The TakeOver - inspired by beat 'em up classics like Final Fight and Streets of Rage - is coming to the Nintendo Switch eShop either later this year or early next year.
To kill some time in between now and the launch, the developer Pelikan13 has released a new trailer. This one introduces the game's cast of fighters, showcases the co-op multiplayer and weapons in the game and also highlights the exciting 3D action scenes. It looks like it's striving to be the best within the genre.
Take a look at the trailer above and tell us what you think of it in comparison to the recent Streets of Rage 4 trailer.

I'm still working my way through Shaq-Fu and the Beat Em Up Bundle. This looks cool but it will be awhile before I get to it. Hopefully that will give it time to get a nice deep discount.
Just a disgrace !
Why coming with "the take over" if "The 90's Arcade Racer" is still not available today... :/
Just to refresh some memories, the 90's Arcade Racer was funded and the release date was planned for November 2013 !
Yeah November 2013 ! I'll be ashamed to come in 2018 to promote another game...
I'll pass !!!
@Cobalt I thought Nicalis bought the rights to it and then it was never heard from again. Which saddens me. I was dying for that game.
All about this. Definitely going to get this.
@Gen0neD Nicalis joined Anthony to work together... and then... SILENCE !
But today, yayyyy a come back but not with the 90's Arcade Racer noooooo, with the take over... What are we supposed to understand ?
That the money from the The 90's Arcade Racer was used to make the take over ? Like I said, I'll pass without any doubt !
Damn you would think it it's possible to make other playable characters then bigg buff dude, brunette who kicks and athletic blonde guy.
The music doesn't suit at all.
That music is just horrible. Couldn’t watch the trailer to the end.
AWESOME! Actually this is the style I was hoping Streets of Rage was going to be in. Oh well, because this game looks AMAZING!
"inspired" nowadays means "copy Characterdesign and their Signature Special Moves" and/or copy specific Stagedesign (like the Bulldozer-Chase)?
Neat but nevertheless will still get asap
@Cobalt Pelican 13 left the development of 90's arcade racer about two years ago and handed it over to Nicalis, where it is now dead.
Now this is what I'm talking about, info check, graphics check, gameplay check, a kickass rockin theme song checkmate. It even has the Pit level from the first Mortal Kombat in there as well. Definitely getting this for Switch.
The TakeOver - from the creator of 90's Arcade Racer - is coming to the Nintendo Switch eShop either later this year or early next year or sometime next decade or perhaps not at all.
Not that keen on the 3D graphics, but I'd take it over Raging Justice. Will give it a shot probably, as I'm all about beat em ups.
Well, looks pretty good! Will have to get it when released, if it's as good as it looks.
This is kind of like Killer Instinct andd Pit Fighter had a baby that became a beat em up.
Wait a minute - music by Yuzo!?!!? SNAP!
@YANDMAN did he ever publicly state that he abandoned the project? Last I looked at the Kickstarter page he didn't so much as bother to inform backers that the game was being handed over to Nicalis.
SoR4 looks like the better beatemup but I do like the prerendered graphics style, not so much the designs however
Hope it has online multiplayer
Nice. My sort of game.
“So exciting 3D action game”
Doge is that you?
Mysterious lack of footage of multiplayer is troubling. Backgrounds and 'action' gameplay look promising, but the characters themselves just look like that bad batman forever game. SoR4 will be fine. This presents no threat at this time.
Looks pretty rad.
Nice visuals, decent animations, the female playable character is designed to be hot, all check. This actually looks pretty interesting to me. Might end up getting both this and SoR4.
@Fragarach Well i think you can conclude that when something has been handed over to another company to finish it has indeed been abandoned, how else would you view it?
@AshFoxX It's been on early access on Steam for ages, go check it out.
I wish it looked more cartoony. These "realistic" sprites make the characters feel slow moving.
Kinda interested in it, I’ll keep an eye out.
So glad to see the return of brawlers. This looks good throw away fun. I'll see if my co-op pal is down for it.
I hope it isn't a complete let-down like that god awful Raging Justice. That game was a terrible beat-em-up, but this one looks promising
@YANDMAN I would, but seeing as I never read any official comment from either pelikan13 or Nicalis that clearly states that development duties were entirely given over to Nicalis or that they were just coming in for publishing duties, I'm left wandering.
@Fragarach Nicalis bought the rights to the game, that's it. That's where it ends, they are not contractually obligated to anything that previously was connected with Kickstarter, hence the name change. Nicalis can now at any time or not finish or release the game. it is no longer the property of Pelican13. I have heard rumours that P13 are trying to buy it back to finish it, but i take this more as hype to save their own skin. If you own something that you are clearly not using and somebody wanted to buy it you would sell it back. to be honest it doesn't really matter anymopre as Virtua racing will be out soon as well as Racing Apex which is already a far superior 90's arcade racer and is coming to all platforms.
