Re: Hands On: 'Drag x Drive' Is Fantastic, But Is It Destined To Be Switch 2's ARMS?

iLikeUrAttitude

The problem with ARMS is that it was advertised as a competitive fighting game when it had little to no depth. It was never going to take off as an esport because of it, not to mention it's very boring as a spectator game.
As well as preparing consoles and copies for competitive play is a pain since you have to unlock every single ARM gear.

I can see this game lasting longer than ARMS since it just seems to be a casual basketball game, nothing more nothing less.
Though if the double joycon controls are forced I can see it being a deal breaker for some people.

So, real talk for a moment: who actually uses built in console chat features instead of...I dunno....Discord?

I have friends who play playstation while I'm on PC and they use discord on their console. It makes it convenient for them to be able to VC all on one device instead of having hook up a 3rd party one (another reason why the switch's voice chat is garbage).

While yes this is anecdotal I'm 110% confident a good amount of people use their console VC and prefer over an app like with nintendo, since ya know you're actually provided with basic features like messaging, parties, and native voice chat.
I'm also counting discord on the console because it's part of it and you're still using the console to communicate.

Nintendo needs to take a page off of their book, cause it's really sad how they're still a decade or more behind when it comes to online.

Yeah it's pathetic how the switch after 8 years still has less communication features than last gen systems including that of the Wii U and 3DS.

I don't know what they were thinking when they made the app and unironically expected people to use it. What's even more confusing is that the switch is apparently capable of native voice chat but it has to be enabled by the developers of the game... every time.

He already addressed that in the other part of his statement so his point still stands.
And if I'm being honest, I agree, what's really going to dictate the momentum of the launch sales are going to be the presence of heavy hitters in terms of launch games. $100 or even $150 won't mean that much to dedicated fans if there are games to be had.

The original switch was very reasonable priced for a new console and Botw alone carried the first half of it's sales.
And if speculation is correct about Mario Kart 9 launching with the Switch 2, then it should be a pretty solid launch, probably not as strong as base Switch but better than most consoles.

Re: Feature: 8 Games That Defined The Switch Generation

Half of the placements on this list make absolutely no sense.

Hollow Knight is a critically acclaimed game but why should a port a year after it's initial release be included, especially since it isn't wasn't nearly as big as some 1st party releases.

Witcher 3 is another port that fell into obscurity, it just feels like you added it here because it was an impressive technical achievement at the time. Even Skyrim would've made more sense as a placement.

Hades again another critical acclaimed indie but how did this define the Switch genre? How is the port of a game that release late on the switch generation defining for it?

Fortnite defined the switch genre when it's probably the least played version of it and the worst one by far?
I guess you have a point about the rise of Free to Play games but it feels more of a argument of general gaming and less so the switch which again, is what this list is about.

If I were to rank the list and make it actually make sense here is how I would rank it in no particular order.

Botw - this game alone decided the future of the switch launch to the point where sold more copies than switches at the time via preorders.

Animal Crossing - One of the best games for the covid era, it's release was perfect for it.

Pokemon Scarlet and violet - A new gen pokemon game on the switch speaks for itself.

Mario Kart 8dx - Mario kart on switch. best selling game to this day, so popular they added dlc for it and it's over a decade old.

Mario Odyssey - A Mario game that people didn't know they needed. It also inspired many other platformers after it.

Smash Bros Ultimate - you could dedicate multiple articles to the era of ultimate alone which I'm pretty sure you did.
The dlc hype alone was a event in itself.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - This game alone paved the future of the series to become a mainstay. After 2 we got a remake of 1, sequel, multiple DLC's and now we're getting a port of X thanks for the success of it.

Splatoon 2 - A big part of the multiplayer era of nintendo and a release that also made it a mainstay and to become one of nintendo's most profitable IPs.

You could replace Splatoon 2 with Fire Emblem Three Houses as well and it still make sense.

Re: Nintendo Music Will Add More Tracks Over Time, Here's What's Been Revealed So Far

I'm sorry but thinking nintendo isn't going to be drip feeding their content at this point is delusion considering they've literally been doing it every time shown with their virtual console.

I have no reason to use this app over to the alternative of listening to all the OSTs for free on youtube or other sites than the alternative of praying the series I want gets added... someday.
And with such a lackluster launch library this was not worth taking down all the thousands of tracks other channels ripped for free in high quality and actually giving credit to the artists.
Yeah thanks but no thanks Nintendo I'll just stick to YT music for when I want to listen to your OSTs. It may not be free but its actually worth my money seeing as how it gives me access to all your tracks and more.

Re: Talking Point: Would $499 Be Too Much For 'Switch 2'?

iLikeUrAttitude

If the upgrade was minimal at best I wouldn't buy it for that price, it would feel too much like a rip off.
There has to be a significant enough spec increase for me to warrant purchasing a 'Switch 2', as well as a game to reel me in.
I first bought my switch for xenoblade 2 and the rest of the games releasing for it kept me invested.

I don't have any problem waiting for the switch 2 to build up it's library when it releases or even a price cut, I mostly game on PC now.
