Re: Random: Smash Bros. Fans React To Geno's Return As A Mii Fighter Costume

Specters

@AnnoyingFrenzy Mallow has a far better story, actually has a personality and depth. Might not be the most useful party member once Peach joins but his story is really the heart of the story besides the standard JRPG save the world.
Geno has no character and is extremely wooden (sorry had to), he has no real development, his style is like a keebler elf with a gun, but I will give you if you can get the timing down he's the best party member.
I wouldn't want either of them in Smash though. Think we have the two most important Square characters now and representation of one of the best RPGs, Dragon Quest XI.

Re: Monster Hunter Movie's Chinese Premiere Reportedly Cancelled Due To Racist Joke

Specters

@Clyde_Radcliffe Oh but you are complaining, in fact you've been arguing over several posts that it is part of the character and integral to the development of the character and story to include this childish racist comment. Yet you can't explain how it is or why it is.
Again racist or not (it is racist), this is just bad writing and should have been cut regardless. You've probably put more thought into defending it than the writers put into any scene in this movie.

Re: Monster Hunter Movie's Chinese Premiere Reportedly Cancelled Due To Racist Joke

Specters

@Clyde_Radcliffe you haven't watched the movie you don't know what the character motivation is (and I feel bad for you if you think that is great story writing). But from the clip it literally adds nothing to the scene other than cringe as I said.

Literally okaying racism (no matter how minor you think it is) and it's just bad writing. It is pure schlock.

Anyways really worry for this site's community and culture.

Re: Feature: So, What Happened To Super Mario Galaxy 2?

Specters

The wishful thinking I have is that it is a secret unlockable if you beat all three or just beating Mario Galaxy unlocks it. That would be shocking and amazing.

But I think the reality is probably they just didn't have it in time or didn't plan for it to be in the collection.

Honestly I'm not bothered I liked Galaxy 1 more (I 200% it) and I never bothered to finish Galaxy 2.

I'm more excited to finally play Sunshine. It's the only Mario game I haven't played.

Re: Spiritfarer Was Thunder Lotus' "Most Ambitious Launch" Ever, And There's More Work To Be Done

Specters

Love the game. Had some truly emotional moments that brought me to tears. I believe I'm about 3/4 the way through and still loving it. Really recommend it to anyone.
But I have to say that the consistent crashes have been truly disheartening. Especially one that happened at one of the most emotional scenes and then restarted me back on the last island I visited which was like 10 minutes of progress but so much had happened that it took away from the moment. Now often after important events or nearing important events I just save and quit to make sure, but I really shouldn't have to do that.

Re: Feature: All The Paper Mario Games, Ranked By You

Specters

TOK is much better than this list suggests. As I've see with many people in the comments didn't even play it, but had opinions on it based on what other people said (who most likely didn't play it as well).

Just finished it the other day, for me it is just behind TTYD. TTYD's unique characters, party mechanics, and unique partner uses throughout the story sets it above. But serious Bobby's story line is better than pretty much all the partner's stories in TTYD. Also the two last partners were fun and had lots of funny dialogue. Boss battles all were interesting and unique and I actually had to think about them unlike any battle in TTYD.

Also for people to put the original Paper Mario up there I would say replay it. It's okay and sets up a lot of the mechanics/scenarios for TTYD and that's probably the best thing it did. Otherwise they're too closely related.

Re: Still Not Convinced On Paper Mario: The Origami King? This Accolades Trailer Might Do The Trick

Specters

Contrary to the popular opinion, I actually really like it so far. I'm on the third area and some pretty funny things have happened, some very dark things happened, and some just odd things have happened aka a Paper Mario game.

I do actually like the battle system, it is quick and engaging. I can see if they do a sequel to this they can really expand this system out in a couple easy ways.
1. Experience/leveling system. Without the leveling tied to battles (it's actually tied to explorations which has it's own positives) I rarely get into a fight twice once I clear an area, just avoiding them. But when I think back to TTYD I rarely got into many fights outside of the current chapter area because it gave such little experience that it would be such a grind to get even 1 level so I would end up avoiding them.
2. Partner turns with direct control. Their different attacks can hit different areas on the board compared to Mario's hammer, jump, and items.
3. More boss battles. They're seriously the best part of the battle system and just want more like that.
4. Enemy variety taking up more spaces/shapes on the board. Don't know if that's going to happen but hasn't yet and I can see that adding a challenge to the puzzle aspect.
5. Take away turns on the puzzle and just have a shorter time limit. This way players can position enemies as they see fit and with the other changes will make it easier to design them.

All and all so far for me it's just behind TTYD because I do miss the party aspect with partners having an active role in the battles. But story-wise I've felt more for Bobby's story than 90% of the partners in TTYD.

And anyone complaining about it not being TTYD (most complaints I see are that it's not a straight forward RPG) then there are a ton of Mario & Luigi games waiting for you (one even with Paper Mario). But going through these comments you can see the people who have played the game and who haven't.

Re: Another Crusade Wants To Be Super Mario RPG's Spiritual Successor

Specters

This is such a low goal it already has a publisher and they're just gauging interest or can be a lost project easily once development cost go past like 3 months.

Anyways not interested in this at all. The art style is so basic and the story looks barren that it doesn't look to make up for a battle system I like.

Re: Round Up: The Paper Mario: The Origami King Reviews Are In

Specters

Love how the reviews are mostly good to great and people are like "well looks like I'll have to wait for a GOOD Paper Mario game". So silly.
I think people need to realize that they took Paper Mario in a different direction from TTYD doesn't mean it's bad.
The Mario and Luigi series is more of a continuation of that style of gameplay. Several games in that series waiting for anyone to play them.

Re: Feature: It's Time To Lay Down Your ARMS

Specters

Was a super fun game and I think a sequel can really refine the mechanics as well as possibly add in a real campaign story mode. Also loved the crazy party modes they added so more of that at the lunch of a sequel would be great.

Re: Soapbox: Why Sword And Shield's Pokémon Purge Will Benefit Everyone

Specters

@Yorumi they used X/Y models because all the games afterwards were for the 3DS.. they're the same engine. This is clearly a new engine which means models aren't 1-1, again as I said they're based on the old animations and models but there is still work to be done to get them working.
You think publishers hire porting companies to just click a button when porting games from one console to the next? Not to mention a new engine with HD graphics.
You can't just drag and drop 240p models and have them look the same as 1080p models with no extra work.

Re: Soapbox: Why Sword And Shield's Pokémon Purge Will Benefit Everyone

Specters

FYI to everyone "Gotta Catch 'em All" slogan hasn't been the slogan since X&Y, they knew back then it was unsustainable.
For me not this whole 'controversy' isn't a huge deal, and for 99% of players this isn't even an issue because they don't even use this feature. It's just the hardcore of the hardcore that are upset and being very vocal. I've played all the games and stopped using this feature at Black & White.
I appreciate that they're being open and honest about the complications they full admit is their own doing. Further they could always add it in later as well that's an option. As for now it looks like they're most likely going to have the first 151 plus all the new ones from this region. My guess would be they'll have all the starters and legendary throughout the series. If they're real smart they'll include all the top played competitive Pokemon to settle down the nay-sayers. But if they don't, oh well. @iLikeUrAttitude Modeling, Animation, and engines don't just automatically transfer over. They can base it off the old animations but there is still work to remake them in the new engine (the 3DS is not the same as the Switch just so you know). Now that the Pokemon are out in the world they have to do brand new animations ideal poses and walk cycles, plus battle animations for all moves and test all those. Think to most the games you play there aren't a huge variety of character models that require unique animations.
Example: Dragon's Dogma has about 18 characters to animate for; Harpies, birds, Griffon, Chimera, Dragons, Humans, deers, goblins (3 versions), Cyclops, Trolls, Beholders, rabbits, undead (3 versions), and wolves (probably more but I can't think off the top of my head), that took years to make.
Now think 900+ Pokemon to animate and battle animations add another few thousand variations to animate then testing all that. It does get very unreasonable if you want a product anytime soon. Sure they could have waited probably another 2 years to get all that done for a feature less and 1% of players use, but why.
And if you really value this above all then just stick to Ultra Sun and Moon. Pull a Melee and stick in the past. It's okay.

Re: There's Trouble In Paradise As Nintendo Adds Loot Boxes To Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp

Specters

1. it's free, so microtransactions are where the money comes from. Super Mario Run pay once for a complete game failed on the market compared to Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem.
2. They give out leaf tickets like candy. I have about 1500 and that is easily with spending about 500 on random things. All of those left tickets were free from log in bonuses, to doing requests, etc.
3. Don't buy them if you don't want to. Not like there are already hundreds of things you can make and decorate all free without spending a single dime.

Re: Black Panther Director Is A Big Fan Of Nintendo Switch

Specters

I, for one, very much liked the link and appreciate this little snippet of info that took me all of 20 seconds to read and 2.49 minutes to watch the video. Black Panther was awesome so this just adds to the awesomeness. I've never seen Coogler in interviews but from this small clip he seems very down to earth and big plus is he's into cool games and books. I also need to get into Altered Carbon.

Re: Review: Night In The Woods (Switch eShop)

Specters

Definitely an amazing game that speaks to the degradation of America's rust belt towns. The hopelessness in the job market, low wages, stagnant economy, the terrible healthcare insurance set up in America, Depression and anexity, generational differences, perceptions, and expectations, etc. even throw in some supernatural stuff (that plays into all of the above) and it really is a great story. While some might not be able to connect with the characters, I personally felt this really represents a good chunk of life that is actually going on right now so for me it was easy to identify with multiple characters even when they were doing things I didn’t agree with. I had several literal laugh out loud moments and basically had a grin on the whole time playing. Mae’s drawing are some of the funniest things in the game. And the soundtrack is truly amazing.
Already played on the PC but enjoying another run through on the Switch right now.

Re: Dark Souls: Remastered Won’t Feature Cross-Platform Play

Specters

Buying purely to play portably but all the details that have come out screams that this is a bare bones remaster, no new assets no fixes to areas (bed of chaos anyone) and no gameplay fixes (maybe they can fix some of the covenants). Just up rezing textures, 6 player online and 60 FPS for all versions except the switch and hopefully they didn’t assign things to the frame rate like durability like in dark souls 2 pc version.

Re: Indie Dev Talks About Having Switch Proposals Turned Down By Nintendo Five Times

Specters

I don't know if he's talking about getting approved to be on the eShop, which would be really weird since they have a ton of indies, good and bad, coming through each week or if he's talking about being a part of their Nindies program/featured on a direct etc.
For all we know they could have filled out a form wrong which caused they to be denied. Anyways I've heard from several people that VA-11 HALL-A is an awesome game so I hope it gets on the Switch. But he's not helping himself by bad mouthing Nintendo, there must be a better way to air his grievances.
