@spiderman0616 Honestly Expedition 33 felt like a game you see once a generation. I don't expect many devs to follow suit since, as you see with pokemon, following a familiar formula works just fine.
You're constantly putting words in my mouth and it's blatantly obviously you aren't actually reading my comments. You're just arguing with the made up version of me in your head.
I'm going to voice my opinions and criticism and if you feel so annoyed by it, then by all means block me. I was having actual productive conversations with other people here, I'm not going to waste any further time with you.
While you're right that pokemon has never been visually impressive, back in the handheld era it wasn't criticized for it's presentation because it actually matched the presentation of the console.
As for the difficulty yeah Pokemon has never been that easy, but options to make the game harder would be appreciate instead of fanmade ways to do so.
@spiderman0616 You're right but the series has been adamant about maximizing profits with it's very small 13 million budget. For reference even Expedition 33, a much more polished game had an estimated budget of 18 to 30 million.
@DollyrotsFan1 Being marketed for kids isn't an excuse for the game to look as bad as it does. That was most likely an explanation for the difficulty and formula. The presentation is Gamefreak blatantly cutting corners.
@anubisvel Good that you enjoy it, but I'm going to voice my criticisms whether you like it or not. Criticism is how games improve and pokemon definitely hasn't had enough of it, looking at the releases. I also recommend you actually read the context to what I was replying to, I obviously wasn't calling enjoying the game mental gymnastics.
@DollyrotsFan1 Well at least unlike pokemon Sonic has mostly been listening to it's fans and actual made significant strides in it's series. If every pokemon release in the last decade or so is going to release in such embarrassing state, naturally, it's going to receive just as harsh criticism in return. It's very simple.
Other long running franchises don't receive the same level of flack because they don't release in such embarrassing states. You're overcomplicating it for the sake of it and resorting to your own personal theories when the answer has been very clear for a while - people just want a more polished product from the highest grossing media franchise in the world.
8/10 for me. Visuals in Pokemon games are nowhere near as bad as people say, at least not on every aspect. Many textures look good, performance is pretty much flawless on Switch 2, Pokemon models are nice and so are humans. The problem is that some human animations look rigid and others look good and the exterior environment looks bland. However, interiors look beautiful and there's many different npc models.
No it's exactly as bad as people are saying it is and the fact that you're defending it is baffling. Every building basically have the same jpeg for the windows and look the same, most of which you can't enter. Which is embarrassing since the entire game takes place in the city, so you'd think there would be more effort put into it. The textures for both versions are very low resolution and muddy and it's especially apparent with the water where different layered textures clash over each other like something out of minecraft.
I'm not knocking you for enjoying the game, but going through all these mental gymnastics to defend something that objectively looks terrible isn't a good look.
It's also strange how you just go out of your way to invalidate criticism for the game by just saying most of it isn't real and is pushing some agenda for companies like you worded.
That isn't quite true because you have to understand that only pokemon is being criticized this harshly for the reasons I stated above and many more.
Of course it's going to receive flack for how it looks in the context of it's series when it's the highest grossing media franchise in the world and a multitude of games coming out blow it out of the water visually and performance wise, even in the same genre as it. (Digimon Time Stranger, SMT V, Monster Hunter Stories 2, Palword, list goes on).
Again it's great that you like that game but this is not how you respond to criticism about it.
But like you said it's pretty simple - the game looks mediocre and should so much better especially when it's the highest grossing media franchise in the world.
These articles don't really make sense - having a poll in which a good amount of people who haven't played the vote not to mention this early in the games launch where everyone here probably hasn't finished it is pretty stupid.
I don't have the game nor a Switch 2 and after seeing gameplay of ZA I definitely don't plan to get it because even taking the Switch 2 version in mind it looks terrible. And it's even more baffling how people are rating the Switch 1 version so highly when it runs like garbage.
But then again, it's pokemon. If this was any other IP as someone mentioned, it would be ripped apart.
Hi there, I agree with everything you said, but just a word of advice - you're probably going to be arguing with brick walls when it comes to the quality of pokemon games. The current state of the franchise is why I dropped the series after Sun and Moon and am happily playing much better games. Just finished the Digimon Time Stranger demo and bought the full game
I reccommend you save yourself the headache.
And not sure how reliable this is but a quick google search says that Nintendo does not have a say when pokemon games are released.
Nintendo's role is primarily as a console manufacturer and a 1/3 owner of The Pokémon Company, not as the final decision-maker for Pokémon game releases. It publishes the games on its consoles, but the release dates are set by the development and publishing companies
The game shouldn't of released on Switch 1 considering how garbage it came out. Hopefully next gen is focused specifically on the Switch 2 and doesn't look at disappointing as ZA. Though it's not a surprise that they did considering Nintendo/GF wants to maximize profit and people will buy it anyway.
@Joeynator3000
Yeah same, I was hopeful about this game but then I saw my friends play it and it looked so bland.
The environment and visuals are so lifeless and boring.
Battles are just a watered down versions of xenoblade without the depth and story doesn't look like anything to write home about.
On the bright side digimon story time stranger looks like a much better investment.
Definitely had fun with my friends playing the beta for Crossworlds, problem is that I'm not paying $70 for any kart racer.
I might wait for a sale but I don't really play kart racers like that anymore.
I don't think Sonic Crossworlds is some revolutionary game though, it just feels like Mario Kart fumbled the ball so hard on what should've been an easy bag it just made Crossworlds look that much better.
Oh don't get me wrong, I don't want a rushed product by any means, I'm just disappointed that this is happening in the first place. I thought the Switch 2's extra power would make it so we wouldn't have all of these delays and compromises with it's ports.
@Jujuman Yeah typing in all caps "HAHAHAHA" is making a great case for you lol.
Also you're obviously feigning ignorance but I'll enlighten you. You were the first to insult after I retorted your previous statement. And since you had no real retort you just went to straight to insults.
@Jujuman Well I wouldn't call it a 'problem', it's quite amusing seeing people like you make fools of themselves because they don't have anything smart to say and can only resort to insults. But I'm sure you have a lot to say, so by all means let your frustration out.
@Pillowpants Nintendo absolutely should protect its IPs. Palworld is a blatant ripoff. There is nothing added to the gaming world by copying existing ideas.
Using your logic then Nintendo is also in the wrong. Pokemon itself hasn't innovated anything and was "copying" off existing games that invented the monster catcher and summoner mechanics that have existed for years before it was even a thought. Dragon Quest 5 and The original Megami Tensei did monster catching years before hand. And this summoning nonsense which they just patented was also done long before the series even existed.
Using existing mechanics isn't copying and patent trolling like Nintendo is doing prevents innovation in the gaming industry. This isn't healthy for the comsumer in the slightest.
It's sad that even the Switch 2 is getting bad ports still. Guess I'll stick with my PC for now and only pick one up after Xenoblade, smash, or something that entices me to finally get one.
Nintendo is arguably the most out of touch company when it comes to gaming. At least in the big 3. They're still a decade or more when it comes to online features, hardware wise they're still behind (though it's more excusable since the switch is portable), and they've consistently just being the most anti consumer out of the big 3 companies.
The success Nintendo is still getting has to be attributed by the quality of their games and brand loyalty. Nintendo at least knows that.
With how the Star Fox IP has been treated, it's not surprisingly how he came to feel that way.
It always seemed to have struggled to find it's identify after 64.
it's at a pretty consistent 60FPS, give up the saltiness.
Like they fix the performance massively above what you folk expected, and yet you still have to try and act like its running at 25 FPS or something.
Requiring an entirely new console to make the game playable isn't "fixing" the performance. The original port is still garbage, it's just finally running good on a different platform altogether. The visuals still look terrible since the game has little to no art direction was obviously very rushed.
This isn't "saltiness" it's blunt criticism, something that's rare here. The game released in an unacceptable state and it took this long for it to be playable through legal means.
@hunyow81 Yeah but sadly it works and the Switch 2 preorders selling out in an hour also proves that gamers are willing to pay bloated prices, thus enabling this behavior.

None of these games that are charging $80 seem worth it, just increasing the price because Nintendo did the same.
I'm playing Expedition 33 and I'm having one of the best gaming experiences I had in years and that game is only $50.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Pokémon Legends: Z-A?
@DollyrotsFan1 Yeah I think the spinoff looked cute, more side tracks for the series are always welcome.
As for the main priority it's most likely the anime and merch, with is actually most of the money pokemon generates if i recall correctly.

Not good, was actually rooting for this game to be more.
