Update #2: Eiyuden Chronicle has already passed its console stretch goal, but sadly, it doesn't seem like that confirms the game is Switch-bound, as we originally assumed. The Kickstarter page now lists Nintendo's "next-gen" console as a target platform and not Switch.
When we reported on this campaign initially, we were told that Sony and Nintendo consoles were "definitely" in the mix – we just naively assumed the team meant Switch and not Switch 2!
Given that Nintendo hasn't even begun talking about what system will replace the Switch – which is only three-and-a-half years into its life cycle – the assumption that the game will be coming to a future Nintendo console seems like a stretch, but Eiyuden Chronicle won't be finished for at least another two years. The situation is similar to that of fellow crowdfunding success Bloodstained, which raised its funds way back in 2015 and was supposed to come to the Wii U, but ended up being a Switch release.
Update #1: The Kickstarter is live, and the developers are seeking $1 million to unlock the console versions.
Original Story: Tokyo-based Rabbit & Bear Studios has announced that it is creating a spiritual successor to Konami's classic Suikoden series.
The studio – which was founded recently by many of the key creators of the Suikoden franchise – plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign for the game on 27th July, which is entitled Eiyuden Chronicle.
The game is described as "an ode to the classic JRPG genre from the PlayStation era that will feature classic JRPG exploration and battles in high-resolution 2.5D graphics, pixel-based characters, a story of war and friendship, a diverse cast of 100 unique heroes to join the protagonist's endeavour, and a fortress building system to grow their army." A guild system will allow players to change the attributes of their fortress, while battles will be turn-based and feature up to 6 party members.
Here's the plot:
Our story begins in one corner of Allraan, a tapestry of nations with diverse cultures and values.
By dint of sword, and by way of magical objects known as "rune-lenses," the land's history has been shaped by the alliances and aggressions of the humans, beastmen, elves, and desert people who live there.
The Galdean Empire has edged out other nations and discovered a technology that amplifies the rune-lenses' magic. Now, the Empire is scouring the continent for an artefact that will expand their power even further.
It is on one such expedition that Seign Kesling, a young and gifted imperial officer, and Nowa, a boy from a remote village, meet each other and become friends.
However, a twist of fate will soon drag them into the fires of war, and force them both to reexamine everything they believe to be right and true.
The team behind Eiyuden Chronicle includes:
- Yoshitaka Murayama - Scenario Writer/Director (Suikoden I, Suikoden II, The Alliance Alive)
- Junko Kawano - Lead Artist (Suikoden I, IV, Arca Last)
- Osamu Komuta - Director (Suikoden Tierkreis, Suikoden Tactics, Arca Last)
- Junichi Murakami - Producer/Art Director - (Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, OZ)
- Motoi Sakuraba - Composer (Tales Series)
- Michiko Naruke - Composer (Wild Arms Series)
While the game isn't confirmed for Switch yet – or indeed any console format – a stretch goal for Switch will "definitely" be included as part of the campaign, Rabbit & Bear Studios tells us. The release date is expected to be Fall 2022.
Murayama, the project leader of Eiyuden Chronicle, had this to say:
The first thing we decided when our members came together was, ‘It’s about time we made a really interesting game that we ourselves want to make.’ We chose Kickstarter in order to make an interesting game with the players in mind, hold the rights to the planning, world, and story of the game, all while keeping the fun of the project. Please lend us your support in this new challenge of ours! We promise to create something that heeds the call of your voices.
The Kickstarter campaign will run from July 27th to August 28th. Will you be laying down your cash?

Ok, that’s very very cool. Only played the first two but they’re together one of the best connected plots in gaming.
Man those graphics look 😋 👌
Any Suikoden fans here? I tried playing it but it just didn't click for me.
@Kalmaro The first one’s got some weird mechanics but the second one is absolutely incredible. They’re best played right after each other though.
I could not be more into this.
Sounds promising!
@Kalmaro I played Suikoden 2 when it first came out, but after a while it started to really drag on. I ended up getting tired of trying to find all the characters, plus the story wasn’t exactly compelling. I actually found it to fall pretty flat, to be honest!
My advice, if something doesn’t click with you, don’t force yourself to play it.
@nessisonett I'll keep that in mind. A fried tried to get me into th ages ago.
burned out on video game kickstarters, will buy when it is good and it comes to retail
@Incarna I thought so too. More appealing this way.
This looks great!
I don't usually go in kn kickstarters but Sakuraba on board for the soundtrack might be enough to take my money
Oh heel yeah im gonna support and pre-order this when available
If only Konami doesn't suck nowadays I would go for another Suikoden or Vandal Hearts. This one looks like it'll kept that Octopath Traveler style retro feel which is fantastic, can't wait to see how the game turn out.
@TG16_IS_BAE I appreciate the response. I won't force myself to like it, though I do want to enjoy them.
I’ve gone through the series, and outside of 3 and 4 that wasn’t fantastic, the other three are - especially part 2 (an all-timer). I’d jump in on this in a heartbeat. Also, I would like at least Suikoden I and II to be ported.
I've always liked Suikoden games on a concept level, but never finished any of them. I'll keep an eye on this one.
Key team members from Suikoden, The Alliance Alive, Castlevania Aria of Sorrow and Tales? I'm super interested.
Amazing, that looks fantastic.
I joined up to hit the Switch stretch goal for Inkulinati. If this is open to everyone, 100% will help fund it also.
Best news all week. I only played 1 and 2, but they hold such a special place in my heart. Can’t wait for this.
"Eiyuden Chronicle is being developed for PC, with console versions unlocked through crowdfunding stretch goals."
Nice, will definitely be getting this. Suikoden 2 is one of my all time favourite JRPG's.
Anything resembling Octopath is more than welcome to me.
III wwwaaannnttt iiittt. III wwwaaannnttt iiittt.
This is everything I want. Suikoden is my favorite series.
Now this is some unexpected good news!!
Loved Suikoden on the PSone IMO it was a much better game then FF VII yet all you hear when it comes to PS RPGs is FFVII.
I really hope the criticisms from Sony fanboys about Octopath Traveler or Bravely graphics won't hurt the sales of this game. Once again if we want to stop the anti japanese bias in the actual industry we should boycott the company that is forcing it and stop buying Sony products.
Looks like Octopath - which is lovely!
@Incarna
Exactly the same!
When i saw it i was like hey Octopath 🤣 but yeah looks cool.
Sounds very promising, but I should probably play Suidoken before taking the leap. It sometimes sounds like a hit or miss for different people with similar tastes.
Also, composer Motoi Sakuraba!!? Stellar!
@Tasuki Whereas FF7 will win it for me, I absolutely love the first Suikoden and it has a special place in my heart. In fact, I prefer the Suikoden franchise as a whole over FF.
I understand that there's plenty of examples of good crowdfunded games, but my mind can't help but wander to Mighty No. 9 or, even worse, Unsung Story. Tell me how as consumers we demonize pre-orders, yet are willing to risk actually losing money by supporting crowdfunding projects. I'm not sure what the number is of successful high profile crowdfunding projects to unsuccessful, but it definitely feels like there are more failures than successes.
I'm going to show my nerdiness now... but how can they make a 'spiritual successor' to a game based on the Water Margin book? Either this game will also be based on it, or it won't. What this project sounds like is the team really want to make the long-rumored Suikoden 6, but they just don't have copyright permission to do so... so they've settled on their own game instead.
I'll bite when and if it gets to retail.
Looks like something I'd be interested in, but I don't back any Kickstarters so that's a nope from me. I'll take another look if/when they release it.
Yeah, I hope this hits the stretch goal.
Whaaaaa? This is awesome. Suikoden II is my favorite all-time game & the Suikoden series is my favorite JRPG series. I’ve been waiting so long for Suikoden VI but this will hopefully be a great alternative. Maybe if this does well we can hope for a Suikoden Collection on Switch 🙏🏼
Ooh! You can color me intrigued.
I doubt anything can quite mach Suikoden 2, aka possibly the best JRPG ever made, but I definitely am interested in seeing what they can come up with, I love the massive recruitable casts these games have.
I'll be dropping some money for this for sure.
I commented before but also wanted to day this will be the first time (and I swore I never would) contribute to a crowd funding campaign.
A new Suikoden game (Yay) looking for funding on Kickstarter (Boo). Every game I've backed through crowdfunding ended poorly. Never...again.
This is incredible news, I am very, very, very excited about this. Enough perhaps to even fund it... I've been waiting so long for a Suiko game, and this looks and reads amazing.
I missed out on all the Suikoden games, but the screenshots and the kickstarter trailer look great! The Octopath formula works brilliantly, and should totally be utilized more.
Suikoden 2 holds a special place in my childhood heart. If this is going to be anything like that, then count me in. Remember that god awful Luca Blight...
the RPG genre, the artstyle, the composer Motoi Sakuraba, the successor to Suikoden, the developers of Suikoden
...this is possibly the best 2020 news!
Yup, want that.
@XO-Frats Unforgettable. The best villain in any game, period.
Played 3, 4, 5, and Tierkreis. They are really good RPGs and I enjoyed all of them, even 4 which is considered the worst one. Tierkreis was a treat on the DS. The biggest downsides, to me, are there are pretty big variances on usable characters, some are just bad by the end of the game. The hidden units replace other units you could have and change the story for them, usually its sad. And you have to collect EVERY character to get the best ending. Kind of a pain since you can miss some and some have weird recruitment requirements. Still a wonderful RPG franchise.
@Kalmaro Huge Suikoden fan. Still own all the games. Just played through I & II again recently (for the millionth time). Its a fantastic series and if you enjoy JRPGs then I highly recommend.
Side note: I saw a comment where someone said the story in II wasn’t good: WTF! It’s praised as on of the best stories of any RPG. It’s got heart, complex characters, and a great twist.
Here’s a deeper look at the game & it’s characters:
https://www.gematsu.com/2020/07/suikoden-creators-announce-rpg-eiyuden-chronicle-hundred-heroes-for-ps5-xbox-series-x-switch-and-pc
@TG16_IS_BAE how dare you sir.
@JokerCK I'm sorry! I know this game is very well-liked, and I'm a monster.
Nice to hear; really enjoyed 1& 2 and I liked 4 despite some of its flaws so a new game by some of the brains behind them is very tantalizing.
It looks like Octopath Traveler... but with a plot?
@Incarna It's the 2.5D.
Octopath promoted itself on that graphical choice, too.
Suikoden 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I've must have completed it at least 5 times over the past 20 years. Suikoden 1 is also a very good game as well. The soundtrack of those two games are amazing, especially Suikoden 2's.
I can get behind this.
That blur effect made me quit the Octopath demo after just a few minutes. Never understood why people like the graphics so much. In my opinion the lighting and blur is clashing with the pixelated graphics in a really bad way.
Yes, it COULD be coming to Switch. Just like I COULD get up at 8am on a Saturday morning. Hahahaha! Anyway, I've never played a Suikoden game so this means very little to me. I don't know why I'm here.
@Thaliard Pretty easily actually. Why bother taking the risk pre-ordering when you can wait til release day, read a couple reviews, and walk into your preferred store to grab a copy off the shelf.
Most Kickstarter games don't have the above luxury. They need that cash flow to have any chance of crossing the finish line. If you want to see the game come out you HAVE to take that risk. And if it doesn't work out, that's life sometimes.
As a huge Suikoden series fan. I'm excited about this. I played the whole series. Stoked to see the developers doing something here.
BEWARE!
They are targeting next gen systems. As much as they want to put the game on a Nintendo console, they would rather it be a next gen Nintendo console. So despite all their best intentions, it could fall through for Switch. Much like that racing game by Namco for WiiU (can't even remember it's name I think that little of them - don't need reminding either.)
@Indielink I suppose you're right. Pre-orders aren't really a good comparison and I might've unintentionally seemed like I support pre-orders (I don't). However, I still feel like crowdfunding kinda sucks. It started as a way for new creatives to help start or finish their projects and is now used by industry vets either to shunt the risk to fans or test "engagement". It's exploitative. A Kickstarter shouldn't have had space at an E3 mainstage show. Platinum shouldn't have taken people's money for find out how much people wanted Wonderful 101 Remastered. I can't help but wonder why people who have credentials aren't able to get their game funded elsewhere. Why aren't they able to get a real investor? Did they even try?
@Thaliard I agree that Shenmue getting center stage treatment at E3 all those years ago was infuriating. The conference of the leading platform holder should not be announcing Kickstarter campaigns.
Platinum I think mentioned once or twice that most of the Kickstarter funds they received went towards the publishing costs and the creation of all of the physical goodies that came with backing, so it was basically a glorified LRG preorder. Not my favorite thing but okay.
I think with all of these well known industry devs it comes down to either control of the product or publishers just not being interested. The guys working on Eiyuden Chronicle are being very open about making the game they want to make. They have a vision and they don't want others mucking it up. It wouldn't surprise me if they did approach Square Enix, Capcom, or Bandai and they either wanted to make sweeping changes or just straight up said no.
@Indielink And once again, you are right. Maybe they did seek funding elsewhere and this is their last resort. I respect that; that's the original intent of crowdfunding. However, it has only made me more uncomfortable to support these endeavors as more crowdfunding projects fail due to creatives having more "vision" than business sense, or companies abusing their fanbase by using it as a tactic to build hype, baiting and switching, or using it as a platform to get picked up by a publisher. That being said, I sincerely hope that the guys working on this project get the funding they need and get the game they want out. People have wanted more Suikoden games for a while and Konami is terrible.
Wrong including next Switch aka Switch 2
It specifically says in the Kickstarter that they want to avoid putting it on Switch since, by the time the game is done, Nintendo will have likely moved onto their next piece of hardware and they don't want to risk having to go through a lengthy port process just to get it there. They'll do it if they have no other choice, but they seem to be targeting whatever Nintendo puts out next.
@Shepdawg1 which really makes sense to me. Not caring about the console as long as this becomes reality sometime. I hear a lot of good things about suikoden and would gladly spend a bit of money on the final product
@Shepdawg1 But isn't the Switch roughly halfway through its lifespan, meaning that if this game is completed in two years it should be good to go for the Switch?
It looks excelent, but I dont quite understand why they "stole" the style of Octopath Traveler
Come on Nintendo fans!!!
Let's them get the game released for the Switch !!!
@BlackenedHalo stole? What are you talking about ?Since when did Octopath own this style?
@BlackenedHalo Sprites rendered within 3D environments is hardly a concept the team behind Octopath Traveler founded. What they did, though, was attempt to replicate the backgrounds from the SNES era to create parity between the sprites and environments. This, if doing anything remotely similar, looks as if it's attempting to replicate the pre-rendered backgrounds from the PS1 era, or, if we look at games like Xenogears (or Suikoden), it might be an effort to capitalize on the nostalgia from that era. Many games back then made use of 3D engines to develop the environments and threw high-quality character sprites on top. This is all just speculation, though.
I made the "Physical Version" pledge. By the time I finished, the total money backed increased $50,000. Let's hope it maintains this momentum!
EDIT: In two hours, it went up nearly $250K. I don't think there's any concern warranted over whether this will reach its goal or not.
This isn't going to be on Switch. It doesn't sound like they even want to offer it for Switch so I hope they don't. Also, they are going to get a publisher, just like I figured they would which makes this a Kickstarter I wouldn't back even if I did back Kickstarters. Kickstarter is suppose to be for people without publishers, not people who don't have one yet but are in talks to get one.
Again, the game itself looks interesting enough. I'll look into it when it's done.
@Allspice From the studio: "We want to target Switch 2 but will make sure we provide options for Switch if that is the only thing there is. We care about Nintendo hardware."
It doesn't sound like they don't even want to offer it for the Switch.
@bozz Where do you see that? Because in the "Too Many Platforms" section, they talk about the high likelihood of dropping the lower end console, refunding backers if there is no other solution and hoping for a Switch 2.
@Allspice Apparently it was in the Kickstarter comments.
I'm also looking at it this way. Say BOTW 2 comes out at some point next year, do we really feel like the Switch will then become a thing of the past for Nintendo in favor of "Switch 2" just the following year? Maybe. But given that 2022 is just 17ish months away, I can't imagine that 1. they'd move on so quickly from the original and 2. there wouldn't have been even the slightest bit of concrete news about the successor so close to 2022.
Anything can happen but I'd be shocked if the Switch isn't still the primary system in 2022.
Misleading and incorrect article. The Kickstarter specifically says they are NOT targeting a release for Switch, and instead expect to release it for Nintendo's next console after the switch. They do then state they will attempt port it to Switch if there is no alternative, OR refund backers pledges who only intended for the Switch version. Nowhere are they pledging or guaranteeing to make the game for Switch so this article may cause a lot of buyer's remorse if readers take NL's word for it..
EDIT: Thanks NintendoLife for hearing our feedback and correcting the article!! I am really excited about this game, whatever platforms it ends up on!
This article is incredibly misleading. The Kickstarter explicitly states that they'll offer this for Nintendo's (yet to be announced) next console; not the Switch.
I should start with Suikoden at some point.
Wow over $1,000,000 backed already and it's still just the first day. This game is guaranteed for consoles, hopefully all is well going forward.
@Snaplocket They are predicting that Nintendo will make a new console by the time their game release and they could be right, Nintendo's generation of console only last for 5-7 years so it's likely Nintendo may launch a Switch successor around 2022 or something which I assume may be the year this game is close to finalization. Right now I'm not worry about a Switch port or if this game will ever be on Switch or its successor, I'm just worry that these guys would took the money and run or not fulfilling their promises. For now I will just sit back and see how this story play out.
If Crysis and Witcher III can go to Switch what's really stopping them from doing so. I think someone is not telling the truth here.
@SwitchForce They are still a small team and they don't want to waste time downgrading their contents or performance from the game so I'm guessing that's why they're not risking a Switch version. Basically they don't want to repeat what Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and The Outer Worlds did by delaying that version of the game but the quality is still mediocre.
Essentially they're not making this game with the Switch in mind while having the options to port to other platforms, they're making this game with the more powerful platforms in mind with the potential of either porting or not porting to Nintendo's non-existent hardware or the Switch. In other words if you're a Nintendo Switch owners and you are excited for this game, the chance of you getting a port of this is a gamble and not a guaranteed which is kinda lame cause there's nothing that screams next-gen at all about this game.
Read through the whole kickstarter and they have Koji Igarashi, who they worked with in their last company, promote their game. Given this information there's a chance they worked on Bloodstained and are not fond of making another switch port of a game. At the very least he probably said stay away.
@BetterThanVegas Koji Igarashi being part of the team is already red flag number one. Not saying that he couldn't be part of the team, just saying that him working with them already raise concern (though not a major one as of yet).
Well I'm trying to put down my pledge but for whatever reason Kickstarter doesn't seem to like my money at the moment.
apparently it's also targeting Nintendo's Next system whatever that is
I find it amazing the fans of suikoden still so many. Even more amazing was that Suikoden is largely a Playstation franchise with mainline entry only appearing on Playstation. It being a hit was quite unexpected!
I only played Tierkreis and have really fond memories of it. If this is coming to the next switch it would be great. But I don't think I'm going to kickstart again...
Well apparently Kickstarter has recently dropped support for Visa electron, that's just fantastic... And there is no option for paypal or anything like that either.
Well at least the project is going through so that's great but it sucks that I cannot support the spiritual successor to my favorite JRPG of all time. If there was any project I would've liked to back it would be this one.
@Damo If you read the kickstarter they want to release it on the Switch 2 not the current Switch as they would have to "downgrade their textures, massive amount of code re-writes"
Therefore if you want this for Switch don't bother.
Seems a little dodgy to offer it for a system that isn't even announced yet. Just raise money for the versions you can currently develop and worry about a potential 'Switch 2' version when the system actually exists. That's Kickstarter for you though I guess.
Not making this game for Switch would make sense if it was taking inspiration from Red Dead Redemption or Cyberpunk, not Octopath Traveler or Suikoden.
Switch will be more alive in 2023 than the PS4/XBO.
The fact that they hope Nintendo's next console will be next gen is hilariously off point. There's more chance of it using holograms then being a cheap, powerful PC.
Would this mean that Nintendo is about to send dev kits for its next system to developers out there? Are we entering a transition period? You know, with Nintendo refusing to communicate about anything.
In fairness they could just as easily be talking about the Xbox One. Plus it's fair to say I backed at least three Kickstarters that were all supposedly Wii U-bound and all of them ended up on the Switch because a) they were so behind schedule the Switch had already been released and b) it was probably easier working with the next gen of hardware.
They definitely should have been clearer up front instead of clarifying afterwards. Maybe their programmers pointed out that it wasn't responsible to offer ports to every platform under the sun when they don't know what the final hardware requirements of the game will be?
"The assumption that the game will be coming to a future Nintendo console seems like a stretch"
I mean, it is a STRETCH goal... 😉😅
If they can't get this onto Switch, they need to take a long, hard look at there development team.
It's far more akin to Octopath than FF7R. You could even argue the Switch should be it's home.
Further with their talk of if there is no Switch 2 they will have to develop for Switch, well tbh, good, I don't want their to be a Switch 2 yet or perhaps even then so i'll be keeping my fingers crossed there.
This game doesn't remotely look too demanding for the current Switch. It seems like they are just assuming there will be a new model Switch by the time they are done with the game.
Big assumption if you ask me.
They probably know more then we know at the moment but it seems my suspicion is right: Switch is on the way out. That's why its sooo quite, everything that was in development for the Switch now moves to Switch 2. Can't say I am very happy about the succesor coming this soon, but there you go.
Switch 2 is a couple of years away at least
I totally get where they're coming from, but I'm thinking the Switch isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I remember at one of these investors calls how it was mentioned that Nintendo expects the Switch's lifespan to be a little longer than its past platforms, so I'm sure it'll still be a thing in three years.
Now, the long rumored 'Switch Pro' will probably exist by then, and maybe this could be exclusive to that. Really makes me wonder when Nintendo is going to start talking about that, as the next gen consoles coming out this year are definitely gonna put the Big N on the back foot.
It's a perfect fit for Switch, so that's disappointing, pledge cancelled in that case.
Holy cow a dev putting out clickbait to get attention for their kickstarter
It’s doesn’t look something performance or graphically demanding.
I think it's a problem of small development team = less resources to optimise performance on multiple consoles. You can cover up sub-optimal build with sheer processing power (which is likely what they will do just building the game for next gen consoles), something harder to do on Switch where you'd have to heavily optimise.
I backed the game regardless. I have PS4, likely will also have PS5, and whatever next Ninty console is. I also don't think that Switch 2 will be released by then. Pro - yes, that is likely, but whether that meets their criteria remains to be seen so it is a gamble for those who are Nintendo-only. I love Suikoden so would back this regardless and worry later.
If you look at how long a typical nintendo console is out before its successor is released, they typically never have more than a 6 year primary lifespan. Some consoles continued to be sold while the successor was released but (with the exception of the WiiU which was a bit of a disaster) we are looking at least at a 5 year cycle with the more successful consoles having 6 years. I think at least Switch is going to match that 6 years and it really wouldn't surprise me if it went to 7. It'll be 3 and a half at the end of August, giving it at least another 2 and a half years. Thats probably enough time to see BOTW2, Metroid and another 3D Mario come out which I think will wrap up this generation.
NES - 6 years(ish)
SNES - 5-6 years (depending on where you lived)
N64 - 5 years
GC - 5 years
Wii - 6 years
WiiU - 4 years
Switch - (Not quite) 3 and half years
I don't mind these graphics. I prefer this graphic style over Suikoden 3. Those characters on screen were just as big as the house on the background. Hated the 3D movement. This is good looking and can't wait for it
That's assuming their plans are indeed something akin to a Switch 2. I'd imagine Nintendo would be a bit wary of making another iterative hardware that tries to ride the coattails of the previous massively successful device. Switch 2 more like Switch U amirite
Switch launched on March 3, 2017 and Nintendo said they would be supporting it for 8 years so its going to be a while.
That doesn't mean they couldn't have a Switch 2 out at the same time though. If another console does happen, my number 1 request is it be backwards compatible with the Switch eshop/Physical games.
@SwitchVogel While that's true, in 2.5 years the Switch will be the longest lived console without a successor released if that's the case. So it's fair to expect we'd at least have heard about the successor by then, and have some idea of when it might be out.
@graysoncharles It’s not and never was. It just says consoles.
Well, at least they're being honest unlike the A Hat in Time developers.
The game looks beautiful, but I can't concern myself with something that is years away.
@link3710 but the switch is also an handheld console.
nintendo's handheld console history:
gameboy: 1989 - 9 years
(virtual boy: 1995 - 1 year)
gameboy color: 1998- 3 years
gameboy advance: 2001 - 3 years
DS: 2004 - 7 years
3DS: 2011 - 6 years
switch: 2017 - 3 years
switch lite 2019 - almost 1 year
when you look at the successfull handheld consoles, nintendo could wait a long time if it's still selling before releasing a new console. I
put the switch lite because it's the last true handheld they released and it could show that nintendo isn't planning a switch 2 soon, only nintendo knows
Why are people so resistent to actually reading? How the article describes it also doesn't help. It is really likely the game will end up on the switch. They are just safe in what they promise and making the most financially sound decision. I'd rather they be open about this then end up in the situation a lot of Kickstarters have found themselves in (and they even acknowledge and use it as a reasoning for their decision)
People taking this way to literal.
@nathatruc With the exception of the Gameboy's incredibly unusual lifespan (something unlikely to be repeated), only the DS made it to 7 years. So by the time the Switch's 6th birthday has rolled around, if the next system is releasing the year after (7, like the DS), we will have certainly heard something about it by then.
I won't say it's impossible for the system to last 8 or 9 years, it's just incredibly unlikely.
Also, the Switch Lite isn't a console. If you're including that, then you need to include the DSi, 3DS XL, New 3DS, New 3DS XL, DS Lite, Gameboy Micro, Gameboy Advanced SP, Gameboy Lite, and Gameboy Pocket.
Makes sense. The Switch is already about three years old and a game of this size would probably take two-three years to release. Provided there are no issues during development. So it makes sense that they are focusing on Nintendo's next console when it's announced so they don't have to feel like they burned fans who pledged for Switch. It's very transparent of them to be this direct.
@retro_player_77 small team is a lame excuse plenty of other KS indie have gone switch and physical without issue. Saying waiting for next console is just LAME as well. The graphics is far less then Crysis or the team that did Witcher 3. So there is no excuses. They just want to ride the xfox psfox coattails. Clickbait money grab. Switch owners aren't looking at just eyecandy. There is more to a game then that and if one can't see that then is their own lost.
Honestly they are making the right call in doing it on Nintendos next system. Cause at the very least it will be in 2 and a half years they are going to release the game and even then most video game kickstaters can never release the game on the date they promise.
Also it makes sense for them to release them on xbone and ps4 as they are just mini computers so it is easier for them to port the game over compared to past consoles.
People saying that it doesn't look demanding. While yes that could be true the spec of the switch may not be able to handle it. Not all games are created equal and porting the game to switch could be a nightmare. Look at bloodstained on release. Didn't look like a demanding game but it was a mess on release.
Who know they could get it too work but they would rather not make a promise and then later have too cancel it.
Take a good look at Witcher 3 v3.6 settings and see the difference and also watch Crysis on Switch and tell me again this can't happen.
@SwitchForce To be fair to them it's less that they want to ignore the Switch, but rather avoid roadblocks and making promises they can't keep. They've learned from Mighty Number 9, Shenmue 3 and even Bloodstained. Bloodstained needed the help of 3 different studios to just get their game out and the Switch port was still compromised at launch. While the Switch version is very stable and excellent now, it did go through months of growing pains. This Kickstarter is more comparable to Bloodstained then a AAA port. Also, the Witcher 3 port had the backing of CDProject Red and Crysis has Crytek who is not a tiny little studio and they know the CryEngine inside and out.
I think this studio is being very humble and even stated if they can't release the game on the selected platform for Nintendo they will do a refund. That is great PR and I think this is a very respectable Kickstarter.
So they're just assuming there is going to be a "Switch 2"? I don't get it... those screenshots clearly shows that is not that very different to Octopath Traveler, and the Switch has gotten way more intense looking games than that so their reasons for not wanting to release it for the Switch sounds nonsensical to me...
Also given the success of the Switch it may just go the same path the 3DS did and go for two entire generations instead of just one so is more likely an enhanced version of the Switch will get released instead of an entire new next gen console.
Nice I amcool with this. I grows up with suikoden on PlayStation so as long as it comes there I am fine with any other consoles and when they skipped switch I am actually happy. I mean usually for switch devs had to pay external studio for the porting job and I am happy that this means faster development cycle if they skip the switch.
They definitely should've clarified before getting people to pledge thinking that there would be a switch version. Other than that, at least they were upfront about the fact that either they don't care enough to make a Switch version. However, invoking the idea of Nintendo's next console to justify their reasoning just downgrades it to just another excuse. There are so many more better looking games on the Switch already, so...
@Wexter They could just develop a Switch version after the fact. They just don't want to develop it at all, unfortunately.
Ur saying switch hardware cant handle ds graphics
who ever wrote this article should be fired. nintendo wants the switch around for 10 years theres no Switch 2 and the next system doesnt even have a name. switch isnt going anywhere anytime soon
@NintendoPok
Fired for a single article which isn't exactly invalid, wow i wouldn't want to work for you in my lifetime XD
No matter, where is it that the stretch goals shown on the kickstarter page? All i'm seeing is about building this village thing.
@Rosona On the campaign page just scroll through to about half-way - the goal banner is there.
@finalstan
I missed that, thanks.
Hoped to see what they actually were as a whole, not drip fed.
@eaglebob345 They have not really stated that though. This game will take 2-3 years to develop and we don't know where the Switch will be at that point. Will it be phased out by Nintendo? Will Nintendo have a new console at that point. It seems to me the devs just don't want to commit yet during the early stages of development but are keeping the door open for what Nintendo could have cooking.
@Rosona bruh
Had to press Ctrl + F while reading this.
Switch 2?! If this wasn't a supposition, here we go again... You never know what Nintendo is planning, but this at least makes sense for the next fiscal year actually.
So, do they even know anything about the NX- I mean, the "Switch 2"? Even Switch Pro is a better name...
