Re: Rumour: New Leak May Explain Why So Many Switch 2 Physicals Are Game Key Cards

Yosher

I don't care about the reason here. I'm a consumer, I'm the one who gets the final product in his hands, I'm the one being affected here on the bottom line, so I'm the one who is going to opt out from purchasing any game that comes in a game key card.

I really, truly, very much hope these game key cards are going to flop hard. Let there be another desert cartridge dumping.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Mario Party 3

Yosher

Come on, this is just a no brainer. Japan by an absolute, uncontested landslide. Not only does it pretty much contain the full art, it also has minimal clutter that obscures the art and doesn't have an ugly thick border either.

Between the US and EU ones though, which is a more fair contest, I'd proooobably give it to EU for using the border instead of the red transparent banner that obscures part of the art. I'm not a fan of either approach, but the EU one is better.

Makes me wish the Western games had a similar vertical box art approach that Japan got. At least that was rectified the moment the GameCube came along!

Edit: also, that's NOT Bowser Jr. Bowser Jr didn't even exist yet at this time. That's Koopa Kid aka Bowser Kid aka Mini Bowser aka Baby Bowser (not to be confused with Bowser as a baby), a similar looking character who appeared only in Mario Party games, appearing from Mario party 1 through 7 before being replaced completely by Bowser Jr going forward.

Re: Shuhei Yoshida On Higher Switch 2 Game Prices: "It Was Going To Happen Eventually"

Yosher

The biggest shock for me personally was seeing this game costing €90 over here, which it still costs officially, though no store outside of Nintendo's own charges that much currently, most going for just under €80.

Still, the official price (still) being €90 is a 50% increase of what Mario Kart 8 costed at launch and still officially costs to this day. And I find a few things confusing.

First, why did the Euro version go up from 60 to 90, while the USD version went up from 60 to 80? That makes little sense to me. They're probably just rounding out numbers but it's pretty stupid if you ask me.

Second, how did it happen that this caused confusion that it costed 90 USD when that, as far as I'm aware, never was the case? It's just all around confusing.

Either way, the 90 euro pricetag is just too much of an increase at once and while games will inevitably cost more, I still fail to see why Mario Kart in particular should have this price, outside of "this series sells like hotcakes so we can definitely squeeze more out of our customers".

I feel like it's just Nintendo's strategy to make it cost this much to get more people to buy the bundle, and ease them into the digital age more and more that way. I preordered the bundle as well because of it, with the hope that I'll later be able to find the game physically at the price difference of MKW in bundle and current physical pricing. Or just waiting for an eventual version with all eventual DLC on cart.

Either way, I'm sure the game is good fun, despite the price tag, and honestly I'd rather focus more on that right now. The price has had its time in the spotlight, and much as it sucks, they seem to be sticking to their guns, especially with how things seem to be going very well for them in terms of preorders. No reason for them to back down on it with that in mind. We're just gonna have to live with it. Unless, despite pre-orders selling out, the system will still fail.

Re: Talking Point: Will You Be Buying Any Game-Key Card Switch 2 Games?

Yosher

"Never say never" because I may come across a good deal of some, but it'll have to be a REALLY good deal for me to get these atrocious things. Like 10 bucks maximum. I did the same with the code in a box so far and I've only purchased one of those so far for just a few bucks.

But I definitely do not plan to get any. As far as I'm concerned, this whole concept needs to die ASAP.

Re: Video: Nintendo Shares More Footage Of F-Zero GX For Switch Online

Yosher

Looking forward to torturing myself again with this game! I pretty much 100%'d the game back then, the only thing I never managed to beat was the staff ghosts. I fully cleared story mode and got gold on all cups, though it was always tough as nails and absolutely was not an easy thing to do.

But I'll try to do it again!

Re: PSA: Redownloading Switch eShop Games Has Now Changed With Latest Update

Yosher

I like this change. One thing that I feel they could do though, is allow us to download games that are on physical carts, getting them as (temporary) virtual game cards that way. They could do this in a way that the cart itself simply can't boot up the game anymore until either an X amount of time has passed, or until the "key" is returned into the cartridge. THAT'S how game key cards should function.

This would also be a good way to lend out your physical games over the internet.

Re: Talking Point: Which Nintendo Series Are You Most Excited To See Return On Switch 2?

Yosher

@pikachupikachup I've played both Splatoon 1 and 2. I've participated in every single Splatfest. In Splatoon 1 I grinded out every single piece of gear to have their abilities unlocked. In both games I unlocked every piece of gear and got all ability slots on all the gear.

Neither of them felt even close to the levering of grinding necessary to get everything in Splatoon 3. The catalog forces you to play regularly if you want to get everything. Or just have a few very grindy days. Getting stars on weapons is also very grindy, but not as necessary aside from getting that one ticket for the first star.

But then there's the real meat and potatoes of the grinding: salmon run. To get any with while amount of scales to purchase anything from its shop, you're expected to grind SO, SO, SO MUCH, and this is the real kicker that got me tired of the series for now. Salmon Run was my favorite mode by a good margin (because I prefer pve over pvp), but they made it feel more punishing than rewarding if it happened to be your favorite mode. I put so, so many hours into this mode, and I still only have a fraction of everything in that shop. Yes I wanted to complete it, but that same tiredness of the series has made me say heck no to that.

Of course there's also the whole banner thing. Getting every banner, title, and badge takes so much time, but I've just given up on it. And that's why I want them to take their time on Splatoon 4, to give us more incentive to keep playing without it becoming a grind fest.

I love the series still, the world of Splatoon is amazing and I love the lore, the characters, the Splatfests (which is the only reason I boot up Splatoon 3 anymore currently), and especially Grand Fest was amazing. But I just need a break from it for a little while.

Re: Talking Point: Which Nintendo Series Are You Most Excited To See Return On Switch 2?

Why can we only vote on one option?

I used the vote for Yoshi because I do really want to see a new title starring Yoshi, hopefully a 3D one. DK got a second one, Luigi has three, even Wario has one, and so does Peach. I feel it's finally time to give Yoshi one as well, his roles in Mario 64 DS, Mario Sunshine, Mario Galaxy 2 and Mario Odyssey show that he could control VERY fun and VERY well in a 3D environment, and I want a full game out of it.

My second vote would normally be Splatoon, but Splatoon 3 really made me rather tired of the series with how much grinding it made me do. I want that one to take a few years off, honestly.

My actual second one would then be Animal Crossing. New Horizons was cool, but ultimately got too repetitive, so I would like a new one that really adds a lot and finds a way to become much less repetitive. Hopefully giving more ways to utilize all the furniture, or customize it more.

A very close third is F-Zero, though I don't know how likely that is at this point. It's been so long that I've kinda given up hope. I don't really count F-Zero 99 personally, that feels very much like its own thing.

Fourth would be a new Mario 3D game. It's been quite a while since Odyssey now, so I think we're due for a new entry. I'll happily accept this as a Yoshi substitute too especially if Yoshi is also playable here.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch 2 Game-Key Card Release

Yosher

In other words, this is a list of games to avoid!

Which I don't like saying because I really wanted to try some of these games. But I really do not wish to support game key cards. For some of these I'll probably just wait for a digital sale one day and avoid the game key card version like the plague.

So sad to see the Switch 2 launch tarnished by this stuff.

Re: Exclusive: Shin'en Talks 'Fast Fusion' On Switch 2, Reveals First-Look Trailer

Yosher

@smoreon I'm not familiar with Call of Duty enough to comment on that, but at least New Super Mario Bros. lasted only 4 games. We've come out of that NSMB era, now that Wonder is out.

Though I do wonder why some devs have this weird mentality for little to no reason, as well. Makes you wonder if the FAST devs run out of new mechanics to implement, if that will mean that the series will not continue anymore either. I guess for now we can be thankful that they seem to have enough juice in them to consistently make a new release every generation since the WiiWare days!

Re: Exclusive: Shin'en Talks 'Fast Fusion' On Switch 2, Reveals First-Look Trailer

Yosher

"The Fusion mechanic was the main reason we decided to do a new FAST game, because we only wanted to do another one when we would have something really cool and fresh to add."

So basically, they copy F-Zero in this department as well, since Nintendo folks have said a similar thing about F-Zero and that's why we haven't gotten a proper new F-Zero in such a long time.

I appreciate the drive to do new exciting things with games, but some developers really need to embrace the idea that more of the same is not always a bad thing. All the FAST games so far have been really cool, and that's not just because they kept coming up with cool new gameplay ideas, but because the core gameplay is just really solid as it is.

That said, I'm definitely picking this game up at launch. Will absolutely be playing this, Mario Kart World, and F-Zero in that launch weekend!

Re: Feature: 27 GameCube Games We'd Love To See On Nintendo Switch 2 NSO

Yosher

As far as Nintendo Puzzle League is concerned, or at least the Panel de Pon part of it. It's not like they haven't already released the SNES version of that game, particularly the Japanese variant, on the Western app as well, completely ignoring the Tetris Attack variant.

They could also easily just edit the English version(s) of the games that do exist with the Tetris Attack name and just, name it Panel de Pon or whatever. It's not that hard. They won't do it, but it's not that hard.
