That Bomberman costume is literally Bomberman himself. Imagine having that costume with only bomb items enabled. Its basically Bomberman in Smash.

I'm definitely buying Bomberman and Travis, but while i'm happy for Bomberman (after all he's already a assist tropy and got one of those great costumes where the Mii basically turns into the character), i think Travis should have been a proper character.

Seeing Travis as a mii fighter outfit has disappointed me alot.

This only proves that Sakurai is not a No More Heroes fan.

It was never stated officially that these characters are out and cannot be Fighters with DLC later, that's the same thing people said about Spirits and Min Min proved that was false.

Maybe characters like Heihachi, Bomberman and Travis cannot be DLC in Fighter Pass 2, but can still come later if Nintendo changes their plans and makes a Fighter Pass 3.

Given the history of Bomberman on Nintendo consoles I'm kinda surprised he's not been a playable character yet, just an assist trophy and now a costume. I'd much prefer him to most of the new characters.

At the risk of upsetting his fans, I don't think Travis Touchdown deserved to be a full fighter when so many other more deserving and important third-party characters could be picked to be in the roster.

If you look at the third-party fighters who have made it into the game, pretty much all of them are icons of gaming and very important to gaming and its evolution as a whole.

The only two you might argue with would be Joker and Bayonetta, but even those two have vaild reasons to be in the roster.

Joker comes from a long-running series with Persona, which itself is a spin-off of Shin Megami Tensei which is a series that existed since 1987.

Bayonetta is special since Nintendo pretty much publishes her games now, making her a pesudo-first party and she's the one who won the Smash Fighter Ballot once all the unlikely choices were taken out.

My point is, while I might upset some people who hate my opinion, I just don't think Travis Touchdown is important enough to get into Smash as a full fighter. Getting a slot is hard enough, and there are numerous third-party fighters who deserve the honor more.

@tsdenizen A part of me was not surprised this happened, but I was still disappointed. Then again, the katana charging thing and finding a unique mechanic for his play style might have been an issue, along with everyone complaining about too many sword users...

I love that Bomberman. More thanmany of the full characters. And while he'd definitely deserve a full spot as a character, his source material for a full unique moveset is rather... Limited.

Smash community Mii costume? Sweet

With Bomberman getting a Mii costume, I imagine they have to be adding a Shovel Knight one before long, right? They're both Assist Trophies for highly requested characters.

Funny thing they put Gil from Tower of Druaga in here, as he is not very well known nowadays. I read the game was popular in Japanese Arcades in the mid 80s, but it was not so in the west.
I saw it, but never played it. Well, seems to be the time to test the game, as I already have it on my Evercade

@broskiplays Notice that they showed him off using the Shot Put move. Anyone who makes their own Bomberman Mii Fighter should be required to choose that move if they want anyone to take it seriously or download it.

@victordamazio True, but it was always a lot less likely for Assist Trophies and Mii Fighter Costumes than Spirits (especially these costumes that are being developed alongside the DLC fighters), and it hasn't been proven that it isn't a rule, either.

There's almost no change they're going to come back with a 3rd Fighter Pass after already proclaiming they're not doing any more.

@Shambo I think he’s got enough to make a move set out of. I mean Duck Hunt Duo, Pac-Man and Piranha Plant all got in with far less.

Bomberman could charge and drop bombs, he could throw bombs, he has sticky, bouncy and remote detonation bombs. Plus there was also the roller skates and kicking power ups that could be worked into moves. I think he’d be really fun, but I guess he’s relegated to a Mii outfit for now.

@Caryslan I’m inclined too agree. I mean yeah he’s cool but he’s not really iconic and he’s not Nintendo.

If we’re going for super iconic characters the likes of Crash Bandicoot, Lara Croft and Doomguy are all big, iconic names first. And then Nintendo has a ton of franchises barely represented in Smash that I think are deserving (and could benefit from massively as Fire Emblem once did). A Mii costume seems fitting though, it’s nice to see him in that capacity at least.

Bomberman looks cool but like several others have said here I wish he was a playable character! The Tower of Druaga hero set is a nice nod to yesteryear too.

The Bomberman costume looks incredible. I would have loved him to be playable with his own unique moveset, but this is absolutely the next best thing. These premium Mii costumes definitely help make it feel like more characters are available to play. And I’m glad we finally got one that’s not a gunner.

i really wish all mii costumes werent locked to certain mii fighters. whenever i see swordfighter or gunner costumes, i just think how easy itd be to implement a brawler version of that. like removing sans gun to make him a brawler, or giving him a long bone to make him a swordfighter

@Paraka Don't forget Bayonetta and Snake. They both have risky content in their franchise when compared to Nintendo's standards. It is a possibility.

I will never, ever understand why a character as iconic as Bomberman is not in Smash as a character. It... blows my mind.

I have to say though, the Bomberman costume looks so good it's just like having him as a character in the game itself, just without an original and unique move set.

Meh. Would have 200% preferred Travis or Bomberman as a full character rather than Steve. Particularly Travis. But whatever. Hopefully the next characters will be good at least.

@MysteryCupofJoe Oh, it’s very, very slow, haha! As much as I like it, I’ll be the first to say it’s not for everybody. Molasses-like pacing, and it’s repetitive; you find a key on each floor (stage) and ascend, and I think there’s, like, 60 floors. But I really got into it. I liked playing it, but also, Tower of Druaga reminds me of hanging out with my great aunt. I suppose some of my fondness comes from those memories of her. At any rate, happy gaming, yo! 😄

I knew Travis was never going to make it into the game as a full character, but this... I'm fine with this honestly. And Bomberman looks incredible! We need more Mii skins that don't look like Mii's and I for one want Vaati from The Legend of Zelda as the next non-Mii, Mii costume!

@yuwarite We will get a new Smash Bros on the next Nintendo system, and I think Bomberman has a good chance of joining the ranks of Mii Costumes, Assist Trophies, and Pokeball Pokemon who have been promoted to fully-playable.

Bomberman will join Smash someday. There were just other fighters who got the nod over him this time.

@Ogbert You're right, and playing with only Bombermen (if that's a correct plural) would probably be great fun as well. I know the simplicity of the original games is still great fun today, for hours upon hours.
