I always wondered how this works, realistically. Like aren't these attacks kind of cutscene based? What happens if you perform only the start up, but don't do the actual attack motion? Does the game just stay locked with your character standing like that? Does it just weaken the move? Seems kinda silly tbh. I wouldn't use motion controls like this anyway.

I'm still truly not a fan of mega evolutions as a mechanic, but the designs for them tend to be pretty cool. This one is no different. Very nice design!

Pricing aside, these are really cute! So very Kirby.

I've tried it before and it didn't click with me then. I should give it another try, it wouldn't be the first time a game didn't click with me at first, but a second attempt sold me on it. Yoshi's Island and Xenoblade Chronicles are the biggest examples for me by far.

That said, I don't really have any intention of playing it just yet. I have too much on my plate as is! I've been playing Amber Isle, PEAK, Ace Attorney, Brok, Romancing SaGa 2, Chibi-Robo, Picross and several other games on and off, as of late. I don't want to fit Hollow Knight into that list quite yet.

In due time I will give it another shot though.

@kmtrain83 I guess Mario Kart and DK really just have that kind of attraction power to them. Mostly Mario Kart probably though, but to have these two games be the main reasons for this kind of early momentum is really insane, haha.

@SoIDecidedTo The Switch 2 updates are nice for sure (even the unintended ones where games simply load faster), but do you think that's enough reason for a lot of people to upgrade? I guess it could be in combination with other things, but I don't think many would upgrade to a new expensive system just to make out some extra detail in clothing in Splatoon.

In any case, I'm glad you managed to nab one and that the little details make you happy regardless! Though I do hope you'll get more out of it than just Splatoon 3 as well. Anything that's announced so far for Switch 2 that's caught your eye?

Why?

If you ask me, there's really not that much reason to go for a Switch 2 yet. Some days I'm even wondering why I, as a long term Nintendo fan, have gotten one already.

Hoping that rumored Nintendo Direct will swing this thought right around and tell me "THIS is why".

I have to get back to this game. I got it on sale and it was really good, just sucks that it's prone to crashing when you keep the game on but pause through the system home menu. That and some occasional stuttering are my only real gripes.

I guess it's up to the modders to add voice clips, just like they did with Nickelodeon All Star Brawl before that game got official voices through an update.

It is so super obviously aimed at smaller children, but that's certainly not a bad thing. It'll keep them entertained for a few minutes and it was silly enough that it kept me entertained for a few minutes too, just to see what it was like.

Now let's see kids playing this grow up to beat stuff like Grandmaster Galaxy and such!

@Willo567 Some third party games coming out doesn't mean other third parties don't have trouble obtaining dev kits. This article wouldn't exist otherwise I would assume. Of course Nintendo would at least ensure their biggest partners would get dev kits, but there's still others who seemingly don't have them.

If you're a teacher in a class with 30 kids, and you only give 12 kids crayons and paper, while the other kids get nothing, that means there will still be things created, but not every kid can do so. It's basic logic.

What are they even doing there at this point? This is dumb. Get these devs their kits so they can deliver stuff to us.

I'll have vacation by then so, fine with me! Bring on Super Mario Bros. 40. And then have it taken away again a few months later for no reason other than.... wait, what reason did they give again? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I had no idea of this game's existence even, either.

That said, they're both not great box arts, but at least the NA one has Chibi in a garden. I guess.

@Dr_Awkward 1. My initial comment here only mentioned game key cards as a side thing as to my reasoning for not buying the game on Switch 2.

2. My second comment was a response to elaborate on my stance on game key cards.

3. I'm far from the only one complaining about them.

I think I made my point quite clear though. I don't trust the eShop to be around longer than Steam, and I think game key cards suck for multiple reasons beyond the physical/digital aspect.

More power to you if you like them. I don't. Simple as that.

@ferryb001 A few points:

• Game key cards are NOT physical. It's just a key in a cart. The license part really doesn't matter to me.
• Game key cards essentially to force you to expand your Switch 2 memory with an expensive SD express card, passing this extra cost onto consumers as well. And these things are really expensive and hard to find right now.
• You still have to insert the cart into the system to play. At that point, may as well go full on digital.
• On the latter note, Steam versions are often cheaper if only due to being out longer, and they typically support mods as well. I don't think it needs telling what will happen when you try to mod your Switch 2 to use such mods, if they're even available on Switch 2.
• It's just a personal feeling as of now, but I trust Steam to be around longer than the Switch (2) eshop. Once that eshop goes down (like plug fully pulled, not just preventing purchases), key cards will become useless. I think Steam will still be around when that happens. As said though, this point is just a personal feeling.

I mean. Considering the game is very likely to be released on a game key card, I had no intention of getting this game on Switch 2 anyway. Steam will be the way to go once again unless they do release it on a proper cart on Switch 2 after all.

Big fat 9 for me. The only thing I needed to make it a 10 would have been the confirmation of Top Ride, or the showcase of whatever that little trophy thingy is all about. Otherwise I thought this Direct was blooming awesome and it made me really happy to see.

What a contrast to the Mario Kart World Direct this was. It's not even funny how much better this one was.

I love this addition so much, it's so simple yet complicated, so Sakurai and so awesome. This game is going to be so good.

Good grief, now this was a Direct. This is a Sakurai game through and through and I love it for that. Amazing, really looking forward to this game now! City Trial certainly looks really solid, but so does everything else do far.

Regardless of reasoning for the game being relatively poorly optimized for the systems... this on top of it being a game key card solidified my stance to just not get this game for Switch (2), not even digital. I'll just wait for a big Steam sale.

Ooh. I was completely unaware of this game. I mean, I vaguely remember seeing the key art for the game, but otherwise I recall absolutely nothing about this one. Had no idea it was Shin'en behind this either. That makes this more exciting for me. I'll keep an eye out for this now.

Now THIS is a direct I'm definitely looking forward to. Come on Sakurai, show those chumps how it's done!

I'm mildly surprised there's no review of this game (yet). I got it on Steam and it's a really cute, charming game. I'd like to see what NintendoLife would think of it as well.

@Spoony_Tech I picked NA and I won't feel bad for it! The EU and Japan ones aren't bad, but the NA one feels more adventurous and has more action going on rather than just a group shot of various characters and creatures.

If done right, I might play this more than Mario Kart World. Which is kind of crazy for me to think about, given how much time I've sunk into every Mario Kart game before World. I trust Sakurai to make this game the best it can be!

@Clammy They could dress it up to be some kind of new tech E. Gadd invented or something. Maybe they'd be kneeling down on a board with wheels instead of on a wheelchair. But I agree that making it a new IP is better, just in this case having an already existing IP attached to it would probably just help a bunch.

Though maybe the game will still sell a ton anyway. Too early to say.

Splatoon had Mario characters in it at one point before they decided to make original characters for that game, being the Inklings.

This has very generic looking characters in it, while this could really have benefited from having some big Nintendo faces in it, Mario or otherwise.

Absolutely not. Unless I get it for free. Or like, 5 bucks at most, and it won't go for that ever, I'm sure. There's very little appeal in this one, in my eyes. There is virtually no Nintendo charm to be had here.

It was my third entry I think after TTYD and Super. As it wasn't my first, I found things to be rather rough around the edges, but I still really love this entry. The story is really nice and the gameplay is solid. The graphics look really cute, and the music is sweet. Absolute banger of a game, this one.

A remake would absolutely help in pulling out the rough edges from this one. It definitely needs the remake treatment more than TTYD did. Not that I minded TTYD getting it instead, since that's my favorite, but you know!

For once, Japan is the clear loser instead of the clear winner.

My personal guess is that they don't include these songs yet solely to give people more incentive to buy the games and listen to these soundtracks there, and then later upload them after a year or so. Would give the game a slight bit of a boost I would imagine if they can advertise them again in a relatively small way like that.

A solid 8 for me. There was just a good showing all around in my opinion, absolutely 1-upped the Partner Direct for me. Quite good!

This game very much reminded me of some old Flash games I used to play back in the day. That already gave it points, but the multiplayer gives it extra. It looks really fun. Keeping an eye out for this one!

Somehow I don't think I ever heard of this game, I thought it was Lethal Company at first. Don't think I'll be going for this one regardless. But it's cool to see here!

Seems like a good title. I won't buy it yet but I'll put it on my wishlist.
