It's the first Nintendo Download Update of the year, but as this is a public Holiday the European details have been slow in coming. At the time of publication no UK press release has come through, but the ever-generous Daan Koopman has passed us the Dutch PR. This week includes a few Nindie titles, retail DLC and some rather tempting discounts; let's get to it.
Wii U eShop
Spheroids (Eclipse Games, £6.99 / €7.99) - This game mixes the bubble-popping mechanics of Pang / Buster Bros. with the 2D plain-swapping gameplay of Mutant Mudds, and it certainly looks rather promising. 32 levels are promised across 8 locations, and we'll see how it shapes up in a review.
CUP CRITTERS (RCMADIAX, £1.39 / €1.49) - Previously released on the New 3DS eShop, this is all about managing gravity and manipulating balls into cups, with setting a high score being the main aim.

And Heist in the discount again. I picked a very poor time to buy that one. :')
Another year, same poor "deals".
I see O2 games finally put their games on permanant discount, rather than having them on temporary every other week.
Where are the GBP prices?
I think this is the best price ever for The Delusions of Von Sottendorff. I will get it.
These are deals. Wow.
Hey Nintendo, you have a thing called Virtual Console, remember? Remember when you even made a big deal of the SNES VC on the New 3DS?
No darksiders for wiiu?
What a great start in 2017 ... we continue where we left 2016.
Im sure eShop servers will break down after the murder on the titanic "deal" .. amazing stuff.
"Nothing for me this week" should be the new Nintendo slogan.
We prefer to be a friendly site here. You're entitled to your opinion, but don't post derogative images -Lz
No virtual console is a concern, I am still hopeful that we will still get some good ones
Wii U going out with a bang.
...of a gun to the mouth.
I actually thought "Quiet, Please!" was a joke option...
January 12th cannot come soon enough!
Pretty sure that theme was the one that came with the preorder in NA.
@ironside1911 Hilarious. 😂
@sandman89 It's new release date is February I think. Maybe it's just a placeholder but that's what my pre order says. I don't think it's cancelled, I hope it's not as surely THQ Nordic would have said so by now. And they've been quite good to us Wii U owners.
Was hoping for some more good 3DS discounts as I still have some eShop funds to spend. Oh well, maybe next week.
Ten more days. Ten more days. Ten more days. Ten more days.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I pre ordered a physical copy on Amazon it said 31st December release
And remember, this is, objectively speaking, a better update than last week.
January 12 had better deliver.
@sandman89
I recently got an email from Base (where I preordered it) saying it had been delayed until Feb 3rd
Surprised to see this come through, glad some places are working!
Nothing for me, will try not to complain, I have a big backlog I'm aiming to sort before the Switch!
Nope. I'm cutting my WiiU spending right back since Switch is pretty much around the corner. Not that there's anything worth buying on WiiU now anyway.
@Humphries90 oh😔
that's gotta be plane-swapping
@SzDavid99 Try reading the intro.
@Gonso I'm going to get it too, have been waiting for a sale on that game because I'm not sure if I'll like it or not.
Pass this week for me.
I wonder why SMT4:Apocalypse doesn't just have a season pass style thing for all those millions of dlc contents.
