I came to post my love for Uniracers, and was pleasantly surprised to see it on the list. I'll throw out Bust-A-Move instead. I spent so many hours with that game.
I played pretty religiously for around four or five months before getting burned out. I still log in daily for the freebies, but hadn't actually played in a month or more. Yesterday, I actually spend the 180ish orbs I accumulated on the new banner. I got some solid characters, so I might go back and play the newer levels that I've missed.
I'm on the fence. The only game I want but don't own (in multiple formats) is Star Fox 2, which isn't worth $80 to me, although I'd definitely like to play it. I'd like to know the length of the controller cables, too...
It's a pretty glorious collection for the more casual market, though. My personal lineup wouldn't be that different, and I don't begrudge the inclusion of any of the games that made the cut.
That's a shame. The collection seems like it'd be best on Switch (or Vita), but it's hardly as essential as the original. 7 and 8 aren't very good games, IMO. The remix / challenges wouldn't be as fun with those two being 50% of the content. As for the original games, I don't really feel the need to revisit 9 and 10, but if they were portable, I'd probably double dip (or triple dip for 9, since I own that one on Wii and PS3).
@brutalpanda Easier said than done. I've actually cut my backlog down quite a bit over the past few years. It had been over 250 games at one point. PS+ adds six games a month (unless I already own an offering), and I have no plans to get rid of that service. That means I probably took 150 games off of my backlog to reduce it by 60 in total. I rarely pay more than $10 for a retail game that started at $60 MSRP, but it's hard to resist when they're on sale for $5 or less, like they tend to do on PSN. Similarly with digital titles when they go down below $2. I've paid retail (minus 20% preorder discount) for exactly four games in the past eight years: Uncharted 4, Valkyria Chronicles Remastered, Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma, and Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. In every case, I used gift cards from my birthday or Christmas to finance the purchases, so no out of pocket expense. Those are four of my favorite series, and I wanted to play them right away, and to show support to the developers.
If it ever goes on sale (for everyone or via My Nintendo rewards), I'll probably pick it up. I won't be playing the main game for a while anyway, even though I preordered. My backlog is going to be at 190 games once it shows up in the mail later today. At minimum, I want to finish the original Fire Emblem, which I imported to play with a translation patch on my Retron 5. I may play the original Gaiden first as well (another import in the backlog).
I have it preordered, but I'm not completely sure why. I think it looks great and am looking forward to it, but I won't be playing it for several years. My backlog is currently sitting at 189 games, and includes six earlier Fire Emblems that I would want to complete first (including Gaiden). Oh well, at least if the game becomes hard to find due to being released so late in the 3DS life cycle, I'll have my copy handy.
I'd love to see Fire Emblem Path of Radiance for $20 instead of ~$100-$150. That would push my Switch decision from "I'll get it eventually when it's cheaper" to "I need it ASAP".
Hoping for a Path of Radiance on Switch VC announcement. I didn't get into the series until Awakening, and I'd like an option to play PoR for less than $90. Having it in portable form would be an even bigger bonus.
I thought the presentation was terrible. I'm still excited for the system, at least the potential of the system. I'll wait for bundles and/or Black Friday deals at the earliest. If the paid online service has a PS+ / Games With Gold component, I'll probably jump in then. If it's just for online multiplayer, I'll keep waiting for a good deal.
I preordered, but I won't actually play this for years, if ever. My backlog is currently sitting at 194 games, and that doesn't count three more that I bought on eBay that have shipped but not arrived. Also, I stalled 10 hours into DQ V, and need to finish off V, VI and VII before I actually play VIII. At least the PS2 original was already in my backlog, so I'm just shifting systems instead of adding to the backlog.
The 3D gives me a headache and eye strain, so I always play with the slider down. It definitely wasn't a system seller of a feature for me. It's a shame for those that enjoy the feature, but I can't say I'll miss it.
After sitting in my backlog for a few years, I've been totally consumed by Fire Emblem: Awakening over the past few weeks. It's my first FE (although I have the GBA game in my backlog on WiiU VC). I might grab Shadow Dragon on VC, but I'm worried that it won't play well, and I'd be better served to just get the DS game for a few dollars more. Especially since I prefer portable gaming...
Hopefully the three modes are available separately. Only the first mode is interesting to me. I'll try all of the modes for free, but I expect that I'd rather pay $5 for that as opposed to $10 for everything.
I have it preordered, but I still have to get through DQ V, VI, and VII before I play it. At least it won't add to my backlog (currently 198 games), because the PS2 version is already on there (same situation as DQ VII and the PS1 version before the 3DS version was released).
It's not a very good system at present, and the current rewards are even more sad than usual. I thought all the expiring stuff would be replaced and not just removed. Having said that, I did get two free games for my 3DS (although I didn't really care for WarioWare), and some Mario Kart DLC, so it's better than nothing, even if it's inferior to Club Nintendo.
Shadowhawk was an interesting character. His identity was hidden from the reader for the first seven issues or so. Instead, the comic was written in second person, as shown in the one cut scene from the game. Once the character was revealed, his origin was fairly unusual as well. While working as a DA, he was injected with HIV by someone who he was prosecuting, which is what drove him to become Shadowhawk. He also paralyzed the criminals he fought. He came to regret doing that on his death bed before he died of AIDS. Alan Moore wrote an interesting story about Shadowhawks from various eras, and the Shadowhawk Special from 1994 had one of the better Silver Age Batman parodies I've ever read.
DQ 7 retail for me. Even better, it doesn't add to my backlog (currently sitting at 191 games), since DW 7 for PS1 was already on there. I'll just shift over to the 3ds version instead.
Wind Waker is my favorite game of all time. I didn't like anything else on the system nearly as much, so I only made one vote. I had originally checked off Twilight Princess (even though I played it on Wii), SSB Melee and Soul Caliber II, as I enjoyed them all quite a bit, but it felt wrong to give them equal weight to Wind Waker. I couldn't find a fifth game. I owned several other games on the list, but for the most part didn't care for them.
@msvt Are you referring to Axiom Verge? Actually, it's still $20. I think it's only been on sale two or three times since coming out on PS4 over a year ago, once around seven months or so after launch, once after the Vita version got a release date, a similar $18 Vita launch week discount, and one more sale since then. I haven't tracked how often it appears in Steam sales, but it's currently $20 there, too. It's hardly an unknown game at this point, either.
I bought it the day it came out on Vita (my preferred gaming device), and absolutely loved it. My favorite aspect was the music, but everything about the game is top notch. Glad to see a 10/10 review for the WiiU edition.
I'm skeptical, as they struggled to get this game up and running on Vita, but more power to them if they can figure it out for New 3DS. It's worth playing wherever you can get it.
About to pull the trigger on the Mega Man Legacy Collection. I want PSN trophies for these games, but portability wins out (if only it was on Vita). I'd like confirmation on the controls, though. Am I stuck with the Virtual Console style B for Shoot and A for jump, or can I configure it to use the more comfortable Y to shoot and B to jump configuration?
I just got the Platinum Trophy of Axiom Verge on my Vita last night. Fantastic game. Very happy that those without Sony systems are going to be able to enjoy it. I was most blown away by the soundtrack, but the whole package is amazing.
Saddened by this news. I play video games with my almost four year old daughter once a week. Over the past month or two, we've gone to only playing Disney Infinity. We probably have 30 figures in the house (including four more that she'll open on her birthday later this week). Having said that, despite all the figures we have, she mostly plays as Elsa and makes me be Woody and freezes me to death over and over and/or carries me to a cliff and throws me off. I think we have enough content to last us for several years, and if the figures / play sets I'm most interested in come down in price, even better.
I voted for Xenoblade Chronicles, but I won't be buying it right away. I'll snag it eventually, hopefully on sale (although Nintendo is always more stingy with sales than their competitors). Very happy that it's available for $20 at the most for whenever I'm ready. Maybe I'll treat myself if I ever get my backlog down under 100 games again (it's at 187 after the Humble Bundle, and it'll grow by at least 5 games on Tuesday when the May PS+ games release, more if I don't own the extra games they add the the bundle).
Has anyone tried Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth? How simple are the motion controls? My 3 1/2 year old plays games with me once a week, and she's a bit of a Marvel fan.
I imagine I'll get a copy of FE:Fates eventually, but with a backlog of 194 games (including FE for GBA and FE: Awakening), that's a long way off unless there's a good sale.
Nothing for me this week, although I'm glad to see Zero Mission is finally out. In addition to a 206 game backlog, I have a working copy of the game that I could play on a GBA or a Retron 5 on the same tv that is hooked up to my WiiU. Also, to be honest I prefer most of the other 2D Metriods to Zero Mission anyway. Still, more classics on VC is never a bad thing.
I voted Zero Time Dilemma, although I'll be picking that up on Vita. For 3DS, I would have voted for Dragon Quest VII or VIII if they had been in the poll.
@Dark-Link73 - your math is way off. PS+ has given away 259 unique "free" games since it's inception in June 2010. Over the past 12 months, they have given out 63 games (with one more due in April). A full price yearly subscription shakes that out to around $0.78 per game. That doesn't take into account discounted subscriptions (I grabbed an extra year for $29.99 on Black Friday) or the fact that I probably save over $50 a year in discounted games. I don't have the numbers as readily available for discounts, but I made purchases of at least one game on 16 different occasions over the past 12 months, and every one of them had an additional discount thanks to PS+.
Just over $4 a month for a library of over 250 games and counting (many of them playable on multiple devices), discounts, online saves, and PS4 online play is the best deal in gaming. The fact that I'd lose access to the "free" games if my subscription expired is rather pointless, since I can't imagine ever letting my subscription lapse.
I'd love to see Nintendo come out with a similar program, because I've always been a Nintendo guy, but PS+ has spoiled me and the choice between $50 for a single retail Nintendo title or the 60ish game grab bag from Sony is not one Nintendo is ever going to win again...
I'd also like to question why you would think I wouldn't get every free game offered. I paid for access to it, of course I'm going to grab it. The only time I don't get a game for free is if I already bought it. That only happens to me a few times a year. There are a lot of games I've tried and discarded because they're not for me, but just as often I find something I never would have purchased on my own but absolutely fall in love with.
