Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (12th April)

Wisestfool

Kicked off the weekend by completing The Legend of Link: Echoes of Wisdom! The final battle was interesting to say the least without getting into spoilers. I do like how after fans have been clamoring for Zelda to take the lead role, Nintendo has responded with not one but two straight games with her as the leading lady (HW:Age of Imprisonment being the 2nd).

The main focus now turns to Splatoon 3 and its SpringFest. Repping Team Night, so Big Man’s streak is doomed to end. Managed to get my 21st weapon to 4 stars, so it’s on to weapon #22.

Finally reached December 2021 on my island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Down to only 3 cooking recipes missing after Turkey Day- still have around 60 DIY recipes to collect however. Dug up my gyroid farm and after collecting around 150 of them, I am still missing 1 type. Bit of a bummer.

The quest for 100% in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble continues. Currently at 94% on stage missions with 16/20 worlds done. Although I finally passed on one mission in one world, it may be beyond my skill level.

But now that Zelda is finished, I can jumped back into my Year of Visual Novels (likely after the weekend).

Re: Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road Finally Has Release Date, Out On Switch 2 Day One

Wisestfool

I had fun with the first Inazuma Eleven that released out West, but didn’t stick with it to finish it. $70 is steep, but not unreasonable given the amount of content in the game that shapes itself to be forever game. But with the sheer amount of customization in it, I doubt I would enjoy online play. I expect I would either face min-maxers with players that completely outclass my own or I would be the min-maxer and roll over casual players.

And I really dislike the main character’s Raggedy Andy with aqua hair design. No physical is a shame and I disagree that the online cross-play nature of the game necessitates it.

Re: Talking Point: Does Switch 2 Have Nintendo's Best Launch Line-Up Ever?

Wisestfool

Well this article is great proof that one should never buy a console at launch! All of these lineups are pretty blah.

The only consoles I have bought at launch were the GCN and GBA. So I went with Gamecube. Rogue Squadron and Monkey Ball are absolutely stellar. I was not impressed with Luigi’s Mansion. Too short and not challenging. I have fond memories of Batman: Vengeance but unsure if that’s mainly due to my love of Batman: TAS.

Re: It's Official, Switch 2 Joy-Con Will Not Feature Hall Effect Sticks

Wisestfool

@Jordium_Z Drifting is definitely an issue with pro controllers. I have two pro controllers and both have succumbed to drifting. I sent in one to get repaired for it (and since it wasn’t a joycon, it doesn’t qualify for a free repair…). I’ve been waiting on NS2 compatibility news before getting the 2nd one fixed, which I’ll likely do soon since they’ll work with the NS2 (even though I won’t be getting one anytime soon, if ever).

Congrats on your luck, but it may only be a matter of time.

Re: The Switch 2 Won't Have Achievements Or eShop Music

Wisestfool

Nintendo obviously understands they’ll never match the supremacy of the Wii Shop Channel’s Main Theme and any subsequent eShop music would rightfully get blasted for being subpar.

But since it is included in the Nintendo Music app, all is gravy. Just play the theme via your phone as you browse the eShop. With the Extend Music feature, it can even act as an Alarmo!

Re: Did Donkey Kong Bananza Key Art Accidentally Leak A Big Surprise?

As soon as I saw Pauline’s position on DK’s back, I figured it meant she is the purple rock DK is carrying around… I didn’t even notice the bracelet until reading the comments. Sucks if that was a late game reveal, but I doubt it. The shot in the trailer where DK lifts the rock in his hands is likely part of the opening that sets up the end goal of the game. Still a mild spoiler that the trailers had avoided up to this point.

And yeah I think it’s Pauline. DK had his look refreshed, same for her.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has retaken precedence as I work to close out the year 2021 on my island. Hoping it rains sometime soon because I filled up my field with gyroid fragments (about two grids worth) and will be digging them up the next time I get the belongings improve fortune. Once Turkey Day hits later this week, I will be down to just a couple of cooking recipes missing. After gyroids, it’s on to fossils. I stopped getting fossils assessed once I got them all, but now want to clear the Nook Mile reward (154 short).

The Legend of Link: Echoes of Wisdom is the main game I am playing when I can get away from ACNH. My Zelda playstyle is very slow and deliberate. Clear as many side quests as I can find before working on the main quest, type deal. Going by the number of hearts, I am about 3/4 done.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble gets daily love even though I no longer need to play daily. Almost at 90% on stage missions, but there a very few missions left that I would say are easy. I have another four months before I claim every seasonal reward and my time with AiAi & Co comes to a close.

Still trying to find my bearings in Crystalis. And may try to clear another Grand Prix in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Re: Opinion: No One Is Talking About The Switch 2's Best Feature

Wisestfool

You are wild about HD rumble in the NS2, likely because you turned it off on your NS1. I will never forget the time Oxenfree sent a chill down my entire body thanks to an HD rumble enhanced jump scare. But fair warning, that was early in the NS1’s life cycle. I fear I am now desensitized to the rumble today and the same will happen with the NS2.

Re: Select EU Retailers Are Abandoning Nintendo's Suggested Retail Price For Switch 2 Games

Wisestfool

@sevex I still remember the days of my youth when checkout line candy bars were a quarter each… I stopped looking at the checkout candy once I saw they were two whole freaking dollars!

That’s the thing with time (and inflation) the price of everything goes up. So as long as Nintendo stayed in business, it was logical that they would one day release a $1000 console. The real question is whether our wages earned have rose at the same pace…

As to your question about if NoA is behind this- they were definitely included in the discussion, but ultimately the higher ups in Japan had the final say. NoA is mostly a marketing arm of Nintendo and takes their lead from Japan. They had input, but NoJ set the price.

Re: Select EU Retailers Are Abandoning Nintendo's Suggested Retail Price For Switch 2 Games

Wisestfool

I’m surprised no mention of the NS2 requiring Express SD cards gets mentioned when discussing the increased MSRP for physical games. I am sure that decision is the main factor for the price hike by Nintendo. Over time the costs of those cards “should” go down (present political choices however may derail that), so I feel there’s a good chance later in the NS2’s lifecycle that Nintendo revives their Player’s Choice line.

As for these retailers cutting into the MSRP on Day 1, I am curious how much they are eating into their profit margins. Nintendo is going to get their cut, and larger businesses can handle selling select items for a loss… but I don’t see how it is sound business to do that for an entire lineup.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Priced At $449.99 For The Base Console

Wisestfool

@Arawn93 Nintendo has made its brand on being the family friendly budget conscious affordable console. The gaming public is also used to comparing Nintendo hardware to last gen tech. So it won’t surprise me if the general perception is that Nintendo is charging PS5 prices for PS4 specs.

It will be interesting to see if Nintendo pricing out a sizable portion of their user base will be made up by the extra premium they are charging the die hards. As for myself, my backlog is about to slim down considerably. Maybe I can grab a S2 on clearance after the S3 is released.

Re: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment Confirmed For Nintendo Switch 2

Wisestfool

@Polvasti There are still dark aspects to the Imprisoning War. The trailer does reference Sonia’s assassination and doesn’t show her in battle, but my first fear is that she’ll be playable. And I feel Rauru’s sacrifice is ripe for getting changed along with Zelda’s ultimate transformation. And of course there’s always a chance Nintendo shoehorns Link into the game somehow. Plenty ways for Nintendo to go offscript.

Re: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment Confirmed For Nintendo Switch 2

Wisestfool

The alternate take in AoC ruined it for me. They could’ve easily followed the events described in BotW and it would have been EPIC. It still lives rent free in my head:

Defense of Fort Hateno stage would have been an infinite wave of Guardians with increasing difficulty. Player is locked onto Link as their selection and includes a counter tracking how many Guardians are defeated before Link falls. Online rankings to compare your score against others. Could’ve been the most replayed stage of the game. It would not have shocked me if some dedicated players maxed out the counter.

Next stage- Grand Plateau. Link can no longer be selected, Awakened Zelda/King Rhoam default choices. Basic Warriors stage with the goal of securing the Shrine of Resurrection and defending it. End Cutscene- Link is placed in the Shrine, King Rhoam remains to guard over him. Zelda orders the Champions (and their out of time pairs) to their Divine Beasts to open a passage for her and Impa to Ganon.

Final Stage- Awakened Zelda and Impa only. Strict time limit to reach Ganon, failure results in death of Champions cutscene where the Ganonblights resurrect while their focus is on the Hyrule Castle. Reaching Ganon still triggers the cutscene of their sacrifice (time travelers return to their time here). Fight with Calamity Ganon revolves around Zelda setting up sealing points, while Impa provides defense. Final cutscene- Zelda traps Ganon in her seal, but it is imperfect without the Master Sword. As Ganon rages inside, Calamity leaks out. Zelda instructs Impa that she had a vision that Link will one day recover from his wounds and Impa must stay alive to guide him once he does. Then she drives the seal with Ganon and herself into the Depths hoping to contain him until Link returns. But apparently showing the fall of Link or the Champions’ ultimate sacrifice was a bridge too far for Nintendo… can’t have a dark ending now!

I’ve played every main Zelda game and most of the spinoffs, and yeah I will eventually play Age of Imprisonment. But my hopes for the game to remain true to TotK lore is decidedly low. I just do not think Nintendo has the (secret) stones to allow a dark ending. It goes against their very core to not allow the player to ultimately save the day.

Re: The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller - All New Features Revealed

Wisestfool

@B_Lindz If you are inclined to open up your controller, there’s a relatively easy fix for the D-pad. Cut transparent (‘scotch’) tape into tiny squares and affix them to the outer half of the four contact points on the circuit board for the D-pad.

It seemed counterintuitive to me, but it worked. I barely ever noticed a wrong input register after I added the tape, whereas mishits were all too common before.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Direct April 2025 - Every Announcement, Game Reveal & Trailer

Wisestfool

The Mario Kart reveal back in Feb didn’t impress me much, mostly because I didn’t believe the series had much left to offer after MK8 Deluxe. But I love the ideas put forth in MK World.

DK Bananza was maybe the biggest highlight. Not sure about the actual game, I was mostly loving the expressiveness of his new design.

Kinda glad none of the S2 Editions wowed me. MP4 getting mouse functionality was the only one that was an actual improvement over the base game.

And the haphazard pricing structure really needs to be cleaned up. But I wasn’t planning on being a Day1 adopter so I will wait it out, hoping for cooler sales to prevail.

Re: Switch 2 Pre-Orders Expected To Sell Out "Day One" Due To Limited Unit Allocation

Wisestfool

Will I be preordering day 1? Hell no. I am expecting dire financial pain in the coming months since my country decided to send a convict back to the White House instead of the Big House where he belongs. I have plenty of games on my backlog to tide me over and I hope to reward my patience with Zelda Switch 2 Special Edition that will inevitably release later in its lifecycle. Assuming of course I am able to afford one after the criminals in power are finished taking a chainsaw to the world’s economy.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (29th March)

A recurring migraine along with the start of baseball season have taken their toll on my allotted gaming time. The Legend of Link: Echoes of Wisdom has taken the biggest hit as I haven’t touched it since clearing the map. My apologies Hyrule, please excuse the princess.

I could have returned to it yesterday, but I needed to finish a vacation home for Coco in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Technically her home isn’t complete as I am still in the process of collecting gyroids. But once that’s done, all I need to do is add a second floor to create her gyroid showroom.

The good news this week was from Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble. I finally pulled the last item out of the lottery and now no longer need to play everyday. I probably will keep playing daily as it allows me to clear the biweekly seasonal rewards and I am still chipping away at the stage missions. Now have cleared all missions on 14 of 20 worlds, sitting at 88% overall.

Crystalis on the NES NSO app got a little surprise love last night. Still completely stuck with no idea where to go or even where I have been as this was the first time I have played my save file since the pandemic was in full swing. It’s like learning how to ride a bicycle all over again.

Re: Rhythm Heaven Groove Announced For Switch, Launching 2026

Wisestfool

I am surprised at the hate towards the 2026 release date, I personally am stoked Nintendo will still be supporting the OG Switch into its NINTH year!!!

As for Rhythm Heaven, I adore the series, but am terrible with the games. Reminds me that I should watch a Let’s Play of Elite Beat Agents since that is the only way I will see the end.
