The 3DS has had its fair share of beat ‘em ups over the years, but one of the standout releases was found in Code Of Princess, a spiritual successor to Treasure’s Guardian Heroes. Bringing high intensity action and a bizarre and humorous plot, it was a memorable release that we quite liked when we originally reviewed it. A few months ago, a re-release called Code of Princess EX was revealed to be Switch bound sometime this summer, and now its release date has just been confirmed for the West.
Code of Princess EX will launch on 31 July in both North America and Europe this year, this time being publsihed by Nicalis instead of Atlus. Boasting local co-op, HD graphics in 60 FPS, and better A.I., this looks to be the definitive version of the game. And those of you that prefer physical will be delighted to hear that the retail edition will have a color instruction manual and a 3-inch audio CD with the soundtrack.

I've got mine pre ordered already!!!
I missed this on 3DS, definitely interested in this version. Atlus was pretty much my favorite publisher of 3DS games, and Nicalis seem to be occupying the same niche on Switch.
60 FPS!! Aside from it's frame rate issues, the 3DS game was amazing fun. I will double dip.
This has local coop right?
What did she do that resulted in being put on a rack and having her torso elongated so much? It must have been terrible for her.
@VinnieMii which is why the switch version is 60fps meaning there will be probably no frame rate issues considering the fact that the 3ds version wasnt 60fps
Triple dipping! So happy this is physical. For those that loved Guardian Heroes, this is your game.
The 3DS version was forever on sale.
Looks good, but may hold out for the inevitable always on sale.
Is it some kind of requirement for them to make every female character wearing as little as possible?
Already have the special edition on 3DS that came with CD and art book. Don't really need this again unless it adds new playable characters and added storyline content.
Nice. I have this digitally on 3DS, so it'll be nice to have a physical copy + some bonus goodies on Switch.
This looks great in HD. Pre-ordered it when it was first announced and glad it's not long until release. This and Fallen Legion should offer some nice 2D gameplay with lovely 2D visuals.
@JayJ Yes. Yes it is.
@JayJ it’s the best she could find in the armory at 3 am.
Already preordered!
Kinda annoyed there's no online as even the 3DS has it. Stop going backwards game dev.
@brandonbwii No, there's going to be online. It's just that it will also have local co-op now.
Code of Princess looks great in HD!
Not a fan of the new box art.
I hope that you will be able to play as other characters in single player modes.
As far as I got, I wasn't able to play with other characters (there wasn't some training mode either. From what I understood only in multiplayer you could try other characters)
Easy double dip for this fan. Love this game
Absolutely Love Code of Princess.🤗
Absolutely Hate the New Box Art. 😵
Oof, right in the wallet. This is shaping up to be one heck of a summer.
Nicalis, meh
@cfgk24
I get the feeling you love the game but hate the new box art.
I thought the game on 3DS was ok, but perhaps a big reason was the framerate being completely awful, running at like 10 FPS. Worse if 3D was turned on lol. Perhaps the smooth 60 FPS would be enough to make the game feel good and fun to play.
Also the story was just flat-out bonkers, and I'm not sure if I mean that in a good or bad way.
That said I do remember enjoying it, so at least there's that.
Never got interested in 3DS version, most probably because in Europe was digital only and with a steep price -due to the fact it actually was a retail game, only in Europe it wasn't-, but now on Switch and depending on the final price I could give it a try. And knowing the characters I might think about getting Blade Strangers, which for now only has Shovel Knight as an appealing character to me.
Guardian Heroes is my favorite Saturn game, I'll have to check this out. July is starting to look as crowded as May and June. RIP wallet.
The 3DS version didn't impress me much. It was fun, but the game didn't have that much to do, and the character roster was so unbalanced that most of the characters you unlocked weren't worth using. The graphics seem much, much improved in this version, but that was never really a big deal for me in the original - if they give us more to do I might pick it up, but it's a pass for me otherwise.
I had an absolutely blast on the 3DS with this. Seriously considering it and that soundtrack is very tempting. Music was so good.
@shaneoh Ooops! 😲
I like this game. Had it on my old 3DS..
@JayJ to my understanding in most rpgs the more legendary the less clothing...
Looks like this version fixes all the issue that made the 3DS version so bad. I skipped that version due to the poor reception. I still play Guardian Heroes to this day. I pre ordered this a couple months ago. Now port the 3DS River City Games with local co-op & Both Project X Zone Games so I can play them all on my TV.
Might pick this up, it looks pretty good.
Now if only we could get Odin Sphere, Dragon's Crown and Muramasa on Switch, that'd be the tits, even greater than the above ones (of course I mean the species of birds :3).

@YouSeemFRAZZLED So it is adDRESSED (sorry...) and used as an ongoing joke? I can be forgiving of extreme fan service if it is used as part of a joke and the game doesn't take itself too seriously.
What else makes this game fun? Apparently there is humor, but I want to know what else people enjoy about this game.
@Moroboshi876 I would like to thank you for making me aware of the existence of Blade Strangers! It looks so awesome, and I know most of the characters!
@RainbowGazelle You're welcome! Glad to see my comment was useful!
Enjoyed on the 3DS, but I'd be more interested in a sequel.
Enjoyed the original, will be double dipping.
Have the original on 3DS but still haven't played it yet. My backlog is getting huge now.
@JayJ Oh come on, not every Jrpg does that.
Hmm. I have the game on 3DS, but i did rather enjoy it so i may go for the double-dip.
Can't wait. Definitely buying. The main character design alone appeals to me, and the Guardian Heroes-inspired gameplay makes it a win.
I'll preorder this tomorrow. July is going to be expensive for me. (I have Octopath Traveler, Pearl & marina Amiibos, and now this game all coming the same month)
@shaneoh The new box art is done by Bengus ( a legendary former Capcom artist) but I do like the original art a bit more as kinu Nishimura is one of my favorite former Capcom artists.
So, will Europe get the physical release on the same day?
I'm a bit concerned because i can't find it on Amazon Germany.
@the_shpydar
id double dip with solange any night of the week
