What a shame. People always give film tie-in games a hard time for being a comparatively substandard experience... but this truly stood tall alongside its source material as a bland, forgettable cash-in whose existence is owed entirely to contract and licensing pragmatism.
It's not really the console's quality and suches I'm worried about. No, I'm worried it won't matter how good or bad it turns out to be. The gaming consumer base has changed so much from what it was when the Wii became a success.
Around the same time came the rise of the other kind of casual gamer; those that exclusively play the annually released sports, car, and shooter games. Their number is not to be underestimated and without them on board the Switch is likely to be viewed as a moderate sales success at best.
But then, those same people would probably give an arm and a leg to get those games rolling on the go. Ergo, the battery life has to be good and Nintendo are pretty much going to have to deliver on every single lofty promise they make, at a good price point at that. Unlike politicians, they can't afford to get away with compromising their goals here.
I'm as cautiously neutral as Nintendo and their head-in-the-sand business tactics has given any man reason to in the past decade.
@therealgamer I must admit, his eccentric taste in headwear leaves me doubting his journalistic integrity to massive extents. Well, that and his being a noisy, vacuous clickmonger.
It's a nice tribute and all, but the old art just has such evocative majesty to it. The comparative lack of detail and sharp contours give it an impressionist vibe conducive to imagination; at the very least, mine.
It's akin to the whole Disney Golden Age vs. Renaissance aesthetics. The newer backgrounds look crisp and detailed but just lack the heart, soul and passionate craftsmanship of the old classics, not least for said having being born of the painstaking labor of human hands.
Kirkhope's always come off as a poor man's David Wise two times over, with only the shallowest of understandings of the idiosyncrasies that made the work of the latter so sublimely magnificent and versatile.
Though to be fair, his noisy, over-exuberant, and grating aesthetics couldn't be more of a perfect fit for Minio-err, Rabbids, could it.
The ball's in Nintendo's court now. Only time will tell if they'll score a slam dunk, or lose possession due to traveling (read: complacency and/or idiocy) like 83,7% of the time.
A new year offers new opportunities... among them the opportunity to fail, naturally. If only for the poor NL staff who have to try their darndest to put a positive spin on the state of things, they can't afford to blow it again.
The Arkham footage is more Origins Blackgate than Asylum, especially the stiff, stilted animation is a dead ringer. But in the end, stripped-down ports that only served to highlight the Wii's technical limitations is probably the last thing it needed.
Just the final nail in the coffin of a year for which a hypothetical year-encompassing "What will you get" poll would come dangerously close to force me to tick the "Nothing for me this year" option.
Using an arm as a metaphor for the SNES vs. SEGA CD "rivalry" does little but conjure up images of the truck stop arm wrestling episode of Dexter's Laboratory. Only, the latter never got any kind of a souped-up robot arm to prevent the NC-17 rated results that would realistically ensue.
David and Goliath? More like a yellow Pikmin versus Galactus.
In retrospect, 30-something journeyman gamers who tried too hard to be totally rad, hip, and bodacious make for much more tolerable presenters than the loud, phony and obnoxious businessmen that make up a majority of YouTube Gaming.
I just gotta say it: I hate translucent shells for electronic devices. It makes everything look like a cheap toy. That's something they should leave behind, dead and broken, in the '90s where such affronts to style and design belong.
I abstain from making a third vote because aside from TP HD and Spirit of Justice, there is nothing I care about and/or consider to be on the same level as said.
I wish the Men in Black would come and delete all my knowledge of this wretched year with one of their neuralyzing pen thingies.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy I'm not the one casting aspersions of character on some random person I don't even know merely for voicing their opinion, here. That's the kind of childish, knee-jerk behaviour that tends to get people into trouble at parties around these parts, friend.
Real heroes don't buy clothing. They dig them up from dusty, mold-riddled old chests, or receive them as gifts for carpet-bombing children of mountain people.
@gamermole I'm glad Nintendo dropped the idea of the console manipulating the laws of space and time to display a watermark whenever you look at the thing. Now that's gimmicky!
It's inconsistent and poor form to use an acronym for only one of the teams mentioned. You lose again, Mr. Internet Writer. And don't give me that "Seattle has no acronym" excuse. You're the writer; figure it out.

Will it even matter if she turns out to be right or not? You'll still continue to parrot her every minute somewhat-kinda-maybe-legit post regardless.

Why not provide English game titles while you're making the effort? Preferably without the aid of Google Translate.

I sense another wasted character slot in the next inevitable Smash game that will come out regardless of Sakurai's neurotic complaining.

In other news, the sky is blue, and Bioware have yet to come up with a good ending for a game.

A safe, dependable cross-console account system for when your console inevitably one day decides to make like Brick Tamland.
