Streets Of Rage 4

So, yet another week has been and gone, bringing with it a new Switch system update, new fish and bugs to catch in Animal Crossing, and even the wonderful fact that Tom Nook somehow made it on to the front page of the Financial Times (how utterly brilliant?), but now it's time to finally sit back and relax.

Members of Team Nintendo Life have gathered together to discuss our weekend plans, and we'd love for you to join in via our poll and comment sections below. Enjoy!

This weekend Animal Crossing will be getting side-lined as Streets of Rage 4 takes up my gaming time. Along with so many fans, I’ve been waiting to see if it can possibly stand alongside the mighty Mega Drive trilogy. If the first few stages are anything to go by (not to mention the very warm critical reception), it manages to be more than a simple love letter to the past, with new mechanics, music and a style of its own which push the series forward without losing that special juice. Throughout development I was relatively confident it would end up more of a Sonic Mania than a Sonic the Hedgehog 4, but it might have surpassed even that awesome revival. So I'll be on a grand upper this weekend.

I mean, I’ll also be carrying on with my flower breeding and turnip purchasing, but that’ll be squeezed in between brawling in the streets. Animal Crossing and Streets of Rage – what a double bill!

This weekend, I'll probably have a ton of free time and not much that I'm interested in playing, so I'm sure I'll start to dig into my backlog, maybe take a break from Nintendo games and just go read a book... yeah, I can't do this.

Animal Crossing. I'm gonna be playing Animal Crossing all weekend long, friends. Every time I think I can break away, they add a new update - like May Day's - and I am totally okay with that.

It's finally happened, everyone. I've finally started to slow down a little with Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I still have plenty of things that I want to achieve and I'm still finding a little bit of time each day to make a bit of money and check for new goods in the shops, but I'm definitely starting to find myself turning the game off a little quicker than I used to.

Alongside that, I've been getting stuck into Resident Evil 4 on the Wii for the very first time. It's actually my first experience with the franchise as a whole and I was nervous that I wouldn't like it as much as everyone else - perhaps everyone else felt nostalgic over it and it wouldn't actually be that great to play by today's standards - but I really shouldn't have been. I'm really enjoying my time with it so far, even with Ashley shouting 'Leeeooooon' every five minutes.

I have been counting down the days until release and I admit to being relieved that it is here and it is magnificent: Streets of Rage 4 is already on my GOTY 2020 shortlist! On the other hand, I also plan to play Streets of Rage 4 now that I have unlocked Adam. I will also make some time to try Streets of Rage 4 - heard the soundtrack is all sorts of amazing. But will need to fit in a bit of Streets of Rage 4 to discover those secret retro levels. Will also try to play some Streets of Rage 4 under protest because Shiva remains an NPC… at the time of writing, at least.

My game of the week is… well, wouldn't you know, it’s Streets of Rage 4! Didn't see that coming. Pass the floor chicken, please.

Which games are you playing this weekend?
