Re: Magnetic Joy-Con Sticks Already In The Works For Switch 2 Amid Fears Of Drift

bstie1198

If the Switch 2 joycons end up having prevalent stick drift, that'd be surprising considering how systemic the problems were with the original Switch. Having said that, I don't know why people got so up in arms about the problem on Switch considering Nintendo was repairing / replacing them for free. I've sent away three joycons and the repair process was straightforward and painless every time. I guess the biggest issue would be having a backup set to use during the repair window, but the turnaround time wasn't that long, so it wouldn't be too long that you'd be out of service if you don't have backups.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Year In Review 2024 - Our Most Played Games

@kmtrain83

I really liked it, but you have to be able to enjoy a basic turn based RPG in order to enjoy it. It's incredibly old school. You're pretty much thrown into the deep end and have to figure everything out. I think I did everything possible in the game in my 51 hours (navigated to every square on every level, obtained every character, defeated every enemy, etc).

I have been considering re-buying it on Playstation to get a platinum trophy. Just waiting on a sale of at least 50% off.

Re: Nintendo Emulator 'Delta' Adds iPad Support With Version 1.6 Update

bstie1198

@PikminMarioKirby I have NSO and a large amount of VC games on WiiU and 3DS, but I use this app daily. I've been playing the Japanese exclusive Fire Emblems with fan translation patches. And yes, I own imported cartridges of them and could do the same on my Retron 5, but it's much more convenient to do this on my phone and I'm actually making progress on my gaming backlog now. Virtual buttons aren't a major hinderance for turn based tactical games.

Re: Review: Final Fantasy I-VI Pixel Remaster - A Beautiful And Faithful Reimagining Of The Classics

bstie1198

As with some others in the comments, V is my favorite game in this collection. While VI had the best story, graphics and music (at least in the original versions of these games), the job system and gameplay of V is enough to put it over the top for me. I spent so many hours mastering every single job with every single character back in the day. I already have FF I through X-2 on my Vita (along with other versions on other systems), so I don't think I'll be re-buying this collection until it gets a significant discount. I would probably double dip on V during a more modest sale, though.

Re: Wingspan: European Expansion Takes Flight On Switch Soon

bstie1198

Wingspan the board game is great. The Switch version is good. The European Edition DLC seems a bit different than the European Expansion for the board game (with respect to the environments, although that appears to be just cosmetic). I'll be picking this up if it's $10 or less (hoping for $5).

Re: Video: PlayStation Vita Apps Are Up And Running On Switch, Here's A Look

bstie1198

Vita is by far my favorite system of all time, and I have well over 100 games for it. Probably closer to 200. And that's not counting PSP games, PS1 Classics and minis, all of which run better on Vita (unlike DS games on 3DS systems). Outside of the absurdly priced proprietary memory cards (a huge negative to be fair), it was pretty much a perfect system, IMO. I've logged more hours on it than anything else for sure. I'd say I used it for about 50 times as many hours as my 3DS XL. I consider my Switch to be Vita 2.0 since I don't ever use it docked except for Ring Fit Adventure.

Re: Talking Point: Super Mario 3D Land Turns 10 - Was It The Best '3D' Game On 3DS?

bstie1198

I got a headache and eye strain from the 3D effect, so I didn't play with it on. Without the 3D gimmick, I found 3D Land to be a generic disappointment, and my second least favorite 3D Mario game only ahead of Sunshine. At least I still did everything in this game with both Mario and Luigi, unlike Sunshine which I never actually completed. I'm glad others like it, though. There are plenty of other great games (Mario and otherwise) for me to enjoy.

Re: Talking Point: Should We Be Worried About Screen Burn-In With Switch OLED?

bstie1198

I’ve put thousands of hours into my OLED Vita, more than any other console, probably. It’s held up quite well, despite hundreds of hours on the same title at times. I’m confident that the OLED Switch would hold up fine with my usage patterns. I plan on getting the OLED Switch when the time comes for a second Switch in my house, either due to my original one dying or if I decide to upgrade and give my kids full ownership of the current one (unless a true Pro model is out by that time).

Re: Danganronpa: Decadence Brings Four Murder-Mayhem Games To Switch Later This Year

bstie1198

Excited for those who haven't played the series before.

For me, I'm not sure what to get. Physical with everything, just the expanded board game since it's new, or also V3 (even though it's the worst of them, it's also the biggest, and would save room on my Vita memory cards for other games to have perma-downloaded in case the PSN shop for Vita shuts down). I'm leaning towards the physical cart with all four. I really like the strategy of a physical collection or individual games on eShop. Hopefully other companies take notice and continue that practice.

Re: Feature: Every Mega Man Game Ranked

bstie1198

The fact that Mega Man Anniversary Collection (GC) is in the top third and not dead last completely invalidates this list. The reversed controls with no way to customize make it completely unplayable. It's frustrating, because it would have been a good game otherwise. I had to return it and get the PS2 edition instead to have jump and shoot in the right locations. I have quibbles with some of the other rankings as well, but that one is just plain wrong.

Re: Celeste Devs Release Retro Celeste Mini-Sequel To Celebrate The Game's Third Anniversary

bstie1198

I enjoyed my time with Celeste, but I gave up halfway through the C-Side levels. I didn't beat the final super long bonus regular level, either. I'm a glutton for punishment, but once you moved past the B-sides, it got to be too much even for me. I don't think I'll bother with the classic sequel until/unless it's embedded in a future full game sequel (or comes out on a console I own). Not interested in using my pc to play PICO-8.

Re: Feature: Remembering Super Mario 3D Land, 3D World’s Oft-Forgotten Predecessor

bstie1198

I always knew I was in a minority in not liking the game much, but didn't realize just how much of a minority I'm in. It's definitely my least favorite 3D Mario by a long shot (although I haven't played Sunshine). Everything felt kind of generic and boring to me, with the exception of the top down Zelda homage level. That one was pretty neat. It didn't stop me from getting to 100% with Mario and Luigi, but overall I found it to be a disappointment.

Re: Nintendo Download: 3rd December (North America)

bstie1198

Fire Emblem preordered and downloaded already. Not sure when I'll actually play it, as I have played through the fan translation before, and am in the middle of playing Mystery of the Emblem (early on in Book 2), so I recently played through a slighly abridged SNES remake of the same game. I mostly bought this in the hopes that other Japan only games receive official releases in the West.

Re: Sega Black Friday Sale Offers Lots Of Great Savings On Switch (North America)

bstie1198

@BongoBongo It's not essential by any means, and it's overpriced compared to the sale of the main game. I enjoyed most of the dlc levels, and you get additional playable characters from the majority of them (many are from the original game, so it's a bit of fan service). I bought it because I'm a big fan of the series, but unless it's currently on discount, it's by no means essential.

BTW, the original game on sale for $10 includes all the previously released DLC in the base game.

Re: Sega Black Friday Sale Offers Lots Of Great Savings On Switch (North America)

bstie1198

@everynowandben I love both series, but I have to agree. They're only similar in that they're SRPGs. I like platformers in general, but enjoying Mega Man doesn't mean I like Sonic.

Having said that, VC 4 is a really fun game, and probably the second best in the series behind 3, which was never officially released outside of Japan (but worth tracking down and applying the fan translation). The original VC is also on sale ($10 vs regular of $20) if anyone wants to start in the beginning, but it's not as good as 4. I bought the original on PS3, Steam, and PS4, but will probably grab a copy on Switch to show support for the series.

Re: CIRCLE Entertainment Kicks Off Autumn Switch Sale, Get Up To 85% Off Select Games

bstie1198

A Dark Room is worth considering at 85% off. It's a text based resource management game that eventually adds in turn based RPG elements with a randomly generated world map. The story is fairly interesting. I enjoyed it enough on iOS to buy it again on a previous sale. There's a plot twist part way through the game that really changes the tone of things, but the game can be beat a more challenging way that is less morally compromised (best saved for a second play through).
