@LikelySatan I actually quite like portions of AoD. Full of early PS2 gripes though, the loading times, crowbarring of PS1 boxy concepts into a more naturally 3D space etc. Glad we never got the planned Kurtis Trent spinoff though, had disaster written all over it.

@johnedwin I loved that the SNES version you could press a different button to automatically search/interact, made the game so much less tedious.

Not being funny, that’s f**king vile. The D-pad is horrendous, the plastic looks cheaper than the original, clicky buttons is a bad bad idea with that button placement. Way too wide too, horrid looking controller.

@Lightsiyd You’re either playing dumb or, well, the boot fits. The game received tons of backlash on reveal for the main character being black, that’s just a fact. The use of hip hop in the trailer too. I don’t care about this fake Gamergate 2 nonsense, the SBI outrage is QAnon levels of brain rot.

Why are people pretending like this game wasn’t the target of a hate campaign on racist grounds? It evaporated after the very positive reviews but that had to have at least had an impact on sales. It’s vile.

Just the chiptunes alone are worth it. Seen a lot of especially young queer people talking about how this film’s aged and sure, it has in a lot of areas but oh boy did it open a lot of doors for people in a very different time. And the songs are great!

Love him. Grew up in a council house the other end of town, gone to the highest heights. Celtic fan too which helps. A genuine inspiration, with great taste in games too! I remember his story about burning Oblivion on his stove to stop him playing it so much, must have been around when he was starting to really break through after Shameless and Narnia.

Absolutely agree. Games take years to make to a certain quality too, so Concord was probably way less stale at an early point in development. It’s just too late to chase that Fortnite buzz.

An actual museum would acknowledge the massive part emulation and fan games have played in Nintendo’s cultural footprint. But this isn’t a museum, it’s a corporate slap on the back.

@Ogbert For sure yeah, the auteur mentality can hurt the workers who actually make the magic happen. Teams are responsible for these successes rather than just individuals.

@Ogbert Sort of, but the world of Disco Elysium comes from a book that Kurvitz wrote and it’s not like a Harry Potter situation where so many other voices have contributed to the franchise that there’s an argument to be made in favour of wresting control from the original writer. If there’s other creatives involved here then great, as long as it’s a spiritual successor and not an attempt to reboot the same world.

If there’s devs from the technical side of the game then that’s great, the gameplay of Disco Elysium blew my mind with the simplicity and the way it blended with the narrative. It’s ok that the creatives aren’t involved as it’s not a game set within the same world, that’s where I’d draw the line.

@Mrkittyhead And this is why Nintendo’s generational leap is going to feel seismic. With that stupid PS5 Pro focusing on hair strands’ worth of detail for the grand price of one kidney, just having a portable console running modern games natively and at a good frame rate will be a godsend. None of your mid-gen nonsense, just going from an ancient mobile processor to something slightly modern.
