A new Yoshi game has been announced for the Nintendo Switch, taking the familiar style of Yoshi's Woolly World. The new action-platformer sees Yoshi explore a "great big world decorated like a miniature diorama, look for items throughout the stages and team up with a friend in a new art style for the franchise". The game is currently titled Yoshi for Nintendo Switch and is scheduled for release in 2018.

This game looks beautiful... Especially those coins. Can't wait.
Doesn't look that interesting or different to me. But I loved the first Woolly World (enough to buy it on 3DS so I wouldn't have to play on WiiU anymore) so day one!
This seems like a delightful cross between Woolly World and Yoshi's Story. I'm excited to try it.
HRRRRRRRRRMMMMMM
Super Yarn Paper Yoshi. Can not wait!
I get a Paper Mario vibe which is cool. I am open to give it a try.
I am way too excited about this.
Wooly World really surprised me in that it was a really solid game.
I hope this one will do it as well, as it looked pretty boring and lifeless. But at least it didn't look bad per se ^^
Love Yoshi games. I wish they would incorporate the level structure like Yoshi Story. Really adds a lot of depth to a 2D platformera. I liked the idea of no set finish line for the levels.
Was not expecting this announcement! Certainly looks interesting! Excited to give it a try!
Looks great. I'm very excited for a new Yoshi game.
Not sure what it is, but it didn't impress me at all. Think I was just disappointed that there was another 2D platformer announcement. Let's be real though, defo will be getting it
Looks cool and sort of like Super Paper Mario so I'm interested.
All I could think about was LittleBigPlanet...
Not that that's a bad thing!
They didn't spend any of the spotlight with an employee in a cardboard store.
I love it! It's everything I thought wooly world would be.
Another Yoshi game is always a welcomed surprise
Super
PaperYarn Yoshi. Coming out 2018.I hope this time nothing will hinder me to play this game. Without nostalgia the last yoshi was the best one. Will be hard to top it but im sure they can.
Even that song. This is the power of chill and innocence. Cant wait to enjoy.
Look how shiny those coins are!
I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW YOU HAVE NO IDEA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH THANK YOU NINTENDO <3
Still the same guys that did yarn and wool?
They are getting impressive
Awesome, I like that they kept the yarn theme from the previous game.
I say meh.
But then again I said meh to wooly world and then played the demo and really enjoyed it. So maybe i should stop saying meh?
Nothing has touched Yoshi's Island, but nothing has been as bad as Yoshi's story either. So if this is on part with New Island or Wooly World it is at least worth playing.
@Ralizah Still not seeing that "multiplayer focus" here. Which I'm quite glad about. Looks great. 2.5D cardboard Yoshi. Paper Mario, eat your heart out.
I loved Yoshi's Wooly World on the Wii U but haven't played through the one on 3DS yet. I can't to see more of what this game will be.
The way that Yoshi can now interact with the foreground and background reminded me of Klonoa, which made me really happy.
The aesthetic looks great, even better than Woolly World if that's possible. I loved that game. Nice surprise.
My fave character ! Never played wooly world though. Looking forward to this game !
Looks charming and fun . Another great game announcement
My E3 highlight! Until they showed Metroid for 3DS...
@NEStalgia Maybe not. Makes me wonder how certain things (like that one Yoshi pushing the other around on a cart) will work in single player.
I like that there's a genuine "2.5D" aspect to the gameplay. It's a really underused concept.
Yoshi ! (Yoshi SFX)
This is Nintendo's LittleBigPlanet, right? Phew - Switch was down to its last 107 2D platformers... Actually, that's not a complaint. Bring 'em on.
I enjoyed Poochy and Yoshi's Wooly World and I'm more than excited to pick up this one as well.
@Ralizah Is that really "player 2" or just an AI Yoshi helping? Otherwise I suppose it could be AI/Poochy helpers, or something like LBP where some bonus areas can only be accessed if you have multiple players but otherwise you can skip them if you're not going fro 100%
@WaveBoy Kirby as a 3d first person game would be absolutely horrifying. Think about it for just a minute. You inhale enemies, and then transform. It makes Resident Evil seem harmless.
@WaveBoy I'm actually more excited about Kirby than Yoshi. The pink puffball has always been one of my favorite Nintendo series and I've been hoping for his return to the multiplayer platformer last seen in Wii's Return to Dreamland due to Switch's 'play with friends anywhere and anywhe' feature
Didn't expect this. Was a real supprise
@WaveBoy I can see your points and definitely think there's room for improvement in that regard (especially that installments felt too similar to each other. Kirby has always enjoyed a fair share of spin-offs in-between 2D platformers so I only really started to notice stagnation on 3DS when they've got quite a bit too ... asset-reusin: Minigames are turned into their own games, way too many releases (I know it's Kirby's anniversary but still)).
Anyhow, Sakurai created Kirby with simple and easy game design in mind where even unexperienced gamers could play the game. That's why Kirby does what he does and what he is today. Though a difficulty setting wouldn't heard, right?
In regards to this new Kirby game, the only noticable change that almost immediately sprung to mind was the combination of Abilities (Hammer on Fire, Rock on Ice), though, the gameplay impact of this change doesn't appear too big.
Extremely excited for both Kirby and Yoshi. These two games will make me buy a Switch!
This is the first Nintendo game to use Unreal 4, i believe.
This was my only letdown. Woolly World, having delighted me at first, has bored me.. And there's not anything different...
This looks oddly charmless.
I absolutely loved Yoshi's Woolly World. It's easily one of Wii U's best games. This game though, there's something about it that I can't quite put my finger on, but I'm not feeling it. It's made using Unreal Engine 4. And that could be it, it feels soulless. I often get that feeling when watching games made from that engine. It's early days, so it could improve and nail that Yoshi charm. YWW's visual style is so much warmer and inviting than this. I guess you applaud them for trying a different visual style.
Loving this. Nice use of the Unreal Engine there. Still blows me away seeing Nintendo embrace external engines like that.
I love how it looks, Wooly World was a wonderful game for the Wii U. Its interesting to see how it is developed in Unreal Engine, maybe it has helped to speed up game development.
Paper little wooly big Yoshi planet, from the looks of it. Didn't impress me much and I hoped Good Feel would make something else, but we'll see.
@Luna_110,
Must be the first time Nintendo (or in this case a second party on a Nintendo device) used Unreal.
Looks great! Love the new art styles. My wife and I had fun playing through Woolly World, will have to pick this up eventually.
@NEStalgia Judging from this treehouse footage, it's 2P, and that second level looked like it was designed primarily for coop. Also, ground pound switching is apparently exclusive to coop?
@Ralizah I still can't tell if it's MANDATORY 2 player, or just supports 2 player well. I mean Wooly World and LBP support 2 (or more in LBP) players but is perfectly playable 1 player (if not better.)
The early play they showed was one player. Only Kendra was playing and there was only Green yoshi on the screen. Rewind a bit to the earlier part (I'm looking at it now.)
