Considering that the Octo expansion is single player only (?), I think it would be a good idea to issue a standalone retail release for it a la New Super Luigi U.

I realise that it is unlikely, but Nintendo has gone completely overboard with DLC this generation, and I hate the thought of spending so much money on content that is tied to a single console.

I had an inkling (no pun intended) about seeing those many Octo level vids. Thought they were spoilerish, I wanted to tackle them by myself. I was right that if they were giving away that much info, theyd have to make a smooth transition to the Octo Expansion and that can only happen around E3 time, and they did. So happy with the release time.

I bought it this morning on UK eshop. How do I access it? Do I have to wait till tomorrow for it to unlock?

@BensonUii Yep I think it's because I played it a lot on the Wii U, I felt I should give it a breather and try something different for a while. I only own two major releases from last year, Zelda and Mario Odyssey, plus a selection of arcade shooters which I constantly go back to for that quick arcade fix.

I really enjoyed the single player on the original Splatoon, and this combo of the single plus Octo is very tempting.

I dunno, I liked the final battle in Splatoon 1 better. It was more epic, IMO :-/

Now don't be afraid to rush through if you just want to unlock that Octoling, you can always go back later. And there are things to do post-game, too. I completed around 32 stages, but it could be done with less (28 or less, depending if you know where to go).

Without spoiling anything, I gotta say the build up to the end is more cinematic, exciting, and challenging than the end of the base game campaign. So much so that they probably could have mashed the 2 campaigns together and make the most epic Splatoon campaign mode ever, or at the very least use the Octo Expansion AS the story mode for Splatoon 2!

And now it's time to sleep...
