Re: Nintendo Appears To Have Given Its Game Cases A Makeover On Switch 2

I'm holding out hope that they look better in person because I do not like these renders at all.

Something about the giant red forehead with the tiny switch 2 logo, and the way the red banner bleeds into the red plastic along the side of the case... It takes the focus away from the game art, and kinda makes it look asymmetrical. Compared to Switch 1 cases which were translucent and didn't have much to take your eyes away from the beautiful cover art.

@KBuckley27 "Last-gen" is a weird concept here. Switch is last gen, but it struggled with some of its own 1st party games! PS4 was last gen, and it far out out powered the Switch and its 2015 tablet specs.

So sure, all of these upgraded games could've easily run on most last gen consoles, but not the Switch. Switch 2 will give developers a lot more breathing room instead of having to heavily optimize to get stunning looking games.

Why why why is it a game key? I know that game could fit on a cartridge, easy. I thought the game key thing would be for huge games that require installs on other systems.

Also, it was my impression that game installs on PS5 and Xbox are mostly due to limitations of optical disc read speeds? Much faster to read from an SSD than a Blu-ray. That shouldn't be a problem with the fancy new Switch 2 game cards, right?

This should be a pack in. Reminds me of a boring, manual version of Astro's Playroom on PS5. That also showed off all the new PS5 controller features, but it was a super cute platformer with stunning visuals and memorable music.

This is a virtual manual. This should be free. Especially if the goal is to get new players acquainted with the new features. What a weird decision.

Re: Nintendo Drops Teaser Video For The Switch 2's 'C' Button

I think it would be wild and super unlikely for a dedicated button in a prominent place on the main controller to be the "connect with your 8 year-old console" button.

I mean, Nintendo has made some outlandish choices in the past, but I'll be shocked if that's what the C button actually does. Maybe that's one of the possibilities and it's a more general purpose "connect" button like others have pointed out.

But using your old switch as a Wii U style gamepad is so niche and wouldn't end up being used for anything except to play the handful of Wii U games that didn't get a switch port already, and maybe to play DS/3DS virtual console. Both of those use cases are too niche for a dedicated button, and little to no developers are going to make games that utilize a feature if it requires consumers to own a completely different console.

Re: Capcom Unveils Monster Hunter Wilds, Coming In 2025

So excited for this! As someone who's played Monster Hunter since the PSP games, I'm super pumped to see something that looks new again. I'm hoping it takes more cues from World's focus on ecology and habitat - that was something that really drew me back into the series, and in my opinion, breathed fresh life into it after countless releases that were barely distinct from MHFU. I loved the mobility of Rise, but that game sacrificed a lot of the environmental world building that made World so special.

Odd to me that this wasn't announced for switch when the graphics don't look super improved compared to Rise (although I'm sure the number of monsters on screen at once is very resource intensive).
