This bodes very well for both Nintendo and the Switch. Color me impressed. Definitely nice to see them recovering from the Wii U sales fiasco.
If they can get their stock issues settled, and if they push every game released thus far in addition to Super Mario Odyssey, I see the Switch being a monster over the holidays.
Okay, I was born in Utah and visit my extended family there frequently, and we all know the only thing to do with ketchup and mayo is to mix it together and make fry sauce. So can I say...both?
I have Epic Mickey but I sadly never finished it. What I played was fun and I actually liked the atmosphere quite a bit. I just remember though, because my dad played it too, that we both got stuck in the same exact spot and couldn't figure out for the life of us what to do, so we just stopped playing it seems. Might need to revisit this one day.
Living in NA I obviously never owned this version (I have a New XL though) but I definitely think this was the best looking 3DS model. I'm one of those few who actually preferred the smaller (3)DS models, but my original 3DS was falling to pieces and I needed to upgrade. I really wish I could have gotten a regular-sized New 3DS. Oh well.
But now I have the Switch. So I don't think I can ever go back to a 3DS, XL or not. The Switch is just too perfect of a system in its ability to seamlessly transition between console mode and portable mode.
@PAHTK I'm not saying Iwata was the best CEO ever, but I don't think you can really say he brought about the "dark days" of Nintendo. No matter your opinion on motion controls, you can't deny that Iwata helped produce the Wii and the DS, Nintendo's most successful home and handheld consoles, respectively. The 3DS had a rough start but he was able to get that turned around. And while the Wii U flopped pretty hard, it really did have a rather strong first-party library.
Just my personal opinion, but I think that's pretty far from being "dark days".
I feel like I hardly know anything about Mr. Kimishima. That's one thing major I miss from Iwata's presidency; he was so personable with the fan base that I felt like I knew him quite well, making his sudden passing all the more tragic.
That being said, there's no denying that Kimishima took what Iwata started with the Switch and helped lead it to be a resounding success (so far). I wish him the best.
@ProfessorToad Ironically one of the factors that caused the Wii U to flop was overconfidence from the get-go. Nintendo expected it to be a runaway success from day one. Well that obviously didn't happen. So I really don't blame Nintendo for playing it safe with the Switch launch. They'll get it all worked out. I'm sure right now they're working on getting production ramped up for the holiday season.
@joey302 I hear your frustrations but did you somehow miss that about half of the games Nintendo featured at E3 are coming in 2017? ARMS, Splatoon 2, Mario + Rabbids, Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2, Fire Emblem Warriors, FIFA 18, Rocket League and Skyrim are all slated for Switch this year. That's at least one for every month. The Switch is definitely not suffering the same game shortage that the Wii U suffered. The Wii U had two or three first party games at launch + a few third party games, and then the next first party game was Pikmin 3 the following August. That definitely hasn't happened on Switch.
Concerning the topic at hand: not having cloud saves is indeed ridiculous. It makes no sense to not have that feature. Nintendo has corrected a lot of things with Switch that they got wrong for Wii U, but they somehow still can't figure out this fundamental piece of the puzzle. Come on, Nintendo.
Today was a very good day for Nintendo. Exciting updates on games we already knew about (Mario, Xenoblade), equally exciting new reveals (Metroid, core Pokémon RPG), and several fun looking games to fill the gaps (Yoshi, Kirby). Today gave me faith that Nintendo is working really hard to keep the Switch's momentum going. It'll be exciting to see how these games develop over time and I am beyond hyped for Mario Odyssey. Essentially, good show Nintendo. Very good show.
The transition between 3D and the retro, 8-bit 2D sections is pretty cool, as is the music change. Definitely a cool new feature but I'm still trying to process the whole possessing mechanic with Cappy...
This game looks amazing. Seriously. The four-year break in the mainline Mario series has really paid off. And October 27? That's a lot sooner than I was expecting.
THANK YOU Nintendo for this incredible looking Mario game!!
@iescalie1 I sadly doubt a 3D World port will be announced for Switch. Especially with Mario Odyssey being the next big thing for 3D Mario games. I don't think Nintendo will want to detract from that.
That reveal trailer was one of the funniest things I've watched in quite some time. I'd buy this game just for the sheer hilarity of it. And these screenshots look gorgeous.
I think that's the neat thing about the Switch being a hybrid console. It's both a home console and a handheld. One thing I've noticed is that neither EA or Bethesda have said that the Switch is incapable. They've stated that it's not on the same level as PS4 and Xbox One, which is true, but they are praising it as the most powerful handheld gaming console. I honestly think it's smart for them to push that angle and I don't think it will interfere with Nintendo's marketing. Not to mention both of these ports seem to have a good amount of effort put into them; not sure about Skyrim, but EA confirmed that FIFA 18 hits 1080p60 docked and 720p60 undocked. That's honestly better than what I was expecting.
To be succinct: If third parties want to take the "powerful portable" approach, let them do it. It's not an incorrect fact. And third party support is third party support.
Trying not to look too much into it but I can always hope for streaming services.
I understand when Nintendo says that the Switch is a video game machine first and foremost, but I can't deny that I utilized Netflix and Amazon Instant Video on the Wii U rather frequently.
Don't really appreciate the "it's portable FIFA" as a justification for this clearly watered down port, but it does seem like they've put some degree of effort in. I can also appreciate that it hits 1080p60 docked and 720p60 portable, despite the constant bleating from third parties that the Switch isn't capable. Makes it seem like EA wasn't as lazy with the port as we initially thought.
Probably won't buy it because I've never been overly interested in EA's sports games but I can appreciate what appears to be a good amount of effort.
Definitely trying to keep my expectations low (can't deny the hype is real though), but here's my wishlist: -Super Mario Odyssey: Primarily, a RELEASE DATE, and maybe a Switch bundle. -Pikmin 4. -Luigi's Mansion 3 by Next Level Games (LOVED Dark Moon from them). -Smash, whether it's a port/HD remake/new entry...Smash. -A new IP. -Return of an old IP? -No more than one Wii U port.
@mystman12 Well, they've listened to some things. Back in January when they first announced the service, the free NES/SNES games would only be available to you for a month. They've changed that now; you can now keep the games as long as your subscribed to the service. So they are indeed listening to feedback.
I was always wary about having to pay to play Switch games online, but $20 a year is a screaming deal. I also do appreciate the delayed start of the paid subscription, means free online longer.
I haven't played too much MK8D online, since most of my video game time is consumed with BOTW, but from what I have played I've noticed much less lag when compared to MK8 on Wii U.
Still though, $20. Very nice price for a yearly subscription.
Definitely keeping my expectations low (looks back to E3 2015 when the hype got the best of me...) but I do have to admit I'm excited. Mario Odyssey definitely has me intrigued and I'm looking forward to seeing more of it. I'm also just excited to see what new games Nintendo announces.
I am pleased, however, that Switch is the focus. Unlike the past few E3's (excluding 2016), where it was 10-15 3DS games versus 2-4 Wii U games. Nintendo needs to keep the Switch hype train going. They've been doing pretty good so far.
My one, hopefully not unjustified hope that they have something big under wraps for Switch that they'll surprise us with.
That being said, despite not being surprising, it's good to see these headlines. I'm excited to see how the Switch sales are boosted once this comes out.
I've never been that interested in the Monster Hunter series, but I can't deny that this is very, very good news for both Nintendo and the Switch. MH sells like crazy in Japan so this is pretty much a guaranteed success over there. Here's to hoping Nintendo can catch up with the demand! It'll be interesting to see how many units are shifted when this is released.
Not surprised, Nintendo is generally very good at compression. Super Mario 3D World was less than 2 GB on Wii U and it was one of the console's best games.
I'd honestly prefer a brand new Smash game over a Smash 4 port. I have a feeling that some mention of Smash will happen at E3; I honestly just hope it's a new iteration.
@wizzgamer The Switch is the Wii U's successor, not the 3DS's. Nintendo markets the Switch as a "home console you can take with you on the go"...hence it's the Wii U's successor. Currently Nintendo is insisting on keeping the 3DS alive and they act as if the Wii U never existed. Not to mention, two of the three first party games currently on Switch are also Wii U games. I think that's a pretty clear indicator as to which console the Switch is replacing...
Oh the bundle is an incredibly smart move. I just hope it's not too expensive. If it's the same price as the console on its own (unlikely but one can hope), then it'll be flying off shelves, especially in Japan. Either way, smart move, Nintendo.
E3 really needs to focus on the Switch. I know the Switch started off strong but we need to know some of Nintendo's long term plans for the system. We only know up to Mario Odyssey in November/December. I'm not saying ignore the 3DS entirely, but it shouldn't be their main focus at all.
I don't know. I don't really have a problem with the New 2DS being announced, I just feel like the timing was really weird, being right in the middle of the Switch's honeymoon period.
Not surprised but honestly, I much prefer the pre-recorded Directs/Digital Events for E3. It worked for them in 2013 and especially 2014. 2015...not so much. In either case, there's definitely gonna be some sort of digital presentation this year, and those are usually sleek and really well produced. I'm not worried.
@Sean161 My friend, a video game console is much different than a plant. You already play the game on the screen; it's more convenient to just have the instruction manual be digital. I don't think Nintendo will bring paper instruction manuals back.
@Sean161 My friend, in a world where everything is digitized, I don't think Nintendo will bring paper manuals back. They stopped using them with 3DS and Wii U.
@Yasume Or possibly because there's a ton of people that haven't played the Wii U version? I'm not sure where you've been looking but a ton of the comments I've seen about this game have led with "I've never played the Wii U version..."
Does it have new courses though? I'm glad it has a revamped battle mode. I truly am. But unless it has new Grand Prix races, I don't think I'll be double-dipping because I spend most of my time with Mario Kart playing Grand Prix/VS races.
I'm actually kinda disappointed this isn't a launch title. I'm relieved Zelda is...it's about time they get that game out. But this...this needed to be there too. Now I need to think really hard about whether I want to buy the console or wait. Because I seriously feel that my decision hinged on Mario.
@MortalKombat2007 They did. At the very end of the video. "Game footage not final; graphics and footage subject to change." Not false advertising at all.
Makes sense. With Pokemon coming out next month, they need to be pushing the that and the 3DS for the holiday season. Then once January hits, I'm sure we'll get a full-blown Nintendo Direct revealing everything, from specs, to games, to the launch date, to the price, specifics on how the hardware works, etc.
Kinda sucks that we're going to be in the dark once again but at least we know this thing exists and we know what it looks like now. So I can be patient.
Nintendo absolutely nailed it with the reveal. They communicated exactly what the Switch is supposed to be without vocally saying any words. I'm sold on the concept and can't wait to learn more.
I really want the Switch but there are two factors holding be back from saying "yes, I will definitely buy one": 1) price and 2) games available at launch.
But color me intrigued. I can't wait to learn more!
I'm one of those bizarre people that actually liked Sticker Star. I found it enjoyable. Overall a decent game. Yes it had its shortcomings and it was completely infuriating at times but that didn't detract from the overall experience for me.
So as such, I'm looking forward to Color Splash. As others have pointed out, it does appear to have more personality than Sticker Star did. Like some other commenters have said, I am remaining cautiously optimistic.
I'm excited. Nintendo needs some positive news at the moment considering they're REFUSING to divulge NX info. I'm an iOS user so I'm looking forward to it. It's a shame the other apps were delayed but in the long run I think it's a good move. I don't think it screams "NINTENDO IS DOOMED" or "CONSOLE GAMING IS DEAD" like some of the comments on the other article were suggesting. I see it as more money for Nintendo, something positive for once and, if utilized well, positive advertisement for the NX when the time comes.
This is a right shame honestly. I own the Wii U edition so while I was watching this announcement, I just kept thinking what a shame that both this AND Mario Maker are getting ported over to 3DS.
This whole Nintendo Direct in general was kind of meh. The only thing that really grabbed my attention was the new Pikmin game, which was intriguing but also made me worried that this is the Pikmin 4 game Miyamoto was referring to, meaning no Pikmin game during the NX's launch window.
@MarcelRguez Exactly. And if Sonic is also coming to PS4 and XONE...it makes me think that the NX has to be somewhat competitive from a hardware standpoint. And that points more to home console. But who knows. Enough fluffy PR talk and contradicting rumors and reveal the thing please, Nintendo.
@MarcelRguez That's what I'm hoping. I really want the NX to foremost be a home console with a handheld component, rather than a handheld with a console component, like these "certain" reports indicate.
It has to be a home console. I can't see Breath of the Wild being a handheld game at all on the NX.

So as such, I'm looking forward to Color Splash. As others have pointed out, it does appear to have more personality than Sticker Star did. Like some other commenters have said, I am remaining cautiously optimistic.
Re: Poll: Share Your Thoughts on Super Mario Run and the Delays to Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem on Mobile
Re: Yoshi's Woolly World Will Soften Up Your 3DS In 2017, Poochy amiibo Also Incoming
Re: Nvidia Formally Ditches SHIELD Tablet Successor, Reinforcing NX Reports
@MarcelRguez Exactly. And if Sonic is also coming to PS4 and XONE...it makes me think that the NX has to be somewhat competitive from a hardware standpoint. And that points more to home console. But who knows. Enough fluffy PR talk and contradicting rumors and reveal the thing please, Nintendo.
Re: Nvidia Formally Ditches SHIELD Tablet Successor, Reinforcing NX Reports
@MarcelRguez That's what I'm hoping. I really want the NX to foremost be a home console with a handheld component, rather than a handheld with a console component, like these "certain" reports indicate.
It has to be a home console. I can't see Breath of the Wild being a handheld game at all on the NX.
