Meh, never had any trouble compensating for input lag and dead zones and the like. The bigger problem is, as always with N64 VC, the lack of vibrant colours and contrast.
Meh, it's either a missed opportunity or a pragmatic business decision depending on which side you take. Ideally, it should have been connected to an online store with a much better and customizable selection. The Action 52 it ain't but there's still a few NES counterparts to Wii-era shovelware wasting space in there.
There will always be a place for things such as this until Nintendo and other companies finally wisen up and create a true platform for preserving games from entropy and preventing games from becoming patently unavailable to buy legally.
I'm putting these priceless platinum coins right next to my Itchy 'n' Scratchy money and piles of euros that'll be worthless when the union dissolves within a decade.
Not then, not now, not ever. I gave up on the Pokemon franchise around the time the Pokemon Company themselves gave up on fresh ideas and settled for complacency around Gen III. I appreciate its creating positive buzz for Nintendo but that's the extent of my plaudits.
Hurm, guess there needs to be a penultimate level on the despicable gaming "geniuses" list (It needs a catchier name) for people who at the very least take some responsibility for their failure. That's more than I can say for the unholy trio of Romero, Molyneux, and Ancel.
He wasn't exactly in an enviable position before, but now Inafune's plummeted down to the depths of Romero, Molyneux, and Ancel on the list of despicable industry "geniuses."
Then again, everyone looked like a mook compared to Sony. And even they basically just won by default on account of the most minute effort. E3 is a complacent dinosaur that edges closer to extinction each and every year. Gamers deserve something better.
Eh, judging from what they've been concentrating on for the last five years or so, chances are that even if Nintendo had a proper, respectable E3 line-up, I'd only care about Zelda and the inevitable MOTHER 3 announcement anyway. Hoping for some VC related thing but I'm not holding my breath.
Aside from that, all I really want out of E3 this year is Red Dead 3.
welp, I know what I'll be playing this day. If awesome childhood memories were riches (and you know they are), Mr. Young is a richer man than even Scrooge. He has earned his rest. Shine on you legend, in that great money bin in the sky...!
There's a joke to be made about "Dual Core coming to Wii U" and the U's "lacking" specs in the mind of the general public. Heck, if you're feeling particularly snarky you could even make a "blast processing joke"...
I view review scores as pretty redundant on the whole, but they are necessary when such a vast majority of so-called video game "journalists" have trouble getting their point across otherwise. So many nitpick on and blow up tiny things that in practice turn out to be non-issues. And that's not to mention the rampant corruption of ethics and bias so prevalent in mainstream reviewing media, resulting in "good" scores for games that objectively don't deserve them.
In the end though, the only opinion I truly value are my own, those of my friends, and maybe three or four video reviewers.
I hate Cackletta for being a broken cheating piece of toast that the game did literally nothing to prepare you for. Broken bosses > bad bosses, every time. Though, as much as I dislike Fawful for being a cringeworthy forced meme, the guy put up a fight and then some.
It's still nothing short of mind-boggling that DKC3 wasn't released alongside its series-mates during the hype period for N3DSNES, nevermind as part of the subsequent pathetic trickle the release schedule has been reduced to now. Swing and a miss, Nintendo... swing and a miss.
Maybe they can aim the momentum towards changing their design strategy and add some sorely needed substance to their shallow cringefests. Or more likely, they'll turn the dial up to eleven...
Nintendo have always owned the first-party market with nothing even resembling competition, be the times good or bad. The only real problem I have with their current situation as a consumer is a lack of a steady release schedule, and a lack of diversity, among other things. As a lifelong customer, I feel they've can do so much better. They have so many IPs that have been gathering dust for years now. The hardware is more than good enough as it is; this is not part of their problem unless you're a highly shallow individual, and unfortunately for the rest of us, a majority of the gaming consumer base are.
The way the consumer base has "evolved" (though Darwin would scoff at this usage of the term), Nintendo are never going to be "top dog" again unless they sacrifice damn near everything that makes them good in the first place. Trying to become market leader (which isn't necessarily a badge of honor these days) should become a priority only when they manage to get back to where they once belonged with pleasing their already established fans, which they've failed to do with innumerably many stupid and archaically-minded business decisions over the past ten years.
I can't in good conscience say that I have overly positive or negative hopes for Nintendo this year... the ball's in their court now.
Even more tiring than the ceaseless rumours are the people who say "I'm done listening to pre-release speculation, toodles!" and then say the exact same thing in the next such article.
Images on the front page took a while to load for whatever reason, so I assumed Nintendo had gone and announced an obscure Mario spin-off nobody asked for, based around Chain Chomps.
...would you really be surprised in this day and age?
Played Mario Party DS one day and never looked back. If there's ever a relatively pointless exclusive VC game I'd buy for my My Nintendo points it's that!
Clunky, outdated, and completely without charm. Never liked it, even as a kid when I was desperate enough for video games that I completed Mario Is Missing! three times over. Got good geography grades though, so who knows if it was really a bigger waste of time than this.
It was never going to revolutionize gameplay anyway, and it's too late now. My only true beef with the GamePad (heavily subjective, I know), aside from how un-ergonomic the design is, is how inconsistently it's used. My TV has a problem in that any audio delivered through HDMI is delayed by a noticeable amount. The GamePad's sound output and some decent speakers nullify this problem (nevermind that the wii U should've had optical audio out to begin with...) but some games output sound while some don't, and then some only do in Off-TV Play mode. You'd at least think you'd be able to use the GamePad as a dedicated sound device when using a Pro Controller, but nope. Just a useless "second" controller, still.
If Nintendo ever had any sort of idea about how to make the most of it, they rarely if ever, let the players know.
DKC has always been a bit too rote-seeming to me ever since I grew skilled enough to reduce any inherent challenge to nigh-on nonexistence. On the whole, the game's just a bit too unsatisfying when it comes to rewarding your playing. You don't even need to complete bonus areas to add them to your percentage. Collecting lives becomes a redundant effort some two worlds in, even without today's luxuries such as restore points and the like.
Still, if only by default, it is ten times better than puzzle pieces whose only purpose is unlocking gallery artwork and music like it's some off-brand cereal box pack-in game from the '90s. Ain't that right, Retro?
This is one of those rare games that render their predecessor all but obsolete (or it would have, if they didn't feel like two different games altogether) by the sheer breadth of the improvements made. Perhaps a bit too easy for its own good, but eh.

Poor grammatical form, Samuel. I cannot sanction your buffoonery.

It's only cheating as long as there is no MISSINGNO. with which to get things done. Then it'd be fair game.

A GameCube VC with MGS: TTS. That's literally the only thing that could make me get into a day one hype frenzy.

A more user-friendly, dedicated, official app with this stuff produced by Nintendo, that's something I'd pay money for right there.

I'm still of a mind that the DSi store was made purposely poor to make the planned future eShop look better in comparison.
