party (and Clubhouse games). I think this is probably from the same studio as Switch Sports. They could have worked on DLC or something for that. But I imagine the main result they worked on this was for R&D so they can use what they learned and tools they developed for this game on other games
@Anti-Matter Pro Wrestling is live theater, not really a sport.. even though it may look like a sport. So it’s not that comparable with Kickboxing. A lot of people like these games for the RPG aspects as well
@Kiyata Sometimes things get killed off and we end up worse for it. Like I definitely prefer rental video stores over this mess we have now with the current state of streaming services. Sure it's more convenient, but it's easy to get pigeonholed, the quality of shows has overall declined even more and overall it's a worse experience.
If anything, E3 was a celebration of video games for a week which generated excitement. It sucks if that will be lost.
@larryisaman Yeah. I can't see them getting another chance either. Probably the best chance for it is if Nintendo allows Platinum to remaster Zero for the Switch without the wonky controls and it does much better financially. Otherwise, I wouldn't be surprised if we never see Star Fox again.
@larryisaman I believe the people leading Star Fox Zero development were mostly from Nintendo not Platinum so it was not really Platinum's vision. Platinum were probably more like hired hands (kinda like how they were used for FFXVI combat). I think we would have gotten a better result if Nintendo let Platinum take charge
@WiiWouldLikeToPlay Well. Going to prison typically results in losing your career so he'd have lost his career anyway. He'll be lucky if he can get any employment afterward. Especially in Japan.
@praystation The first game had solid core gameplay but felt like more of a tech demo without a really solid vision. Hopefully this new producer will help out with that cause they are going to have to step up their game especially with the new Armored Core.
@antisumo Well, if the rumors are true the next Switch might use the Orin SoC. It looks like that is comparable to the base PS4 in terms of TFLOPS depending on what version is used, but it'll have DLSS.
They were hit and miss on smaller titles but released too much and didn’t do well on larger titles. The next year should be better, but they stupidly made FFXVI a PS5 exclusive
@koffing I hope things stay that way for you so keep those rose-tinted glasses on. I think continuing to play new video games and enjoy new experiences will help. That isn’t the case for a lot of people. The world can be wonderful but it is also brutal
@Alpha008 It depends on the game, how many resources it required, and what the expectations are, etc. In general, companies want to make a profit, but they also have to consider other factors like opportunity cost. In Nintendo's case they also have to consider impact on system sales. Even though Bayonetta might not sell a huge number of copies, it probably contributes to system sales because it has a strong core fanbase
Of course if TOTK only sold one million that would be a huge failure. For Bayonetta 3 though 1 million is probably success. If you are an indy developer, 10000 sales might be a success
@steely_pete No. Octopath is not first party. First party indicates the IP is owned or partially owned by Nintendo. So games like Bayonetta 3 are first party
@Cashews They seem really hard to get a hold of which would mean demand is far outpacing supply and that they are not being manufactured sufficiently. I don't know too much about it cause I haven't been following it, but I'd be inclined to believe it is an abject failure if they are not selling, not if they are out of stock.
@hashkey It is classified as American/Japanese, though even if you wouldn’t classify it as that. Probably because it was financed and produced by both Nintendo and Illumination. It’s also not like such CG family movies aren’t made in Japan. Just the budgets are much smaller
@hashkey The movie is half-Japanese, Nintendo was involved with production after all. But yeah it can be hard to predict performance. Like RRR is still showing in theaters in Japan, which probably no one would have thought
@LeonSKennedy It’s possibly cause it launched at the beginning of Golden Week so people don’t feel the need to rush out and see it anytime during the week. The audience reception looks good in Japan so I expect it to hit 100 million. You also have to remember while Japan has a large population it has a high percentage of elderly people who aren’t interested in Mario.

Nintendo’s properties are worth too much. They are not going to put them on XBox’s platform and lose a whole lot of revenue.

@EriXz Stressful and difficult are not the same as chaotic. Lots of jobs are stressful and difficult but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Honestly for anyone who doesn’t like difficult/stressful work the game industry is probably not the place for them.
