Back in November there were reports from multiple sources that Ubisoft would be producing an RPG for the Nintendo Switch, serving as a crossover between the Mario series and the Rabbids universe. You can read what we had to say about it here.
Today we might have a hint as to who will be scoring the title, with Laura Kate Dale releasing a series of tweets stating that well-known composer Grant Kirkhope would be lending his talents.
As always, don't count this as full confirmation that the title exists. Rumours are rumours, and while Kate Dale's recent record is strong nothing is official until it's fully presented to the public.
Kirkhope would certainly be a popular choice if he is involved; his past credits include various titles at Rare - such as Banjo-Kazooie - and he's also signed up as a contributor to Yooka-Laylee.

Didn't he also do a few stages on Tropical Freeze?
@Spoony_Tech No, Tropical Freeze's soundtrack was done completely by David Wise.
Tagging Grant Kirkhope in the reveal was a really degrading move by Laura.
A rumor of a rumor?
Rumorception.
@AlphaJaguar
You are so right. Not very classy.
Then again, i am not charmed by all these leakers who seem to be so popular lately. A personal thing, i know.
@AlphaJaguar We've seen quite often lately that Laura is not the most mature person.
These Nintendo crossovers have made me try out a lot of franchises I haven't tried before like dynasty warriors and Tekken. This one doesn't sound so good.
Yeah, don't like that Laura posted that. I feel bad for Grant.
As for the actual rumor, if you think about what the tone of a Mario/Rabbids crossover RPG would likely be, then Grant Kirkhope is the perfect fit.
Just whatever you do, don't call it "Super Mario RPG 2". I believe you'll anger people to high heaven with that.....
At this point I am surprised to see that Grant Kirkhope even needs introducing, as far as video game soundtrack composers go he is a legend. Right up there with Koji Kondo in my opinion. I guess some lesser informed people might not have heard of him though.
Too bad I'm avoiding this game like the plague.
@Niinbendo *she
@Dpishere I had never heard of him until now.
@Joeynator3000
Why? We haven't even seen it yet...
I'm no fan of Rabbids myself but, I'm going to judge the game on its merit and nothing else. After all, seldom are Mario games bad, particularly launch Mario games.
Despite my disdain of Rabbids, there's a good chance this game could be great. Chance it may not turn out great of course... but I guess we'll find out.
@JaxonH Because to me the Rabbids are just like the Minions, and recently, Toads...I'm just sick of seeing them. Never even bothered with Paper Jam or Color Splash just for this reason.
@Joeynator3000
"Sick of seeing them"
Where do you see them? I've never seen a Rabbid in my life, or a minion, except in articles written about them. And the only time I've ever seen Toad is when I play a Mario game (in which case I also see Mario, and Luigi, and all the other hallmark characters)
@DiscoGentleman Exactly. I also find her annoying and smug, and there are a few genuine reasons to not be a fan, but I draw the line at mocking someone for being transgender. Not cool.
As for this rumored crossover, I'll wait and see what it looks like.
@JaxonH The Minions are everywhere online as memes, I see them in commercials and being posted on Twitter/Facebook. Rabbids I see them all the time wasting space on TV, and all those minigame games in the past. And Toads are freakin' everywhere, again, Paper Jam, Color Splash...They even get their freakin' own modes in other games...Toad Rush, Toad Rally....ugh. They basically ruined the RPGs for me because of this.
@Joeynator3000
Hm. Maybe I just don't watch enough TV. All I can relate to is Toad, but I see him no more than I see Mario, and that's never made me want to avoid Mario games.
@Niinbendo Lol someone who acts superior and thinks his opinion is somehow magical and special like yourself is a prime example of someone being on a high horse. You keep going on spewing hate and I'll keep on setting you straight sonny.
@Niinbendo For the record, you're the one being reported....so you might want to tone your comments down a bit.
@Niinbendo Yeah, she may always be male biologically, but that's not her gender.
And in case you didn't know, he and she signify gender, not sex.
Kirkhope's always come off as a poor man's David Wise two times over, with only the shallowest of understandings of the idiosyncrasies that made the work of the latter so sublimely magnificent and versatile.
Though to be fair, his noisy, over-exuberant, and grating aesthetics couldn't be more of a perfect fit for Minio-err, Rabbids, could it.
Oh wow, that's impressive... NintendoLife tagged a Laura Kate Dale rumour as a "Rumour" instead of "News." Progress.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy The More You Know ☆彡
Good music spoiled on a potentially bad game? Only time will tell!
@Nintendo_Ninja As long as it retains the Paper Mario/RPG formula, lets hope the Rabbids franchise takes a back seat.
@Henmii Ir good music used on a delightfully good game. We don't even know if a Mario X Rabbids RPG exists.
@allav866 Yes... I was surprised to read the words, "Rumours are rumours" on this site of all places.
Sorry Mr. Kirkhope, but not even you could make this project remotely interesting.
Screaming Rabbids crossing over with a beloved platformer icon ? Yeah, we had that already, and it was not pretty.
So yeah, if its true, its a surefire skip for me.
I hate Rabbids even more than Minions. Why is this happening? It's disgusting
@Einherjar God, I almost forgot that Raving Rabbids was a Rayman game! Then they appeared in TMNT Smash-Up, and now they're crossing over with Mario? These things are to video games what Minions are to movies; out of place, extremely annoying, deserve to die a slow and painful death!
@allav866 Yup, pretty much this.
Overmarketed merchandising that grossly overstayed its welcome.
Ubi tried so darn hard to make them their go-to mascot while killing off their actual mascot in the process.
Im really glad Rayman eventually came back better than ever though. But this is probably the worst crossover you can imagine.
Not only have the Mario & Luigi RPGs been wonky as of late, crossing it over with an completely unrelated IP which is far more annoying than appealing is just...idiotic.
There are so many more partnerships that would have worked out that much better.
But oh well. Im not forced to buy it, so there's that at least.
@Einherjar I'm just wondering why it can't be a Mario and Sonic RPG. It's the same thing every other year with those guys, they only ever partake in the Olympics.
: 10 days left, and these rumormongers will (hopefully) be gone.
"We don't even know if a Mario X Rabbids RPG exists"
So true.
This is beyond weird.
