Nintendo fans have reportedly started to "troll" and spam the company's UK Twitter account after the Japanese branch blocked a bunch of soundtracks on YouTube earlier this week.
It all kicked off on 8th December, when video game soundtrack archivist and YouTube Channel GilvaSunner revealed (via Twitter) how Nintendo Japan had blocked a second lot of music - including soundtracks for Super Mario 64, Super Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Mario Kart Wii and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
The original copyright claim was issued in August last year, as can be seen in the tweet below:
https://twitter.com/GilvaSunner/status/1336246347423494144
In response to the latest developments, fans dug up a Nintendo UK tweet from around the same time last year and began spamming it (again) with YouTube's "video unavailable" notice - highlighting the copyright block by Nintendo:
https://twitter.com/BasedZack/status/1336406667756523521
Nintendo is obviously within its legal rights here, but the same group of fans feel it leaves them with little to no way to listen to their favourite video game music. This latest drama follows on from the company's decision to C&D The Big House Smash competition and stop the sale of Etika's Joy-Con.
What are your own thoughts about all of this? Do you think Nintendo should perhaps make its video game music more readily available elsewhere if it's going to takedown fan uploads? Leave a comment down below.

Well... Nintendoās Gaming Spotify Service incoming...
Eh. Just as long Nintendo puts out bangers. I don't care. I vote with my wallet regardless if it works.
luckily i have all the music from my favourite games on my phone anyway, i knew this would happen at some point
This is just another variation of the "Nintendo removes/blocks XXXXXXXXXX from YouTube" article that has been posted here 100 times before.
But feel free to rehash all the same arguments below!
Nintendo should have expected this.
Has anyone ever been 'gruntled'?
@Lordplops
This comment gruntled me very much.
EDIT: On a similar note, I sometimes wonder if it is possible to be sheveled.
I have no problem with this as it's perfectly within their rights to do so but it'd be a good idea to provide some sort of good alternative. A service where they sell all their soundtracks digitally would probably be pretty successful and remove a lot of grounds for complaint. That being said, all the entitled people who whinge over ever little thing don't really deserve nice things anyway.
@Lordplops "Rude it is to assume so, that my trait ain't status quo. Bear and bird they know this jam, 'gruntled' is the way I am!"
IIRC, there's a stream that I go to that says playing "his" music on stream gets you a copyright claim.
Not surprised and I also don't care.
i really do not care that theyre being taken down, but nintendo provides no alternative themselves. that is why im firmly against their decision to take all the reuploads down. either upload the music urself or f off nintendo
None of my playlists seem impacted thus far.
As already stated, Nintendo are totally within their right to do this, although it is then hopeful that theyāll offer some legal access to these tracks in some form in the near future.
But we can hear some of the Songs on the Switch with Mario 3D Allstars haha
@BenAV "people who whinge over ever little thing don't really deserve nice things anyway."
This part here bothers me. I know where you are coming from with it but the thing is it is sometimes the little things that people complain about can make the bigger impact. If you complain about the little thing and companies do change on that then eventually they may give into some more larger issues that people have.
Little things to some people would be the inverted controls in the All stars collection as those people are the minority to that control scheme but the people complained and Nintendo did something about it. But since that is a little thing and people whinged about it. In your mind Nintendo shouldn't have don't that since people like that don't deserve it.
My thoughts on the artical. Are Nintendo fully in their right to do so. 100% they are but is it the right thing to do No. There are some give and take. I understand that you need to protect your IP but at times you keep on doing it to an extreme extent that you will eventually piss off a large amount of people where it will have a noticeable impact later on. It may be small now but keep doing it and that small group will be large enough to notice.
These songs are decades old, what's the issue with someone uploading them exactly? They could just sell the soundtracks if they don't want people getting them for free.
A company claiming their own work? I don't see the issue here.
As much as we love Nintendo's games, we don't own them. I'd rather enjoy what I can than have some pointless protest online.
It was nice to have Sephirothās reveal shut the #FreeMelee & Co. up for a while.
trying not to smile to much Whaaaaat? Nintendo doesn't want people to infringe on their IP? This is the first time I have heard of such an outrageous thing! What's next? They will take down all the Zelda and mario fan games ripping off their IP?
Hey its there music I would be happy buying it or watching it for free, Idk why there mad its pretty crazy. If your really look you can still find some of it on soundloud and youtube its not all gone.
I don't understand why Nintendo don't upload all their OSTs to YouTube themselves, and make money from it.
Then everybody would be happy?
If they have no intention of putting their music out there then this really is a dick move on their part.
@Moon I to ponderd this it makes so much sense to make money off your own music.
@Azuris
Yes, even better that it is only for people who buy it between 9/18/20 to 3/31/21.
@SilentHunter382 I chose my words poorly there. Rather than little things I mostly mean non-issues. I think a lot of people tend to blow things way out of proportion and go about voicing their opinions in pretty toxic manners. Those are the people who I don't want to get their way most of the time.
But Sega donāt care. Listen to that Mega Drive music till your cows are home
If they made soundtracks available for purchase, I'd be fine with it. However like people have already said, they're targeting music they never intend to sell. So I really don't see the harm in them being on YouTube.
For every video they take down, they should put one up on their own channel. Then people still get to listen to the music they like, and nintendo gets a bit of money from the videos. Everybody wins.
However Nintendo historically seems to prefer the everybody loses scenario.
@Ooyah
Wheezy was shelved in Toy Story 2 š¢
On this week's episode of "Nintendo does something within their rights but still completely unlikeable." It feels like every other day they do something to spoil the decades of goodwill they've earned. What a shame.
@fafonio @NinChocolate Sega put their soundtracks on Spotify itself... I wish Nintendo would join us in the 21st century and follow suit (especially if they're going to take them off YouTube!) I think there's too many old out of touch people running Nintendo. :-/
@BenAV Ok then that I do agree with. There are somethings that are an non-issue. This I think falls between the Non-issues and Little things.
What Nintendo should do is create channels for their OST on youtube and be the sole place on youtube to listen to that. That way Nintendo cuts out the re-uploads and then nintendo can then can make money off people listening to those ost. That would be the best compromise for these people. Sure you are going to get people complaining that there are ads on the songs but it is the best middle ground for people who want to listen to the OST for "free" and for Nintendo to make money off them.
I've said it a million times by now.
Nintendo owns every single right to take down music they have created or published. Don't be a pirate.
@SilentHunter382 Nah, the best way would be for them to put their soundtracks on Spotify like Sega does.
@sanderev Yeah and they don't do anything with their soundtracks anymore (I know they used to release CDs) so they're not even losing any money from this? Just because they can, doesn't mean they should.
Weird, i still found Mario Kart 8 OST from Youtube by different users.
@Clyde_Radcliffe Nobody is required to release their music on youtube. And if they don't, nobody else is allowed to that instead without their permission. It's that simple.
"Just because they can, doesn't mean they should."
Same goes about uploading stuff you don't have the right to.
Donāt yāall remember? Nintendo suggested using Smash Bros on portable switch to make playlists and bring it with you to listen! Come on people
@Anti-Matter - Sometimes it takes time to catch up with everyone, but maybe some will somehow squeak past!
something something theyre in their right to, but on the other hand nintendo cherry picks what songs they choose to resell anyway, if at all
Like a promo account even cares that much about its inbox. But fan entitlement strikes again indeed. And tirades like "making timeless music collections harder to find or in some cases erased" continue to fuel the impression that, for all the hypothetical tech user prowess you'd expect of the newer generations, many youngsters really seem to know zero upload channels and download sources beyond... YouTube of all sites?šš
Or is it just that traditional options like blogs and torrents come with an increasingly obscene caveat of - gasp - having to store all this music offline?
@Clyde_Radcliffe Well that too is an option but to get the best experience to listening to the ost is to pay for premium. The youtube method is the best free way to at least officially listen to the ost if the go down that road I said.
@nhSnork still not as quick or convenient as saving playlists on youtube, i wouldnt mind downloading songs for offline if it didnt yknow, take up space i need. cause overtime that stuff will pile up lol
@gloom Did they? That's hilarious! Well considering they can't even give us voice chat through our TV or console speakers I'm not surprised.
Nintendo have never cared about their most loyal fans! Hence their stupid rules on YouTube play throughs, fan content and esports. They are in desperate need of modernisation.
I wish Nintendo had their music readily available in one form or another. I'd prefer Spotify but just having CD releases outside of Japan would be fine too. I buy my favorite OSTs from Japan but it would be too expensive to try get everything I want with all the added expenses from ordering outside of my country. Plus they have a huge catalog of older games that never had physical soundtracks or if they did, they are hard to obtain.
Last two I got were TMS#FE and XC2 soundtracks. I already had the vocal collection CD that came with Wii U's TMS special edition but it's really lacking. Had to upgrade.
@sanderev and how, pretell, does uploading soundtracks from old games hurt Nintendoās bottom line? Corporations abuse the copyright system too much as is when itās absolutely not necessary and people like you that enable that kind of behavior is not helping change that in the slightest.
The stupid thing with these dmca takedowns is that without music being allowed on platforms like YouTube and twitch younger fans donāt ever find this music. Africa by toto went viral directly because of twitch and YouTube 35 years after first release.
@Grackler Play-Asia has a nice collection of soundtracks you can buy.
why do people feel the need to pat nintendo on the back for stuff like this? like, its ok to be critical of a company. one look at their competition and you can see how backwards nintendo can be with their decisions
they should resell these songs if they care so much about people uploading them, otherwise no ones gonna feel bad about listening to them on youtube
@boxyguy "You should sell your stuff otherwise I'm going to steal it"
See here how stupid that is?
Should Nintendo release their OSTs to streaming services / itunes? No.
Would it be awesome if they did it anyway? Ofcourse.
@sanderev Even EA recognise how vital YouTubers are. Nintendo are just archaic.
Nintendo can do no wrong in fanboy eyes.
@SilentHunter382 Yeah, I definitely think that Nintendo either uploading the soundtracks themselves or offering them on some sort of other free or paid service would be a good idea. Somehow I don't think people getting outraged and carrying on like Nintendo are being horrible monsters is going to lead to that solution though.
@sanderev its audio, theyre not gonna lose game sales over it, if anything it brings people closer to the franchises as much as thats hard to believe. its ok to admit that nintendo could be handling this better. theyre just taking away options and not offering solutions
@boxyguy If the only way to listen to the music is by buying the game, then yes they are losing game sales if someone just uploads the music.
@sanderev no ones gonna strictly buy a game just to listen to the music lol
@boxyguy You can, for instance, listen to all the Mario songs in the 35th anniversary collection directly from the game.
And for most Nintendo games you can find soundtracks on Amazon or Play-Asia.
Nintendo are a terrible and scummy company at the moment!
@sanderev @boxyguy Honestly I have bought games were I have been on the fence about buying but hearing the soundtrack for said games on youtube made me buy them.
If those OST weren't on youtube then I wouldn't have bought those games.
@TheLightSpirit This is what many people are saying it in chat. Nintendo are making it very difficult for many people to buy their OST physically outside of japan. They don't have the songs on google play or itunes. Sure they have the pokemon OST on itunes but not on google play.
@sanderev nintendo still cherrypicks which games they rerelease songs for, they should rerelease more songs from other franchises
Think it is fine and within their rights.
I would however say that Nintendo should also make it widely available to buy on digital platforms so those who want to legally own them can easily get them.
@boxyguy Let me say this again: Nobody is forced to release music / anything. It's cool if they do, but if they don't that doesn't give you the right to steal from them.
Not just this, people are still spamming Melee and saying that Nintendo is the worst company ever. It's highly annoying...
@sanderev Most people don't own CD players these days, especially not younger gamers.
@sanderev yeah, so dont be surprised when fans take it into their own hands to preserve and share these songs that nintendo locks away. "buying the game" shouldnt be the only way to hear these songs, thats just far from convenient
@Clyde_Radcliffe That's not Nintendo's problem. And you can buy a CD player for less than most soundtracks, so that's also easy to fix.
And even if you don't want to carry a cd player everywhere. You can just buy the cd, buy an USB cd player and make copy of the songs on the CD. (Don't share the copies with others). Place the copied mp3 files onto the device of your choice and listen to that.
@sanderev nobody wants to carry around a cd player to listen to songs anymore. if nintendo wont do anything about it, then people will be critical
@Stevethejedi
But was he disgruntled, which made him dismayed, which caused him to be disallusioned, which led to him appearing dishevelled? š
Honestly I'd rather just record the tracks myself and store them somewhere for me to listen without relying on Youtube anyways.
eh, there's always going to be nintendo music on youtube, especially if theres an upload from 10 years ago still on there, one wonders how much "sweeping" they actually did.
Can see why they don't put them on streaming services as the money paid per steam is pathetic. Unlike music artists Nintendo don't have to go down this route. What Nintendo should do though is release the physical soundtracks outside of Japan. Give people a chance to buy the product.
@boxyguy Just rip the cd
@SilentHunter382 pretty much. the reason i love rhythm heaven so much was because i first discovered the songs on youtube, i ended up buying the games and became a huge fan. heck the reason i think fondly of the series rn is cause i still listen to the songs on playlist
@sanderev too many steppssss, and if theres no cd available ill do a quick youtube search thank you
Seems like a fairly peaceful protest to me. Nintendo has a right to takedown copyright violations, but we have a right to voice our displeasure over the fact that we cannot legally purchase and listen to the music.
@boxyguy and that's the problem with this generation. Always wanting instant gratification.
I've collected a nice selection of soundtracks in the years (all of these on cd):
The legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (club Nintendo)
Super Smash Bros for Wii U / 3DS (club Nintendo)
Kirby 25th Anniversary Orchestra Concert (JP import)
The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess HD "Sound selection" (club Nintendo)
Super Mario 3D World OST (club Nintendo)
Octopath Traveler OST (JP import)
The Legend of Zelda A Link Between Worlds (OST) (club Nintendo)
Sounds of (Fire Emblem) Echoes - Game collector's edition
Kirby Triple deluxe soundtrack (club Nintendo)
Super Mario Galaxy OST (club Nintendo)
Super Mario 25th Anniversary soundtrack cd
And some others, and some of which I purchased the iTunes version. Like most of the PokƩmon ones and Super Mario Odyssey.
And sure I would love to see Nintendo make a way to offer their OST online for everyone to listen. But I can't expect that to happen or demand it to happen.
@smithpa01
When would you listen to this over real music
@boxyguy I can acknowledge some convenience in cloud music collections (partly because the local 4G is at least potent enough to allow me adequate personal experience in THAT field), but it's still a first world problem - especially when discussed alongside something as dramatic as "losing access to the music completely". And I may be really tempting "OK boomer" responses here, but seriously, the physical memory to carry all this stuff in, including portable devices, ironically DWARFS the options that were available/affordable back when the streaming alternative wasn't much of an option yet. My first MP3 player (before I got a smartphone) could fit glorious 256 Mb of music on board; the stuff people use to listen to music nowadays tends to come with 500 times that even built-in, not to mention the MicroSD capacity they support. Unless you stick to FLAC quality (and, some might argue, even then to a degree), there's a gargantuan music library to carry around if need be. The one that will never get taken down nor delisted for license expiry (which happens with subscription music services to this day) to boot.
And to address your other comment here, there's nothing archaic about exerting free will and choice upon one's own business offers. Yes, Ninty may be leaving money on the table, but they may simply not care enough for this money and can afford not to. Put me in their shoes, and I know I wouldn't enjoy facing any but-thou-musts on this front, especially when I'm a longtime industry juggernaut worldwide and a top 10 richest company at home. They have all the right to pull down uploads of their intellectual property and zero obligation to provide legal alternatives - and in the age of internet-mouthpieced obscenities like fanship and entitled consumerism, I am indeed inclined to pat the back of every company that doesn't trade this for chasing cynical phantom fakes like "fan love" or "goodwill capital".
Didn't know what kind of "spamming" to expect, but this is absolutely perfect.
Why would anyone listen to video game music outside of the game is beyond me. Mario has some of the most annoying tunes going. There are some relaxing melodies in say Zelda games but that's about it. Just listen to real music if that's the case. Theres geeky stuff and then there's this ultimate nerd stuff.šš
@nhSnork
Does your head hurt from all the geeky stuff you just wrote
@Ooyah I usually describe people as āwell kemptā in my contact notes, now Iām going to try āsuitably sheveledā and see if anyone notices
Never have a I seen the phrase āpeople that donāt know how it worksā said by more people that clearly donāt know how it works themselves.
As pointed out by plenty on many many thread - other companies do not act in this way and they donāt lose their copyright.....
I know many here are dungeon dwellers in their mommas house but please donāt talk about entitlement and pretend you know how āitā works when you donāt even know what āitā is.
Morale high grounders here are as stupid as they are annoying. You are the entitled ones. Not those pointing out bad behaviour
@GTHOLLAND I was born in the geeky stuff, molded by it.
Listing all the CDs youāve got in your mums basement is irrelevant to this conversation. Thatās the problem with your generation you canāt even stay on topic.
Oh my god some people are defending this, imagine shoving nintendos boot so far down your throat, they don't even release their ost in digital format anywhere. Some people really saying I "don't care just keep pumping out games" and "well its with in their right to take down" šš this is so sad not sure what expected from nintendo fans.
@TheLightSpirit @sanderev @Rhaoulos @Kimyonaakuma - Are you aware how YouTube copyright claims work? š¤
Nintendo has the option to claim the copyright AND leave the video up. That way Nintendo will get the money for those views, and the fanbase will be happy because the video won't be taken down. This is how the majority of music companies handle their content on YouTube. They don't strike you, they just claim the money for it.
But Nintendo just has to continue being a douchebag. So get off your high horse š
@Stocksy how dare you!?! Canāt stay on topic? Why, thatās the rudest thing Iāve ever heard. Well... maybe not the absolute rudest, probably top two or three. The woman in the post office was ruder this morning, I was there to buy some stamps. Why donāt people write letters anymore? Itās all texting and emailing and commenting nowadays. Itās ruining peopleās spelling, and there are too many acronyms that I donāt understand. It was six months before i realised SMH doesnāt stand for Smell My Hand. Soap is so expensive now, I like my hands to smell like Imperial Leather but now they have to smell like Superdrugās own and I donāt like it.
So in closing, because I need to get on, soap should be cheaper.
@Kid_Sickarus
And when I am happy about something, I will say that I am mayed! š p. s. Interesting how it is "unkempt" and not "diskempt".
@sanderev We live in an age where music artists upload their albums to YouTube as a way to promote sales. The idea that having game soundtracks on YouTube would somehow negatively impact game sales is an exceptionally weak argument.
@Stocksy @kid_sickarus
Sorry, Stocksy. Apologies for kid_sickarus. Getting back on topic... this soundtrack thing is a problem, and... have you ever stopped to think about how weird rhubarb is?
sarcasm Who would have thought Nintendo would object to people illegally uploading their content to YouTube? /sarcasm
@Dr_Corndog That is a good argument, but let me point out a flaw: "We live in an age where music artists upload their albums"
This is certainly true, but it is the artist uploading the content, not others getting the content, ripping it and then uploading it. Nintendo didn't upload those albums so they are illegal uploads.
@Stocksy Nintendo is a notoriously litigious company. They'll take legal action to stop anything they perceive as potentially harmful to their brand, even if the likelihood of harm actually befalling is zero. Always have.
@Kid_Sickarus oooo imperial leather. The sign of 80s luxury. I salute you.
@Ooyah I love a nice crimble crumble.
@Prizm They do have the option do take the money from the streams, but it's Nintendo's property and they always do things their way. They almost always handle their own franchises and even had a partnership program so people couldn't stream the games otherwise.
I don't think it has anything to do with being on a high horse - it's just that we understand that Nintendo has their full rights to do this, and it isn't worth being outraged about it. People seem to think that their love for a game or soundtrack gives them some kind of ownership when it doesn't. We're paying to personally use the software for enjoyment, we don't have the rights to anything unfortunately.
@Trikeboy Perhaps. But I'm not making an argument about legality. The point is, Nintendo is standing on extremely shaky ground is they want to claim this is actually hurting game sales. Whether it's legal (and my understanding is it's only illegal if Nintendo chooses to enforce their copyright) is a separate issue.
@Dr_Corndog "my understanding" Ahh, where did you get your law degree?
Um. I'm confused. If Nintendo owns the ***** then they have every legal right to do this. If you owned it would you allow this? Hell no you wouldn't and you're lying if you say otherwise. This is not worthy news. Too many snowflakes in the world who want everything for free. Get a job š¤£
just find the mp3s on google
"You can't buy these"
ebay > Nintendo Soundtrack = 332 results (currently). And they are not expensive.
@JustMe "Entitled" like those people who want to play Melee online?
@Yhdekskymmenen The game wasn't designed to play online. You want to play online, you can play Brawl, Wii U, 3DS, or Ultimate.
There are other places to get music. I got dozens of Nintendo soundtracks for free from other websites. There are other alternatives than YouTube
99% of game companies stick their stuff on Spotify now. Even the Silent Hill soundtracks are on there and that series is dead. The funny thing is that the Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time soundtracks are on Spotify, I just donāt think Nintendo have noticed. Either they provide an alternative or donāt actively seek out these videos, they just love to ruin fun.
@nessisonett They probably act when it is brought to their attention. Email Nintendo about the albums on Spotify and see how fast they are taken down. Also, the alternative to not using illegal uploads is to buy the CDs. There are plenty of official Nintendo CDs on ebay right now.
Realistically the only people Nintendo are really hurting with this are the fans.
How many non-nintendo fans will go to YouTube and listen to video game soundtracks?
Its going to be those who are feeling nostalgic and pop on to stream a couple of songs
As user unfriendly as expected. From a business perspective a wise decision. Keep it rare so it rises in value!
@Kimyonaakuma finally someone who gets it, im sick of the "freemelee" brats who think we should stop enjoying Nintendo's fun games as some sort of protest, like it would do anything anyways.
@nessisonett I can see Mario 64 but only remakes of Ocarina of Time songs? Do you have a link please.
@Trikeboy If theyāre on eBay, Nintendo arenāt getting any money. Iād happily buy Nintendo albums on vinyl, I own plenty of other game soundtracks but Nintendo donāt print vinyl. They should just start selling their music legit even if itās just FLAC downloads.
@Clyde_Radcliffe Ahh I see that itās been taken down, that must have been relatively recently as I listened to it on Spotify only a few days ago. Star Fox 64 is still on though.
I think Nintendo is moreso losing money by not bothering to make a really good game in like over 2 years.
Nintendo's Japanese branch is almost always the source of this YouTube drama. The old men at home base are stuck in the 90s, unfortunately.
The music is going to be streamed one way or the other. It's not like this one account is the only one sharing Nintendo music. Search for "[insert game] OST" and you'll usually find at least three or four different playlists pop up. Sometimes there's a purge of certain songs or OSTs, but I've noticed new accounts usually pop up with the same music before too awful long.
I know the way I listen to music has dramatically changed these last five years or so. I can't even remember the last time I bothered to download an MP3. I stream music in general, but I'll also buy soundtracks (mostly for collection purposes) for games and movies I love.
People are going to keep uploading your stuff, Nintendo. The world is just moving that way in terms of how it experiences music. You can either take advantage of that and use it as an additional source of monetization (because I'd be perfectly happy to pay a reasonable price to stream your incredible work) or continue to fight losing battles against it, but it's going to happen either way.
@15roundTKO Yeah, they've been losing tons of money... checks notes...sorry, they've been breaking records and making tons of money with their releases in the last few years. Guess other people disagree with your assessment.
Nothing worse than entitled gamers who believe they just deserve something. They are soundtracks most not even intended to be heard outside of the game. There are legal ways of getting hold of them via import sometimes digitally. Companies are not some how required to release music independently of the game, doesn't matter if you want it or how silly you think it maybe its not your decision. You have no right to the music and quite frankly its hard to have a moral high ground when you to are doing wrong.
@nessisonett So what? Limited production runs exist. Why are you entitled to this product? Nintendo not getting money for ebay sales is a piss poor argument for illegal uploads. I cannot stand the over entitlement you people think you have for products.
Wish folk would stop calling this type of person a fan. I honestly don't know what word we should use, but they aren't fans acting like this. It's pathetic.
I can't really fault ether side here. The fans can totally boycott if they disagree with a company, and a company can do whatever the heck they want with their stuff.
Nintendo is an absolute **** with stuff like this.
And, yes, you're wrong if you think otherwise.
Things like these do a good job in reminding us that Nintendo is no one's friend, it's a corporation unlike others. I am not saying whether it's good or bad, just that they don't care whether you get to listen a piece of music you liked. And those who are defending Nintendo here, hope they don't strike something down you hold valuable.
I thought Nintendo did release their music on CD for sale IN JAPAN.
Maybe they should consider the rest of the world? Or at least putting them up on like iTunes or whatever else?
Nintendo taking it down doesn't bother me. I guess I'm old that I can recall before youtube uploads of soundtracks, you know you did? You bought the games and recorded the soundtracks yourself. They can't take that away.
And anyways, just like ROM sites, wouldn't be surprised if they take one youtube uploader down and yet there's 10 more channels.
@Trikeboy Itās not the 90s.
Were those the SilvaGunner uploads? If so, that person has done some disgusting crap in the past, so good on Nintendo there. If it was literally anyone else's uploads though... :/
If Nintendo takes stuff down, they should make it accessible themselves. This is one of the laziest corporations Iāve ever witnessed.
They put so much effort into chasing down individuals, when they could be putting that effort into bettering themselves as a company, fixing joy con drift, making more games, adding a music player to their online service, adding simple freaking folders to the home screen, etc.
Luckily, this YouTube channel is not the only access point for all the great game music, so while it sucks that yet again, the corporate giant is bullying an individual, in the long run it wonāt matter, because the internet is literally a hydra.
Cut off one head, several more grow back in its place.
@nessisonett That is weaker than your ebay argument. Yes, it is not the 90s, does that mean you are entitled to this content?
@TG16_IS_BAE "If Nintendo takes stuff down, they should make it accessible themselves" They already did. They are called CDs. They can be found on sites like ebay or Amazon.
@Trikeboy Nintendo publishes CDs in 2020?
@EmmatheBest What have they done that is disgusting? I am unfamiliar with this individual.
I would be more mad if the covers start to get removed.
There are some absolutely epic orchestras and big bands playing fantastic Nintendo music: Symphonic Legends, OJV, 8 Bit Big Band, Imsaneintherain etc
@KingMik
I mean the reason they don't release CDs in the US is the same reason the US wont release content in Canada ... this exact argument.
Nintendo knows that people in the US are a bunch of whinny spoiled brats who have no respect for the work artists put into making IPs or IP law in general, so releasing the CDs in the US is not only a complete waste of money because it just makes it easier for people to steal from you, but it actively empowers the people who are trying to steal from you already by giving them something they can monetize.
The US sees Canada's streaming and piracy laws as too lax, which is why Canada has to wait a few weeks before they can view shows like "Last Week Tonight", as an other example of companies doing this.
And I completely agree with Nintendo here. Yeah it sucks not being able to buy anything cool while I'm in the West, but I completely support their decision to protect their IP and agree that's just not possible with their US fanbase. It's up their with worst fan bases in the world for any product. Look at just this week on Nintendolife, Nintendo fans have argued they should be able to steal, edit, and profit off a game if they don't like the netcode, should be able to steam the full stories to games and profit off of the work of others, made a stream being taken down for technical issues into a vast conspiracy where the whole event was cancelled and then used that fabricated story to slander Nintendo, and now they want to put songs Nintendo owns on youtube and profit of the ad money.
Why doesn't Nintendo care about the US? Because they hate you, because you're awful.
@SupaWaluigi There should be some protections for fair use in place for that sort of thing, especially if they are playing song arrangements. That would upset me, as well. Some video game music sounds stunning when played with live instrumentation. Super Guitar Bros. did a Castlevania medley that was so good.
Yes they do actually. The Animal Crossing New Horizons soundtrack was released on the Nintendo store this year. It is currently sold out but you can find it easily on ebay. They are usually bundled with games but you can get them. For older soundtracks, because they aren't new, you can just take them? Another entitled person.
@TG16_IS_BAE
Japan has a strong physical CD market. And everyone still has a fax machines. And you use pagers.
I have all the Splatoon CDs, as well as the box sets that came with a DVD of the live concerts and I think I love them more then just about anything in the world.
https://www.play-asia.com/music/soundtracks/14/71cy
@HeadPirate Look, I canāt take you seriously, because from your post #126, you sound like a racist, Japanese nationalist that hates all things outside your tiny island.
@HeadPirate I shouldn't have clicked that link, now I'm paying Ā£40 for that Legend of Zelda concert box set.
Perhaps the online service could include a spotty style music player? Just a suggestion, seeing as the service is so threadbare.
The corporate fanboyism I. This comment section is nauseating. This is why Iāve all but given up on the Nintendo community.
Yāall just believe that Nintendo can do no wrong and will come to their defense even though theyāre a corporation that doesnāt need it and try your best to put the dissenters down.
Itās just pathetic.
@SeantheDon29 No, we just don't agree with taking something you aren't entitled to.
@Trikeboy Funny how you are storming the comments section with your perceived entitlement issues, then wasting money on garbage.
Nintendo was always a rude company. Guess what they suck
@Trikeboy you mean like music that isnāt being sold outside of Japan and doesn't even make up a tiny fraction of Nintendoās profits?
This is a legal issue, not a moral one, pal. Stop being a tool.
You know Nintendo if you're going to be salty to your fans because of music. Why not just go make your own Nintendo soundtrack official channel and upload all you game music there so everyone can still listen to their favorite music.
@SeantheDon29 Iām legitimately surprised at the amount of people that choose to mindlessly support and defend a corporation that is literally only going to take as much money from them as they can tolerate.
@Mr_Persona 100% agreed. Nintendo is doing a lot of ānoā but arenāt replacing the ānoā with something else. If they were planning a music service or if they actually put their music up on iTunes, then I would mildly agree, but right now they are just stomping on their fans and on their reputation.
Implying that Nintendo cares what Twitter has to say
@TG16_IS_BAE
I don't even understand why the company is like this, the moment the 3ds came out, they started to get a little salty. I don't see them as a family company anymore now.
@SeantheDon29 You are aware of the internet? They can release a CD in Japan and you can buy it on the internet. It is weird we have to explain that in 2020. Go to PlayAsia, Amazon or even eBay and you can buy these "Japanese only" CDs.
@Mr_Persona Be glad they aren't Sony and they don't force entire websites to shut down. I'm still salty over LikSang being forced to close.
@Trikeboy but who knows they might become like that in the future
@JustMe another pathetic nintendo shill, moving along.
@Mr_Persona Well, stop stealing their products and maybe they will play nice in the future?
Fans: Lets illegally mod games, make programs that break their software, upload copies of their games to the internet, illegally upload music they created, make flashcarts so people can put roms onto hardware without buying games, and use IPs without permission.
Nintendo: Stop that.
Fans: OMG! Why are Nintendo so bad?
It's totally fair for them to do this, but I really love listening to the soundtracks for Nintendo games so it would be nice if there was an official alternative to YouTube playlists.
Its 1000% in their right to remove whatever music THEY made. They took down their own music, so what? They can take down whatever they please. Grow up
@sevex CDs of the soundtracks exist. You can find them online.
@TG16_IS_BAE - Google his UN followed by 'Lost Media Wiki'. He's done some disgusting shock videos under the guise of normal video game tracks before.
Nintendo could have easily monetized their videos or provided an official alternative. Instead, taking them down benefits no one and just destroys
even more of Nintendoās goodwill. Fans have a right to be angry about this. Every day nowadays it seems like Nintendo deliberately wants to piss them off.
@ianl579 "or provided an official alternative."
Like make official CDs of their music that can be sold online for anyone to buy?
Im starting to think, now this is just a thought, but it seems Nintendo isn't too fond of gamer geek culture. They prefer the casual market, and kids, casual gamers and kids don't bother themselves with these things.
But i think quite a lot of the gaming community gets annoyed with Nintendo when these things happen.
The problem for Nintendo is, the people who buy and reviews consoles and games are the gaming community who Nintendo is antagonising right now. The casuals don't follow if the experts (the gaming community) doesn't approve.
This is just a thought and maybe im wrong but it just seems like Nintendo would rather the hardcore gaming community not buy into their products.
Well, people upload music that is not theirs and get money by every play. Now they are upset, that the have to produce something original to earn money!?! Lol.
@Razer "Im starting to think, now this is just a thought, but it seems Nintendo isn't too fond of gamer geek culture."
Well, the casual market don't constantly do illegal stuff with the products they have created.
@Trikeboy but they tend to be missing tracks and the import costs are prohibitively expensive and all the track names are in Japanese. :/ It isn't crazy to ask why we can't buy the soundtracks over here. I'd pay for them, Nintendo
@Kieroni Ohh, so because it costs more, that makes it fine to illegally upload them? And, buy official CDs and the tracks won't be missing.
Can't understand why Nintendo doesn't just make them available to buy.
@wazlon they do
@Trikeboy my guy; Nintendo is not going to give you a free Nintendo Switch for Christmas. Stop with the shilling and stop trying to antagonize the community(which you clearly hate), weāre not impressed.
@Trikeboy I didn't say that, stop being nasty. I have Nintendo soundtracks, officially released in the west, with only a sliver of the tracks from the game. I don't know why you're being so angry in here, but you need to chill out.
@Trikeboy Since you know so much about soundtrack CDs, I'm hoping you can help me out. I would really like to buy the official Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze soundtrack, but no matter where I look, I can't seem to find it anywhere available for purchase. Do know where I can find it, or at least point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.
@SeantheDon29 I don't need a free Nintendo Switch. I already have two. And, stop your "shilling" thing. People can be opposed to over entitled fans and not be shills for a company you know. You want me to say something negative about the company? Easy. Fix your bloody joy-con problem Nintendo. Your business decisions during the Wii U era were stupid. No wonder the console only sold 13.5 million units.
@Trikeboy yeah i know which is why i think Nintendo might not like the market too much. Which isn't going to do Nintendo any favours... they canāt keep antagonising the community as they are.
The thing is, and the Wii U demonstrated exactly this point - Nintendo needs the gamers to accept their products until it becomes accepted by the casual market.
Casuals don't buy their games or consoles if nobody is talking about them in a positive way.
That starts with the hardcore gaming community. Nintendo needs this community if they want to be successful. Simple as that.
This will all end badly for Nintendo, not the gamers.
I hope Nintendo tries to make things right before this is the new norm... permanently.
@EmmatheBest Interesting. Pretty mild by internet standards, but I can see why some would find stuff like that gross or disgusting.
@CeeBee88 Did they ever release that as an OST? That might be why you can't buy it. Ohh, so, you are saying that just because Nintendo didn't release it, fans are allowed to hack into the game, steal the music and upload it to the internet?
@Trikeboy Stop shilling, please. Nintendo isn't going to give your poor-arse a free console. Unless you like licking boots, then continue being the corporate boot-licker that you are.
@Trikeboy You can't steal something that is readily available.
@Trikeboy Not at all, I legit want to get the soundtrack, it's one of my faves. Would be cool if Nintendo did give us an official way to purchase it, though.
@FluffiestP1llow It would be fair of them to do this if they also provided an alternative outside of esoteric CD collections. Wouldn't it be great if they took-down music AND THEN showed the world their new music service, ala spotify? Grow up.
@CeeBee88 Sadly I don't see any evidence of an official release for that soundtrack.
@Mr_Persona Nintendo is under new, over-controlling leadership, clearly.
What Nintendo is doing is so F-ing stupid.
https://www.amazon.com/nintendo-Soundtracks-CDs-Vinyl/s?k=nintendo&rh=n%3A42
@TG16_IS_BAE If Nintendo had a music service I would be happy. Until then, they are free to take down anything illegal done with their products. Even if Nintendo did make a paid for music service do you really think people would pay for it or would they go to the people who steal it and upload it for free?
@Trikeboy
They arenāt stealing anything. For the love of God, Nintendo isnāt going to give you the Medal of Honor for defending them here. Stop being a corporate simp.
i wise decision for Nintendo would be, to release the sountrack of it games on Spotify like Sega do or create it own streaming app to listen to it amazing music, Nintendo istance in it propeties, is getting ridiculous, let people listen to they favorite sountrack on Spotify or create it own App to do this.
@Trikeboy Do you work for Nintendo or something?
Imagine the reason for all of this was for people to have to bring their entire Switch with them to listen to the soundtracks found in-game, as advertised in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
@thedicemaster Wow, 2 whole soundtracks in that link! Nintendo is feeling generous!
Nintendo fans saw how toxic Sony fanboys were getting about the PS5 not being all it's cracked up to be and said...
"Not in my town hombre...."
@RandomAfricanGamer they aren't stealing? Oh, I didn't realize that they paid for distribution rights. My bad. What is your definition of people taking things that aren't theirs and uploading it to the internet if it isn't stealing?
Also, is shill the only word you know?
Edit: Ohh, you edited your comment and decided to change it to simp?
@TG16_IS_BAE Loads of soundtracks here: https://www.play-asia.com/music/soundtracks/14/71cy
@TG16_IS_BAE I see several Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, and Donkey Kong CD's and vinyls.
not all in stock right now, but it's a lot more than 2.
If the uploaders aren't trying to make money off the music, it doesn't hurt anyone for Nintendo to leave them there. If they are trying to make money, that's where the line is crossed and Nintendo should issue (at the very least) copyright claims rather than takedowns.
What Nintendo should do, though, is make an official Spotify channel to upload their music to, like Square Enix and Capcom have done. Granted, their library is much bigger than either of those companies and I pity the poor soul that would have to organize such a massive project, but it would be such a forward-thinking approach and get millions upon millions of hits.
At the end of the day, though: this is not something I'll get upset over. There are other, more important things to worry about than easy access to game music.
@thedicemaster I see 2 soundtracks and the rest of the links are for random Switch accessories.
@Trikeboy A true corporate shill, even spamming us with affiliate links.
@TG16_IS_BAE typical internet troll, moans about not enough things to buy then when a place to get more is shown, he moans again.
First of is the main head quarters in Japan that did it, why spam the UK??? Lol
Anyhow Nintendo is relicensing their material because they are still using it, no companies take care of their franchises like Nintendo. How many iterations have we have gotten of Ocarina of time, even Wind waker got an HD remake, we have Nintendo classics in the paid subscription which is 20 bucks a year and still growing, not mention the mini systems they release, to even the new Mario 3D all stars and that is just to name a few. To say Nintendo is just gonna let all there old or classic stuff die out means you know nothing about Nintendo. The reason they are cracking down is because they are still using all their IPs old or new the classic library is only gonna get bigger and more 3D all stars are coming in the future. Not to mention their is legal ways of listening to all this, you not wanting to pay is your problem. =:3
Nintendo's Twitter account- giving the illusion of communication between Nintendo and its fans since 2007.
I guess the solution is to download the OSTs from torrent sites.
A lot of corporate shills ITT.
Yup, someone who has no problem pointing out the mistakes the company has made is a corporate shill. Sticking with cartridges when the CD age started? Huge mistake and seriously damaged the N64. Making an overpowered Gamecube when they knew the PS4 and Xbox One were coming soon after the Wii U launched? The marketing of the Wii U. Being ***** to Sony during the development of the Playstation in the 90s. They created their own competition and are still playing catchup. The way they are handling the Joy-Con drift problem, or should I say not handling it. Nintendo have done a lot of ***** over the years.
@Trikeboy
Haha, I know your pain
To say that you can't listen to the music anywhere now is just ignorant, as there's plenty of options, like for example buying the soundtrack CDs off ebay, playing the ripped files from the game, or listening to the songs on any of the other numerous websites with Nintendo music. The first two options are even superior to listening on YouTube in terms of sound quality.
@HeadPirate Spoken like a true American.
@G-Boy Good luck finding the OST to Shatterhand and other obscure soundtracks.
@Trikeboy Itās the Nintendo VP of marketing, right here in the comments! I didnāt know how much of a shill this guy is, but there you go!
@TG16_IS_BAE Is that the only insult you know?
@Trikeboy It's the only behavior you are displaying.
Nintendo should officially put their music on YouTube or Spotify if they want people to stop uploading their music to YouTube.
Nintendo should just put their OSTs on Apple Music and call it a day. Enjoy lots of bonus revenue and make fans happy.
Well, I thought we had gone a bit too long without a 'crap on Nintendo for doing something they are fully and legally entitled to do' bandwagon article.
Can't wait to see tomorrows, always keeps me guessing what 'fans' believe they are entitled to.
@fafonio I definitely agree and I believe that a Nintendo Gaming Spotify Service would be a fantastic idea for Nintendo to utilize.
@westman98 Yeah, do something they clearly don't want to do so entitled "fans" don't steal their stuff.
Go guys! Nintendo is not doing the right thing right now.
This is so frakking stupid. Entitled whiny children think they are entitled to just take whatever they want and do whatever they want with it. Grow the hell up?
You can not just steal copywritten work. I don't care if you stick "I don't own this" in front of the upload.
And this article really comes off as in favor of the so-called fans. Shame on the writer if that's the case. Maybe you'll be cool with it if I start reuploading Your work on another site without your permission? hmm?
I want a new car, but they are so expensive. I know what to do, I will go to a dealer, take it for a test drive and just take it. I'm sure the dealership will be completely fine with me taking it, right? I doubt they will try and get it back.
Itās like the #freemelee trolling. People donāt understand that just because they want something, that doesnāt make it some righteous civil rights cause to fight for.
In no circumstance is Nintendo going to officially endorse emulation, regardless of what the justification is. You donāt have to like it, heck even I donāt like it. But it is what it is and spamming their Twitter on every tweet isnāt going to change their policy toward emulation.
Nintendoās Twitter has become a nonstop protest. Itās always something. And while at first I might have had some sympathy towards the cause, all of that has been lost now. Iām tired of seeing it clog up their Twitter to the point I canāt even read a Monster Hunter Rise post without hundreds of mindless protest posts about one thing or another.
Itās absolutely absurd.
@JustMe I wish I knew which 16 people liked your comment, so I could Ignore them too. Culture is private! Bow before the corporation! Forever!
@JaxonH It's 2020 outrage culture online. Don't like something? Throw a tantrum on social media claiming you're entitled to it.
What was once an important means for social change and expression is rapidly devolving into a medium for whiny children who think they should be entitled to just take anything they want whenever they want.
Not sure what the problem is. Itās their property, music artists do it all the time and no-one batters an eyelid. If you love the music; buy it. Simple really.
@sanderev I would be violating the rules of this forum if I candidly told you what I think of your comments here.
I wonder - have you ever consumed alcohol or imbibed marijuana? Be honest now, just with yourself. You might want to think about that in the context of laws and mores, and their longevity. I have nothing but contempt for arguments that rest entirely on plodding legalistic slogans. Rules should serve humanity, not the other way 'round.
But if you're going to err on the side of mega-corporations, I'll spare you any further reasoning, and just let you know that your side always loses. Culture is not a commodity like beer, or cars, or Joy-Cons. It's not something I can rob from you (unless, that is, you let me). It goes out into the minds of people and lives there. Let me know when you have the force to change that.
It's called copyright so as much as this sucks they're within their right to do this and spamming a Twitter account won't do anything at all. Honestly this fandom can be so immature sometimes.
@TheLightSpirit It is immature to believe that for-profit corporations are not moved by the discontent of their audiences.
You might want to educate yourself on the history of copyright, and the manner in which mega-corporations have perverted it.
Nintendo didn't upload those albums so they are illegal uploads.
@Trikeboy "Nintendo" is a corporation, not a person. When Nintendo's great musical talent profits in the same way that Koichi Sugiyama does, I'll be more tolerant of this argument. Copyright was meant to benefit creators, not corporations.
it is what it is and spamming their Twitter on every tweet isnāt going to change their policy toward emulation.
@JaxonH Hey, you must be telepathic! Tell us, what else is Nintendo thinking? Since we all know that Nintendo is never swayed by audience response, and everyone protesting is suffering from entitlement (God knows, democracies don't function on protest and two-way communication!), we have no legitimate way to communicate with them, right? We need people like you, joined at the hip, to tell us what Nintendo thinks.
And this, children, is what we call "identifying with a mega-corporation"... known loosely, on the networks, as "fanboy behaviour".
@JaxonH
Even when the Nintwitter community isn't outraged about something, it's still not a pleasant to read. It's just the same memes reposted over and over time and begging for something else unrelated to the post.
There's honestly more insight in the average Nintendo video's comment section on Youtube and that's really sad.
Never have a I seen the phrase āpeople that donāt know how it worksā said by more people that clearly donāt know how it works themselves.
@Stocksy @Dr_Corndog @Prizm The way things work... yeah. I'm old enough to remember how people of earlier generations would have reacted to the Internet, if you had told them how it worked. A massively distributed network under the oversight of no single government, allowing people (even now) significant anonymity in communication and publishing, and resting overwhelmingly on the principle of free services and free knowledge? Sorry, I've got nothing but contempt for the lack of perspective on display here.
@JaxonH Yeah, the freemelee folks are stupid. Nintendo had absolutely no issue with Smash Ultimate being part of the line up. Only when these idiots started their complaining did Nintendo double down. All the tournament organizers had to do was just say "well, we had to remove Melee since it cannot be played online." and nothing further would have happened.
@fafonio nah, Nintendo barely knows what the internet is
@COVIDberry
Itās not āidentifyingā with anyone, itās speaking truth. It has nothing to do with fanboyism, and simply attacking your opponents viewpoint by misrepresenting their intentions is a logical fallacy.
āI canāt debate their point on merit, so Iāll just accuse them of fanboyism and defending a corporationā isnāt a viable argument. But Iām not surprised, given thatās the same kind of irrational mindset most of todayās youth possess.
As if opposing a corporation somehow automatically makes you correct, or being a corporation automatically makes them wrong. Wisdom is justified by her children by judging rightly irrespective who whoās making the argument. And if ābut theyāre a corporationā is part of your argument, then you never had an argument to begin with (but that much was evident already).
And for the record, the only one here thatās being fanatical... is you.
Would be nice to find all their music on Spotify. Notably Xenoblade Chronicles X's soundtrack.
Welcome to the world Sony and Square built.
Also, let's all note that if I make a comic character that you like, you don't get to claim it as your own.
Uploading that music is essentially what you're attempting to do.
@COVIDberry I'm not giving my opinion. I'm just stating the facts according to the law. And no I don't do drugs or alcohol. Sorry.
@Dr_Corndog If you, as an artist, upload music to youtube you'll get money from youtube when people watch ads on your music video's. So yeah, artists like uploading their own music to youtube. However: there is no law that requires all music to be uploaded to youtube.
@Prizm BY LAW it's up to NINTENDO to do whatever they want with their music. Sure they could've just content id matched the videos, but that also gives a clear message that it's okay to steal from Nintendo. Which it is not.
@JaxonH You absolutely do not know what Nintendo thinks, any more than I do. That is the only truth I can draw from your words.
I'm not giving my opinion. I'm just stating the facts according to the law. And no I don't do drugs or alcohol. Sorry.
@sanderev That's good - because if you have ever consumed so much as a drop, you were committing a jailable offense according to the law... at a particular time and place. Only now, you wouldn't be. Something to think about with your plonking, dogmatic "THE LAW IS THE LAW" bulls***.
@COVIDberry If you want things to change, you will have to change the law. It's very simple. So, create a partition to redefine the copyright law so uploading to youtube without the owner's consent is legal and I will happily upload music to youtube.
But right now, where I live, and where almost everyone here lives it's illegal to upload copyrighted works to Youtube.
Also if I would use drugs or alcohol here where I live it actually wouldn't be illegal for to do so. I just think that it's unwise to do so.
Like I said, I don't give my opinion. Since I really would love to see copyright be redefined and allow for more fair use content. That's also not the point I am trying to make.
My point is you shouldn't attack Nintendo, or anyone, for obeying the law. Even if you disagree with it.
@sanderev I... never said there was? Not at all sure how you got that out of my comment.
@Steel76 well you didn't ever buy it so yep you cannot listen to it.
Nintendo is well within their rights and I support it completely. If you want to listen to or play these games buy the systems and games and play them. More classic gaming and actually owning the stuff and less downloading, bugs, docs and not actually owning anything crap.
@TG16_IS_BAE I haven't heard of one single obscure game soundtrack that was uploaded on YT but not anywhere else on the internet. And Shatterhand is on Zophar's Domain: https://www.zophar.net/music/nintendo-nes-nsf/shatterhand
@G-Boy Thatās a download, not a CD : )
But I have visited that site many times, it helps for the stuff that never got released.
Everyone that has complained about this and joycon drift, you only care about complaining about everything cuz it isn't good enough. The music will live in, it doesn't have to be through YouTube! Imagine, twinkle twinkle little star song never really was a song. Yet, it is still remembered! They have a right to say they don't want there work to be reposted on youtube. They have a reason for what they are doing, and it's not like we'll ever forget it. And as for joycon drift, you have to wait at least one year for drift to start, and it is usually fixable by calibration! Oh, and you can send the joycon back to nintendo to fix it, or by the joystick yourself and repair it! Things wear out, especially for an item so small. So, let this be a lesson, STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT EVERY SINGLE LITTLE THING.
I love how all the fanboys here still find a way to defend this.
Nintendo is the only company that goes this far with their ips.
A youtube video isn't going to hurt anyone.
Especially if Nintendo isn't providing any alternatives.
So I say keep saving their music.
@iLikeUrAttitude From what I've read, nobody is "defending" Nintendo. You have one side that is acknowledging the legality of Nintendo's actions. The other side is trying to justify Trolling, and resulting to childish name-calling (i.e. Fanboy and Corporate Shill).
Nobody is saying that they WANT Nintendo to do this, but only that legally they have every right to do so. It sucks that it is playing out this way, however, is it really that much of a surprise? Nintendo has always been overly protective of their Ips, for better or for worse.
nintendo's customer support is just absolutely terrible anyways, my nin acct got banned (non hacked switch), i emailed them they took 34 days to respond with "yes it has been banned, i can not tell you why and no the suspension will not be lifted" useless.
Oh it would be nice if people didn't repeat 'it's legal for Nintendo to do this'.
I mean, do these people think that others are claiming it's illegal or do they just enjoy telling everyone what we already know.
There was even a post above that said 'no company is required to put their soundtracks on YouTube'. Did that person think that they were educating anyone? Did they think that there were people in the comment section that thought Nintendo was REQUIRED to put their music on YouTube?
@Trikeboy eh, I'll stop pirating their music if they start being smarter with it. Privileged? Pssh, yeah? They're a company. They exist to make profits off of MY satisfaction. If they aren't satisfying ME with their services by letting their music be easily accessible then of course I will take it into my own hands. Is it reasonable to expect me to boot up a whole system and game just for me to listen to 1 song from legend of zelda, and then another from mario kart? Nope. I'll just download their songs it's easier and more convenient since they don't have their own music store/service. And are they losing a single penny by me doing this? Nope. I still paid for their game. So they might as well let the soundtracks be on YouTube somehow. It's a customer service issue not a pricing issue.
This youtuber was doing monetization of Nintendo music. I think that's why they took him out.
I stopped seeing his videos because they were filled with promp videos. I love having Nintendo music spreed all over the internet... but I don't feel happy when I see those videos filled with publicity. This kills the mod and they don't own any right to do money with the works of othera.
And everyone was sure they were singling out Capt. Alex. š
(...not playing this time though, lol.)
@the4seer Idk saying "nintendo has every right to do so and people are just being entitled" sounds like defending to me.
That still doesn't change the fact that no other company acts like this with their ips like Nintendo.
This is very anti consumer, especially when no other alternatives are provided by nintendo.
thing is trying to use piracy through youtube to preserve something is never useful and will ultimately achieve nothing. Never heard of torrents ? That's the way. At least be efficient
Am I the only one not shocked by this response made by Nintendo? It's in their blood so deal w/ it.
I've purchased enough Nintendo games in my life to feel like I don't really need to buy any of their music. I'll steal it if I have to. Don't really care either. It's not hurting them.
Is Youtube still a thing?
I'm sure there will be a majority of people defending Nintendo, like they always do. Just pirate everything. Not that it do it, it's what Nintendo wants though.
Gamers out here not understanding how intellectual property law works. Or not caring
What do they want us to do? Use Smash Bros for the music using that feature nobody uses!? If people want to listen to your music, let them listen to your music. Simple as that.
This wouldnāt be such an issue if Nintendo would make soundtracks easily accessible at a fair price. So theyāre really earning peopleās agitation and ire.
@iLikeUrAttitude It's not Anti-Consumer because you're not paying Youtube or Nintendo to listen to the music. Also, please keep in mind, that you are claiming a moral high ground on the foundation of property that doesn't belong to you.
Just because you think that you know how to use someone else's property better than they can, does not give you the right to proceed without consequence.
Lastly, I think that the whole situation sucks. There was a time when all of this media was extremely easy to find. Those times were a privilege, not a reward for loving Nintendo. There are so many other avenues available to people to deal with this challenge, other than what's being reported in the article.
@Ooyah I believe the correct term would be "heveled", since the "dis-" is part of the prefix on "disheveled"
@Zidentia indeed it is, and millions of people still watch it every day
I can't remember any sort of major ban of Nintendo's lasting since people are constantly reuploading stuff, especially if there are take downs like with music. People also have short memories, so it's always a minor inconvenience in the long run since the music comes back. It kind of makes me want to download some songs from Youtube as MP3's so I have them on hand, and don't have to look hem up again.
Also, good to know Nintendo's Twitter comments are going to be obnoxious and off-topic as always.
At this point, they had it coming. Yeah, I know I'm in the minority here considering almost all of the comments I've seen are people whining about how "entitled" gamers are but I have to be blunt. Nintendo has made so many terrible moves as of late and I'm glad people are finally striking back (myself included on that Tweet) instead of just settling for it because "it's Nintendo".
Don't forget that these companies are not perfect and your favorite developers are not Gods/Goddesses who are incapable of doing harm. At the end of the day, it's business and they're here to take our money. If they do ***** wrong, they should have to face the consequences just like anyone else.
@the4seer It doesn't matter if its not "my property" it doesn't make Nintendo immune to criticism.
"Just because you think that you know how to use someone else's property better than they can, does not give you the right to proceed without consequence."
Proceed what? Are you referring to the people that upload nintendos music on youtube or other platforms?
Yes it sucks that Nintendo feels the need to take down music without providing any alternatives and making themselves look like idiots.
It's depressing what some people regard as 'content' these days. And Nintendo are under no obligation to make it even less effort for anyone.
Jeez!
Fair play to N. They are well within their rights to take it down. Should they have tho? Does it majorly impact them that people are listning to the music? I dont think so personally. If anything, people could be stumbling on the music and then wanting to expierience the game too. Thus leading to a sale š¤·āāļø
@GTHOLLAND mainly due to video game music usually not having lyrics so it makes for better background noise, also just because you have no interest in it doesn't mean everyone shouldn't
@RetroOutcast yeah this is turning into a big issue for them, it's not one problem, it's a collection of many problems.
The Joys con Drift.
The poor online infrastructure in 2020.
The situation with the Smash community.
The situation with the Etiks joy cons.
The situation with the YouTube community
And now this.
This doesn't include how draconian they normally are in their actions anyway.
@the4seer "they have always protected their IPs for better or for worse".
I have a feeling this will be worse, much worse than what they could possibly expect.
It's one thing after another now, their making a lot of huge PR mistakes and it'll hurt them if this continues.
@smithpa01
Just thought it was weird is all. Like these cosplay idiots prancing about in Zelda inspired costumes.
@GTHOLLAND how about you let people enjoy their life however they want to it isn't affecting you
@Razer i kind of feel bad for their social media person, but at the same time, itās probably the only way the higher ups are actually going to notice or pay attention. Itās not like writing letters or emails is going to do ***** all of anything about the situation.
@Danny429
Indeed I was being facetious but millions of people cant be wrong now can they?
@smithpa01
They can. I'm only giving an opinion like you are. If grown adults want to dress up and listen to video game music then that is up to them. Just dont be surprised when people take the Michael out of them. The world is full of people with Star Trek outfits in their wardrobe.
@Prizm Has Nintendo ever claimed royalties for people using their IP? They have (or had? Not sure) their strict partnership program and have always been extremely aggressive with their IP protection. So straight up using their property and getting all the videos banned shouldn't come as a surprise. I'm astonished some people still expect it to work. Hopefully what they just did means we will soon find all their music on legal streaming services. I'm not holding my breath though...
What are they losing with these videos? GilvaSunner is not making any money from these videos. What's the big deal?
@JustMe Nintendo bootlicker I see
I'm not sure how this sort of thing generates controversy. If you were to upload the Beatles Anthology to Youtube....you know what would happen. Why would anyone expect different of Nintendo content?
That said they better not touch ACNH's uploaded soundtracks as that's literally the only possible way to hear the intro music of the first days on the island about without deleting your island. Make it a song KK can provide, and it no longer matters.
Funny how I didn't know about this.
Fans: I sure do love listening to this nintendo music!
Nintendo: We're taking this all down because we don't make any money from it.
Fans: So...can we buy it from you then?
Nintendo: No.
@NEStalgia The difference is that you can go buy the Beatles Anthology somewhere else. You can't buy old NES soundtracks. And nintendo has no intention of selling it.
They just don't want it up there. It's the 'Please remember our great old games but never play them' problem between people playing roms because companies won't release the games again.
Nintendo seriously needs to stop blocking the posting of their music, is very unnecessary and very hurtful!
The real problem is the removal of content without offering a replacement on any widely available platform, whether it be streamed, individually purchased or otherwise.
Spoiled kids these days. Back then we had to import CD soundtracks from Japan for 50 bucks a pop. And nowadays we can still do it the old way. Music is often the best part of a game. Should Nintendo give it away for free? Yeah, of course, we want these great musicians to live under bridges.
However, since the launch of the Wii (Shop Channel) I imagined how cool it would be to have game soundtracks as a download. And since Switch can be used as a portable music player there's hope they investigate that idea.
@Dalrint Most likely there's a Japan-only soundtrack out there they're protecting. Plus the right to resell the content in a limited fashion at some point in the future.
I get that people want stuff that's not around, and that's cool, but complaining when a company says "no, we own that and aren't distributing it" doesn't make sense. They own it. If they want to pull it off the market, that's fair. Back 25 years ago if you wanted music to Donkey Kong Country you held a tape recorder up to your TV....or you searched for a Japanese soundtrack in some export catalogue or something. We ended up in a weird place with Youtube where people decided "because I can distribute whatever I want, I have the right to distribute whatever I want, and nobody should be allowed to stop me!" People grew up with flagrant violations of rules and then expected that the rules themselves should be obsolete because they weren't enforced.
@NEStalgia Here's the problem with that. People will find a way to listen to it. It was harder to do back then, but that doesn't matter. People always find a way, and corporations try to stop them. Your very example of 'recording the music onto a tape recorder from your tv' was considered illegal by corporations until the courts stopped them.
All nintendo is doing is forcing people to look somewhere else because they won't provide a product that doesn't exist. You can say that's their right, and you aren't wrong, but people are going to fill the demand somehow.
@Dalrint They probably will. But when they do it obviously in a searchable index with copyright controls....it's going to be stopped. One would assume it would be stopped before posting it to begin with.
People here going to bat for Nintendo don't realise that this sort of stuff doesn't hurt nintendo. If anything it helps keep the community alive.
Nintendo aren't protecting their IPs or their current profits. They are actively attacking the community in the off chance they may want to charge the community for the same content again later on.
There's a reason that this is only an issue with Nintendo.
@sanderev Actually you do, its called fair use.
@TG16_IS_BAE you act like youtube is the only to listen to these tracks. Its not, don't be ridiculous. That said however, I do agree that this is stupid and will more than likely hurt nintendo more than help, especially with everything else happening with them.
@FluffiestP1llow If you saw my phones playlists, you would realize how silly you sound.
@TG16_IS_BAE If you have all the tracks you want, why complain? They have every right to remove whatever they want to anyway. If you dont have the tracks, why complain? YouTube isn't the only way you can obtain the songs. I'm sure you can rip them from your copy of the game and if not then get it online, via download or disc if its supported. Its not the end of the world.
@FluffiestP1llow Who said Iām complaining? Stop making stuff up, yikes.
@TG16_IS_BAE I never said you were? I meant a good portion of the nintendo community is complaining about it. I'm not making stuff up lmao
@FluffiestP1llow Sorry, itās my first time posting my bad
@Zidentia ah, well sorry I didn't catch the sarcasm, but I don't know what you're talking about in the second half of your reply. All I was saying was that YouTube is still very popular/that it's "still a thing", you seem to have inferred something from that.
@Danny429
Well, there are multiple layers in my comment so I will leave it at that. Happy Holidays.
@Sandro89 no, āarchivistsā that were too lazy to buy the sound tracks shouldāve expected this.
