Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Metroidvania Games

Shiiva

Hard disagree on Blasphemous. While I agree the world is very interesting and the game looks and sounds great, not to mention top-notch combat, the level design is terrible, with blind spots littered with insta-death traps, enemies in places you cannot avoid taking damage from, and so. much. BACKTRACKING! You have these lanterns that resurrect you but you can't warp between, and the world being as massive as it is, only having 5 warp points makes for a tedious experience. All the other games I can get on board with, but Blasphemous, not just for it's inclusion here but the for 9/10 score you somehow gave it, shouldn't be on this list.

In context the mansion from the Japenese cover looks great, but out of context, seeing all three on the shelf... Europe for sure. I don't know what the ***** I'm buying, but it looks gross and I'm intrigued to know more!

Re: Review: Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning - RPG Action That Really Shows Its Age

Shiiva

Played this recently on PC and even then the problems the game had are still there, nothing seems to have changed or been improved, and while the combat is very good, it's a little 'too' good, and dying is especially difficult... though, thinking about the timeline of when I played certain games, I played this BEFORE playing Dark Souls for the first time, so my whole experience with the game was tremendously positive once because I just didn't know any better. Dark Souls is too good... and Amalur needed to do a LOT more with this re-release to live up to the lofty heights the genre has to offer in 2021.

Re: Nintendo Plugs Zelda: Skyward Sword HD With New "Button-Only" Control Scheme

Shiiva

@braincandy101 The work wouldn't actually be as much as you think. A lot of the puzzles that require a slash in a specific direction could be performed with the skyward slash on the right analogue stick as indicated on the direct, while enemies need only be programmed with basic combat AI. Since it and TP ran on the same system, Nintendo could import the combat from one to the other, and adjust to fit, altering hitboxes is a simple enough task and changing how some of the items work with motion would be equally simple. Time consuming, don't get me wrong, but still relatively simple, especially for a studio like Nintendo.

Re: Nintendo Gives Us A Look At The Switch Box Art For Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

Shiiva

@Lagster_YT Start with 'A Link to the Past' and see if you enjoy the formula, because the 3D games largely took their cues from that game; find item, use item in area you previously couldn't traverse, find different item inside temple, use it to kill boss, use story progression to unlock new area, find item, etc...

But honestly, starting with the first real masterpiece in the series and playing them all in order is unlike any other gaming experience, and if you love BOTW, it's like playing through the design stepping stones Nintendo took to get to that game. Fingers crossed they all come to Switch!

Re: Video: Here's How Mario Kart Could Look Running On A 4K Console

Shiiva

4K looks no different to me. If what you're going for is outstanding graphics, then by all means swing for the fences, but don't lie and tell me it makes the game any better, you know it doesn't. Shadows and beautiful lighting only serves to make the environment pretty to look at, but if the gameplay sucks then the game is a failure, plain and simple. And how much money do I need to spend to find that out? Yeah... I'll pass.

Re: Kingdoms Of Amalur: Re-Reckoning Is Coming To Switch With DLC Included

Shiiva

I got the re-reckoning on PC, and I have to say the replayability of this game was surprisingly stagnant for me. It's open world (though some areas have Dark Souls scaling and will murder your head!), Skyrim lite, with an emphasis on its damn impressive combat and skill tree. There's plenty to do, lots of side quests and the main storyline is a little tame to say the least, but it's engaging at the right moments. But, and this is crutial for me, having started only my second run through of BOTW (and first 100% run), Kingdoms feels awkward, floating in this space between Zelda and The Elder Scroll's finest offerings. Glad to see it come to Switch, and I would recommend it in a heartbeat, but with caution to players of either of the former titles (Skyrim or BOTW), this is the baby brother in more ways than one.

Re: Bowser Tries To Explain Why Mario's Games Will Be Removed On 31st March 2021

Shiiva

I get that it's an extended birthday party that can only go on for so long... but that idea, while novel, is only going to hurt Nintendo in the long-run. I want to see the games remain on sale, and for Galaxy 2 to be added to the all-stars, as well as the Mario 35 servers remaining open. It doesn't make any business sense to remove them...

Re: Sega Asks 650 Employees To 'Voluntarily Retire', Cuts Executive Salaries

Shiiva

I get the feeling Nintendo should just purchase the company and introduce the concept of quality releases to their devs. They wouldn't be struggling quite this much if every game was an instant classic... I just hope they find their feet, because Sonic the Hedgehog for the mega drive was my first game, and it would be a shame to see them go. Buy them Nintendo, for the love of God, don't let this become another Rare situation!

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel #66 - Resident Evil 0

Shiiva

In horror, there's never a good reason to put the character on the box, as it often takes away from the overall eerie nature of the title. Europe's could have been better but it wins this round, not just for the simple design but for the really off colour palette. The other two look like terrible movie posters...

Re: Nintendo Lawyers Hit Fan-Made Zelda Game With Fatal Copyright Claim

Shiiva

I don't think it has anything to do with the gameplay, which is solid, but the storyline of trying to bridge Ocarina and Majora. The storyline of the whole franchise has been revealed slowly over 4 decades, the copyright claim is to make sure a mod doesn't suddenly become canon in the eyes of some fans who think it's better than what Nintendo had envisioned.

Considering the guy had the skill to put such a game together though, he should just ignore franchises altogether and focus on original storytelling, he's clearly got the skills for it!

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Next DLC Fighter To Be Revealed Tomorrow, 1st October

Shiiva

Either an iconic third party character, Sora or Rayman finally, or someone from an upcoming title whose game will coincide with the release of the fighter, like the chap from the new Monster Hunter with the lightbug swing. Hollow Knight would also be dope... and with Silksong on the way, maybe even Hornet could make it in? Looking forward to it whatever it is, gonna be sick!

Re: Here's Tennis World Tour 2's Full Roster Of Playable Stars

Shiiva

Murray? Djokovic? I guess they're holding them back for a legends pack of some kind later down the line, with maybe Agassi, Graf and Hingis as well... kinda bummed I can't play as Murray from the get go, but if history repeats and this game is a complete dumpster fire, it won't matter much.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #59 - Sonic The Hedgehog 2

Shiiva

NA is the one I remember, because in England we had that same artwork with the megadrive logo at the top instead, rather than Europe's stripes and topless border (which looks weird). Tails looks deformed on the Japanese one...

Re: Feature: So, What Happened To Super Mario Galaxy 2?

Shiiva

It'll be added later, the fan response was massive to it's exclusion and Nintendo like money. And if we get that, the Metroid Prime trilogy and the Zelda collection of all five main games prior to BOTW, I'll be a very happy camper indeed! Wishful thinking I know, but one can dream!
