@d2k Oh for sure, there’s still great third party games on the N64…. it just sorta pales in comparison to the third-party PS1 library. It’s probably due to me being slightly too young for that generation the first time around but I’m honestly not that big on a lot of the first-party PS1 games so that console’s third-party fare really stands out compared to the other consoles of that generation.
@ScalenePowers The N64 in general just has a really small selection of games. If it wasn’t for the first-party selection being genre-defining stuff, it probably wouldn’t be thought of anywhere near as much as it is! My heart lies with the Cube but the esoteric nature of the exclusives on that console is both a strength and a weakness.
Please tell me he’s responsible for Shadow cocking the barrel of an SMG like a shotgun in the opening to Ow the Edge. Man that game sucked. Still got the Morrisons sale sticker on the PS2 case, probably paid too much for it.
@GrowingWings Well the problem is that Kiwami is 100% a sequel to 0! There’s honestly not a best way to start the series but I’m glad I started with 0 back in 2017 cause it was a great enough game to get me into the series.
@DripDropCop146 Spongebob? The first few seasons stand up incredibly well, it’s only the last 15 years or so that have been rubbish. Like the Simpsons.
Up there with my favourite series ever. Yes, 0 is much better than Kiwami but it’s also a decent starting point given 0 does have a hell of a lot of callbacks to the first 5 games in the series.
She’s a great actress but Civ have always made good choices for narrator. Leonard Nimoy, William Morgan Sheppard, Sean Bean and now Gwendoline Christie. It’s a shame that the gameplay makes me want to cry! Cannot fathom why they’ve used Humankind as inspiration when it just did not work.
@Hyrulewarrior Imagine thinking that was remotely funny. There’s not even a joke there, all you’ve done is correlated a horrible disease that is ravaging parts of the world with an unrelated tragic death. There is no way that anybody would ever laugh at such an inane comment.
Backlogs are both a curse and a blessing. I have a million things still to play… but it means I can experience great games for the first time! F-Zero X is a game that genuinely holds up so it’s nice to see it getting some love.
Personally, I think they should just separate categories. There’s a bunch of failsafes so why not disable them in one mode, and enable them in another? Something like this would be patched out of the glitchless mode but retained in a glitches permitted mode.
@VoidofLight It’s always going to be a product of a parasocial relationship. It’s not a follow-up to Undertale, it’s ’more Toby Fox content’. Everything is defined within the boundaries of what we expect from him, which is an issue with the auteur mindset. He also has other devs working on this but we’re getting Kojima levels of THIS IS A TOBY FOX GAME DEVELOPED BY TOBY FOX. There is no way for this to stand on its own two feet, every slightest scrap of content will be torn to pieces by fans trying to decipher if it ‘means anything’ or how it connects to Undertale, and personally I think that’s exactly what he’s banking on. I’ll always prefer Nintendo’s approach of genuinely not caring about canon in series like Mario and Zelda, media in general has become far too cameo heavy, fan theory nonsense etc.
Just bad vibes all round. Undertale was a big deal when it came out but it’s not nearly as revolutionary now, and none of the Deltarune snippets that have released so far have come close in any way to recapturing that lightning in a bottle. He could basically just release some Vivziepop-ass art to a fart soundtrack with flashing text saying ‘MURDER IS BAD’ and the dedicated fanbase would spend 10 years picking it apart like flies on sh*t. I literally saw a post on Reddit trying to work out why there’s a camera in a bush in Undertale despite the game explaining in great detail how Alphys is spying on you with cameras.
DS for me, the click is super satisfying, also I am far too young to have nostalgia for anything before the GBA. The N64 ones and the Super Famicom ones are nice though.
P-06 turned me around on the potential of this game. Yeah, it’s utter sh*t, but clearly there was something there for it to be salvaged. Just release that officially, Sega have form.
@roboshort It’s surely a grey area because could you not define the act of feeding the model these videos as ‘making use of copyrighted materials’? It’s not just viewing the video or anything like that, anything that these models produce, you would then not have gotten without the addition of said copyrighted materials. It’s so much easier to prove than human learning because there’s a digital paper trail. Once it’s in there, the whole batch is tainted and that’s where they’ll get these massive data scraping into model training endeavours in court. If they keep flaunting the rules then eventually the onus will be on them to prove they didn’t have any mishandled data creeping into their training, which will be impossible without running an airtight operation. We’ll end up with rules as strict as user data handling in the EU and UK is now, which to be fair doesn’t strike me as a bad thing, as it requires tech companies to keep on top of every single piece of data being handled by the company.
Fire Emblem is probably the only franchise I’m genuinely disappointed with on Switch. I know people have gripes with the 3DS lot but they’re still superior, the slimming down is justified and they fit the hardware.
We’re going to see more and more charlatans being sued to oblivion over the next few years. Training AI models on copyrighted data is so blatantly taking place, and if any proof comes out then there’s no option but for a hefty payout and complete cease-and-desist.
I must have had this pretty much on release then, I can’t remember a time not owning this game. I remember getting things like Skies of Arcadia Legends later on but I put this into the category of games I just always owned, like Rogue Leader, Luigi’s Mansion etc.
I would say I love Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2, which I do. I also have traumatic memories of watching my older brother absolutely lose his sh*t with the difficulty of that first game.
It’s interesting, although you do have to wonder if the original creators have to be given the pennies they’re owed for the mention. Cause then the dude behind Ren and Stimpy would be getting a payout, and he’s a nonce, statute of limitations be damned.
Feels a bit of a shame if so. Zelda could do with being the main focus, having Link just sort of takes the shine off. Hopefully it’s only a little bit, or that you can only play as him if Zelda summons him or something.
@LadyCharlie Games are ultimately whatever the intention of the developer is. It’s reductive to imply that games have to be exclusively fun at all times and not offer challenge, the medium can be whatever it wants to be. There’s plenty of art games that are purposefully hard too, Getting Over It being a prime example of using the challenge and futility as a metaphor for life, the universe and everything. Games require an active brain and expecting zero challenge is a fantastic way to make your player switch off and lose interest.
We create our own difficulty. If you give in and use other tools to win then fair enough but you only do yourself out of the experience. No different to Action Replay back in the day.
It’s a very healthy attitude for him to have, which is probably because he’s a dev himself now in a senior role. They can only push the one series so far, and people will be happy to see a proper conclusion.
They’ve always been rubbish (and only heard horror stories from workers) but it’s more of a death knell for games retail in general. CEX is about it and that’s a hellhole.
@Burning_Spear Eesh, see a lot of myself in that with regards to ADHD. I have Lost Judgement just sitting there on the final chapter meanwhile I’ve gotten the platinum in 2 Assassin’s Creed games and I’m working on the platinum for Kingdom Hearts 1. Breath of the Wild is sitting on my Switch with 4 beasts but no pressing desire to go back and finish it.

Re: Super Mario Party Jamboree Will Include Pauline As A Playable Character
I do love how she’s just a random woman. Like Peach and Daisy and Rosalina have very ‘Mario’ designs but Pauline is just a sort of glam lady.

@Anti-Matter Yes, that is the definition of a remaster.
Re: The Legend Of Heroes: Trails In The Sky Remake Is Real, And It Looks Amazing
I love Sky but the 3D games never really hit me the same way, I’m not that big into the artstyle and the traversal is a bit less enjoyable!
