Re: Digital Foundry Weighs In With First Impressions Of Crysis 3 On Switch

roboshort

@BloodNinja If you want to compare software, yeah, that’s all there is to compare. But comparing software is prone to a lot of error because the engineering has a huge effect on performance.
That’s why it’s better to compare hardware specs..

Also, it appears this title performs considerably better on the Switch. I haven’t really looked into comparisons of other Switch software and XBox360/PS3 so I don’t know too much about it

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For NEO: The World Ends With You

roboshort

@Themagusx1 The review just came off like a review from a high schooler to me rather than a professional so I couldn't even make it far into the review.

The problem with IGN, I think, is they heavily rely on freelancers because they have to review so many games. Nintendo Life does too somewhat, but Nintendo Life's core team is quite good, I think.

My only beef with Nintendo Life is that they need to spread out the scoring more. I think they give out too many 8s.. They should give out more 7s and 6s. And bad games should be below 5.

Re: Japanese Charts: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Scores Another Debut Number One

roboshort

@Clyde_Radcliffe That's only a few titles that had control problems.. The problem is most likely partly you, though. It takes time to get used to a new control scheme. If you give someone who never has played video games a game controller, they will struggle with the controls, even for relatively simple games control schemes like Super Mario World.

The other part of the problem is that motion controls are much harder to program and I don't think Nintendo has the human resources to really take on that task to make impeccable motion controls.

In the case of Star Fox.. they should have scrapped the idea early on. It should have been apparent in the early stages of development that that control scheme was overly complex. But I think they made an error of judgment in thinking that they needed to innovate with using the gamepad to justify its existence.

Re: 'Shin Megami Tensei If' Is Being Added To Japan's NSO Super Famicom Collection

roboshort

@Caryslan Yeah. I know not being able to put games on it from Square/Enix, Capcom and Konami/Hudson is a big blow but there are other developers like SNK, Irem, Tecmo made quality titles for the NES and do not seem to be interested in releasing their games as packages like those other three developers. I imagine Konami has a lot of titles from both theirs and Hudson's library that they will never rerelease like Faxanadu so I hope Nintendo finds a way to bring them to the online service. Capcom is probably a bit tougher cause they made so many licensed games which would be hard to release on the service.

Also, Nintendo does have other first party games they can release besides what you mentioned like RC Pro Am. And also quite a few that were only available in Japan like Devil World, Famicom Wars or Murasame Castle, though RPGs like Ginga no Sannin may cost too much money to localize.

In the case of the SNES, I think there is a huge number of titles they could release.

Re: The First Review For The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Is Now In

roboshort

@Rob3008 Unlike games like Skyrim, Skyward Sword's mechanics have not been built upon too much in the last 10 years since gaming went away from motion controls. So it should do fine in terms of reviews as long as the improvements are good enough. Also, its innovations should not be overlooked even if it has aged.

I'd expect it to get around a 90 Metacritic score.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles Developer Monolith Soft Reports Huge Profits, Up By 138.2%

roboshort

@HeadPirate It would depend on the code. The thing is the XB port to the Switch contained major upgrades to assets and other QOL improvements and an expansion.
If the code is well written and modular it won’t matter too much if they used tricks on the WiiU.

Here’s what we know. Most first party WiiU games have been ported to the Switch. XBC2 uses an upgraded version of the engine used for XBX. Most major first party titles from the WiiU have been ported to the Switch. They’d likely get a much better ROI in it than developing a new title

I don’t give much weight to what developers say because they will hide such info out of the interest of the company.

I dunno though. We may not see it. But that’d be a surprise to me. I guess we’ll find out sometime

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles Developer Monolith Soft Reports Huge Profits, Up By 138.2%

roboshort

@HeadPirate It selling fewer than 1 million is even more reason to port it. The port would likely sell somewhere between 1 and 1.5 million copies which would help them a lot with investing in future projects.

The biggest difficulty with porting X would be how to handle the gamepad functionality and adding in the much needed QoL improvements. But it would still be cheaper to port than Xenoblade Chronicles 1. The ROI of porting a WiiU/Wii 1st party game can be huge. Looking at the impact of porting Xenoblade Chronicles 1 will show that.

Re: Feature: 30 Hours Into The Game With A Higher Metascore Than Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

roboshort

@LXP8 Personally I like both styles and can understand if BOTW is not one of your favorites. I’d say there is a difference between adventure and exploration though.

Adventure is more event focused and about overcoming trials/challenges placed in front of you as you press forward. Exploration is more focused on discovery and understanding.

In terms of exploration, there may not be a better game than BOTW as you have to really gain a deep understanding of the underlying mechanics of the world to get the most out of it. There is a lot more to do than find the next korok seed. But it doesn’t do adventure as well as many other Zelda titles.

Maybe Nintendo will include more of what fans of older Zeldas enjoy in the next game.

Re: Feature: 30 Hours Into The Game With A Higher Metascore Than Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

roboshort

@LXP8 Breath of the Wild is an exploration game. The degree of exploration had greatly declined since the first Zelda and BOTW was a return to its roots.

If you have the type of personality that doesn't like exploration, though, you will probably not enjoy it as much as more structured games. This is not a problem with BOTW, though. It is just your personal preference.

I do think they will continue to make old style Zelda games, but they'll probably reserve that style for the top-down view entries.

Re: Former Star Fox Programmer Would Be Interested In Making A New Entry Without The "Gimmicks"

roboshort

@nessisonett Sin and Punishment for the Wii may be getting a little old now but it showed you can still make a great on-rails shooter. It is just necessary to have engaging scenarios. Games like Gears of War and Call pf Duty are also pretty close to being on rails... though the series are both stale now

I think Star Fox should be dialed back but they should also innovate in more interesting ways. There is so much inspiration that can be taken from space that I don’t think it should be hard to innovate.

Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course

roboshort

@Yosher From this review, it sounds like the foundation in Mario Golf is not good because the main gimmick, "rushing", just didn't work out. It looks like they probably don't understand what makes golfing fun, which is the environments and the feeling of hitting the ball well. Camelot should have focused on providing innovation in those two areas making interesting terrains/environmental effects which would require skill in hitting the ball well.

Splatoon started out with a great foundation so each update was exciting. Aces started out with a decent foundation and became a good game eventually.

Re: Review: Mario Golf: Super Rush - A Solid Swing, But Par For The Course

roboshort

@Yosher Splatoon wasn't really a "release now, fix later" type situation. It was a release now, expand later. The initial version was really good and had a solid foundation, just needed to be bolstered by more content.

This is more along the lines of Camelot's previous release, Mario Tennis Aces, which was "release now, fix later".

Re: Potential Switch Port Round-Up - The Wii U Games That Haven't Come To Switch

roboshort

@Otoemetry It could be transferred but the experience will suffer. I played the Witcher 3 after Xenoblade X and the experience was considerably worse not having the gamepad. Having a map in your hands is a godsend for open world games. Especially Xenoblade X where there is so much information and interaction with the map.

Don’t get me wrong though, I do hope they port it and fix some of the issues with it.
