Re: Review: Hitman World Of Assassination - Signature Edition (Switch 2) - Not Yet The Showstopping Port 47 Deserves

nessisonett

I still think Blood Money is the pinnacle of Hitman but oh man, these games were an absolute treat to support this last almost decade (horrifying it’s been so long). I think 2016 is my favourite actually, the episodic release was part of why I massively preferred it to 2 at the time, I was forced to really suck everything out of each level before the next released instead of following them like a campaign where I didn’t stop to smell the roses. Yes, that includes Colorado and yes, that was a long wait for Hokkaido. Paris on release is one of my favourite gaming moments ever, exploring the map, finding new secrets, toying with the new systems, WALKING THE RUNWAY! Then Sapienza was just as good and the fanbase realised collectively that IO nailed it. It’s hard to put into words just how seriously this game revived a franchise that was capital D Dead. Absolution is a franchise killer of a game, plenty series have never ever gotten past entries like that.

I have the Hitman 3 platinum (47 trophies ofc) and have every single location at the maximum level, this package is not for me. However, I would find it very difficult to name a product that provides as many hours of sheer fun as this, especially in handheld mode. I’d implore as many people to buy this game as humanly possible, forget the frame issues, forget the online requirement nonsense because this game is worth it. The fact they went from Square Enix, to WB, to self publishing the final part of the trilogy speaks to the sheer tenacity the devs showed in service of these games, which is why I have every confidence that Bond will be brilliant too. PLAY THIS GAME!

Re: Poll: So, Did You Order A Nintendo Switch 2?

nessisonett

@sethfranum It’s June. Everything went up in April. I had £6 in my account the day before payday there. I haven’t actually bought a game with money in about 3 years, a year worth of PS Plus is the only way I get ‘new’ games unless I borrow from family or friends or get one for my birthday or something. Adult life!

Re: Feature: Farewell, Nintendo Switch - It's Finally Time To Bid Our Old Friend 'Adieu'

nessisonett

I bought mine with my first (double) student loan payment. The Switch 2’s coming out after my Switch seeing a hell of a lot; global pandemic, mental health struggles, a degree followed by complete disillusionment with my chosen field. 2017 is a long time ago now even if it doesn’t feel like it on paper. It’s been a great generation for Nintendo, but not necessarily for me. I love the form factor of the Switch but a lot of the big games didn’t captivate me like they did in previous generations. Creativity in some aspects seems to have been replaced by more and more corporate elements that have crept in post Wii/DS.

Re: Rumour: Zelda Live-Action Movie Eyes "Popular" Princess Pick

@dartmonkey It’s about more than just moderation of a single article though. This happens every single time an article is even remotely linked to a minority group. I understand that you can’t choose the audience you cultivate but every time there’s some sort of ban, another takes their place to spew blatant hate speech. They must feel comfortable doing so for a reason, and so there’s clearly more that can be done to stamp it out.

Re: Rumour: Zelda Live-Action Movie Eyes "Popular" Princess Pick

nessisonett

I forget how fash this site’s users lean until an article like this rolls along. You’d think blatant transphobia would be against the site’s rules, it’s a protected characteristic under the UK Equality Act (yes still, despite the Mould Queen’s big money campaign). Then again, a lot of the Pride content died when Kate left so perhaps it’s a conscious decision.

Re: A24 Bringing Elden Ring To The Big Screen With Ex-Machina Director

nessisonett

I don’t really see any way for this to make a cohesive story, unless it’s some sort of companion piece or prequel. Even then, it’s just too dense for modern moviegoers, same as Warcraft was. Please keep Shaun Dooley though, his performance in Elden Ring is one of my favourite VA performances by a traditional actor.

Re: Opinion: I Hope Trails In The Sky 1st Chapter Doesn't Make A 'Big' Remake Mistake

nessisonett

I really agree with this article. As much as I played Evolution on Vita so got the QOL changes, the rhythm of this game is incredibly chill to the point that I understand why some are put off but it’s right up my alley. I don’t want them to overblow this remake like the entire Cold Steel series, and most of all they have to refrain from bogging it down with creepy af underaged fan service. The original games have their issues with regards to the same old predatory lesbian jokes and obviously Estelle and Joshua are adopted incestuous but it was handled so much better in the PSP titles than when they moved onto home consoles.

Re: Yakuza 0? It Can't Be! Check Out David Hayter In Sega's Switch 2 Launch Title

nessisonett

I find this pretty much sacrilegious but to be fair, I have a visually impaired mate who can’t read subtitles consistently for long periods of time and said the English dubs of the newer Yakuza games helped them appreciate the series far more even if the performances weren’t as good as the JP cast.

Also, that is a huge spoiler saying which games Kashiwagi also appears in. Relevancy to the article shouldn’t take precedence over spoiling a series that many users on this site will be new to, with the series only just hitting Switch recently.

Re: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 Remake Will Let You Extend The Career Mode Timer

nessisonett

The fact Andy seems fairly positive while still being measured makes me think it’ll be at least good. It might not be what I wanted with regards to 4 but the challenge system alone from 1+2 is the best thing the series ever did. I watched all his vids (and his Tony Hawk interview) and I’m definitely glad I’m playing it on release. If they do go ahead with an Undergound remake then they absolutely need to bring Andy back on (skate)board, nobody knows the intricacies like he does.

Re: Nintendo Says AI-Generated Images "Were Not Used" In Mario Kart World

nessisonett

@rjejr It’s a little hard to explain but there’s a general uncanny nature to AI generated images because human brains perceive art in ways that a computer is incapable of. For example if we drew a circle then we’d draw one long curve in one stroke, whereas the AI will generate pixels in a grid format until a circle is created. Depth is often completely lacking from AI art because of that, you can’t generate something based on the ramblings of the human mind, scrapped ideas, the interpretation that the failings of memory introduces etc. It’s a fad because people love jingling keys, but the way it’s being shoved down our throats by corpos means it’s probably here to stay.

Re: Opinion: It's Time To Get Rid Of Fall Damage

nessisonett

Truly bizarre article. All games are different, some need fall damage and some don’t. You’d have to completely design your game around a lack of fall damage to account for how much more difficult it is to gate areas from each other. I know that most journos have zero idea of how games are actually designed but this does sort of take the biscuit.

Re: EA Sports Games For Switch 2 "Are Being Built Specifically For The New Handheld"

nessisonett

I’m probably one of the few people who doesn’t see annual sports titles as disposable so any crumb of exclusive features for Switch 2 would be super cool. EA Sports’ output has become stale and homogenised really since Covid at the very latest in terms of features that outlive the online cycle, FC 24’s playstyles and this year’s roles are the only significant additions that span the whole game for example. I frequently return to the PS2 titles across the brand (and EA Sports BIG) because of the unique features and game modes that stretch beyond just a nostalgic snapshot of a specific year. NBA Live’s dunk contest was amazing back in those days, Tiger Woods 04 is arguably the greatest sports game of all time because of its unique features too. Rivalled by the PS3 titles solely because of modes like the Tiger Woods life story mode (minus the adultery) and I’ve been playing the history of golf mode from 14 that is absolutely absurdly impressive for a sports game, with accurate clubs from the 1900s and playable Bobby Jones and Old Tom Morris.

To be fair, it’s a games in general issue with shallow offline content being offered as you can’t sell extra compared to online modes having MTX but it’s the unique features of these sorts of games that make them cult classics, whether that’s MVP Baseball 05’s home run derby with obstacles or that one Wii FIFA game that turned it into a weird RPG. All I ask for is a bit of creativity, these games are made by so, so many people and teams that surely they can squeeze in interesting modes.

Re: Massive Civilization VII Update Detailed, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

nessisonett

@Overzeal That’s absolute madness. It’s a 4X game with a million different systems, tuning them based on player feedback should be applauded rather than this nonsense about the game not being finished. If this was 20 years ago then the balance issues would remain until the next £30 expansion instead of being patched, making balance patches paid content instead of free like is being delivered. I know this is a Nintendo site so not everyone actually plays strategy games unless they star underage girls but the general practice with these games pivoting towards free tweaks to gameplay to fine tune incredibly complicated systems is a good one and the community largely agrees.

Re: Massive Civilization VII Update Detailed, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

nessisonett

@Overzeal It’s 100% a full release. Back in the early 00s we got balance patches as part of paid expansions… which introduced their own problems that needed patching. This is literally better in every conceivable way. The only thing I’m not convinced by is the individual Civs, not even leaders, being sold instead of being part of packs.
