I had no idea there was an Outlaws Remaster out there. Now I need to get it. Played a lot of this game back in the day (especially the demo) and would love to revisit though don't know if it holds up.
I play on a healthy mix of original, and through switch for the most part, via Switch online and compilations.
I love playing the games on the switch but sometimes it just feels better to bust out my top loader NES (the original doesn't work sadly) and hook it up to my CRT I have set up for retro gaming and play some of the greats. The look is fun and I play the games with the stakes of playing with no rewind feature or save states.
I need to give this game another try. I replayed 1 and 2 when the remasters were released and loved them but when I started 3 and I noticed it looked like they retconned the magic part of the story I was just totally bummed. As a kid playing Shenmue 1 then 2 I was just in wild anticipation when the magic that was hinted at and teased would be shown and then for all that to just go away made me sad.
Now that I have mostly accepted that part of story wont be realized I think I can go in and enjoy it as just a good shenmue game.
I know that this isn't the point of the article, but how the heck is that lady in the red dress running on the beach in stiletto heels and not getting her shoes stuck?
Played many hours of Fun n Games with the SNES Mouse. Decently fun Mario Paint clone replete with music maker, and a pacman like plus some weird space shooter.
My brother has a shirt with the opening monologue on it, and though this is Non-tendo, when I played Astro's Playroom and found the lyrics to the GPU song written on walls all I could think of was the opening to this game.
Sega had some bangers on the dreamcast that I am really hoping this is part of that initiative to start publishing more games again (remembering that commercial at the game awards in 2023).
Used to play Wordtris back in the day. As a Dyslexic with a fear of clowns, a spelling based game with a circus theme was legitimately terrifying. However that and mathblasters were two of the console games that I had not limit on playing since they were educational so I played they heck of that nightmare game.
I really enjoyed team Asobi's speech, both in the recognition to Nintendo and Mario but also how reverently they take making family games. I anticipate Astro's Playroom to be the first gaming memory of my niece with she and I playing together since she was very young and we had a blast waiting for and then playing AstroBot together. Thank you for that experience team Asobi.
P.S. Please Nintendo release the next big 3D Mario game soon. Mario Odyssey is probably my favorite game of all time and am chomping at the bit to play the next entry.
I really wanted to like Shenmue 3 but just couldn't get into it. I did just re-beat Shenmue 1 & 2 before playing it so perhaps I burnt myself out.
I also wasn't a fan of the retconning of 2's ending (trying to dance around it to avoid spoilers). I had been looking forward so for years to see *** introduced into Shenmue's world, but then they just said, nah we are not doing that anymore.
Though I love the setting and atmosphere of the areas in the first Metroid prime, the second one i believe has the superiors= gameplay and exploration, with making the new suits feel really different and their own (the light suit is probably my favorite suit in Metroid history along with with the original fusion suit).
This is one of the few RE games I have yet to play. I bought the RE6 Anthology for the PS3 back in the day which came with 1-5 download codes. I then worked my way through the whole series but by the time I got to RE6 I was burnt out and then given the negative reviews never felt motivated to go back. Perhaps this spooky season this will be a fun game to dive into.
One of the big things for me will be is there a way to play MvC2 without all the characters unlocked.
I know that doesn't make to much sense but I really enjoy unlocking the characters in the shop as I play as it gives me a sense of accomplishment as I play on single player while at the same time not overwhelming me with too many characters right off the bat. I am more likely to try them all as I put them in a team on my next run in single player right after you unlock them. Either way though this is a must buy for me.
I’m having a wonderful time playing dawn of sorrow (though not the best castlevania it is my personal favorite). My one complaint thusfar though is the change to the save room. Super minor but they changed the way the room twinkled with light and it bugs me everytime. But I’ll gladly take it given that we have this amazing collection of castlevania games.
@mariomaster96 I'm in the exact same boat and am really excited to give this a try. I love all the paper mario games (some more than others) and am so pumped to finally play this.
@Sisilly_G agreed. I think it would be really cool function and you could use it to then create a dual screen experience. Granted, pretty dang pricy and potentially complicated dual screen set up but I could see some grabbing a switch lite to do make it happen.
Nintendo life's Nintendo Direct youtube video got me. I didn't want to actually watch the recap without watching the direct so I looked for a couple minutes and when I couldn't find it started the NL video and then realized I had been duped. Well done.
These first the Superb Owl now this. These What we do in the Shadows references are relentless...cause they do not relent. Not complaining mind you, enjoy them more than Creepy Paper.
Love the What We Do in the Shadows reference. Great show (for all those 17 and older or whatever the rating is as the jokes can be quite adult/graphic.
You all picked the three that stand out most to me. The one that falls a little short is OoT, not because of how good that game is (I think it is the best of the bunch actually on its own) but as far as remakes go it had less distance to travel to make it as incredible as it is.
The two metroid games were completely lost to time though. Don't get me wrong I have been the originals on there first native consoles and on virtual console (I'm old), but they weren't at the standard set by Super Metroid. So getting a chance to experience them with all the modern bells and wistles at the time was truly special.
Heart gold is a special case for me as I never played Gen 2 pokemon. So the first time I played Heartgold, it blew my mind, especially that end game moment that I won't spoil. I still treasure that memory despite it being a decade after most experienced it.
There's a ton that I would love them to dip into, more jet set radio, golden axe, shinobi etc. I would also love a Sonic Adventure 3, really enjoyed 1 & 2 and if they made a similar style game I would be pumped (sonic Frontiers was good and Sonic Generations was great). I would go nuts for a continuation of the original Shenmue 1 & 2 story line. Shenmue 3 retconned the magic that was alluded to and about to be seen at the end of 2 and that really bugged the heck out me. Was looking forward to a game that took place in semi modern real world where magic just got unleashed.
I know its technically Super Smash Bros U/3DS, but that Megaman reveal trailer blue my mind (pun intended). but for ultimate I would have to say toss up between Banjo and "Sephiroth!" *sung in the tune of one winged angel.
Charles Martinet also did a wonderful job narrating for the series High Score. I'm really hoping they do another run of episodes for that series (with Martinet narrating of course).
Sad to hear this isn't up to the caliber of the DK DLC for the original Mario + Rabbids. Played Sparks of hope when it first came out and loved it but will wait till the DLC goes on sale. The combination of a reduced price and some added time between playing the base game and the DLC will hopefully make for a rather delightful experience.
@abbyhitter Its tough to say with only playing the demo but I don't think so. I know they are supposed to be in the same universe (super early prequel) but my gut tells me you can play sea of stars first and that will be fine. Just miss out on some nods here and there that will make sense when you play the messenger.
This was a amazingly fun read for me for a couple of reasons. 1) Never heard of this game before until it was talked about last week on IGN’s Nintendo Voice chat (fortuitous timing) and 2) I have recently been attempting to go through every puzzle game listed on GOG to attempt to find a puzzle pc game from the late 90’s early 00’s that my family had and all I remember are 3 of the puzzle modes.
A simple toothpick/matchstick puzzle game where you move or pick up the picks to make shapes in certain number of moves
A puzzle where you have to create an optimal route for a harvest tractor
And a traffic light simulator where you have to program the lights for the amount of traffic.
@-wc- @DanijoEX I agree 100%, and really pumped as 32bit era platformer is probably my favorite game look.
Still pixelated while having a lot to work with on screen. Your Casltevania SotN, Megaman X4-X6, the DS Castlevania games. All are stunning and most incredible fun, the screen doesn't get too busy with excess junk.
@Bobb agreed. Thankfully my brother has a nice 32in CRT in his basement with all of my families SNES games. Love to go there and still play the super scope games. Never tried Yoshi Safari but hope to do so one day.
@DonkeyKongBigBoy Though I would love to go back and try Chaotic, I know its a bad game. However not including the master system versions of these games makes no sense to me. having the extra screen space makes the games way more enjoyable.
Last years Retro bowl was one of my favorite sports game of the last decade. Tecmo Bowl holds a special place in my heart and that game was a perfect ode to it (with the exception of no playing defense, which drove me nuts). May have to give this one a try to though I am not of fond of the games its based off of.
@Serpenterror Thank goodness for the indies. Just hope Capcom sees the light and gives us more than just a new collection of old games (not that I don't love and own all of them and wouldn't be thrilled if they finally did one for megaman legends).
@ryu_san I'm also very pleased with mine. Was still using my day 1 switch so this was a nice upgrade. I also like buying new consoles when possible towards the end of the systems life cycle to hopefully future proof it.
My own made up back story for this guy was he is the young man playing BoTW from the beginning of the switch reveal trailer 7 years ago. Now he is a little older living in a new city, but rediscovering that sense of adventure.
@Claytonbob that dogbone is mighty high on my personal list. I my family had a NES renaissance in the late 90's early 2000's when we got box of games from our cousins so we pulled out the newer top loader NES (not certain that our toaster works anymore) and we beat so many games that were great then a decade after their release and that dogbone prevented out now larger hands from getting hurt but the NES sharp edges.
@Sebazy was hoping someone out there remembered that game. It was a fun time but I never made it very far. I still have my pc disc for that game I should give it another go.
