I love how confident Nintendo is though. I rarely see a company so confident in their system and despite the sluggish sales of their console, they still manage to see the bright side and ultimately post a profit.
I don't see the Wii U selling 9,000,000 consoles this year. I think that's a little ambitious. But, you never know, it might happen.
Most definitely not on my wishlist. CoD is free to burn into nothingness for all I care, but at least it is coming to Wii U. The more 3rd party games the better. And I know that there are some Wii U owners out there looking for a FPS game so I guess as long as CoD is on the console they're good.
Definitely way more hyped for Mario Kart 8 but if this was released on the eShop as well to set me off until MK8 arrives, it would be much appreciated, even if the upcoming game is much superior.
@DarkCoolEdge That number is only for 2 days, and 100,000 games sold in 2 days is pretty damn good. Those numbers you posted are for the first week of release. The number found here in this article is only after 2 days of being on the market. The number will be higher next week.
I was actually just about to Pik(min) up my preorder for this game on Amazon. Nice review! I never got around to playing Pikmin 1 or 2, so I'm excited to play this game!! Looking forward to August 5/6, or whenever my copy arrives!
Yippeee!! This is fantastic news!!! I can't wait to see what happens in Europe on the 26th and I ESPECIALLY can't wait to see how this boosts the console's sales here in America on August 4th. This just goes to show that first party games REALLY help!!!
Even though I never had the chance to play the Famicom/NES, I wish it a very happy anniversary! And that extends to Luigi, too! 2013 is a good year for Nintendo.
I'm not sure how much Pikmin 3 will help the sales. It will probably boost them somewhat, it's a pretty highly anticipated first party game. But, it is pretty obvious that it will be Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 that make the Wii U take off, especially MK8.
I sniff Iwata hate. The fact that Iwata got a 77 while everyone else got a 90 or higher? That's obviously hate right there. Iwata can turn this around, just wait until next year...
This is one of the reasons why I love Iwata as a CEO. The way he stares into everyone's displeased faces and puts them down in a very simple, stern (yet kind) way is very inspiring. The way he says he refuses to layoff workers, the way he told off the idiot who reminded him he would resign if the Wii U continued to have sluggish sales by saying, "I don't recall saying I'd resign," the way he imposed a 50% pay-cut ON HIMSELF when the 3DS was struggling so that his staff can keep getting paid the same amount. THIS is what a good leader does. We need more leaders like this, a leader that takes sacrifices and stands in the face of hate and cares about his staff and his gamers. This is what a good leader is.
As long as it's early April, because my b-day is in mid-April. This would be a totally epic birthday present!
I am really excited for this game, moreso than 3D World, and I'm pretty excited for that game too. I'm a huge sucker for Mario Kart so I can't wait to play this!
I'm so glad Nintendo is getting all of these indie developers on board with the Wii U. It feels weird though, reading all these things about Indie developers praising the Wii U and how easy it is to develop on it. I'm just so used to hearing the 3rd parties turning their backs on it.
This is what I tell everyone. They'll say something like, "Eww, you have Wii U!? Wii U sucks!" In response, I'll say: "Have you ever touched a Wii U before in your life?" Believe it or not, all of them said no. If they were my friends, I'd invite them over to my house, and soon after, their view of the Wii U had changed...drastically. I agree with everyone else, you can't really "get" the whole point of the Wii U without actually trying it out.
I always go retail. I don't know, I just feel more confident having the physical copy. I mean, I'm quite sure Nintendo would transfer my purchases if my Wii U suddenly dies, but there's always the chance they might not, and I don't want to have to purchase the game again.
200 is MUCH better. I feel I can express myself better with 200 rather than with 100. Now if only they would remove the 100 friend limit....you can't limit how many friends I can have, Nintendo!! (not that I have 100 friends on my Wii U, I want to be friends w/ Gamexplain and he's all maxed out)
The way he worded it sounded much nicer than the way EA worded it.
Activision, I may not be a Call of Duty player, but I appreciate the kind words you have towards Nintendo. We're all hoping the Wii U will be successful too. Thanks for all the current support you gave and hopefully you'll give us more in the future.
I honestly don't care about the Wii U's region lock...I mean, it's not like I'm going to go to Japan just to buy a Wii U game. If anything, drop region locking for the 3DS, after all, and if I go on vacation to another country there's a greater chance I'm going to bring my 3DS, not my Wii U.
It's nice that they're not writing the Wii U off, but it's still frustrating that they go from "fully supporting Wii U" like they were back in 2011 to "Oh yeah about that...we're not making any games right now haha." I'm not very happy with EA, and I could honestly care less about them.
Nintendo was pretty on top of it. Like everyone else, this isn't the end...the company can easily update it. Hopefully Nintendo will continue to listen to the warnings of their consumers and continue to update the 3DS to keep the DS flashcard disaster from happening again.
Everyone remember though, that was the Super Mario 3D World demo, so that glitch will most likely be fixed in the final product. Unless you expect the game to only have 5 levels, as was clearly shown on the starting screen.
PS: Did anyone else try to listen for the underground music? I was trying to see if it was new (I really don't want this game's music to go the NSMBU route...only some new and most recycled). I just hope that for the sake of Nintendo's music reputation that it's new.
I will be ecstatic if it is a new 3D Mario. I'm still looking forward to Super Mario 3D World and I have no doubt that it will be great, but a fresh 3D Mario is always welcome too.
And here's a question: Why in the world does everyone want Galaxy 3?!? Two Galaxy games is enough, I have a feeling that a Galaxy 3 would be more unoriginal than 3D World (I'm not saying 3D World is unoriginal, there are plenty of new additions, but it's still a sequel so it's not as original as it could've been). It just baffles me. I would rather have something completely new.
Anyway, interesting...I wonder how soon "soon" is.
Just as long as we don't see those horrible cube commercials again...I mean, it's an interesting concept, and I really liked how the big U lit up the screen at the end of each commercial, but the ads were just so poorly done. As long as we get better commercials, I'll be happy.
Like Reggie, I'm pretty confident that the Wii U will make a U-turn (geddit?). The lineup for the second half of 2013 is strong and full of first-party titles, along with several 3rd party games (Rayman Legends, Watch_Dogs, Just Dance, possibly CoD). The Wii U will sell pretty well during the holiday season. Nintendo is speculating to sell 9 million units...I'm not sure how realistic that is, but I'm gonna say that they'll sell AT LEAST 7.5 million, maybe 8. By the time Mario Kart 8 comes out, the Wii U will be flying off the shelves like hotcakes. Mario Kart does tend to do that. And by the time we get SSB4 and the brand new Zelda, the Wii U will be flat sold-out. I think Nintendo did really good at this E3. They definitely didn't blow the competition out of the water, but they made their presence clear and I see a strong Wii U revival in the near future.
Pachter is free to stick that fork in his eye. I don't really give a damn about what he says. He "claims" he's a Nintendo fan but he obviously isn't. He clearly didn't watch E3 closely enough, Nintendo made a HUGE comeback by announcing a ton of first party games.
And besides, no one buys Nintendo consoles for the 3rd party support anyways (sorry if you are one of the few people that do do this)! Most people buy Nintendo consoles because they 1) Offer an experience not available anywhere else, 2) Have an expansive library of top-notch 1st party games, and 3) All Nintendo consoles offer that core Nintendo experience.
We must remember though, Super Mario 3D Land sold more than Mario Kart 7 did on the 3DS. But I agree, Nintendo is missing a pretty big opportunity by not releasing Mario Kart 8 in the holiday season. But I think it's also a good thing that it's being released in the Spring...that way we won't have another game drought for the 1st half of the year. Most of the 2014 releases are just slated for 2014, and that's that. They could come in the Spring. They could come in the Summer, Fall, or Winter, we just don't know. Knowing that Mario Kart 8 is specifically coming in the Spring means that we won't have a massive game drought. I still think it will sell a lot of consoles, no matter when it will be released. Mario Kart has ALWAYS been a system seller, and Mario Kart 8 looks very promising...I don't see why this game would stop this trend of Mario Kart being a big seller.
This is why I love Nintendo. They don't care that their console isn't a super-expensive powerhouse, all they care about is that their console is providing an experience not available anywhere else. I love how dedicated they are to making their games. After watching the E3 videos, you can see how dedicated Miyamoto is to Pikmin 3, and you can see how dedicated Hideki Kono is to Mario Kart 8, and you can see how dedicated Koichi Hayashida is to Super Mario 3D World. They simply don't care about the competition. They only care about their fans and pleasing them by making fantastic games. That's why Nintendo is a fantastic company.
My favorite part was this: "We're a rational company."
Did anybody else burst out laughing at that?
EA, do you remember that time, back in E3 2011, when you said that you would fully support the Wii U, and then do you remember back to earlier this year, when you completely turned your backs on the Wii U and marched away? Yeah, that was so rational.
If they took the GamePad away, enhanced the power of the system, and simply made the Wiimotes the controller...do you know how much confusion that would cause? That would literally make the Wii U a Wii HD. People will most likely look at the box and say, "Oh, look, it's an HD Wii! But I already have a Wii, so why should I upgrade?" See where the problem is? I think it's about Time that Time does its research and learns a little bit about the Wii U, because the whole console revolves around the controller. The 3DS's 3D screen really wasn't fully explored until Super Mario 3D Land came out...8 months after the handheld was released. The same thing will happen with the Wii U. Things like this take TIME. Behind the times much, Time?
@SockoMario Right?!?! People seriously need to chill...I know some people that read my comment are going to tell ME to chill but it needs to be the other way around. I was trying to help people look on the bright side of things, because when you do, you can see that this title will definitely be vital in the Wii U's revival.
Wow, the Sony and Microsoft fans were right...Nintendo fans ARE the worst.
Seriously, people! Someone else said this...we were never promised a fresh new game. We were never promised a game so massive as Galaxy. We were never promised an open-world game. We were promised a 3D Mario, and this is a 3D Mario. Like everyone, I was slightly disappointed at first...and then this game grew on me!
And seriously, people! You do realize that we are still VERY early in the Wii U's life cycle! No one said that this would be the ONLY 3D Mario the Wii U gets. There's always the possibility that Nintendo will create a grand, new, massive, and completely fresh 3D Mario at a later date!
You guys all jump to conclusions too quickly. For goodness sake, we've only known about this game for three days. THREE DAYS! We can't judge how good or bad this game will be after only THREE DAYS. I think this game looks fantastic...yes, it wasn't what we were expecting, but it still looks REALLY good! As a sequel to 3D Land, it will most likely fix 3D Land's mistakes. 3D Land was fantastic, but it wasn't without its flaws. 3D World could and should easily fix those flaws, similar to how Galaxy 2 fixed Galaxy 1's flaws (except for the swimming, that still sucks).
Give the game a chance, people. You're all too demanding. I've learned to not get my hopes up too high. I kept my expectations fairly low this time around, so all of my expectations were exceeded, especially by Mario Kart 8...that blew me away. Give the game a chance. As I said, we've only known about this game for 3 days. We hardly know anything about it other than it exists and that it's a sequel to 3D Land and a spiritual 3D successor to Super Mario Bros. 2.
@TheRealOtto There's always the possibility that a new and grand 3D Mario will come at a later date. This game could just be the taster. Remember, we're still pretty early in the Wii U's life cycle. I would expect a brand new 3D Mario later on.

Re: Miiverse Update Adds Tags to Posts
Miiverse will be perfect once it's on 3DS too. Hoping it will be included in the next 3DS update, whenever that will be.
Re: Pikmin 3 Makes UK Chart Debut in Second Place
@SyFyTy Dude that whole third paragraph was talking about where 3DS games stood on the chart. Chill out.
Re: Pikmin 3 Makes UK Chart Debut in Second Place
Can't wait until you post some actual numbers. I'm happy it came in at second place but I want to see how many Wii U's it sold.
Re: There's a Day One Pikmin 3 Update Waiting For You
As long as it's short. The 45 minute update for Nintendo Land was absolutely ridiculous.

"As the PS3 example does show, as well as that of the 3DS, early struggles don't doom a system to failure, even if they're undesirable."
People need to get that message through to their heads. Well said, Nintendo Life, well said. I honestly couldn't agree more with that statement.

Good job, Nintendo! Let's keep this trend going!
Re: Warner Bros. Announces The LEGO Movie Videogame For Wii U And 3DS
I'll have to see the movie first before deciding. I'm still kind of skeptical about the movie.
But, as mentioned before, a Lego City Undercover sequel would be MUCH appreciated and I would welcome it with open arms.

Besides, I've always wanted a 3D Land sequel.
Re: Frog Suit Confirmed For Super Mario 3D World
So basically these are the confirmed power-ups:
Cat Suit, Frog Suit, Tanooki Suit, Fire Flower, and Super Mushroom.
And we're only on the second day of E3? And we already know about this many power-ups?
I hope there's at least one more new one. I was kind of disappointed that New Super Mario Bros. U only had one new power-up...
Re: Nintendo Reveal Why Its 3D Mario Title Isn't Super Mario Galaxy 3
@TheRealOtto There's always the possibility that a new and grand 3D Mario will come at a later date. This game could just be the taster. Remember, we're still pretty early in the Wii U's life cycle. I would expect a brand new 3D Mario later on.
