Re: Anniversary: Paper Mario First Unfolded On N64 25 Years Ago

Yosher

It was my third entry I think after TTYD and Super. As it wasn't my first, I found things to be rather rough around the edges, but I still really love this entry. The story is really nice and the gameplay is solid. The graphics look really cute, and the music is sweet. Absolute banger of a game, this one.

A remake would absolutely help in pulling out the rough edges from this one. It definitely needs the remake treatment more than TTYD did. Not that I minded TTYD getting it instead, since that's my favorite, but you know!

Re: Anniversary: No Way Is Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island 30 Years Old Already

Yosher

Needless to say, one of my all time personal favorites. This game is absolutely phenomenal and I'll always love it. Wish the series that spawned from this wasn't so up and down in quality, but if nothing else, I'll always be grateful for this entry!

And to think, back when I first saw it as a kid, I thought it was too childish. If only my kid self knew it would grow to be a top favorite for me, hahah.

Still hoping for the Yoshi series to get the Bananza treatment one day. There are several examples already of how Yoshi would play in 3D, and those examples are great.

Re: Nintendo Sends Out Second Game-Key Card & Physical Game Survey

Yosher

@rjejr They're not dead until we stop getting physical altogether. They're dying, but not dead yet, and we can keep fighting to keep them around longer, using surveus such as this one.

I'm sure physical will be dead eventually. But we're not at that stage yet, so there's no need to exaggerate.

Re: Nintendo Sends Out Second Game-Key Card & Physical Game Survey

Yosher

@rjejr It doesn't have to be dead. In fact, it simply is not dead yet, I don't know why you're claiming it is. There are still proper physical games coming out.

Game key cards should not be the future. Sure you can trade them in, sell them, and such, but guess what, you can do that with proper physical versions too. Game key cards are not needed for this. The only people who benefit from game key cards are developers, and the extra storage cost is pushed onto the consumer.

Game key cards do not need, nor deserve, to be defended.

Re: Nintendo Sends Out Second Game-Key Card & Physical Game Survey

Yosher

We need this survey to work together with us voting with our wallets so that they HAVE to do something about it.

Game key cards can stay, but as an option next to the proper physical version. Then again, why would anyone want a game key card over a proper physical version? I think game key cards really should just be a thing of the past.

Re: Hands On: Forget The Name, Square Enix's New Action RPG Is A Lovely HD-2D Take On SNES-Era Zelda

Yosher

It honestly very much reminded me of how a 2D Zelda game typically plays, that's for sure. And in all the right ways. They absolutely sold me on this game, and I would highly encourage everyone to give the demo a try. It plays very well!

I'd even go so far as to say that this game sold me on the HD-2D artstyle more than any game prior has done. Probably because this is the first time where I play a game in such an artstyle where I actually enjoy said game. I've only played the original Octopath Traveler before this demo, and that game just did not sit well with me, in regard to how the character stories were handled rather poorly. I've yet to play other HD-2D games, but I am glad to finally have one in Elliot that clicks with me.

Looking forward to this one for sure.

Re: Nintendo Showcases Every Partner Direct Switch 2 Game In New Infographic

Yosher

Alright, at least one positive for me now: I tried out the Adventures of Elliot demo, and I really like this game! Didn't expect to like it as much as I do, but they sold me on getting the game at least.

What form my purchase will take, I'll have to see, but it will absolutely not be a game key card purchase. I would like to be able to play this game plenty of times in the future and not have to rely on it still being up on the eshop, thank you very much.

Re: Reaction: Switch 2 Needed A Partner Showcase With Pep; This Wasn't It

Yosher

@Willo567 Yes, for a few reasons.

1. Steam games are often cheaper.

2. PC games can be modded without Nintendo riding your tail about it.

3. Part of the reason I've been a console gamer is so I don't have to worry about storage (as much). Game key cards are forcing people to manage storage constantly and I hate that. PC is just easier to manage storage wise.

4. PC games will be playable for a long time. I don't know if the next Nintendo system will be backwards compatible, and/or when the eshop goes down and preventing me from redownloading my games. Game key cards will be useless at that point too.

So yeah. In my eyes, getting games on PC is just becoming much more attractive when compared to Switch 2.

Re: Reaction: Switch 2 Needed A Partner Showcase With Pep; This Wasn't It

Yosher

And I'm almost ashamed to say I'm (still) one of those fans. I love Nintendo games, and I have to admit I love my Switch 2 so far. But I don't love it for the third party support. The third party support on it is practically non existent on it for me, due to these game key cards. It's so bad. So bad. And it's so sad. And it's making me want to buy all these games on PC instead. I might just do that. They're cheaper there, plus there's mod support. I always wanted to support third parties on Switch 2, but so long as the games are on game key cards, I'd much rather support them elsewhere.

I really don't want to be so negative. I really don't. I want to be excited. I want to cheer getting all these cool games on the system. I want to look forward playing all these games on my shiny new Switch 2.

But I just can't. And it's frustrating. I need something to change or all my third party games will be purchased on PC, because I sure as heck am not going to be purchasing any game key card. And Nintendo needs to be better at providing dev kits to third parties too. Nintendo needs to not hold an exclusive club and fix the whole Switch 2 situation, pronto.

Pardon the lengthy rant, but this whole Direct and everything around it really laid down how disappointing this Nintendo generation is turning out to be. They're turning me into the meme of an old man yelling at a cloud at this point. But I can only yell at a cloud so often before they lose me as a fan altogether. I already dropped Pokémon after years of being a loyal fan. They can lose me overall too. I have a Switch 2, but if the next system will be just as poorly handled, I might not even get that. I never would have considered not getting a new Nintendo system prior to today. But here we are. Of course, we're still years off from then, so it's too early to even say that anyway, but it does depend on how things go from here on out. If they screw things up more and more, I'll just become a PC gamer instead.

Pardon the double post, apparently I reached the comment length limit and had to split it into two.

Re: Reaction: Switch 2 Needed A Partner Showcase With Pep; This Wasn't It

Yosher

I'm not gonna lie, this Direct has me very fearful for the future of the Switch 2. Not necessarily in terms of success, because so far it seems to be performing quite well. At least in terms of hardware and first party sales. Don't know how well the game key cards games are performing.

But the fact that (almost) all of these games shown are said to be in game key cards leaves an incredibly sour taste in my mouth. They're really trying to shove that down our throats, and I really, really, really can't stand that.

But it's not just that. A lot of stuff felt to be missing here. A lot of stuff that, somehow, feels like it's all Nintendo's fault. Maybe the game key card situation made some third party developers pull back on their support, after seeing they weren't selling. Maybe it's because Nintendo is being incredibly weird with the whole Switch 2 developer kit thing, where a lot of devs aren't given one for whatever reason.

It all reeks suspicious one way or another. The Switch 2 should have been a big success coming off of the immensely popular Switch, but it really feels like Nintendo is butchering it for no reason other than "**** you". They're truly turning into the Disney of the video game market now, and I don't like it.

Maybe I'm being too pessimistic though. It's still too early to yell doom and gloom right now, since this was the first post launch direct, and it hasn't been even half a year yet since the system launched. But good gracious they're really not doing a good job selling this system. Yet the system does sell. Probably because they've garnered enough fans now to keep themselves sustained off of fans alone or something, fans who stick with the brand regardless of how bad the company gets, much like Disney.

Re: Square Enix Is Bringing A Brand New HD-2D RPG To Switch 2 Next Year

Yosher

There was a time where this would have excited me, but the HD-2D games all look so similar that I've grown kind of tired of this visual style, especially since it's most of what SE is willing to give us, regarding new original games for specifically Nintendo platforms.

I'm glad with the support, but, eh. I'll try the demo though. See if they can win me over!

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's SNES Library With A Mouse Game

Yosher

Certainly a worthwhile update I'd say! Though I'm not much of an artist myself. Maybe I'll follow along with one of those Bob Ross videos and use his guidelines to create a happy little vista with happy little trees and happy little clouds and a happy little Bowser kidnapping a happy little Peach being bombarded with happy little fireballs by happy little Mario--

Wait, I think Bob may not have actually painted some of those things.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (26th July)

Yosher

I just tried GRIS for the first time. The visuals and the music are both beautiful, but the gameplay is so unengaging that I quit not too long into the game. A shame, I was looking forward to enjoying it, but it just turned out to be rather boring. It's like Mario Kart World where there's just a lot of going straight for a while before anything exciting happens.

I'll probably play a bunch of Ace Attorney Chronicles 2, instead!

Re: Pokémon Presents July 2025: Every Announcement, Full Livestream

Yosher

The pre-show with DJ Pikachu was really cool, and I'll give them points for that. But the presentation was so incredibly lackluster for me, there were zero things shown that interested me.

I went in with zero expectations and somehow still came out disappointed lol.

But hey, at least my money is saved now, since I won't have to buy any Pokémon games now!
