I’ve been using my Joy-Cons as makeshift Wiimotes for Dolphin and it really makes me appreciate how well the original Wiimotes work for 2006. The Joy-Cons gyro and tracking are miles behind the Wii.
Haven’t gotten around to this one yet despite really loving the Liberl games as a snapshot of a very odd time for anime but a nostalgic one at that. Falcom could actually write women back then too, or at least better than the heinous treatment of them in the last decade.
I’ve been saying for literal years on here that this project is not real until it’s real. So many ‘insiders’ talking about how it’s coming just around the corner only for it to be around the next corner. Until it’s actually revealed then it doesn’t exist!
@PokemonDMG Masters of the Universe was pretty good for what it was. It could have been utter dreck but they at least tried to make a point about masculinity that resonated a lot more with me than the increasingly police-state espousing superhero movies.
@Bobbie_G They’re mostly good games and well, the first few are worth playing anyway. The two Crossbell games sort of mention the Internet and are getting more into a high-tech setting but by the Cold Steel games you might as well just be playing a strange modern day alternate universe with the occasional medieval influence. It’s strange, even the outfits are more like Tokyo Xanadu.
I genuinely have no real interest in Prime 4. Can live without it. Between the open world dreck and those NPCs I know I’ll hate it. I felt like if Returnal was a Metroidvania rather than a roguelike then it would be a perfect game so I’d quite like something along those lines. Make the environments even denser and use the beefier tech to push things like interactive and adaptive environments. The beauty of Metroid is in the design of each single room. An open world destroys that by enabling lazy design and forgettable areas. Bring back individually designed rooms in an interconnected world.
One of the first games I ever played. Will always love it even if yes, there are insane design decisions. Honestly, Super Mario Eclipse has sanded the edges down to the point that I’m absolutely loving playing it just now.
Been following this for a while, didn’t realise it was coming to Switch 2. That setlist is not exactly brilliant but I’ve been binging the GH games again on Expert so I’d love another game to play.
@Sonicka There’s no objectivity here. Newer and higher fidelity doesn’t always mean better, especially not when it comes to performances. I would rather hear voice actors playing characters with fun and whimsy than the same boring few voice archetypes. It’s the exact same issue with the Persona remakes, they sand off the edges so you end up with an entirely beige voice performance.
@Dee123 Calm down pal, it’s a game about spaceships which are clearly modelled after fighter jets. Pilots talk over radios, the audio being fuzzy and chopped up was a creative decision to emulate that type of speech as much as it was a technical limitation.
It’s truly bad voice acting. And not in the fun way like the original, it’s just not pleasant to listen to from the clips they’ve posted. Far too clean too, I much prefer the fuzzy radio quality of the voices in 64.
Never had one, was too young. Bought the pad for Switch Online years back and sort of love the controller. Totally get the criticism but the N64 games control SO much better with it, feels like I’ve been playing them wrong all my life emulating them. The middle stick is basically just the Nunchuck.
Into the postgame now after credits rolled and i’m a little disappointed. Was really enjoying it up until that point. I just don’t think the structure is as engaging as the first game once you hit that point. There’s not really the same incentives to befriend everyone and the boss rewards lose their purpose a lot quicker than in the first game. It does a lot right but that postgame loop is nowhere near as good as the first game, which i spent a long long time on trying to befriend every single character to the max.
That Maeda rainbow flick is gorgeous. Genuinely don’t mind the eFootball gameplay but the lack of content is staggering this many years in, this seems like a good time for me… except I don’t have a Switch 2.
Genuinely one of the best games I’ve ever played. Watching my mum discover completely different things was crazy too, we both have our own handwritten notes on the game.
Me and my brothers (all massive Civ fans for years) all agreed that structurally, VII just does not work. It’s fun enough your first couple games and then you realise it’s the same thing every single game. There was no way to fix it without going back to the drawing board. Which it looks like they’re doing now!
Nintendo consoles getting parity with modern sports titles unfortunately just results in more players having to suffer modern sports titles. If it wasn’t for licensing, having games like FIFA Street, Fight Night Round 2 and Tiger Woods 04 would make the Cube app even better.
@Tuulenpoika The game has never been censored. Ever. That being the first thought of somebody seeing a review for this game only shows that they have zero interest in playing games, they only want to get annoyed at a situation that they have invented themselves. Plus the fact that ‘censorship’ of games like this does not generally impact anything other than underage kids wearing risqué outfits.
@Nep-Nep-Freak Literally what could have been censored? I played it on Vita and there was nothing at all that possibly could have been tampered with. Did the Japanese version have pedo sh*t that was removed or something?
Tony Hawk 3+4 was a colossal disappointment and a middle finger to fans of 4 in particular. That being said, a primarily support studio having a round of layoffs is not a good sign at all. Normally these guys are a solid bet if you need external work done but I guess we’ll be seeing a lot more support studios being replaced with vibe coding and teams in countries with lax labour laws.
Been playing this recently on Dolphin. Genuinely odd game, I started with Wild World but the original is so much stranger. From design choices to just every villager being a complete sociopath. Sort of endearing though.
@lTyl I don’t think one of the dev team having an account here which doesn’t specify that they are a developer - and is only used to comment on articles relating to their own games - refutes the accusation of astroturfing. If anything, it makes this entire article feel bought and paid for.
Sort of comes across LARPy. I dunno, I’m not sure I enjoy Celtic culture being used as a blatant stand-in for existing genre tropes instead of being given the respect and attention it deserves. If you look at Cartoon Saloon’s movies, there’s no way they could be from somewhere else than Ireland, they look uniquely Celtic. This… looks more like somebody has gone through a 90s JRPG and renamed all the fictional characters with folklore ones.
On that note, here’s the only information about these devs straight from the mouth:
Datadyne was founded in 2016 to provide Fractional-CTO Leadership and Strategic Technology Advisor services to organisations that rely on complex data and software.
Since 2017 Datadyne has served as Kaiju’s CTO, designing and steering every layer of the firm's predictive AI platform, from data pipelines to production models and cloud infrastructure. The resulting technology now anchors a family of funds and research ventures and has been independently valued at US $1.45 billion.
Drawing on the same blend of technical depth and creative design, Datadyne is now expanding into the game-development industry with "Forge of the Fae" a retro-modern pixel-art RPG set to raise the bar for the genre.
Why did this team need a Kickstarter for 200-odd thousand if they are already involved in slightly dubious AI development? This all feels weirdly astroturfed. I’d massively appreciate some actual journalists to properly look into just who this team is, who they’re funded by, and exactly where the Kickstarter comes into it.
Absolute dogsh*t. They really cannot do much right at all, even after a success like Pokopia they find a way to destroy any good will. Stick to Showdown.
Genuinely don’t think this will do well commercially or critically. Mario is Mario, everyone knows Mario. Zelda is inherently more nerdy, it’s more niche. And it being live action means it won’t grab the parents who just want to take their kids to anything animated and kid-friendly. I just don’t really see an audience for it outside of nerds with low standards.
They have a very pertinent point when referring to kids media essentially being made for adults’ nostalgia fixes now. There’s a genuine epidemic of kids’ media being completely overtaken by adults. A bloody Bluey rollercoaster or whatever in the UK had to tell the weirdo adults to stay away so that actual kids could have their turn. Instead of having media that cultivates kids’ imagination and creativity, we have checklists of ‘references’ for adults to point out and laugh to themselves about or post online.

Not into this at all. It’s like Trails for me, it was fine when it was airships and such but the new games have the literal internet. Loses the charm.
