Re: Surprise! A Brand New Pokémon Puzzle Game Is Available Now On Mobile And Switch

nessisonett

@HammerGalladeBro @AussieMcBucket The main issue is Nintendo really really don’t like mandating handheld mode, when that would be a perfect way to do DS games that require the stylus. Ironically enough, emulation of certain Wii and DS games is more hassle than tracking down original hardware. I play a lot of older games just emulated but I’ll grab the 3DS if I wanna play something that heavily uses the touchscreen.

Re: New Pokémon Legends: Z-A Trailer Finally Gives Dragonite The Love He Deserves

nessisonett

The first Legends felt like a breath of fresh air for the franchise with a clear visual style and new take on the Pokémon structure. This looks worse in every way other than gameplay. Sure, Kalos was the gen that destroyed my love of the franchise, but this game looks visually bland and taking place in one city is incredibly stifling. The little faith I had in TPC is now gone.

Re: Review: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 (Switch 2) - A Welcome Reminder Of The Series' Glory Days

@CJD87 The 3 side of the package really is great, I’ve never been as big on 3 as the surrounding games but I didn’t have the same nostalgia for that as 4 and THUG. I do wish there was a bit more challenge with the expert scores though, I demolished Canada’s couple mil and wish I could be pushed a little further. Canada especially I’m really in awe of the level design, the snow totally adds to the atmosphere but the core layout of the map is such a great mix of the skate park elements and the natural lines with the trees and minecart rails. I’d probably say that was the best map in the game!

@CJD87 I’d argue that they’ve somehow made the worst of both worlds with regards to the changeable timer cop-out. The goals are designed for 2 minute runs on the THPS4 maps, yet the maps are far too large for the 2 minute timer. So what you end up with is a choice between doing a goal or two each run, or using the 60 minutes (which also eliminates any challenge with the high scores) and bashing through the entire level in less than 10 minutes. It’s night and day comparing how well the THPS3 maps are designed around the timer with the THPS4 maps. Suburbia and Alcatraz are the third map in each game, Suburbia is a tight map where you dig around every skateable area for the goals, whereas Alcatraz only uses about 30% of the space for the goals. I’ve unlocked the pro goals now and they do add more character and challenge but the fundamental issues with the game remain. I genuinely think that the levels from 3 should have just been DLC for 1+2 and they build 4 as a £30 game, modernising some elements of the structure while using the career as a base, adding pro challenges for every new skater.

The most damning comparison between the original and the remake of 4 is the pro challenge system. Take Bob Burnquist, in the original you do tricks between the gaps of a massive loop, inspired by a part he shot in real life. In the remake, his pro challenge, same as every other skater in the game, is to do a 250k combo including his special move. That’s it.

@Ellie-Moo Even ignoring that 4 has been lobotomised, the actual goals for each level don’t work. College and San Francisco are passable but it all falls apart when you get to Alcatraz which is far too large to accommodate traditional goals so whole areas of the map go unused, and the new levels are very hit and miss. Kona and Zoo have no goals at all, with Zoo losing whole areas of the map like the aquarium and the entrance. A good remake makes the original redundant. This does not make 4 redundant but it achieves it with 3.

Re: Random: Yes, Pope Leo Really Did Sign A Popplio Pokémon Card

Pretty cool. Honestly, I really wish I’d bought one of the hot priest calendars when I went to the Vatican. My one takeaway from St Peter’s was the mummified Pope corpses in glass cases that my RE teacher in school fully didn’t believe existed. Like, I saw them with my own two eyes, it’s not something you forget.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online GameCube Game On Switch 2, Ranked

@Fiergala Yeah I play all FE games with permadeath and reset if someone dies, I’ve always turned off the aids they introduced to get kids into the series. Three Houses only really gets difficult in the hardest difficulty from massive stat boosts to certain enemies rather than actually good map design. There’s usually a way out too, unlike older games where the campaign’s success relies on planning across the chapters.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online GameCube Game On Switch 2, Ranked

nessisonett

@Oldstalk Three Houses washes down the tactical gameplay a lot in favour of RPG progression, none of your units ever actually feel like they’re in danger. Fates’ story and characters render it almost completely unplayable for me, it’s a real nadir for the series in terms of coming across like it’s catering to different fetishes over actually making a good game.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online GameCube Game On Switch 2, Ranked

nessisonett

@WiiHawk I dunno, depends what you’re looking for. Waifu Emblem peaked with Awakening and has never really been matched on that front. The Ike games are great but there’s an argument to be made that the gameplay peaked on the SNES with Thracia’s sheer pace. I love Genealogy but it’s definitely divisive so I’d struggle to say it’s the ‘best’ game in the series but Thracia is massively underrated. I’d probably add that Thracia is absolutely brutally difficult at times but learning the deep mechanics is worth it.

Re: Nintendo's Ability To Ban Switch 2 Consoles Has Landed It In Hot Water

nessisonett

@jsty3105 The difference is that it’s not the account being banned, it’s the console. As someone who very much will only have the option of a second hand Switch 2 given the price, it’s an unnecessary worry that I could end up with a console completely unplayable online through no fault of my own. The whole point of a Nintendo Account should be to avoid that scenario through the Terms of Service agreed and not the last resort option of nuking the console. I probably should have been clearer but there’s a big difference between a user being punished within the bounds of the abuse of their account, and the physical console itself being affected.
