Re: 3DS System Update Adds Nintendo Network ID, Miiverse and Unified eShop Funds

Yoshis_VGM

I'm glad Miiverse is finally on the 3DS!! Hopefully the friend search and private messaging features will be enabled soon...Miiverse is heavily administered anyway, so they can pull out any inappropriate content.

My only concern right now is that the 3DS Miiverse app is extremely sluggish but that's probably just because a lot of people are trying to update. Same goes for the eShop. Hopefully that will correct itself overtime.

Re: Super Mario 3D World Sells 57% of Its Initial Shipment in Japan

Yoshis_VGM

Nintendo Life, I caught a mistake in your article. Actually, I got two.

First, you said that 3D World shifted 100,000 copies in a week...incorrect. It shipped 100,000 copies in two days. Which, given the Wii U's small install base in Japan, that's a huge number.

Second, you forgot to mention that this only covers physical copies. Here in North America, 3D World shifted 250,000 copies in 48 hours, but Miiverse saw an explosion of posts immediately after midnight on the east coast struck. You need to mention that that number only represents physical copies, because once you factor in the digital copies, the number will be much higher.

It's also worth noting that the Wii U shifted 110,000 units worldwide this week. By comparison, it sold 160,000 units in the first quarter of this year. The Wii U is slowly, but surely, getting better.

Re: Happy Birthday, Wii U - You're One Today

Yoshis_VGM

My Wii U has yet to turn one (it's birthday will be Christmas Day), but I wish the Wii U brand name a very happy first birthday! Your first year was rough...but you have a bright future ahead. Super Mario 3D World comes on Friday, and 2014 is packed full of top-notch first party games. I wish you luck in the future, and here's to a successful second year!!!

Re: Poll: As the PS4 Arrives, What Do You Think of the 'New Gen' Environment for Wii U?

Yoshis_VGM

You know, we must also consider that Super Mario 3D World launches on Friday, and that game currently stands at the #27 most-wanted video game product on Amazon, the highest I've EVER seen a Wii U product since launch. This whole year, anything Wii U related has been hovering around the #500-1000 spot. 3D World is highly anticipated, as with a lot of the major games coming out next year.

The Wii U is not dead yet. We can't call a console a "failure" after only a year on the market. The console will have another chance to redeem itself in the spring. No matter how much Sony and Microsoft will deny it, they will have a post-launch game drought. Every console has a drought, and with Donkey Kong and Mario Kart launching in February/springtime, the Wii U will have a chance to redeem itself.

Give the Wii U a chance, people. Most of you haters out there have probably never even touched one. If the Wii U is still doing this poorly this time next year, then Nintendo should have a reason to worry.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Resilience Against Wii U Criticism Emphasizes Its Longevity

Yoshis_VGM

That whole Cnet video was totally biased. They presented no evidence whatsoever as to why we should avoid it. Isn't a price cut a good thing?! Besides, Nintendo slashed the 3DS price much sooner and much steeper than they slashed the Wii U's price, and look at the 3DS now. They'll be eating their words once Super Mario 3D World comes out, because I've honestly been hearing a LOT of people talking about getting a Wii U + 3D World.

And this whole thing about the Wii U not being "next gen" is ridiculous. Console generations are NOT based off of horsepower...they are based on release dates and succession. The Wii U succeeds the Wii, a 7th generation console, and it was released in 2012, during the 8th generation. Therefore it is a so-called "next generation" console. The console wars are ridiculous. If everybody wanted to have the oh-so powerful console, we'd all be PC gamers, right? Buy the console that has games that appeal to you the most; don't buy a console simply because it's "more powerful" than a competitor.

Finally, Nintendo Life, keep doing what you're doing. I love reading your articles because even though they're written by Nintendo fans, they're unbiased, and they don't, as you say, make it seem like everything Nintendo does is fine and dandy. Like you guys, I disagree with some of the choices Nintendo has made, but I am still faithful to them. Keep doing what you're doing; I enjoy reading your articles. It's my go-to place for the most recent Nintendo news.

Re: Nintendo Direct Broadcast Confirmed for 13th November

Yoshis_VGM

I've seen enough 3D World and I refuse to watch anything else until the game releases so I hope they don't show anything more there. If anything, I'm more interested on details for Mario Party: Island Tour, since that game comes out next Friday and we still don't know much about it. You know what...here's my list of what I want to see:

-Mario Party: Island Tour
-Zelda: Link Between Worlds (I imagine that will be featured)
-Kirby 3DS
-Yoshi's New Island (still know only minimal information about this title)
-Mario Golf: World Tour (seriously, this game practically dropped off the radar...)
-MIIVERSE FOR 3DS. I NEED to see this announcement!
-A new announcement?
-Mario Kart 8 (even though it's looking it will be 3DS centered, they typically discuss a thing or two about the other console, and Mario Kart 8 is coming in early 2014, so...)

Hope this Direct won't disappoint.

Re: Nintendo UK Planning Major TV Campaign For Super Mario 3D World

Yoshis_VGM

@Sceptic Well I don't know if you've noticed, but the Wii U is actually picking up speed. Remember that article Nintendo Life posted a few weeks ago that said the Mario and Luigi bundle completely sold out in U.S. Target stores? The Wii U is not dying. We can't say that yet. I will only call the Wii U dead after all of 2014's heavy hitters release and the console is still somehow not selling well.

Re: Mahito Yokota and Koji Kondo Discuss Their Involvement with Super Mario 3D World

Yoshis_VGM

@HyperSonicEXE That? That's not synth either...that's an orchestral big band piece.

@SockoMario They're not reusing a whole lot...the castle theme is remixed and the boss victory theme sounds better orchestrated. The underground theme is only slightly remixed but still new. Yokota and Kondo did the same thing with Galaxy, they transferred about 10 themes over to Galaxy 2.

Re: Flipnote Studio 3D Friends Gallery Disabled in Japan

Yoshis_VGM

So help me, if Nintendo disables Miiverse next, IMMA BE PISSED. I use Miiverse WAY more than I ever used Swapnote because it's more accessible than Swapnote and it allows me to connect with my fellow gamers! Nintendo will be receiving a very, very heavily worded email if Miiverse goes out next.

Luckily, however, I doubt they'd do such a thing, because Miiverse is heavily moderated and anything inappropriate is typically removed within 5 minutes.

Re: Iwata Braves Press Conference to Explain Nintendo's Earnings

Yoshis_VGM

Like someone else said, do you guys all seriously think firing Iwata will magically solve Nintendo's issues? No, it won't. They'll still be there if he gets fired and they'll still be there when they hire a new CEO.

Do you guys really think taking away the GamePad and giving the Wii U a more traditional controller will help anything? Because then we'll literally have three identical consoles on the market, the only difference being different exclusives and a different brand name. The GamePad brings out the Wii U's uniqueness - it brings out Nintendo's uniqueness. Take away their uniqueness, and what will Nintendo be? Nothing. Just another old video game company that only focuses on yearly rehashes.

Nintendo will not be the first company to go third party. They have more money than Microsoft and Sony combined. Microsoft and Sony are closer to going third party than Nintendo is. Nintendo can bomb at least two more generations and still be fine.

That being said, the real problem here is ADVERTISING. I'm sick of having to explain to everybody what the heck a Wii U is. Come on Nintendo, market this thing AGGRESSIVELY. I liked what somebody else said about mocking the non-owners. Remember when Reggie did that with the 3DS? He said, "If you don't own a 3DS, what's wrong with you?!"

Spread the word, Nintendo. Make the Wii U known!

Re: Nintendo Financial Reports Bring Minor Profit, 3DS Success and More Wii U Struggles

Yoshis_VGM

I have a feeling Super Mario 3D World will be the Wii U's saving grace this winter. The most recent trailer(s) show a much different image than what was shown at E3, and it's shaping up to be one of the best 3D Mario games to date. I also think the NSMBU + NSLU bundle will help drive sales too...I think more people will recognize Mario on the box more than Nintendo Land. Nintendo should also consider releasing bundles w/ Super Mario 3D World included...OR they could sell an "Ultimate Mario" bundle which includes NSMBU, NSLU, and SM3DW.

Whatever it takes, I have a feeling the Wii U will start making a comeback this winter.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Talks Mobile Strategy for Nintendo

Yoshis_VGM

@D3athBr1ng3r187 You totally did not understand this, Nintendo has always planned to bring Miiverse to iOS and Android since Wii U's Day 1, and he's most likely referring to that here.

@Diz93 I love that idea! And it could give you a notification alert when they announce a Nintendo Direct...I'd love that: "Nintendo: Tune in for a new installment of Nintendo Direct tomorrow, ___/___/13 @ 7 AM PST covering _______." Beautiful!

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Doesn't Rule Out Additional HD Remakes and a Return to the Mario Galaxy Style

Yoshis_VGM

I like Miyamoto's words about 3D World, and I totally agree. Sometimes it's good to take a break from groundbreaking innovation every iteration to something that's just a whole lot of fun to play. 3D World isn't groundbreaking, but it's got a lot of new elements and it looks like a blast to play gameplay wise. As for another Galaxy style game, I'd like to see something completely new rather than a Galaxy 3.

Re: Preview: Super Mario 3D World

Yoshis_VGM

It's amazing how much this game has changed since E3...I wonder if Nintendo did that on purpose. Show a somewhat mediocre yet fun 3D Mario at E3, and then blow the cap off of the rest of the development details a few months later. If that truly was their plan, it worked. I'm so psyched for this game and I can't wait for my copy to get here.

Re: This Is How Much Space Super Mario 3D World Will Gobble Up On Your Wii U

Yoshis_VGM

@fluggy A small file size does NOT mean it has small content. And the score is orchestrated, that has been confirmed now. It has also been confirmed that Mahito Yokota and Koji Kondo will be the composers (they composed Galaxy, in case you didn't know). And the graphics look much better than they did at E3...but the graphics aren't the major selling point here, the gameplay is. This game looks like it will offer some killer platforming geniusness. As someone mentioned earlier, Super Mario 64 was a mere 8MB, and that game sure packed in a lot of content. Small file size =/= less content.
