Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will make its way to the Nintendo Switch sometime in April in North America and specifically on 28th April in Europe.
Here's some info from the official PR:
With Nintendo Switch, fans can enjoy the definitive version of Mario Kart 8 anywhere, anytime, even with up to 8 friends in local wireless multiplayer. All your favourite tracks and characters return from the Wii U version, plus all DLC tracks and characters, and new characters join the roster, too: Inkling Boy and Inkling Girl from Splatoon, King Boo, Dry Bones, and Bowser Jr.! Plus, battle Mode has been revamped and includes Balloon Battle and Bob-omb Blast, with all-new courses such as Urchin Underpass and Battle Stadium, and returning ones like (GCN) Luigi's Mansion and (SNES) Battle Course 1. Players can now carry two items at a time, including new items returning from previous Mario Kart games such as Boo, the item-stealing ghost, and the Feather, which gives you a high jump in battle mode. Players can even choose to use a new Smart Steering feature which makes driving and staying on the track easy for novice players and kids, even at 200cc. Play in TV mode in up to 1080p.

This really should have been in the presentation.
Still, is Switch launching with only one game?
I just saw this on Nintendo's youtube channel. I can't believe they left this out of the presentation. Did they forget or something?
Yeah. I want it. I even want it to have DLC so I can throw more money at Mario kart 8.
@Ralizah Sonic Mania should have been there too. Confirming these online is weird.
Why in the name of hell was this not in the presentation?
this looks great, but I'm worried that they are pinning the whole launch on zelda
"Play in TV mode up to 1080p" ? Guess that confirms the switch screen is 720p. I can live with that, its small enough that it wont get pixelated.
Well looks lke I will be waiting until April then to get the system.
This really should've been a launch game and I can't help but feel they're intentionally delaying this just to boost Zelda's sales.
@Ralizah agreed. Where was this on the presentation?
Whatever day 1 buy
I saw it on the site and thought maybe I fell asleep during its presentation. Not sure why it wasn't included in the presentation. Mario Kart is a huge game and a deluxe version with enough new content to warrant double dipping is worth showcasing
This is so cute, I love inklings!
OMG...!
The logo is so colorful. Suteki da na !
So far looks great.
Wanna see all new Characters, Tracks and Items.
So I guess we are getting a Nintendo direct next month to show more launch games.
Good. Folks can shut up about the battle mode now.
I am a little Meh since this feels like it should be DLC but it is MK8 on the go....yeah I'll get it.
Well, this means my most-recent portable Mario Kart game won't be Mario Kart 7 anymore.
Freedom of single-player VS mode on the go, come to me!
perfect fit, hope to see them in smash for wii u deluxe too, or whatever it will be called. throw in some F Zero racers please!!
Back to the glory days of N64 battlemode. Fantastic.
Wonder if there will be a Wii U update?
I'd love to know what's actually coming out at launch, it seems to just be Zelda and that weird party game they showed at the start.
I wonder if it's native 1080p or upscaled.
@Ootfan98 Amen, brother!! My cousin and I STILL play Super Mario Kart's Battle Area 1 arena!!
Inklings! King Boo! They might be enough for me to double dip at a discounted price. Or maybe I should get it right away to tell Nintendo not to abandon the Splatoon IP as a one-hit wonder.
@ollyander To be fair, if you're pinning the whole launch on 1 game, Zelda is the one that makes up for it.
You know the Switch presentation was good when they had to cut out the trailer of a remastered/"deluxed" port of one of the biggest selling titles on Wii U.
Does it have new courses though? I'm glad it has a revamped battle mode. I truly am. But unless it has new Grand Prix races, I don't think I'll be double-dipping because I spend most of my time with Mario Kart playing Grand Prix/VS races.
Yeah, I'll double dip on that.
Make sure you do a story on all the accessories! http://www.nintendo.com/switch/buy-now/
So no new race courses whatsoever? Kinda bummed out about that tbh but yay for Bowser jr.!
Yes!!!!! Why was this not in the presentation?!?!
As a no Wii U owner, i need this! Wish it was launch title, but I don't want to complain lol XD Hmmm with Mario this is goingto be title I want to pick after I get the console. I'm still unsure about Zelda, definitely not my favorite game (don't hate me, please).
@Ralizah Agreed.
So far the confirmed launch titles are 1,2 Switch, Zelda Breath of the Wild, and Just Dance 2017.
@Yoshis_VGM That is a good point. I think the inkling stage from the video is a battle stage... probably more coming with DLC.
SOOO READY!
Bowser Jr!
@Ralizah Launch line-ups vary from territory to territory. While they should have announced more, they're likely to say more in the Treehouse presentations.
In other news, Sonic Mania has been confirmed for Switch.
Sounds really good. I don't think I'll buy it though.
@OzHuski The Switch website confirms it: screen resolution 1280 x 720
Nice to see Bowser Jr. finally come, I like him more than the koopalings.
YES!!! Can't wait!
In the meanwhile, I'll continue on MK8 on the Wii U!
Sure it will be great for new Switch owners and those who didn't get it on the WiiU but I rather spend my money on something new rather the same game I'd been playing for the last few years.
Come to think of it how much do games cost?
If it is greatly reduced like Sony did with The Last of Us then "maybe" but if it is full price I consider that exploitation of my person.
@Ralizah at least 2. 1, 2, Switch and BotW
Zelda in early March, Mario Kart 8 in late April, Splatoon in "Summer"... A high-profile release each month, more or less, would be a good pace; not too fast but not too slow either...
My dreams have come true, Inklings in Mario Kart!
Who else saw GCN Luigi's Mansion in there as a battle track. Also, right now there are four confirmed new characters of course, Dry Bones, Bowser Jr, King Boo and the Inkling, since they are most likely to add a column of new characters, I wouldn't be surprised if Birdo and Diddy Kong are announced down the line.
Video removed, reuploaded without launch date of April 28th
Games guide online still says April 28th. $60.
@Sanicranfast 1, 2, Switch seems more like gimmickware included at launch, though, like that AR balloon face game on 3DS.
Hey, looks pretty great!
No new tracks apparently. So Wii U owners basically got an unfinished version of the game for full price.
Looks good but not as appealing if you already bought it and the DLC, and you'll have to pay for online.
For the local multiplayer do I need 4 Switches to play it or can I do split screen on the tv?
@Tasuki Japanese website says 1-4 players on the TV.
Definitely getting this.
@Ralizah As well as Super Bomberman R
@Grumblevolcano Me too.
For anyone in the USA, Best Buy just opened up preorders on both the grey and the neon blue and red Switch consoles. Just an FYI.

Yes I'll buy this again just for Dry Bones Koopa, really love that fella in Mario Kart DS.
"Race your friends in the definitive version of Mario Kart 8, only on Nintendo Switch!" FYI no Wii U update confirmed. Even Nintendo calls it definitive. lol
New and returning characters(including inklings) are cool and all and the new Battle Mode fixes the biggest problem with MK 8, but I'm much more of a racer anyway and I don't see any new race tracks in the trailer. I hope they exist and just haven't been revealed yet. I don't think I can justify double dipping just to race as an Inkling...
@Paddle1 Ok that's good to know, thanks for the info.
They might release a wheel accessory where the joy con can connect to either side.
@gb_nes_gamer There is a wheel accessory. In Japan. https://www.nintendo.co.jp/switch/aabpa/index.html
Why did they bring back the Cape Feather from Super Mario Kart of all things?
@gb_nes_gamer They are. $15.99 for 2 wheels.
Can Wii U players and Switch somehow play online together? It doesn't matter what was in or out of the presentation. It's not E3. It's meaningless.
@Paddle1 that's really cool. because of the shape and size I wouldn't have thought they would fit in the middle, like the wii remotes did.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy That's a good price for two. I'll keep an eye on the UK sites for prices. I'm looking at GAME and official Nintendo.
@ollyander I know where you are coming from. They are putting a lot of stock in Zelda, and as great as it looks, everyone is not a fantasy fan. Mario Kart being left out was really dumb considering it seems to be fixing the battle mode.
I don't know. The marketing department still needs help. It's like they didn't do a good enough job with Wii U differentiating it from the Wii, and they decided taat this time they'd try to focus on that.
As for the games, it was very Japan oriented, and that is fine. I completely get it. I wish the respective regions would have been allowed to do their own thing after the initial presentation of the hardware.
@KidRad Not a massive upgrade. Battle Mode should be great especially if they take it online.
i too hope for new tracks besides the DLC. I have them already.
I would have loved this when I was younger. 4 player local Mario Kart 64 was epic. 8 player would have been even better! Shame I don't have any friends into games or Nintendo anymore 😔
Great! I'll buy this when it goes on sale!
I wonder if Mario Kart 9 will really happens.
The new courses makes this tempting, but it won't tempt me to get a Switch since I already have the Wii U version. If I had a Switch, then I'd definitely pick this game up at a discounted price.
Anybody remember that Tweet from Nintendo last year. Here's the link.
https://mobile.twitter.com/NintendoEurope/status/738777797125144576/photo/1
This should have been in the presentation. Although given Splatoon's popularity in Japan, I understand why that game was highlighted.
At first i wasn't sure I wanted to buy MK8 again.but the inklings sold me.
If there's not a bunch of new tracks then this version, as beautiful as it is, can wait.
I didnt mind it not being in the presentation. Only the fans watched it this morning the average consumer did not. We are the marketing you guys, look at everybody talking, its all over the news know. Nintendo is just pulling a 'Beyoncé' and hopes this goes mouth to mouth. We know now that mario kart 8 is coming in april and the whole fact that it was not in presentation already generates buzz only for that game.
I did expect more 3rd party games from western developers to be shown but maybe with a presentation that is more western oriented then this one. Besides that im still excited especially after Zelda. I did told myself that no matter how good the switch looked i can only buy it after finishing certain 3ds games i still play and some replay now, after selling and rebuying them.
It looks great, but the Inklings aren't a must for me - I think I'll stick with my Wii U copy, specially since I paid for the DLC and I don't want to lose that money.
Now, if SSBB comes in the same way, I'll get it since I haven't spend a dime on that DLC, thanks to my backlog.
Im going to get it, the MK series if my favourite series. But i really want some new cups and tracks. since there isnt a new MK game in sight
I hope they provide a huge discount for those who already own the Wii U version, because I really don't want to spend another $60 or so on what is mostly the same game.
Damn... I feel I need this game even though I already have Mario Kart 8 on Wii U...
So it's a port of a Wii u game... I don't know if this week sell systems or not
Still hoping for some kind of "customer loyalty" bonus for Wii U owners to upgrade to switch ports cheaper. This all sounds AMAZING but I already paid for most of it on the defunct Wii U. Can I pay like $20-30 to upgarde? huh? please??
I don't buy ports usually but Mario Kart 8 was my favorite game on the Wii U and the additions might make it worth it for me.
Here's hoping for more exclusive content.more is great, especially a battle mode but I need more than better resolution to double dip. Strange announcement also!?! Did diddy Kong get mentioned of is that still a mystery??
Well...I'll buy again!
Would really hope for some new standard racing courses, even if retro tracks - Bowser's Castle N64 and Banshee Boardwalk please!
Played it on Wii u, bought the dlc, loved it all, won't buy it again (unless there are a lot of new tracks).
I rather spend my coins on new games.
@Ralizah 4 games so far, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Bomberman R, 1-2-Switch, and Skylanders Imaginators
Haven't read all the comments to see if this was corrected, but I do remember this being in the presentation. It was sandwiched into a string of trailers and wasn't talked up independently, but I'm certain I watched it during broadcast.
...But for the game itself, can we get aaaany of these updates to MK8 vanilla? I'm not sure what position I'mma be in to get a Switch soon, but gotta get me some OG Splatoon love on the system from whence it arose.
@Spanjard
yes I do think the system will be worth buying for Zelda alone. not sure how many other people feel that way though.
No Diddy Kong, no buy.
