Re: Square Enix Is Apparently Open To A Nintendo Version Of Final Fantasy XV

charliecarrot

FFXV is a divisive game, sure - it's also one of the best selling in the entire franchise, easily beating out sales of FFXIII. It would be silly not to bring it onto modern consoles. Ideally, yes, they update it to fill in some missing gaps.

Bring them all, I say! FFXIII is still one of my favorites, and it's so interesting to see people asking for that game in these comments considering how much I used to defend it against an overwhelming tidal wave of hate back when it released. We can have both.

Re: Rhythm Heaven Groove Drums Up Switch Release Date

charliecarrot

I've played and loved every Rhythm Heaven game that's released in the USA. I currently have the track "New Friend" from Rhythm Heaven Megamix stuck in my head, as I often do (it's such a banger, especially when the flute comes in)

I can't explain how excited I am.

Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Would You Most Like To See Remade?

charliecarrot

Yeah I don't know, a game that's not already available would be cool!

Something I wish Nintendo would do more is minor remasters/remakes of their old 2D games. The Link's Awakening remake was great, but we don't NEED that style for everything. Look at what Square Enix has done with pixel remasters, or the HD-2D remakes. Look at howe the Star Ocean and Suikoden remakes were handled. Bring the pixel art back but fit it to the current standard screen ratio and resolution (even Nintendo has done this before with Super Mario All-Stars). I'd love something like that for any of those 2D retro classics that have never received a facelift!

Why are the only options for retro Nintendo games "exact port of the original" or "full and complete remake" - there should be room for a middle ground! Give us HD-2D Link to the Past or the Oracle games done in a modern pixel art style!

Re: Review: Genki Covert Dock 3 And ShadowCast 3 - A Surprisingly Compact Mobile Capture Duo For Your Switch 2

charliecarrot

I love the idea! I worry about using any sort of 3rd party dock with such a new system. However unlikely, it's possible Nintendo could push an update that just "happens" to brick consoles using 3rd party docks or something.

My favorite one with the original switch was a minimal shell where you took the components out of an official Switch dock and used them inside the tiny shell. At least that feels a little safer because it uses all the actual dock hardware and inputs, so it should have perfect compatibility with any firmware updates.

But yeah if there's not any problems reported by the community after a year or two I may just pick one up!

Re: Acclaimed Arcade Racer 'Horizon Chase Turbo' Being Delisted From Switch eShop

charliecarrot

@antonvaltaz That's a great point that adds a lot to the discussion. I wanted to get into that a bit too. I'm not on one side or the other. I think everyone should take a step back and think about what "ownership" even refers to when it comes to software created by someone else. True ownership is really only the IP holder's in my mind, no matter how much I disagree with a lot of copyright law. I know there's a lot more nuance, but software in general is so relatively new that I'm sure many things are still up in the air.

Re: Acclaimed Arcade Racer 'Horizon Chase Turbo' Being Delisted From Switch eShop

charliecarrot

On the ownership of digital software discussion, besides the excellent explanation of DRM by @saanaito there's also the fact that: just because you can currently redownload a digital game you purchased in the past, I'm not sure that says much about your ownership of that product.

If Sony shuts down their servers that let you redownload PSP games you purchased in 2007, does that mean you suddenly no longer own those games? Is your ownership dictated by the continued availability of the hosted game files by the original distributor? I don't think that makes a whole lot of sense.

What if my Wii catches on fire and I can't redownload the WiiWare games I purchased anymore since the ability to redownload purchased Wii Shop Channel games is tied to the console itself? Did I own the digital games before it caught on fire and then no longer owned them after it went ablaze?

Any digital product you purchase on a Nintendo console is (for the most part) a revocable, non-transferable license to access that piece of software under certain terms.

Re: 50 Best Game Boy Advance Games Of All Time

charliecarrot

@SillyG Funny enough, after looking at gameplay videos of both, Bustin' Out is the one I think I remember the best! Mowing the lawn and fixing up the old shack and whatnot. I must've had both, but the orange cartridge art of Urbz stands out more in my memory. I still have a copy of the Urbz for GBA, but I'll have to track down the other one!

Re: 50 Best Game Boy Advance Games Of All Time

charliecarrot

@SillyG You just reminded me of the existence of The Urbz: Sims in the City on GBA, and I will be locating that and playing it today. So many good memories, even if it's not the best game out there. Thank you for bringing it up.

Re: 50 Best Game Boy Advance Games Of All Time

charliecarrot

Golden Sun is one of the best JRPGs I've ever played and a true shining example of quality in the genre. Super engaging story with fun gameplay mechanics that are useful outside of battle! Yes, you can use your "magic" to solve puzzles and interact with NPCs in the overworld! Not many JRPGs integrate the exploration and battle abilities like that.

Re: Cult Classic 'The 7th Guest' Is Getting A Full Remake On The Switch

charliecarrot

This is exactly the same game I've been playing recently on PSVR2. I'm not sure why they're calling it a remake.

@neil9000 and @The_Nintendo_Expat got it

It's honestly been one of my favorite experiences in VR so far, which might sound silly, but it's super immersive without being actiony/stressful... Great in VR if you can play it that way.

Re: Talking Point: After 30 Years, Is It Time To Reset The Pokédex?

charliecarrot

I totally agree and think the Pokedex is getting too big and too overwhelming. I'd love a return to the Black / White style of focusing solely on new 'mons.

Downside is they'll probably end up creating lots of filler Pokemon to fit every existing niche/archetype instead of just using the perfectly good designs they already have for those roles (do we really need another normal/flying bird and early route rodent and cave bat?)

But they don't HAVE to do that. It could give them a chance to really shake things up by subverting the expected formula a bit - throwing unexpected archetypes at us early on, switching up average team compositions in new and exciting ways and so on.

Do I think they'll do that? No.

Re: Review: Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen (Switch) - Red-Hot Nostalgia In A So-So Wrapper

charliecarrot

The games are what they are, and we all know what they are. Given they've had no updates, reviews should probably reflect the current packaging in the context of 2026 rather than focusing only the content of the games themselves - and this review does that nicely.

The original FRLG were great when they released. They're still better Pokemon remakes than BDSP because they brought Gen 1 fully into Gen 3.

You can love the games themselves. But this packaging? Really disappointing. If it was any other game from 20+ years ago and they just threw up a ROM on the eShop, people would rightly call it out as a "lazy" release. Why should it be any different just because this is Pokemon?

Re: Rumour: Sony Apparently Has Gran Turismo Running On Switch 2, Just Don't Expect To See It

charliecarrot

Gran Turismo 7 is great!

I don't know how I feel about a competitor handheld. That is what all the rumors are saying but... They've just gotten too big and bulky for me to care about them. The Vita form factor would be great, but I don't really need another large portable other than a Switch 2.

I do own a PS Portal, but I don't ever use it because I have a TV available and PS5 games are vastly superior on a big TV.

I'd be interested to see how a PS handheld would actually compete. Maybe it would go after the steam deck/handheld PC crowd. But is that a big enough market to go after?

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite 3DS Model?

charliecarrot

I only ever had the original 3DS (black & gold Zelda anniversary edition) until I decided to pick up a New 3DS XL from eBay a year or so ago.

Now I have two n3DSXL systems for... Reasons (first one I bought broke and I ordered a second but ended up fixing the first). Thankfully they only seem to be increasing in value.

Re: Gallery: Here's A Look At Pokémon FireRed And LeafGreen On Switch

charliecarrot

I have no interest at all in paying $20 to play a vanilla version of a 25 year old GBA game without save states or fast-forward! No thank you - seems almost like some kinda scam to me.

Based on these comments, it again looks like the Pokemon company will get away with doing the absolute least and be rewarded by making millions upon millions for it. I'm not surprised one bit.

Re: "We Thought It Would Be Fun" - Nintendo Explains Why Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen Aren't On Switch Online

charliecarrot

Yeah I just don't get it. I have these games on my 3DS and tablet, if I wanted to play them. And I don't, really. Just no desire to revisit Kanto yet again.

I'm glad if this appeals to people, but I'm lost on the choice of just throwing up ROMs of 20+ year old Gen 1 remakes onto the eShop. Baffling.

This is also before the physical/special split, so it's gonna feel pretty outdated...

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 5 Pokémon?

charliecarrot

I didn't play Black/White back when they came out, but I remember following the internet bandwagon of thinking the designs looked silly and uninspired.

Now that I played through Pokemon Black after 10+ years of not touching a Pokemon game, being forced to make a team full of all new-to-me mons made me fall in love with the roster.

I think forcing new Pokemon on players was one of the best decisions they ever made, and even though I understand why they haven't done that again since, I really wish they would!

Re: Mini Review: Paranormasight: The Mermaid's Curse (Switch) - Plenty To Plunder In This Solid Sequel

charliecarrot

Interesting how much of a departure it seems to be from the first game. I guess it depends on what stood out to you - the cultural stories and myths, or the curses themselves and the dark, oppressive atmosphere. I really liked both aspects, and I enjoyed the jump scares of the first in the dark (actually screamed out loud at one point).

I'll probably still pick this up because the art style, presentation, and music made the first game really special for me.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 4 Pokémon?

charliecarrot

I have fond memories of this generation as it was the last one I played at release. I never even got to Gen 5 until a year ago.

However, not a lot of new Pokemon stand out. There's some powerful ones that everyone tends to use. But for me, I'll always love Piplup.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 2 Pokémon?

charliecarrot

Chikorita, of course! Suicune is a very close second. And I'm talking favorite Pokemon overall, out of all of them.

Love Gen 2. I managed to snag a copy of Pokemon Crystal after finishing my time with Blue. It was so cool how there was a day night cycle, Pokemon daycare, and new types!

Looking back I think it is a weaker generation - the progression of gyms wasn't as consistent as Gen 1, and it just reused a lot from the first games, especially when you look at how much the later games diverged. But this was before a strong pattern was established, and GSC acted a bit more like a sequel to the previous gen.
