Absolutely agree. Games take years to make to a certain quality too, so Concord was probably way less stale at an early point in development. It’s just too late to chase that Fortnite buzz.

An actual museum would acknowledge the massive part emulation and fan games have played in Nintendo’s cultural footprint. But this isn’t a museum, it’s a corporate slap on the back.

@Ogbert For sure yeah, the auteur mentality can hurt the workers who actually make the magic happen. Teams are responsible for these successes rather than just individuals.

@Ogbert Sort of, but the world of Disco Elysium comes from a book that Kurvitz wrote and it’s not like a Harry Potter situation where so many other voices have contributed to the franchise that there’s an argument to be made in favour of wresting control from the original writer. If there’s other creatives involved here then great, as long as it’s a spiritual successor and not an attempt to reboot the same world.

If there’s devs from the technical side of the game then that’s great, the gameplay of Disco Elysium blew my mind with the simplicity and the way it blended with the narrative. It’s ok that the creatives aren’t involved as it’s not a game set within the same world, that’s where I’d draw the line.

With that stupid PS5 Pro focusing on hair strands’ worth of detail for the grand price of one kidney, just having a portable console running modern games natively and at a good frame rate will be a godsend. @batmanbud2 That is factually wrong. You’ve stated something literally without a shadow of a doubt false. Emulation is not piracy. Emulation can be used for piracy in the exact same way that you can pirate games on a legitimate Switch. That’s like saying playing DVDs on your PC is piracy.

@NotTelevision It’s more a class thing here, young women especially do not get anywhere close to important that quickly without knowing somebody or being related to somebody. @NotTelevision If nothing else, Chappell being American means at least she isn’t privately educated. I quite liked some of the Last Dinner Party’s stuff and they do get a lot of crap but the whole private school crap is practically the only way any band makes it here these days.

I really love these games. Having been brought up going to church on a Sunday and thinking that a lot of the stories were metal as f*ck despite not exactly believing and also slightly put off by the idea that I was a horrible sinner who would burn for all eternity… this ticks all my boxes. It’s like all of the cool bits without the Catholic guilt.

@Zebetite God I loved this package. The museum aspects alone make it so much more appealing than just emulating myself. Also, I f**king hate emulating Atari or similar consoles, I always found it a nightmare. For reference, I’m hopelessly addicted to RetroAchievements and I’d still recommend this game.

Still find it utterly hilarious how there were people moaning about this game being ‘woke’ and they all vanished as soon as it reviewed that well.

Poor Eric does seem to be sort of stuck forever updating this. We do, in general, have a massive problem with letting go or letting things die. It’s ok to get to a point where you can say your work is done. You’ll end up chasing perfection for all eternity. Besides, you just end up with horribly overblown code, sequels are more than anything a great way to trim the fat.
