There's been a lot of information shared about The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD since its big reveal last week, but one thing you might have seen just yet is the game's Switch box art.
Nintendo of America's Twitter account has now shown off a North American copy of the game, showcasing the key visual which features Link, the demon lord Ghirahim and Link's companion, Fi.
Here’s a look at the box art and key visual for The Legend of #Zelda: #SkywardSwordHD, featuring Ghirahim, Link, and Fi!
Obviously, this box art may look slightly different depending on the region you're located in. It also appears to be the same cover as the standard version for Wii (not the gold one). We've also got a look at the packaging for the Joy-Con, themed after the Master Sword and Hylian Shield.
Skyward Sword HD arrives on Switch on 16th July. Will you be adding a physical copy to your own collection? What do you think of the cover art? Tell us below.

I want that Joy Cons bundle, not the game.
@Anti-Matter For me, it's the opposite.
Great cover art btw.
@Anti-Matter Agreed. This is my least favorite game in the series, and it's really nothing but an over-priced wii port. The joycons are cool though!
Why do people want the Zelda Themed Joycons or any when Nintendo have yet to fix the drift? You'll need a replacement or temporary fix after a year of use. They're not cheap either.
If they replaced Fi and Ghirahim with two separate glamour shots of Gru this would be an instant purchase
@Porky Well the alternative to getting them fixed/replaced is to just put up with drift or use crappy third party controllers so it's still the best option. If I'm gonna get new ones then might as well get nice ones when the price isn't too different anyway.
July is so far away... 😬
@BenAV the horis with the dpad are the best I've used. Never had one wear out yet. Wish they made right ones, I'd never look back. Plus, they're only $20 or so.
That "Skyward Sword" font does look a bit shovelware-eske. Other than that I like it.
Really nice art. 👍 Cant wait for July.
@BenAV Hori Split Pad Pro Controller is much better. I never use my Joycon anymore after getting both Hori and Pro Controller.
I wish new themes for Pro Con will come soon..
@VoidofLight I just think zelda looks freaky in this game, would have loved if it was a wind waker port. (And shut up I know wind waker got ported to the wii u but I'm talking about a port on the switch not a remake on the switch.)
@PhilKenSebben I actually like the directional buttons on the Joy-Con though and any that don't have wireless functionality aren't good enough for me.
@Miu I don't think I could bare attaching something as ugly as the Split Pad Pro to my Switch.
If there is no drift, I'd buy the joycons. But (at least in Brazil) Nintendo is not fixing (or trading) limited edition controllers.
Bring it on! I loved this game! The story, The visuals, the music which btw is the first time the series had an orchestrated soundtrack. (Not that boring ambient crap from BOTW) Oh and it's got wait for it....actual Dungeons!
Loved botw ( the only Zelda game I ever played), not sure if I should get this someday, been wanting to try other games in the series
If this game was in some off-brand franchise, people would remember it fondly and say the characters should be in Smash. A bad Zelda game is still better than most other stuff, and that said, I very much enjoyed it. Thing is, I'm not buying it again. I already bought it twice.
@Snatcher I just wish they would’ve fixed the textures and lighting to make the game look a bit nicer honestly. However, they didn’t even want to do that..
Still own the original but never finished it thanks to the motion controls.
Now I can finally play it the way I wanted to all those years ago
I can't believe they're charging such a high price for one port. Like others, I think Nintendo ought to be discounting the price or releasing an 'all stars'-esque bundle for this price. I guess people really love Zelda.
Not sure where people are getting this game being over priced from. It's a weird logic, that kinda implies they believe that the first copy of a game should be full price, but all the subsequent copies thereafter should be next to nothing, because a machine is making them. Y'know...it's called manufacturing.
Honestly, some folk need to be a little less snobbish (I'm convinced the people moaning are the people worried it will depreciate their copy of the original - it's their retirement lol) and appreciate how much a game is worth.
It still holds it's value. If you already played it, or own it and don't think it's worth 60, then that is to you. So buy a second hand copy or something and show a bit more appreciation to the bigger picture than your game collection. To someone who has never played it, it's more reasonable. And if you think Nintndo should cater to folk who has already played their games...you are bonkers! Fans are just super consumers. Companies and celebs are grateful to them...but it doesn't give you any privileges lol.
(Better have my coffee...feels like a no sympathy day...)
GROOSE FOR SMASH CONFIRMED!!!
I have never played the Wii version, but I'm looking forward to this precisely for the motion controls.
@Porky in the UK at least, they have to fix them free of charge for quite some time (years from purchase). We've had our Switch a year, our left joycon has been back twice for repairs. Completely free including free postage both ways, turn around is about 10 days.
Not ideal obviously, but joycons are a requirement for some games (Mario Party, Ring Fit Adventure etc).
Yay, another overpriced Nintendo game!
@BenAV No worries to each their own
Must buy those JoyCons! Arghhh damn you for making things I really really don’t need but absolutely must have!!
@Nin10dood Same here. I got it with the Wilmore bundle but the waggeling just killed it for me. Now I will be able to play it gimmick free.
LoZ:SS is such a brilliant game in the series. I'm really pleased that it's getting a re-release. As much as I love LoZ games though, I won't be double dipping. Not because of the price, or anything else deemed sinister from the pessimists/bokoblins, but purely because I still own it on Wii. I still have my Wii proudly hooked up to my TV via a component cable and in all honesty, SS looks amazing to this day. Also, I really love the Wii remote & nunchuck controls and couldn't even imagine playing the game any other way. That being said, I am pleased that Nintendo have implemented a standard controller option on the Switch version for those that don't dig motion controls. This can only broaden the appeal of such a great game.
Inb4 internet outrage about the pri......oh too late.
I'll try again.
Inb4 internet outrage about the joyco......oh too late.
I give in.
@ukaskew
They've only done it free of charge coz you were within 1st year of purchase.
For those who bought it a year or more ago Nintendo expect you to pay to fix things.
It's so weird to see the same cover of the Wii version.
I may be totally wrong, but I don't think they ever reused artworks for any HD, 3D or remake of a Zelda rerelease.
But it is a good cover, so maybe it was just a matter that they didn't know how to top it XD
@dazzleshell in the UK the consumer rights act is very much on your side even after a year. Nintendo will take them back well after 12 months rather than deal with the hassle. I know people who have returned them after 3 years for a free repair with no problems.
Re-started SS on my WiiU yesterday again. I have that little MClassic dongle connected to the WiiU also.
Its not perfect, but, looks pretty good! Still no problems with the Wiimote either. It is a little annoying in combat but I got over it after an hour.
I think I'll be giving SSHD a pass for now anyway.
Unless there is massive updates, which I just cant see in the trailer from the direct, but its just a trailer. There will probably be more announced in the next couple of months.
But for now, I just dont see it worth the €60 for a port with button controls. Bit of a bad move for Nintendo. Should be €30/40 for this port.
Or part of a collection with WWHD & TPHD for €60/70.
No interest in those joycons tbh.
Let's remember that the original release included a Wii Remote Plus for very little extra money and it wasn't a port.
I feel like fi should be looking to the left like how Ghirahim is looking to the right. It looks odd to me
@GrailUK I think it's up to people to decide if something is overpriced to them. But whether it's objectively overpriced or not will be decided by the market.
What irks me a little more is that it is an HD remaster with improvements and not just a port like some claim. I wonder how many of them will purchase it despite complaining, though.
@roboshort exactly. Manufacturing has shifted to Switch. They didn’t have to update to HD and add controls to charge full price, but they did. Yeah I agree market will decide. Fact it sold out on Amazon shows they aren’t stupid lol. Ah well.
Can't pay 59.99 for this. Maybe when there is a deep sale.
@Lagster_YT Start with 'A Link to the Past' and see if you enjoy the formula, because the 3D games largely took their cues from that game; find item, use item in area you previously couldn't traverse, find different item inside temple, use it to kill boss, use story progression to unlock new area, find item, etc...
But honestly, starting with the first real masterpiece in the series and playing them all in order is unlike any other gaming experience, and if you love BOTW, it's like playing through the design stepping stones Nintendo took to get to that game. Fingers crossed they all come to Switch!
@Porky own 2 pairs of joy cons since switch launch day. 1000s of hours of play, travelled all around the country with me for work, thrown in and out of backpacks, suitcases etc. and no drift on either.
Not saying drift isn’t an issue for some, just that it isn’t the inevitability that people assume.
Regarding the price I'll just copy my comment from a different thread :
Nintendo games releasing for full price and never going down is 50% Nintendo stubbornness and 50% supply and demand. If I look at the Top 20 best selling games in December for my region I see two PS-exclusives (Miles Morales at 13 and Last of Us 2 at 20) and 10(!) Nintendo exclusives. Half of them are over one year old, Mario Kart is on 2, Breath of the Wild on 16 and Odyssey on 19, despite selling for full price and beeing almost four years old. The rest are recently released multi platform games like AC Valhalla, Call of Duty and Cyberpunk.
That's the difference. Your typical AAA game sells really well for two or three months and then sales drop significantly and they go down in price. Nintendo games on the other hand keep selling well for months and years. Reducing the price would probably not significantly increase sales.
@Wavey84 while I agree with most of your complaints about the Joycons I never had the issue that I hit the right stick accidentally.
Wii pointer controls are superior in Mario Galaxy or other ports from Wii like World of Goo, but Skyward Sword never used them, even on the Wii you had to recenter from time to time.
Poor cover art, but I'll still be buying it.
Amazing cover art, but I guess I will buy this digital on a sale. Windwaker HD would have been an instant pre order for me, but it is what it is...
@Anti-Matter I'm grabbing both
color is like botw cover
I would love if Nintendo would give the same HD treatment to some of their more obscure / incredibly niche franchises such as, i don’t know, Metroid Prime, F-Zero, Golden Sun or Paper Mario (&Luigi).
Anywhere in the uk I can pre order the joy cons
Thanks
I wait for windwaker.....if it comes
This is great for people who never owned a Wii.
The Wii just didn’t sell games well.
@Lagster_YT You should try some out for sure. I'd say Ocarina, Wind Waker or Twilight Princess are safer games to try after botw, but you might enjoy Skyward Sword.
Great cover art, I love it when multiple characters are featured (interestingly Zelda is missing) but using Ghirahim and Fi as well looks good.
The original was already great and since these games usually stick to a gold background it felt consistent, not using gold here makes it feel modern, I guess because BOTW doesn't use it either.
@GrailUK everyone gets to decide what is good value for their money. Perhaps one is just too lazy to take out their wii or their wii u. Perhaps they don’t have the game anymore. Perhaps they never played the game.Nintendo games don’t drop in value so even picking up the wii game won’t be cheap and the switch game won’t get discounted soon so I might as well by it at launch. I can understand all those points.
However I equally understand the thought process that capcom remade resident evil 2 and 3 for the same price. Sony remade demon souls for the same price. Microsoft put three of their best games in a halo collection. Activision remastered banjo kazoie, Spyro and Tony hawk then put it in a collection for the same price. Remember how we all loved the borderlands collection at the same price. Even by Nintendo’s own standards the twilight princess port came with an amiibo and more recently Nintendo put three of their classics on one game and charged the same price.
My concern is this. If we all pay full price for this then what motivation does Nintendo have to not charge us full price for every port going forward? Why would Nintendo release a Zelda collection of three games for the same price shortly after they find out that they could simply sell them individually and make three times the money. Will Nintendo repackage the alleged Metroid trilogy and simply release the games individually. Does buying these games at this price encourage more ports with little changes at full price at the expense of new game development? Does selling these games at such a high price make Nintendo think twice about implementing backwards compatibility into their next system. Wouldn’t they want to sell us the same games again!
I still have my gold Wii copy. I also have the gold Wiimote and Nunchuck, and they're my go to controllers for all my Wii games!
I already know the box art from Amazon since days
@BenAV No worries. Just wanted to throw it out there. I don't mind the buttons on the regular joy con either, and I get needing wireless.
The joy cons are gorgeous, but I won’t be getting them. They will just end up getting drift anyway.
definitely excited for this, since I missed out on the Wii version! Still wish they made new art for the remaster...
60 dollars...lol
@Lagster_YT
I highly recommend it. Even though it's not representative of most classic Zelda games, it has a great story and you'll find its gameplay to be quite unique.
I would also recommend Link's Awakening on the Switch. You're already missing out if Breath of the Wild is the only Zelda game you've played.
I think it's nice the cover art doesn't spoil Demise
@GTGrilli You just did.
@sixrings
"Activision remastered banjo kazoie, Spyro and Tony hawk"
2 out of 3 aint bad 😜
@WiltonRoots it is hard to argue against facts and it seems consumers are smart enough to see when they are being taken advantage of, but still dumb enough to allow themselves to be take advantage of anyways.
it is not over priced. I would pay 60 bucks. why are Sony PONIES on here. complaining about 60 bucks for a great game, but they do not mind pay 70 bucks for a 5 hour demo , Spiderman miles Morales. for the ps5 door stop. and yet you can get the same demo on ps4, for 50 bucks. so if you want to buy a 70 dollar demo for the ps5 door stop.then go ahead. REAL GAMERS CAN PAY 60 BUCKS FOR A FULL GREAT GAME . LIKE SKYEARD SWORD AND MARIO 3D WORLD BOWSERS FURY. so get over it.
@PoorGeno Triforce Heroes is giving you the Pedro the Monkey glance
7.8/10 Too Little Groose.
@michellelynn0976
Excuse me, Madam. 🤨
I DO NOT have PS5 and i DO NOT play Spiderman games.
Could you stop accusing someone who have no interest with specific Nintendo games as Sony Ponies ?
Sony Ponies ??
What was that mean ??
Just because i have no interest with Zelda games it doesn't mean i do not support Nintendo. I play other Nintendo games as well such as ACNH, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, etc but not interested with Zelda games. It's totally fine, everyone have their own interest.
Well, at this rate, your behavior now is already too far.
I think i should call moderator to solve this issue.
@Eel Sorry if i have to call you.
This madam keep continuously calling some of us as Sony Ponies, talking nasty about PS5 all the time. Please check her comment above. Thank you for doing my favor.
@michellelynn0976 I've been noticing that you're very abrasive and aggressive in various articles. Please stop that, it's making other users uncomfortable.
@Anti-Matter calm down, just report them, no need to engage with them.
@GrailUK I think you are saying you don't share the same concerns because of releases such as Mario all stars which had a silly only available to date attached to it. You may be right but I am not sure. If I was Nintendo and saw people willingly throwing money at me for individual ports with very little added features then I would be tempted to milk my customers more and more. I hope you are right and we still see collections but I have doubts. I also hope that future switches past pro models have backward compatibility but I am not sure.
I would like to say that generally I like to think optimistically but Nintendos practices has really taken a toll on how I view their business practices despite loving their games.
Really wish it was out now, can't wait to play it in HD, and the usual QoL updates TP HD and WW HD got.
@Eel But it was OK for the others to be abusive to me. Gotcha.
@Anti-Matter Funny how you keep ignoring all the abusive behavior I was given. So what I put down the PS5.
Joy cons sold out everywhere. I love bots!
@Anti-Matter I have been called delusional, the R-word, autistic (which I am), so, that is totally fine. Funny how you never saw any of that.
@michellelynn0976 see, it's that, you keep going with the comments. I've seen it a few times already.
If people are mean to you, report them. You don't solve it by becoming the aggressor yourself.
If you don't mellow out, I'll eventually have to ban you.
@Eel fair enough. Sorry.
You will? You are the admin? What about Andy? All he did was go after me. I reported him a few times
@michellelynn0976 thanks.
I'm a moderator. In case you mean the Andy I'm thinking of, we have given him temporary bans for his behavior already.
@Eel Just not been myself and I am sorry. Lot of personal stuff.
i not gonna spent $60(R$300 here in Brazil)in a port of Skyward Sword that barely have a visual upgrade and gameplay improvements like Nintendo did with the remaster of Wind Waker e Twilight Princess, i gonna spent $60(R$300)in Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2, i not a idiot to spent money in a overpriced port that barely have a visual upgrade and gameplay improvements like Wind Waker HD e Twilight Princess HD did.
@Ambassador_Kong These sorts of things are subjective. One person's ripped off is another person's pocket change. The vast majority of opinions in here don't really reflect the real world as its just the opinions of a crowd of enthusiasts whose life revolves around gaming. Not much different to hifi or real ale enthusiasts.
If I was to go by these comment sections every single joycon on the planet is completely knackered and people are barely scraping two pennies together to buy games (even though they have multiple gaming systems and a gaming PC).
Meanwhile there's people who've never had a Nintendo system before, have a Switch in front of them, have the money and can't be arsed to piss about on the 2nd hand market getting the bits necessary to play Skyward Sword. But yeah how dare they spend their money how they see fit. Shame on them. I think I'll call this one SixtyDollarGate...it's been a fun one for sure.
still the same only with HD on it. I like my wii version better because its the shiny gold cover.
@sixrings We will see mate I get what you are saying. I'm sure Nintendo make those decisions on a game by game basis.
Can not wait for this game. For me back in 2011 I played and loved despite those motion controls which do get better but still inaccurate. So hyped to use normal controls on my switch lite, I hope my right stick holds out. Such a great campaign full of colour and variety in gameplay, and it feels like a Zelda game. Xxxx
To be honest I never understood why people go mad for Groose.
Why?
There was a fantastic mock up on reddit with “Groose’s Fury” bundled
Look it’s a box!
@dazzleshell Not true at all. I sent my launch day (as in, 4 years ago) Joy-Con in for repair last year and they fixed it promptly, effectively and with zero questions asked.
Bleh... I really wanted to love this game but it just fell flat. Unless Nintendo adds new content, I have no intention of dropping $60 on a zero-effort Wii port.
@JasmineDragon
Good to know. I don't have any drift issues but my friend does snd he got his at launch.
I never had this game and only played it a few times and it wasn't long but I really liked what I played so I will be picking up the physical game and possibly the joy-cons. The cover art is awesome!!
Beautiful! I want that game in my collection
I do not care for the JoyCons. They will drift anyway with or without the Zelda symbols
@Giygas_95 same here, not sure how much they are worth now tho
@dazzleshell Yeah, I thought they would give me grief about it not being under warranty, but it was no problem at all. And my kid has been playing with the repaired JC for about a year, works like a dream so far (knocks wood).
@Lagster_YT
This does not hold a candle for BotW. Don't expect open world or awesome physics engine.
@Porky Why do you feel the need to act like a complete ass just because people are excited about something? If you actively try to discourage others for being excited about something, you're almost as bad as Porky.
I WANT IT NOW!!! Dahm this instant culture, we can't always have what we want instantly So DAHM IT ALL!!!
