Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting The Switch 2 Upgrade For Super Mario Bros. Wonder?

Whoever

I feel like I'd need to convince myself to do it, might need to wait for word of mouth on the Toad challenges. Rosalina is tempting but I'm never going to touch the multiplayer stuff so that makes it a tough sell.

Doesn't really help I'm not crazy about Wonder to begin with? It's fun, but the only 2D Mario games I'd definitely rank it over are Lost Levels and NSMB2, feel like the emphasis on spectacle over platforming makes it not hold up super great on repeat playthroughs.

Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd January (North America)

@Kazman2007 Honestly Bug Fables kind of scared me away from trying any other Paper Mario-likes. As hyped up as that one was I just could not get into it at all, it felt like a hollow imitation walking around in a Paper Mario skin suit.

@X68000 Eh, Nintendo likes to do random housekeeping in the weeks leading up to Directs sometimes. I could see a year later update to a remaster that sold pretty well but didn't set the world on fire being something that they're like, "We don't need to devote runtime to this," since dropping this update like this has people talking about the game again but it'd probably be buried by talk on the Mario Wonder DLC or Fire Emblem or whatever new they announce otherwise.

Not getting anything for now but did go ahead and preorder the FF7 Remake.

Animal Crossing update I considered but I decided, "Last time they put out a big update I returned to it for a week before dropping it again, no sense in bothering." I played New Horizons every day for over a year when it came out but I think I've gotten all the mileage out of it I'm ever going to.

Re: Random: Nintendo Apparently Wasn't Happy About Sonic's Foot Being In Front Of Mario's Foot

Whoever

@RoboCube I think kind of the key problems with doing a Mario & Sonic platformer crossover are that 1), Mario doing high-speed gimmick levels is already a fairly common thing so it wouldn't really feel like Sonic was actually bringing anything to the table, and 2), the expectations that would be riding on it would kind of demand Nintendo themselves making it except there probably isn't much time or incentive for them to do that.

Re: Video: Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch 2 & Switch)

Whoever

i imagine it'll be a problem that levels out (though I'd argue to this day it still really hasn't for the PS5 so maybe not) but I definitely agree that the Switch 2 feels more like a new model of Switch than a distinct thing. Probably doesn't really help that I don't think there's yet been an exclusive for it that feels worth a new console to play and the only potential one even announced at the moment is Fortune's Weave. ... And really after Engage I'm hesitant to get all that excited for it.

Re: Opinion: I'm Happy amiibo Survived The Console Jump, But These Unlocks Are Getting Silly

Think the best case of how to balance them I've seen is Xenoblade 3, where they pretty much entirely unlock cosmetic stuff, but it's 1), neat stuff that you'd have reason to want, and 2), all of it can be unlocked without them but it's all late or post-game stuff.

TotK also handled it decently, making the actually good unlockables also able to be gotten in-game for free while only putting something more minor behind the paywall.

Re: GameStop Kicks Off 2026 By Reportedly Shutting "Hundreds" Of Stores

Whoever

I moved a few months ago and the one near where I lived was one of the ones that closed, so that sucks. And where I moved in there's a mall nearby that for a long time had a Gamestop (and used to have two) but it closed up a few months ago.

There is still one not too far away, but still, it sucks when people lose work.

Re: More Switch Games Have Received Switch 2 Compatibility Updates

Whoever

@garfreek Honestly the biggest problems with BDSP are that they chose to make it a faithful remake of a pair of games that was deeply flawed to begin with and they didn't really have the dev time to properly bug test it. It's really not bad at all - did a second run through of it last year - but it feels like the exact same thing but based on Platinum instead would on its own be significantly better.

Re: Nintendo Switch 2025 'Year In Review' Is Available Now

Whoever

My top three games were most to least Hundred Line, Persona 3 Reload, and Pokemon Scarlet. By month my most played was...

January - Donkey Kong Country Returns
February - Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
March - Pokemon Scarlet
April - The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy
May - The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy
June - Pokemon Scarlet
July - Donkey Kong Bananza (though doesn't really count, friend was playing it on my profile)
August - Pokemon Scarlet
September - Shuten Order
October - Persona 3 Reload
November - Persona 3 Reload
December - Fitness Boxing 3

Re: Pokémon Developer Game Freak To Reveal More About 'Beast Of Reincarnation' Later This Month

Whoever

Really very firmly not my thing, though hope it turns out well for folks who are interested.

As for Mega Dimension, I kind of put up with a lot of compounding annoyances until I hit the special scans and that was the point where I got completely fed up and deleted the game. Been about a month since I've touched it and not sure I'll do so again any time soon, it's a case where I think having the DLC actually lowers the quality of the overall product.
