Update: And the game has appeared for sale on the North American eShop! It would appear that the late November launch only applies outside that region — we’ll update this post should the situation change.
It took a few years, but the return of Daniel LaRusso and his old rival Johnny Lawrence to screens via YouTube a couple of years ago (and subsequently picked up by Netflix) was quite the thrill for anyone with fond memories of the original Karate Kid movies. Daniel's son was first spotted with a Switch onscreen back in the second season of the show, and it seems that young Ant will soon have a new game to plug into his console — Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues is releasing on 24th November.
This beat 'em up is launching today on other platforms and the Switch game was scheduled to join them as far was we knew, although after heading to Nintendo's site it appears that the Switch version won't be available for nearly a month. Still, it wouldn't be the first game launching today on other platforms while also getting a cheeky little delay on Nintendo's console.
According to the PR, the game was created with the involvement of series’ creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, featuring an original story with the voices of Ralph Macchio, William Zabka and more actors from the show. You're able to choose between Daniel LaRusso and his students at Miyagi-Do Karate, or Johnny Lawrence and Cobra Kai gang in a story with cutscenes, combos and, of course, karate.
You can check out the launch trailer above for a brief look at gameplay and story snippets, and here's some more detail from the official blurb, followed by some screenshots:
Seamlessly swap between eight playable heroes from both dojos, each with their own movesets, combos, ultimates and more. Master dozens of unique abilities and upgrade your characters’ stats and RPG-like skill trees. Face down fierce enemies and bosses in hard-hitting brawls across 28 story missions around the Los Angeles of the Cobra Kai universe. The fight is in your hands!
The game will retail for £34.99 / 39,99€ / $39.99, and it's up for pre-order in all the usual places.

It doesn't look so good based on the trailer and screen shots, but I may grab it on sale down the road. The show is super fun.
.............. Okay.............
🤔🤔🧐😱😨
Looks kinda...... Uhhhhh....... Gameplay is kinda....... Uhhh 🤔 🤣
if the trailer is highlights god help it. the animation looks awfull.
Yrahh, the Animations looks made by a kid starting computer sciences
The game looks like hot garbage to me.
The publisher is synonymous with "meh" games.
Not getting the game but awaiting season 3
Saw this on the eShop coming soon section and as a fan of the show (and movies), I came away... how can I say this nicely... shall we just say I was unimpressed.
It's available today. In US anyway.
I waxed Ralph Macchio's car once. He didn't tip well.
So does this mean that this is a sequel to Karate Kid on NES?
Looks like a ds game. Game Mill oh Game Mill. When will you stop making crappy licensed games.
Strike first.
Looks like the kinda shopped-out, half-assed, movie tie-in we used to get constantly back in the 16-bit era, but now with those modern fugly almost Flash-like, generic and uninspired 3D visuals.
One to get in sales. Looking forward to Series 3 in January though.
Whatever, it still looks an improvement over the NES Karate Kid...
Hated that Typhoon stage!
Netflix series is getting a switch game?
Gavin, It was already confirmed that the Jackie Chan/Jayden Smith film is not part of the same universe, as the producers said on Twitter.
Series is 10/10 game does not look good but who knows
This is the best current TV show on right now period. If you haven't seen it and you've seen the 80's Karate Kid movies you are missing out.
As far as the game, I'll wait for a discount/reviews.
Love the show, but I’m still smarting from my childhood purchase of LJN’s The Karate Kid, the NES’ answer to Atari’s ET.
I might be the only person to actively like the NES game (it’s honestly just NES Kung Fu with some meh platforming thrown in, it’s not terrible), and even I think this looks like fodder for the bargain bin
That's a $3 game.
I checked out some reviews and surprisingly it's getting pretty decent ones! This could easily be a 7 or 8/10. It's nothing amazing but it has a cool soundtrack and actual voices from the show! some might be turned off by the graphics but it still looks like a good time. Reminds me of Double Dragon neon which i loved. I'd say if you like that odds are you'll like this.
The show is AWESOME and this looks like a Streets Of Rage/Double Dragon clone but with a bit more depth (like the show) so it defo goes on the wish list.
After having watched the show, the cheesiness here actually kind of entertains me. I thought it looked pretty bad initially when I first saw screenshots, but the show, while pretty awesome, certainly has its cheesy moments as well, so it kind of fits.
Though that picture of the kid doing that move with the Miyagi-Do logo in the back, is kind of unfortunate. It looks like his special move is armpit smell kick.
