@Moshugan There's always the possibility that a new and grand 3D Mario will come at a later date. This game could just be the taster. Remember, we're still pretty early in the Wii U's life cycle. I would expect a brand new 3D Mario later on.
I'm so glad that the Nintendo Life comments section has good people...the commenters on the YouTube video are just complainers that are like "waa waa it isn't Mario Galaxy 3 waa waa" and it's getting old.
I have a feeling that this game (which looks fantastic) will just be the taster for another, more grand 3D Mario that will come in 2-3 years. But I have a feeling that this and Mario Kart 8 will be enough at the moment to turn the Wii U's sales around.
I'm not sure why everyone wanted a Galaxy 3. 2 Galaxy games is enough! Yeah, sure, I wanted something fresh too, but this game is warming up to me, and I'm quite looking forward to playing it. You guys all need to shut up and stop complaining. There are plenty of new things here:
1) This is major: MULTIPLAYER!!! Sure, Galaxy and Galaxy 2 had multiplayer, but it was just an "assist Luma." This game has FULL ON multiplayer, something that hasn't been seen in a 3D Mario ever before.
2) The cat suit. After getting over my initial shock that the new power-up is a cat, I started to like it.
3) The clear pipes. That is actually a really cool addition that I look forward to trying out.
4) This is a big one too: The story will finally be different! With Peach being a playable character, it's obvious that this game won't have the typical "Bowser kidnaps Peach, Mario saves the day, woohoo the end" story.
I will admit that I still have a longing for something fresh. I'm sure that this game will be amazing and I will love it and enjoy it. Just remember folks, we're still very early in the Wii U's life cycle (this game is coming just a little bit after it turns 1), so we could see another massive, completely fresh 3D Mario at a later date.
Until then, there's this game and Mario Kart 8, which is enough to soothe my need for Wii U games.
I was initially disappointed when I saw the name of the title, but now, after watching the trailer and the developer's interview, this game has grown on me! I'm REALLY looking forward to it! I think the cat suit will be an interesting concept to use.
Between this and Mario Kart 8, I'm really excited for the upcoming year!
This will definitely be the definitive Mario Kart. I can already tell!!
My only worry is that they'll force me to use bikes in order to complete 100cc mode, like they did in Mario Kart Wii. I'm not really a fan of the bikes.
Other than that, I'm extremely excited...the graphics look AMAZING...I'm actually finding it hard to believe that this is a MARIO KART game. I'm also glad to see Music Park and Piranha Plant Slide make a return, they were two of my favorite Mario Kart 7 tracks.
Spring 2014 couldn't come any sooner! Until that day comes, I'll be playing Super Mario 3D World, another game that looks really good!
Well it doesn't really matter to me because there are no Best Buy locations in my state so I wouldn't be able to go anyway. But even so if that is the real list it is quite disappointing...
I'm so glad Tuesday is a state holiday...I don't have to suffer the pain of sitting through school, knowing that the Direct is sitting in my inbox tantalizing me. I can watch it as soon as I wake up...it will be bliss.
Anyway, I am mainly looking forward to the 3D Mario. I am absolutely clueless as to what it will be. If it is Super Mario Galaxy 3, I will be mildly upset. Of course I will still buy it and (most likely) enjoy it, but we need a fresh new 3D Mario game for the Wii U. Oh, and I want it for a Thanksgiving/Christmas release...that would help the system IMMENSELY.
I'm also very excited to see the new Mario Kart. I am a SUCKER for Mario Kart. I can play it for hours on end. I've been waiting to see the new Mario Kart from the day the Wii U was announced...yes that sounds obsessive but it was inevitable...new system means a new Mario Kart. It better blow my mind...I want immensely detailed and awesome tracks, kart customization, insane and awesome online, great Miiverse integration, and, most importantly, stellar GamePad integration. There's a lot of potential for the GamePad in a Mario Kart game...can't wait to see what happens.
Other games I want to see are Yarn Yoshi, the Zeldas (Wind Waker HD, the new Wii U one, the new 3DS one), Retro's game, as well as some of the other 3DS games announced (Mario Party especially).
I'm done with my fanboy hype rant now. I can't really help it, with E3 so close the fanboy inside me is starting to show.
Anybody else notice that Mario is holding a GamePad in the background?
Anyway yeah I kinda freaked when Reggie came running into my Wii U home menu...I'm SO excited for Tuesday! I can't wait to see what Nintendo has in store!!!
I always play in 3D and I always thought that the games still run at 60FPS with the 3D switched on...because whenever I turn the 3D off (which is rarely) I don't see a difference in framerate...and I know that most games on the 3DS run at 60FPS...
facepalm That's why people buy Nintendo consoles!!! Xbox isn't selling their IPs on Nintendo consoles, and neither is Sony. People buy Nintendo consoles for the stellar Nintendo IPs. If Nintendo sells their games on other platforms, who's gonna buy the Nintendo consoles? This guy is obviously a "Wii U d00m and gl00m" person, it's easily implied by the statement he said.
I really, really like the GamePad. It fits into my hands perfectly, it's so easy to hold, it's light, it's just all around perfect. But I do like the GameCube controller a lot too.
Ubisoft, you have nothing to worry about. People have been hyped for this game ever since you announced it. Just keep doing what you're doing and you'll be fine. You're a much better company than Electronic A**.
@ron4540 They will not sell the Wii U without the GamePad. The GamePad is the main controller of the Wii U, they can't really sell the console without the controller. Besides, if they just used the Wii remotes again as the main controllers, it would basically be a worthless upgrade.
Pachter is free to suck it. The 3DS is on fire and it's not showing any signs of stopping. The Wii U will start flying off the shelves too once it gets it's first party games. Nintendo instinctively made the GamePad a tablet because they knew that this console generation was going to face competition from tablets.
Pachter claims he's a Nintendo fan, but I think his predictions say otherwise.
@Robzy1990 Ehhhh....no. That won't happen. Nintendo even confirmed that it's a 3D Mario game. If you take a look at the New Super Luigi U box art, you can see Luigi riding Yoshi...and lo and behold, it matches the silhouette. It's probably just New Super Luigi U.
My predictions for the four games: 1) Mario Kart 2) 3D Mario 3) Smash Bros. 4) Wind Waker HD
Of course, I could be wrong about numbers 3 and 4, but 1 and 2 were confirmed to be true ages ago. Too bad they're not coming to my state, otherwise I'd be at Best Buy first thing in the morning.
Needless to say, I'm still excited for the Direct. June 11 couldn't come any sooner.
NINTENDO!!! Why is there no Hawaii on this list??????? C'mon, there's a Best Buy like, 10 minutes from my house!!!! I know there's several in Honolulu!!!
Now I'm sad...I guess I'll just watch the Direct and wait rather than experience it...
I can definitely see the similarities to Galaxy, but this game does look like a promising edition to Nintendo consoles. Hopefully it will draw more people to the Wii U.
Hey remember now, the Xbox One is also a water cooler, so if your fridge ever breaks down, you can count on it to keep your water cooled. But chances are an Internet connection will be required for that functionality to work.
Just another attempt to bash Nintendo, that's all, because he knew that Nintendo would be the only company this gen to use backwards compatibility.
I feel bad for you Xbox 360 owners upgrading to the One because you have to get rid of ALL of your 360 games. Upgrading to a Wii U allowed me to keep all of the awesome Wii exclusives.
@Zyph It's just the Wii U determining if a disc is in there or not. If there is no disc inserted, the disc drive shuts down until a disc is inserted. The Wii did the same thing, just not as loud.
@ferthepoet Dude, the two previous Nintendo Directs were all about the 3DS. Besides, people need to be more concerned about Wii U, not the 3DS. The 3DS already has a massive library with more games coming and the Wii U hardly has anything. It's a really good thing that Nintendo talked about the upcoming Wii U games because that's what us Wii U owners are looking forward too. Yes, I've been waiting for this day to come! I've been DYING to know what the 3D Mario will be about and I can't wait to see what the new Mario Kart looks like!
Pros about the DLC version: $10 cheaper, comes out sooner. Pros about box: The box looks amazing! That green case is so cool...it would look amazing and it would stand out as a superior Luigi title compared to the typical blue/white cases of Wii U and Wii games, respectively.
Cons of DLC version: If my console dies, I'd have to pay for the game again Cons of box: More expensive, have to wait longer.
I'm so TOORRRRRNNNNN......I really don't know what to do.
I might just buy the DLC so I can have something to play throughout the summer until the big games start spilling out in Fall/Winter.
@GN004Nadleeh $20 for an adventure on the same scale as the original game (82 newly remastered levels) with a 5-player multiplayer experience, full 1080p HD graphics running at 60fps? And, from the gameplay footage we've seen, an adventure that's much more challenging than the original adventure? And for only a third of the price (half if you buy the separate package)? Seriously?
Yeah, as someone else said, go enjoy your FPS games while we play quality platforming games.
I already have the red one, and I can't see much of a difference...this red only looks slightly brighter.
Quite personally I think they need a GREEN 3DS. That's the one 3DS color I really want to see. I originally wanted a green one but they never released it (yet they showcased it) so I got the red instead. If they release a green 3DS I would trade my red one for the green one in a heartbeat. I mean, c'mon, it is the Year of Luigi after all, they HAVE to release a green 3DS...
As a person who started playing Nintendo handhelds with the GameBoy Advance and started playing their consoles with the Wii, I have to say that the 3DS is my favorite console. As the article states, a little patience, a price cut, and a few quality games can make all the difference. The 3DS made a HUGE comeback and it's showing no signs of stopping (I'm hoping this kick will happen later this year for the Wii U when it's big titles start to come out). It has a massive game library and I think that some of the more recent titles really show the system's true capabilities. Mario Kart 7 brilliantly showed off the 3DS's online presence, and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon continues to show off the online capabilities. A lot of the first-party titles are really good, such as Super Mario 3D Land. I'm hoping that before the 3DS's cycle is up we will see a much superior sequel to 3D Land. Don't get me wrong, 3D Land was amazing, but there was much room for improvement, and a sequel can easily fix the original's mistakes. I'm also hoping we'll see a redesign soon (a 3DS Lite or 3DSi) that can extend the battery life and improve the 3D viewing window.
Basically, I'm super impressed with the 3DS right now, and it is my favorite console. The 3DS is living proof that a comeback is totally possible. The 3DS has had an amazing first 2 years that has seen many great titles. 2013 looks like a great year for 3DS and I think that Nintendo will shatter their 18 million unit projection. I can't wait to see where the 3DS will stand 2 years from now. The 3DS's presence is too great to be ignored.
I can say without a doubt that Nintendo will once again take 1st place for the handheld console race. The handheld race is Nintendo's strongest point - they've always excelled in that market and I can't wait to see what they do next with the 3DS.
I have to laugh when Sony fans and PS Vita owners bash the Wii U for its sucky sales when the Vita isn't doing too hot either. In it's first 6 months, it only managed to sell 2.2 million units, while the Wii U was able to push 3.06 million units in a month and a half, which is respectable for a console launch. Yes, both consoles are in a crappy situation, but the Wii U has a promising second half of 2013 while what's the Vita's promise? Ripoff the GamePad by making it the PS4's second screen? Please. I just find it funny that the Vita owners constantly bash the Wii U when they have no right to be talking, their console isn't performing well at all either.
Whoa Nintendo!!! I was expecting the 3D Mario to come this year but before October?!?! No, no, and no. Please Nintendo make it a Thanksgiving or Christmas release. This will most definitely bolster Wii U sales but please don't rush it or else it won't bolster the sales as much as you're hoping it will. PLEASE wait until November/December to release this game, not before October. Please, I beg of you.
I honestly don't think this game will be low quality. Please stop and think for a minute:
This Mario Kart was officially announced in the January Nintendo Direct for Wii U. Then, it was announced that it would be playable at E3 this year. This fact implies that the game has been in production for quite some time if a playable demo was to be ready by summer. This also implies that the game was nearing completion. Development for these games started before the Wii U even came out. You never know, this game could've been in production since the day Mario Kart 7 was released.
I think Mario Kart U (that's what I call it) will be amazing and I hope it will have DLC. That would be epic. Bring back the single player VS mode (it was left out of MK7 for some strange unknown reason), add more tracks, get rid of the crappy characters (cough cough Queen Bee and Wiggler) and bring back all the GCN/Wii characters. Bring back some of the best retro courses. Have a massive and really good online service. If the above criteria is met, Mario Kart U will be a huge system seller and Nintendo is making the right decision anyway releasing this in the holiday season.
The update is now live! Rejoice! The loading times are DRASTICALLY improved, it really is amazing how much better the loading times are. Nintendo Land launched in about 7 seconds and closed in a mere 4 seconds. Very impressive Nintendo, very impressive. I congratulate you, this is very good. The Wii U went from sluggish to almost instant. Maybe the upcoming summer update will achieve that instant status.
Nintendo said the Wii U VC service would launch the day after the system update, meaning the latest the VC service can go live and STILL COUNT AS THIS WEEK is Saturday. This corners the Wii U system update for either Thursday or Friday. Think about it folks.
I just got home, went to system settings, tried updating, NOTHING. The update wasn't there. It isn't out yet. Or will it be out later today? I will try again tonight.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Drifting Onto Wii U in Spring 2014
I'm actually kind of glad that it isn't coming until 2014, which means that there is less of a chance that it will feel rushed.
Besides, we get Super Mario 3D World in December, and that game will most likely change the course of the Wii U...DRASTICALLY.

I mean, c'mon, it is the Year of Luigi after all, they HAVE to release a green 3DS...
Re: Fez Creator Believes Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is More Suited To Vita
Cough I detect a Sony fanboy who's too upset that the 3DS is smashing the Vita.
Seriously? The 3DS is MUCH better than the Vita. How would he know the 3D is a gimmick, I doubt he's ever even touched the damn thing!
Yeah, Sony fanboyism and Nintendo trolling is obvious.
What's he said about Wii U, given it's a two-screen console? Probably going to say the PS4 is better when it's really just a spruced up PS3.
Re: Feature: 3DS - A Report Card Ahead of Its Biggest Year
As a person who started playing Nintendo handhelds with the GameBoy Advance and started playing their consoles with the Wii, I have to say that the 3DS is my favorite console.
Re: PS4 And Next Xbox Could Share Wii U's Teething Troubles, Says Activision's Kotick
Re: Rumour: Nintendo Planning a 3D Mario Release on Wii U Before October
Whoa Nintendo!!! I was expecting the 3D Mario to come this year but before October?!?! No, no, and no. Please Nintendo make it a Thanksgiving or Christmas release. This will most definitely bolster Wii U sales but please don't rush it or else it won't bolster the sales as much as you're hoping it will. PLEASE wait until November/December to release this game, not before October. Please, I beg of you.
Re: Rumour: New Call of Duty Title To Be Revealed Next Week
Not again....
Re: Rejoice, Mario Kart Wii U Is Coming This Year
I honestly don't think this game will be low quality.
Re: Rumour: Wii U System Update Could Go Live Tomorrow
The update is now live! Rejoice! The loading times are DRASTICALLY improved, it really is amazing how much better the loading times are.
Nintendo Land launched in about 7 seconds and closed in a mere 4 seconds.
Very impressive Nintendo, very impressive. I congratulate you, this is very good. The Wii U went from sluggish to almost instant. Maybe the upcoming summer update will achieve that instant status.
Re: Rumour: Wii U System Update Could Go Live Tomorrow
Stop and think for a bit:
Nintendo said the Wii U VC service would launch the day after the system update, meaning the latest the VC service can go live and STILL COUNT AS THIS WEEK is Saturday. This corners the Wii U system update for either Thursday or Friday. Think about it folks.
Re: Rumour: Wii U System Update Could Go Live Tomorrow
@shinesprite It still says Excitebike releases April 23rd...
Re: Rumour: Wii U System Update Could Go Live Tomorrow
I just got home, went to system settings, tried updating, NOTHING.
The update wasn't there. It isn't out yet. Or will it be out later today? I will try again tonight.
