Re: Video: Digital Foundry Talks 8-Inch 'Switch 2' Screen, Joy-Con Compatibility

Very interested to see what the new console is like based on all these rumours and how close/off the mark they are.
The biggest shame in all the rumours which I hope isnt true is the return to an LCD screen - that would be a shame after the beautful OLED model. As they mentioned in that video, the screen upgrade, to me anyway, actually felt like the internal hardware had been upgraded too. It made such a difference that when I got my steam deck LCD, I kept playing witcher 3 (blood and wine) on switch as the colours of Toussant just popped in a way they didnt on deck, even though deck was running with much higher overall graphics settings.

Re: Players Need To Start "Feeling Comfortable" With Not Owning Games, Says Ubisoft Subs Boss

I remember when steam first appeared many years back and that had me worried for the PC gaming market as I did enjoy some of the amazing physical games back then (combat flight sim 2 and the mammoth manual comes to mind) but I’ve now accepted and am comfortable with steam. I think the industry will head this way as a whole as we’ve got Spotify, Netflix, Gamepass, Office 365 all offering services or media via subscription now. It will take time, and don’t get me wrong I’ll be sad to see physical games go, but I do feel change will eventually come. It will make me treasure my current physicals that much more.

Re: Review: Batman: Arkham Trilogy (Switch) - Two Solid Ports, One Technical Disaster

@Dm9982 it’s not sabre unfortunately, I thought it may be as they did MK1. It’s Turn Me Up, looking at their site they’ve done some alright switch ports, I think it’s more a case of Arkham Knight is just too much for the switch to handle - maybe time and patches may improve things, hopefully so!
I am playing City at the moment though and really enjoying that, I’ve no issues so far with that port a few hours in

Re: Kingdom Come: Deliverance Switch Port Is Still Alive, Coming Early 2024

@Astral-Grain Oh for sure steam deck has many issues - an issue I had early on was that Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order (one of the reasons I got the steam deck) went from verified to unsupported literally weeks after I got the deck, because EA changed the Origin client to something else I believe.
I feel its abit of a lottery, where if a game is verfied get it played ASAP.
Same happened with Unity of Command 2 - I played the desert rats and the following DLC after that fine, then I bought the Don 42 DLC to continue with and voila! Game was updated and now it just gives a python error, game now being unsupported and cant play the Don 42 DLC I bought

With Switch I love that its simply pop thecartridge in and off you go, nothing can ever replace the console feel of simplicity.

And yes, backwards compatibility will be something I'm really keen for if that can achieve that, as I've some great Switch games yet to play that I've not currently time for.

Re: Kingdom Come: Deliverance Switch Port Is Still Alive, Coming Early 2024

@Astral-Grain I think now the switch is so far in its lifecycle that these impossible ports are now becoming more shouldnt be ported. For example I played arkham knight on my deck a few days ago to see how it was there and it ran on all high at a solid 30fps. Compared to switch its just simply technology moving on, I really feel Nintendo need to get the new hardware out sooner rather than later as the only games on switch I'm interested in now are 3rd party or Indy, the experience of the latest games on switch just isnt pleasant anymore.
A good example is hogwarts legacy, got that on switch and I just didnt enjoy it at all due to all of the cutbacks, so traded in and bought on steam for deck, a much better experience throughout.
I think its just natural that the switch is at the end of its lifecycle now, its a superb console and will always be fondly remembered, however its now definately in its twilight days/year. I must say though, what a great console its been!

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis of Batman: Arkham Trilogy

ozwally

@BulkSlash it’s such a shame. I’ve been looking forward to these since announcement, City most of all and thankfully that seems to be ok. I don’t think the porting studio turn me up should have taken on Arkham city, whenever I hear about it, it always seems to be a tricky game to run so trying to get it to do so on switch is abit overly ambitious I think. I doubt patches could do much to improve it

Re: Review: Jurassic Park: Classic Games Collection (Switch) - A Fair Flock, But Far From 'Classic'

I tried my mega drive/genesis pad for the 2 sega entries and the certain buttons wouldnt function. I have the 3 button pad, of the 3 buttons it would swap between which button wouldnt work so the controller is ok. i.e. a would shoot, b jump but c wouldnt select weapon. Change mapping and a wouldnt select weapon but b would shoot and c jump for example. Hopefully they fix that as it'd be nice to play with mega drive/genesis pad

Re: Review: Company Of Heroes Collection - Classic Strategy Soldiers On, Though The Missing Multiplayer Stings

@The_Elite_Institute its a great RTS for sure, but it is more complex than Command and Conquer (Im a huge fan of those). For example there is an emphasis on cover mechanics, units have secondary abilities which you need to activate such as throwing grenades.
I cant remember if armour on tanks is modelled accurately here i.e. you have to flank/attack the weaker armour at sides or rear
Another big feature which I thoroughly enjoyed at the time was the destructable environments. For example, if enemies are garrisoning a building call in an artillery strike/use mobile artillery to just level the building!
It was great on PC but I'm wondering how this will be with a controller.

Re: Round Up: The Final Previews Are In For Super Mario Bros. Wonder

ozwally

@gcunit I thought that as I read the Mario 3d world plus bowsers fury review a few days back and they said the below, which is similar to the previews above.

"Super Mario 3D World is testament to modern Nintendo’s unusual and democratic creative process, which gives every designer’s ideas a fair throw. The result is a cascade of playful ideas that appear, shine brightly for a level or two and then vanish again to make way for more."

https://www.theguardian.com/games/2021/feb/10/super-mario-3d-world-bowsers-fury-review-nintendo-switch

I think its just nintendo being as creative as they can be with these games. I guess it means you can say its not more of the same as there are many unique ideas at play.Wont be getting the game as I've still yet to play 3d world so cant justify getting this

Re: Batman Arkham Trilogy For Switch Has Been Delayed Until December

ozwally

I’m disappointed about this as was really looking forward to it. On the flip side a more polished experience is my preference.
It must be issues with City and/or Knight as this close to release I imagine the physicals are already manufactured and probably on container ships heading to different countries

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2 Switch Rating Surfaces Online

@SerpenterrorThere are many games with crime in now on switch, the recent wartales being an example and even games like Lego dc supervillains.
A long while ago I would have associated Nintendo as being a platform for a younger audience, but with switch it seems a very balanced platform to me in terms of game genres available which surely can only be a good thing - people buy what they want, not what they are forced to
