Re: Feature: 8 Games That Defined The Switch Generation

iLikeUrAttitude

Half of the placements on this list make absolutely no sense.

Hollow Knight is a critically acclaimed game but why should a port a year after it's initial release be included, especially since it isn't wasn't nearly as big as some 1st party releases.

Witcher 3 is another port that fell into obscurity, it just feels like you added it here because it was an impressive technical achievement at the time. Even Skyrim would've made more sense as a placement.

Hades again another critical acclaimed indie but how did this define the Switch genre? How is the port of a game that release late on the switch generation defining for it?

Fortnite defined the switch genre when it's probably the least played version of it and the worst one by far?
I guess you have a point about the rise of Free to Play games but it feels more of a argument of general gaming and less so the switch which again, is what this list is about.

If I were to rank the list and make it actually make sense here is how I would rank it in no particular order.

Botw - this game alone decided the future of the switch launch to the point where sold more copies than switches at the time via preorders.

Animal Crossing - One of the best games for the covid era, it's release was perfect for it.

Pokemon Scarlet and violet - A new gen pokemon game on the switch speaks for itself.

Mario Kart 8dx - Mario kart on switch. best selling game to this day, so popular they added dlc for it and it's over a decade old.

Mario Odyssey - A Mario game that people didn't know they needed. It also inspired many other platformers after it.

Smash Bros Ultimate - you could dedicate multiple articles to the era of ultimate alone which I'm pretty sure you did.
The dlc hype alone was a event in itself.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - This game alone paved the future of the series to become a mainstay. After 2 we got a remake of 1, sequel, multiple DLC's and now we're getting a port of X thanks for the success of it.

Splatoon 2 - A big part of the multiplayer era of nintendo and a release that also made it a mainstay and to become one of nintendo's most profitable IPs.

You could replace Splatoon 2 with Fire Emblem Three Houses as well and it still make sense.

Re: Nintendo Music Will Add More Tracks Over Time, Here's What's Been Revealed So Far

I'm sorry but thinking nintendo isn't going to be drip feeding their content at this point is delusion considering they've literally been doing it every time shown with their virtual console.

I have no reason to use this app over to the alternative of listening to all the OSTs for free on youtube or other sites than the alternative of praying the series I want gets added... someday.
And with such a lackluster launch library this was not worth taking down all the thousands of tracks other channels ripped for free in high quality and actually giving credit to the artists.
Yeah thanks but no thanks Nintendo I'll just stick to YT music for when I want to listen to your OSTs. It may not be free but its actually worth my money seeing as how it gives me access to all your tracks and more.

Re: Talking Point: Would $499 Be Too Much For 'Switch 2'?

iLikeUrAttitude

If the upgrade was minimal at best I wouldn't buy it for that price, it would feel too much like a rip off.
There has to be a significant enough spec increase for me to warrant purchasing a 'Switch 2', as well as a game to reel me in.
I first bought my switch for xenoblade 2 and the rest of the games releasing for it kept me invested.

I don't have any problem waiting for the switch 2 to build up it's library when it releases or even a price cut, I mostly game on PC now.

Re: Soapbox: The Erdrick Trilogy Is The Right 'Dragon Quest' For The HD-2D Treatment

iLikeUrAttitude

DQ3 is one of the most influential games of all time easily, especially within the JRPG scene, it paves the path for the standard for RPGs even for games you wouldn't expect (Dark Souls is notable example).

I'm glad that Square is reminding us that they haven't given up on this remake along with DQXII.

If the speculation is correct and they're remaking the whole Erdrick trilogy instead of just 3, then that would explain why we've been waiting so long.
It would make sense given how long we've been waiting since the initial reveal, not to mention Square Enix teased on twitter "The Legend of Erdrick draws near" with the symbol or Erdrick and didn't specify a numbered entry.

Personally I wouldn't mind if it's just 3 as long as they include the additional content from the remakes like the pachisi board and extra postgame dungeons, I just want there to finally be a definitive way to play the trilogy, the mobile/switch remakes are inexcusable and lazily made. If you want a better way to experience the trilogy, skip the mobile/switch versions and instead emulate either the super famicom fan translation of 3 or the GBC version.

Re: Switch "Joy-Con Drift" Class Action Lawsuit Dismissed After Five Years

iLikeUrAttitude

Only fanboys will defend this, the dismissal of this lawsuit is a loss for the consumer letting Nintendo know that they don't have to strive for quality hardware and can get away with it.
People seem to forget that we only got free joycon repairs (At least in the US) because of the lawsuit.

I won't be surprised if this issue is also present in the 'Switch 2'.

For a game that somehow required an extra ten bucks despite a load of recycled assets, you think they would have been able to spend proper development time patching all these holes pre-launch. Don't get me wrong, I've exploited them, but have never seen a Nintendo game this open to it

Ah yes a game isn't allowed to have a single glitch or exploit or else it's rushed and unfinished.

Re: Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince Update Announced For Switch

@Astral-Grain It quite literally isn't subjective as you can actually go out of your way to measure the framerate of the games yourselves, digital foundry and a multitude of other youtube channels do it themselves.
People like @Dazman can pretend to not notice it but that doesn't change the fact that the issue is still present.
What is subjective is how "playable" it is as you mentioned it.

In the anecdotal example you gave me you could just argue that your ability to play the game wasn't hindered that much if at all was because that the framerate issues for TOTK aren't nearly nearly as bad compared to Scarlet/Violet and even to an extent DQM3's. For this entry the framerate issues are plain as day especially in the open world areas.

Look I don't mean to come off as snarky or condescending, I just don't know how else to word this; but I think this is just due to you and a lot of other switch players having much lower standards than the average person, because only on a nintendo forumn would this ever be a discussion about how good a games framerate needs to be and other people justifying it.

I played my fair share of games too with framerate issues and still very much enjoyed them (SMT V, MH Stories 2, XC2), but I would be lying to say that I was disappointed by those aspects in the games and would be delusional to say I didn't derserve better as a consumer.

I play in handheld and it works fine. Probably you're playing it docked?

It has frame drops for both docked and handheld mode, you either don't notice it (though I don't see how considering how prevelant it is) or are just used to it.

Also why is "I didn't experience it msyelf therefore it doesn't exist" such a common defense on this site?
You aren't the only person in the world and this has no substance so you just make yourself look like a shill.
There are multiple people here that pointed it out, even on the review on this site and there are performance reviews you can look on youtube.
The framerate is a huge issue that needs to be addressed.

Re: Feature: The Best Smash Bros. Ultimate Character Trailers, Ranked By You

iLikeUrAttitude

I feel like Banjo only won first place due to nostalgia and not the actual quality of the trailer.
Sure it was funny but it was just a continuation off of K Rool's trailer and they just threw a jiggy and you immediately knew who it was.

Sephiroths trailer had way more effort put into it and got me excited despite me never touching a Final Fantasy game.
Seeing Galeem casually being obliterated then hearing Sephiroths music cue in with him appearing is amazing and theres nothing like it.
Theres also the brilliant blend of CGI and in game shots mixed in well together that also do a ton of subtle yet brilliant references to the game and Advant children movie.

While Banjo was a good addition, his trailer was boring and sadly his gameplay also shows it, Sephiroth easily has the best trailer in smash history.
