PlatinumGames has released an update for The Wonderful 101: Remastered on Switch, PS4 and Steam, bringing the game to Version 1.0.2.
There aren't any particularly Earth-shattering changes to speak of, but the tweaks that have been made will still please any fans who have been offering feedback since release. You can see the full (and pretty short) patch notes below.
We’ve released an update for The Wonderful 101: Remastered for Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Steam. This update will bring the game up to Ver. 1.0.2.
About the update:
- Adjusted scoring for certain stages to allow higher totals
- Switched main and subscreen for easier play in certain mini-games
- Made the subscreen automatically display when going to Operation Select
PlatinumGames producer Atsushi Inaba and director Hideki Kamiya recently shared their interest in developing a sequel to The Wonderful 101. While nothing has been confirmed as of yet, the pair agreed that any potential sequel would have to be "bigger and better" than the original.
Have you bought The Wonderful 101: Remastered on Switch? How have you been getting on? Let us know in the comments.

What a joke. Good thing that Kickstarter denied my credit card. Dodged a bullet there. Specially when all my friends that got the physical version haven't recieved that yet and will have to pay extra fees.
I backed it for a Digital Copy and am perfectly happy. I've seen many KS projects go south when it comes to physical items, and Platinum is a great game development studio but no publisher. Taking all that into account, I knew a code wouldn't be terribly risky
Good luck with kickstarter a sequel.
Selling my Kickstarter copy on kijiji as we speak. The game didn’t do it for me and played a few levels before putting it aside. Dunno what all the hype is about.
Not my cup of tea.
Mighty Failure ...
Despite being critical of the Kickstarter, I did get my copy in the end and I was pleased with the backers cover and I've really enjoyed playing the game again.
I think we should forget everything for a moment and just acknowledge that awesome sub title for the article
@TimboSlice I was a little confused by the hype too. When it was released for the Wii U back in 2014, it was mostly greeted with shrugs. You're often hear people say, "(Fill in the blank) is a great game, too bad it's trapped on the Wii U." I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone put Wonderfull 101 in that blank.
@TheFox
It was a great game though, but its pretty weird and not for everyone. You either love it or hate it.
It’s in my top 5 games of all time. It plays to a certain crowd though and it doesn’t surprise me that people bounce off of it.
Working through hard mode now after getting a Platinum rank on all normal mode stages and getting some of the secret characters. Received my kickstarter copy with no issues but I also live in the US. Will see how it goes for all the extra merch when that comes out I suppose.
@TimboSlice I played on the Wii U so don't know the differences with the Switch version, but I would say this game truly benefits from mid game upgrades that add more abilities. That's when it started clicking for me. But it definitely is a weird game.
@KillerBOB I could see that game having a small but enthusiastic fan base since it is definitely unique. But in addition to the middle of the road reviews, a little anecdotal sampling, when my Miiverse friends and I would talk about our favorite games, no one ever mentioned this game. And in NL comments where everyone is always begging for ports, I don't remember this game coming up until the Kickstarter was already underway. But every game finds someone to love it. I thought Devil's Third was amazing
@TheFox
Devil's Third was always a game I wanted to try, but I never got around to it haha
Got my Kickstarter copy a few weeks ago but I really don’t have any motivation to play it after the way I was treated as a backer. I loved the game on Wii U and I know I’ll get around to playing it again on Switch eventually, but in the meantime I learned the valuable lesson to never, ever support anything on Kickstarter ever again.
@thesilverbrick I think Kickstarter is fine if you stick to the smaller guys with more realistic goals. Like Ex Zodiac (best Starfox clone I've seen yet, probably even better than Nintendo's efforts).
That being said....
I'm just glad I got a Steam copy of W:101 with my physical. I'll flip the Switch copy 2-3 years from now
frame rate - fix it
Moral of the story is, I probably won’t ever Kickstart a game ever again.
My first experience was with Shenmue 3 which was an atrocious experience and I vowed to never do that again after what a distaste it left in my mouth. But then I thought Wonderful 101 was really charming on WiiU so I took the chance again. It wasn’t nearly as bad an experience to be honest. The 3D slipcover is nicely done, but I don’t know that it was worth the extra money over buying the game at Best Buy.
Which leads me to my real question, where is the DLC?? We were told that Kickstarter backers would receive DLC for “free” with our backer order. How? When? Has this ever been discussed or just forgotten? Asking genuinely.
I played and enjoyed this game on the WiiU but haven't downloaded the Switch version yet. It's on the wishlist for a possible deep discount at some stage in thr future
@KillerBOB Even if you can track down a copy of Devil's Third, it may not be worth it. Most people thought the online multiplayer was the good part of the game. Even the critics that slammed Devil's Third grudgingly admitted the online was pretty good. But that's long gone. While I loved the multiplayer, I also really enjoyed the single player campaign which of course is all you'd get if you bought it now. But it is the single player that was plagued by technical problems. Although I thought the critics were unfair to the game, they weren't lying about the graphical and frame rate problems. The game's been memed to death, so I don't see this ever happening, but I think it would be worth it to resurrect the online for the Switch. Sure, the Switch has Fortnite and Overwatch, but if you wanted something a little less cartoony for an online shooter, Devil's Third would fill a vacant niche.
Was wary about the negativity surrounding the Switch performance but I think it runs great. KS physical backer here and received it last month with no extra fees in Canada so I’m a happy camper.
@bluemage1989 It is pretty funny
Not even a spec of performance updates...
@TheFox i was also a big fan of Devils Third. Seems kind of right though that it is locked to the WiiU, an under appreciated game on an under appreciated console.
I'm yet to recieve my copy of the game for backing it...
I played it for the first time on Switch. I’d say the game is more impressive than it is fun.
If you like constant ridiculous anime style battles (Godzilla-esque) then you’re likely to enjoy it. Again, some of the game mechanics are impressive but can also be frustrating.
@TheFox The game garnered critical acclaim from multiple places, the metacritic score does not do it justice however, it had 78, because of a few mixed reviews, otherwise, when you see the finer details, everyone enjoyed their time with the game and to be honest, this is the only game that used the gamepad to it's fullest.
@Sakisa
Your profile pic is actually from one of -my- top 5 favourites haha. Which others do you rank alongside W101?
@Fugue Always nice to see another Sin & Punishment fan! I also rank Sin & Punishment 2, Skies of Arcadia, Banjo-Kazooie, and SMT Strange Journey in my top 5.
@Sakisa
I never played SMT or Arcadia but Banjo Kazooie is a good pick. Amazing game. Its better than any 3d Mario game I think.
@Zyph I know the notes didn’t mention performance updates, but I wonder if there was any small improvements made that weren’t mentioned... sort of a way to work on it a bit without acknowledging any problems.
Or maybe there’s even been an update since this one. I’m finally about to crack open my physical copy, so I’ll find out...
