@john_lennon999 The new joy cons themselves aren't magnetic, the magnets are at the side of the screen and the metal buttons on the joy cons attract to these.
@Max_the_German PC requirements are relatively tame for this, I think 60FPS would be more than possible on Switch 2, or 30FPS if they can't be bothered optimising.
@Rainbowfire I bought my original Switch for £279 day 1, sold it 5 years later for £200 and bought a new OLED for £295. I don't regret my day 1 decision...
It's interesting that everyone's talking about the boring stuff, and nobody's talking about the games that are about to launch with it.
If Nintendo are truly planning a last minute announcement, <3 months before launch, then in April we could be playing Mario & Donkey Kong (3D), Mario Kart 10 and Metroid Prime 4... That's exciting!
I queued up at midnight for the launch of the PSP, it seemed so cool, literally like a PS2 in the palm of your hands.
I didn't end up playing it that much, there weren't many games that interested me. I ended up selling it and getting a white DS Lite when they were released, best decision ever. The games seemed much more suited to mobile play, and I found series like Layton and Ace Attorney which I'm a huge fan of to this day.
Anyway, I only got 11/19 - could have been worse I guess?!
PS2 and early PS3’s maintained backwards compatibility by literally including the previous generation hardware on their mainboards… I don’t think we’ll see that again.
@jwfurness Lets hope there would at least be a slight performance boost running existing titles and they wouldn't lock down the clocks to those of the original console when doing so...
People have overclocked their Switches and I don't believe it causes any issues....
Backwards compatibility is a nice bonus (it means I can pass on my Switch to another family member), but of far greater importance, what gimmicks can we expect?!
Will it strap to my head and become a VR headset? Will a front facing camera allow me to control games purely by raising my eyebrows? Will it eschew joy-cons in favour of a small mound of mouldable plasticine on each side of the device to construct your own controller? Can I hold one in each hand and make unicorns rain down from the sky?
@Maubari As long as the review succeeds in putting across the reviewer's opinion of the game, I'm not sure how it can be inaccurate? Unless there are some factual errors?
Graphics looked pretty average to me... I haven't actually played any Metroid Prime games, so thought at first it must be a port of a Gamecube one. Maybe it will look incredible on Switch 2?
It's an interesting point, particularly as I was flicking through the January 1999 issue of Edge magazine yesterday and it was obvious from the articles and the adverts that Retro gaming was really taking off. CEX had just opened a 'Retro' dedicated store and their advert interestingly had logos for not only Atari but also Super Famicom, Mega Drive, Neo Geo and even 3DO.
There also was an article called 'The Land before 3D' which looked at whatever happened to 2D games, which shows how quickly games, and perceptions of what they should be had changed in such a short time. There were quotes such as this one from Joss Ellis of Virgin, "If I showed a 2D game like Super Metroid to a group of kids, none of them would buy it. They'd be like: 'What' all this retro crap?'"
That game was less that five years old at that point! There had been such a paradigm shift in that point of time between the '3D consoles' and what came before, that SNES and Megadrive games were considered retro not long after they'd gone from the shelves.
We've not really had such a big change in the style of games since then, it's been a much more gradual change so it's much harder to pick a point in time when games or consoles would be considered retro. The change is still there, but pinpointing it is much more a matter of an individuals perception. In terms of the consoles themselves and the way that they look and feel, they've not really changed much in more than 25 years - they're boxy and you insert discs. Anything where you have to blow into a cart immediately feels more retro!
@ActionPanther While I'm sure they'd love to have the best selling console of all-time, what they should be thinking about is the best way to maximise revenues and profit. Switch revenue is falling and investors will be keen for that situation to be reversed ASAP.
@Reztobi I'm not sure where you're getting your information from? Globally, the Switch has sold more than PS5 and Xbox Series X/S put together (not surprising, since it came out in 2017). In terms of last year only, one source states that PS5 sold 22.5M, Switch sold 16.4M and Xbox sold 7.6M (source: Ampere Analysis).
@Serpenterror Well, they only reformed a couple of years ago. The original Free Radical was formed of ex-Goldeneye developers from Rare and eventually became part of Crytech. This new incarnation had some of the same team.
@johnvboy Very quickly! My wife bought a new one off eBay shortly after launch that was already £10 below RRP (there were dozens if I recall). Not really a promising sign!
Since we've become a four Switch household, I'm buying less digital and more physical than I have since the DS. Nintendo need to find a way that we can easily share purchased digital games before that will change now...
@MirrorFate2 I played F-Zero earlier in the week, I played F-Zero 99 today. It does really seem to be F-Zero. If you think F-Zero is crap then this probably isn't the game for you.
@MirrorFate2 Well, it is a bit silly to hate something you haven't played. It reminds me of my 5 year old when he says he doesn't like a food that he's never even tried!
@Luke937 Can't say I've had too many damaged game cases from Amazon, and we must have ordered a few over the last twenty years or so.... We did buy a second hand switch lite off Vinted a couple of weeks back that was shipped purely in a folded plastic carrier bag with some sellotape around it. We heard the noise of the postman shoving it through the letter box, miraculously it was in one piece!
@jco83 In fact the scalpers would be the ones already checking the store on a daily basis for new stock. If anything, it being posted here will put more stock in the hands of genuine customers and less through the scalpers.... Perhaps you are the scalper, hence your annoyance?
@jco83 Yes, the scalpers all wait until my comment to purchase N64 controllers... Scalpers must have gotten pretty rubbish lately! Wait until I tell that PS5's are in stock at Amazon!

@PinderSchloss What if they bought it in 1992 for the SNES?
Re: Hideki Kamiya Wants Nintendo To Reboot Virtual Console For Switch 2
@HalBailman I believe Nintendo make over a billion dollars per year from NSO, I'm not sure how much they're losing there....
Re: Switch 2's Magnetic Joy-Con Connection Was Originally An Idea For Switch
@-wc- Tabletop mode lets me and my wife compete at Puyo Puyo Tetris whilst away on trips (camping in France comes to mind).
Also, I was on a packed train with the kids and we set-up an impromptu Mario Kart game on the floor of the train.
That's not exactly regular use though....

@dugan Absolutely, I'll be there day 1 for almost any price, but I'm not paying a penny to a scalper - I'd rather wait it out.

Re: Review: Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo - Pricey But Delightful, And Something Only Nintendo Could Pull Off
@BlazC Is it really THAT overpriced though?
Yes, the new Apple Watch now has an OLED screen for the first time, but that’s £399.
The Echo Spot has an RRP of £79.99(although is available for less).
Still not sure about getting one of these, but the price isn’t as crazy as people are making out!

I read that image as ‘Ace Attorney Series. Product introduction video’, like they’re introducing a new product/title in the series…
