I love this stupid monkey. Genuinely have so many great memories of playing Super Monkey Ball 2 as a kid, even if it was mostly the minigames cause the actual main game is hard as nails.
@ShadLink The opposite is mostly true up until fairly recently. FIFA was the arcade experience, with less realistic physics and gameplay targeted at flashy skill moves and high scoring matches. PES offered more weighty physics and a slower build up throughout the golden age, it was later in the PS3 generation into PS4 generation that FIFA attempted a strange blend of pretend simulation with arcade gameplay. I honestly don’t mind the simulation gameplay in the newest FC games in single player but Ultimate Team rules all and that gameplay is blatantly scripted to generate income.
PES 2021 is still the best football game out there. eFootball is an unmitigated disaster on all fronts. Thankfully the PES 99 mod is coming to PC soon.
It does feel like it’s closer to just all being over. GenAI is eroding democracy at an alarming rate and the way it’s completely destroying arts and culture means we’ll just be stuck with grey sludge.
I did love the 3DS game for how genuinely odd it was. Good to see they’ve finally added more diversity too, it’s not a life sim unless it accurately reflects life.
@CaptainQuo I have great aunts and uncles who still speak what I would call Scots. It’s mostly alive in the older generations. The general ‘Glasgow uni’ accent hatred is because they’re the ones who get the opportunities, and if they came from nothing then they’ve fair forgotten it. All the big cities in Scotland share a proud history of working class roots and I have more in common with poor folk in Dundee than the toffs in the West End. The push to keep Gaelic alive should also extend to Scots, it’s as much a part of our culture, but you’ll be hard pushed to find those in Holyrood who come from that stock. Also, like 90% of the newsreaders on Reporting Scotland have lilting Highland accents. Not sure when it started, I swear the most popular job in Dingwall must be newsreader for the BBC 😂
@CaptainQuo Glesga dialect is only gone in the posh parts. That’s the side of Glasgow that looks good on the postcards but it’s not reality. But you’re right that Doric is kept alive a lot better than Lowland Scots. I grew up in a council estate in a fairly rough area that’s slap bang in between social climber central and one of the most deprived areas in the country, so I went to a high school where you could quite literally tell those who had money from those who didn’t just based on their accent. Which is why it grates so much hearing the accents of those who make it in the media.
@MarkieMAN64 Correct, people confuse it with Scottish English which is obviously the modern dialect, but Oor Wullie is indecipherable for kids these days. We technically have Scots and Scottish Gaelic as indigenous languages and even then, Doric is a dialect of Scots and I couldn’t tell you half of what they say.
@AussieMcBucket Burns was born into a poor family and he opposed both slavery and class inequality. His poems were an inspiration for the later founders of liberalism and socialism.
Did the Address to a Haggis back in primary! If you’re not into the sheep stomach mystery mince then there’s a chocolate haggis from Simon Allen that is incredible. It’s like a brownie with shortbread and fudge.
@MirrorFate2 Could do Mario and Sonic at the Enhanced Games, Super Sonic versus Fire Mario with dubious refereeing taking place in Las Vegas. Better than my idea for Mario and Sonic at the Paralympic Games.
Bring back this series! Honestly, I’m so excited for Wii coming to RetroAchievements in March cause it gives me an excuse to play these sorts of more casual games again.
I would say this is stupid but I had Night at the Museum 2 on the DS and I played the sh*t out of it. 100%-ed the game even though it’s one of the most bog standard crap platformers on the DS.
Meta are more pushing towards their wearables than it being a clear trend from VR to AI investment. They’ve really set their stall out with these Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
@GammaPhonic Comparing EA to a fascist death cult that rounded up Jews, ethnic minorities, LGBT people, Communists and others, funnelled them into squalid camps and systematically massacred them in their millions sort of proves Fares’ point here. Come on now.
@BBBBBBBBBBB It’s basically a pyramid scheme, the sheer amount of investment is the only thing keeping it afloat. My big prediction for this year is that at least one of the big players in the industry will catastrophically implode, they’re desperately launching things like Gemini Pro and other tiered paid services for different models but there’s absolutely no way they’ll make much money when regular users will just use the free tier. It’s a tale as old as time, they test the market with the free app and then nobody will want to pay for it when the paid version launches.
@PharoneTheGnome Tools do the jobs they are given based entirely on human input. These AI models are working outwith the boundaries of the prompts they are given. The issue is that AI hallucinations are funny until they happen in an operating theatre or in defence reports.
He’s right about GenAI being the bigger issue. But like all things, the bubble relies on investors seeing potential earnings at the end of the tunnel. Which categorically will not come.
Radiant Dawn basically never coming outside of a miracle is a shame, they make a proper duology. They can get Wii working if they try though, I’ve been playing Dolphin with my joy-cons and it works pretty well.
@Kid_Sickarus I can’t think of anything Fates did better than Awakening. The cast didn’t feel particularly memorable outside of a few select characters and the story was oftentimes painful because of the number of routes making motivations incredibly muddled to justify why they won’t listen to reason in each of them. The sheer contrivance of a lot of the conflict in Fates goes beyond simple plot convenience, its fanfic levels at times. Gameplay wise, it’s just OK, but the child unit justification was incredibly weak and again felt like them trying to use features from Awakening that actually had narrative purpose there. Fates is probably the least inspiring FE game out there, everyone remembers it for Camilla’s design but I don’t know a single person who’s went to seek out their old 3DS to replay it, it’s just not really worth the effort.
@cedarhyped Who cares? If everyone had the exact same opinion on here then it would be even more dull than it already is thanks to the relentless toxic positivity. Personally, I think Three Houses is a huge step back from earlier entries. But I can’t deny that it impacted the general direction of the series in a way that Engage did not, considering the next one coming out is an obvious attempt to recapture Three Houses’ glory (and sales) with them showing Sothis front and centre in the trailer. That’s not even controversial, just basic economics. Since Three Houses released, they’ve been relentlessly pushing their Gacha crap on mobile, made another mobile game that was panned and made Engage which sold about a quarter of what Three Houses did. That is a complete failure to capitalise on recent success.
@JR150 Three Houses was 6 years ago. Engage did not even come close to a fraction of that game’s impact. It’s not controversial to say that the series is going through a lull and this new one has to be a hit.
This sort of stinker is indicative of the general reputation of Fire Emblem these days. Somehow went from barely localised niche strategy game to a series that sold pretty big numbers and now it’s become a bit of a punchline between the Smash Bros roster and the awful VTuber designs.
@SilverM Fake news. 100% completion adds more tracks to the radio but only if you’ve already unlocked the radio with the Amiibo. It’s locked behind it.
I can’t believe anybody is taking this seriously for starters but yeah, £10 for something the Wii or even Wii U would have included for free is ludicrous. Look at how much free software the 3DS came with!
Ehhh was never a fan of the other human characters. Prefer them to be aliens or to just be full on isolation. Feels like it’s erring slightly closer towards Other M than the main series.

I would say Charizard but I’m doing a Professor Oak challenge in Fire Red and that ***** took me hours and hours and hours to evolve. Mewtwo it is.

Currently in a giant mansion in Blood Omen funnily enough. Decent game with awful hitboxes and I never seem to have enough health. But fun enough.

@ShadLink You must be young. During the PS2 years, PES was far and away the better game. FIFA only really took over in the PS3 years.
