Starting today, Fortnite has issued a bunch of "Wakanda Forever Challenges" to all players, and the prize is the badass Wakanda Forever emote - a tribute to the actor who played the Wakandan King, Chadwick Boseman, who died earlier this year.
Players who complete the challenges before January 12th will receive the emote for free. Fortnite Insider has the scoop on what the challenges will involve:
- Play Matches (10)
- Outlast Opponents (500)
- Play Duo or Squad Matches (5)
The emote might not be the only Black Panther-related goodie that Fortnite players receive. In a cryptic emoji tweet, the Fortnite Twitter account hinted at what could be the addition of some new characters, including a black cat:
Which characters do you think these emojis correspond to? Let us know in the comments below!

He will be missed.
It’s sad thinking how many incredible roles he would have gone on to play. He’s absolutely fantastic in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
@nessisonett
"Black Bottom"
Is that what I think it means or is my head in the gutter again?
RIP Mr. Boseman.
@Jakiboy It’s a play from The Pittsburgh Cycle. Denzel Washington’s working to get August Wilson the same credit given to Arthur Miller and Tennessee Williams in terms of 20th century American playwrights.
@nessisonett
Ah, okay thanks. So it's not "bottom" in gay terms...
RIP king of Wakanda.
(@Nookingtons's Comment Now Deleted) That's just disgusting.
@Jakiboy The Black Bottom is a dance from the 1920s, done by like flappers and stuff. Started among African Americans and then, as is always the case, spread among mainstream white American culture. It then was used in the title of one of the original blues singers Ma Rainey’s song ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’, which lent its name to the biographic play, which has now been adapted with Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman in his final role.
@Nookingtons
OlD nEwS. Better late than never.
Perhaps I treated you too harshly
I know him only for his role as the Black Panther but he was damn charismatic!
Wakanda foreva!
I really don’t appreciate it. Really. Commercial leverage 🙅
@AndyC_MK84 think you're thinking about it too hard. You even said it yourself it's a catchphrase to his most popular character and one of the most popular characters in the world. Think it's pretty self explanatory why people would connect the character and him so closely.
Marketing ploy. Capitalizing on his death. Shameless. Effective but shameless.
@nessisonett OMG I just saw Ma Rainey's Black Bottom this weekend!!!
You could see how sick Chad was. He looked so skinny compared to his other roles... Very sad to see 💯
Great movie though. He definitely stole the show from Viola Davis (who was also very good).
@AndyC_MK84 It’s because Black Panther is considered a cultural milestone for cinema. It’s also Chadwick Boseman’s most iconic role. It’s like how Friend like Me is credited to Robin Williams.
@Mortenb You know the point of the movie was that that was wrong and hurts people in the long run right?
@Mortenb
Not really.
Rest in power, King. Wakanda forever!
@AndyC_MK84 congrats mate! You're that guy!
Delete that.
@Heavyarms55 unlike this comment, amiright?
Except the effective part.
@AndyC_MK84 good god dude. Take a powder. Text someone.
@AndyC_MK84 If someone tells you, "these are not the droids you're looking for", who do you think of: Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan Kenobi, or George Lucas who wrote the line and directed the film?
@HatosBlack Not sure what you mean but okay sure.
@Nookingtons Ah yes, such a smart move to disrespect a deceased person and claim you did it for the lulz!!! 🤪 Totally didn’t make a you-know-what out of yourself.
As for those who think this skin is a marketing ploy, I have to disagree... to some extent. I feel like it would've been worse of Epic to release the skin a few days after his death, even though it would've fit the MARVEL battle pass perfectly. Instead, they waited several months, gave him an in-game tribute, and now they're dropping the skin. They're not making money off of his death, it's now just an option to buy the skin and rep him, or not. That's how I see it, at least.
@AndyC_MK84 , @Heavyarms55 , @Friscobay
@brandonbwii I didn't. Thanks. I just assumed, being called black panther it alluded to that organisation, and being a country by and for people of an ethnicity, that it would remain so, and that saying "wakanda forever", would be a sign of the virtues of such a nation. Haven't seen it actually. So, what happens?
@AndyC_MK84 I don’t think your initial post was offensive, nor do I think @HatosBlack ‘s was offensive enough to get that upset over!
@DAHstroy yep, you don’t have to own and play the actual product in order to use its emotes. Pleeeeeease.
@Mortenb Theres actually a very interesting history regarding the origins of the Black Panther name. The party and the comic books was just coincidental. There was even a stint where he changed his name to separate himself from the actions of the party within the story itself.
