In terms of adding something new to the series from a franchise that currently doesn't have a playable character, a character from Crash Bandicoot or Ninja Gaiden seem like good choices. Crash makes a lot of sense as Crash 4 is out on Friday.

I'd love to see Kazuma Kiryu, but we could never get that lucky. I bet it's Crash.

Early rumors and speculation (which are typically wrong), indicate it may be Travis.

We'll see, but hope it's from a well known franchise property that hasn't been represented before. That, or something completely out of left field, like a playable Virtual Boy, or LABO Robot.

I’d really love to see a Hunter from Monster Hunter but not sure that’ll ever happen. It would be awesome to be able to switch to the various weapons. I see a fighter like that being very dynamic and a blast to play. It’s sad that the only representation MH got in the game was a Rathalos.

I kind of like how Nintendo has news on a weekly basis like this in short directs, partner showcases etc. Don't get me wrong, i always got hyped for the big directs but they were spread wide and now we get tidbits of information on a regular basis it seems.

@mr_eman I agree. I think timing plays into the ordering of possible characters.

For instance, Travis might have a higher likelihood with this specific announcement since NMH3 was originally planned for a 2020 launch. #3 could be Monster Hunter to coincide with March.

Doom Guy would be a fun #4 to coincide with Doom Eternal's delayed release on Switch, if for no other reason than for the memes with Isabella.

Goku has got to be the final announcement.

@Ulysses Yeah, and with people not entirely convinced to get the second pass after they announced a lack luster 1st party character, think its to their benefit to look at a hotly anticipated 3rd party character to really get a second push before the holidays. I mean the worst thing they could do now is announce a Pokemon or another Fire Emblem character. It needs to be on the level of Crash, Dante, Sora, or Doom Guy.

@fafonio Steve would be the perfect amiibo fighter skin. Other big franchises like Assassin's Creed and Fallout have been included in that way.

There aren't really any non-Nintendo characters left that I'd want. Doom Guy maybe, but he would not fit the universe.

@mr_eman Crash and Doom Guy definitely would be exciting as well as timely. To your point, I don't think Travis would be as exciting of an announcement being much more niche of a franchise.

On the other hand, it takes a long time to develop each character, so they have to iron out each choice well in advance, leaving very little wiggle room for switching characters.

I'm hoping its Pious Augustus from Eternal Darkness! Nintendo hates Eternal Darkness so it'll never happen even though he'd be great, he could have three different play sets based on his allegiance and his Smash Attack could be him summoning the relevant ancient.

@Ulysses I edited my earlier statement. Think Sora would hit the criteria of a character that could sell the second pass for the holidays, has appeal in both east and west, and has a tie in game coming up to coincide the release.

I think it'll be Monster Hunter and release in January/February.

I'm hoping it's Paper Mario. Almost finished up with Origami King, and that's just one gam that gives him a lot of fighter potential. Having some of his abilities from the old games, or something new like the 1,000 fold arms would be awesome. Plus, that games music would be a wonderful addition to Smash' soundtrack.

Rayman would be cool too, since he would fit so well with the other characters.

No real guess as to who it could be. To be honest, I'm more concerned with Nintendo's work schedule getting back on track since I know they're more used to working in person with each other. My main pick was deconfirmed, and since I only hav two characters I actively do not want in Smash, I'll be happy either way.

Heard rumours that it's Ryu Hayabusa from the Ninja Gaiden series. Pinch of salt though. Also seen rumours that it's Crash Bandicoot. Would much prefer Crash.

Also hes had a resurgence with the trilogy on switch and geno would represent the mario rpg series as a whole (paper mario, mario and Luigi (RIP ) and obviously the one hes from super mario RPG.) He is literally a big name almost only because people who played it know he should get in and people who haven't recognize hes from one of the greatest games of all time. Kind of like ness in the first smash bros a lot of people recognized him from that super great niche RPG and were happy he was in but also never played earthbound (which is a shame got a snes classic for it it is better than most modern rpgs and is essentially a must for undertale fans and jrpg fans)

@GrandScribe An Eternal Darkness stage designs itself. It'd be banned as hell in tournaments, but amazing for the rest of us.

Honestly, the only real obstacle I see to an ED rep is the lack of iconic music in the game — it's nearly all ambience-based, and pretty as it is, something like "Black Rose" doesn't really fit a battle setting.

Probably Cinderace or Rillaboom IMO.

I'm glad we know absolutely nothing about the character - it will make tommorow's reveal an actual surprise.

@VenomousAlbino when your a huge fe fan and you agree you hate the number of characters in smash you have problem. We needed byleth and roy/marth/Robin/Ike because those were huge new games or super popular but everyone else is superfluous.

@Jokerwolf same! That is my second choice, too. I can see using the Wirebug to grab and maybe a final smash that involves a high cliff and some of the newer monsters in the game. Like throwing the opponent off a high cliff into the attack path of one of the bigger monsters.

@Sabrewing an expanded A War to End All Wars could work as could Gateway to Destiny, The Last Hope could be expanded and work. It'd take quite a bit more work but they could rework some of the other songs to make em' faster paced and not sound like a mass of people are writhing and suffering in pit and not talking about corpses lumbering rotting cadavers and rats eating eyes.

@Jmjfrank Metal Gear games may not be bloodbaths but they take themselves considerably more seriously in tone compared to a franchise like DOOM

They're also known for drawing heavily on political intrigue and have some graphic material like in MGSV Ground Zeroes where you have a remove a bomb planted inside someone and it shows a bit of Snake cutting into the womb of said individual, or in MGS3 where there's a sequence involving Snake getting tortured by a Russian operative and it shows him getting his eye slit out.

I just want it to be a first-party character. Something tells me it is going to be a Gen 8 Pokemon. Urshifu or maybe Zarude?

The "Brief message from Sakurai" will just be an advertisement to tune into his "special presentation" in a week or so.

Sakurai has no reason to need that much time covering a DLC character. NetherRealm only needs a two minute video and that's it. We don't have Ed Boon have to explain to us who Spawn is.

"Doom Guy" hasn't even appeared in either of the 2 Doom films. Nintendo fans didn't even care about the series until September of 2017. And at that, Doom isn't even Bethesda's best-selling franchise. It's not even 2nd either. How did this character become flavor of the month?

There are so many cool characters that could come, so I can't really want just one or two of them. They are (mostly) all good choices. Yes, even Shrek. @badboy9 the big N wont do it... also sans was the only contender and he is already "in" if you want some undertale content try earthbound it's essentially triple a undertale (this was the biggest inspiration for undertale toby was a major rom hacker for it and ran a community site for it). Its honestly better than undertale on many levels and considering how great undertale is it's worth a shot. I would buy a snes classic to get it (you also get a ton of other great games and awesome controllers). Say fuzzy pickles!

consideing most or all character that join Super Smash Bros franchise, is not only to represent they franchises or upcoming games of the franchise, i predict young Impa or one of the Champions of Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild followed by someone of the Monster Hunter franchise is gonna be added to promote both games, or Nintendo gonna trown a curveball and add a character no one wanted.

@RPGamer what the problem in anouncing the next character in the second Fighter Pass tommorow?octobre 1th, novembre 20th, is not gonna change what character is gonna join Smash Bros Ultimate tommorow.

If it's not Shantae, Phoenix Wright, or a Koei Tecmo rep like Ryu Hayabusa or Lana from Hyrule Warriors, I'm not interested in any more Third Party characters.

A new Zelda character seems overdue, since we haven't had a real Zelda newcomer since Melee. I'd also love to get Susie Haltmann or Gooey.

Maybe a new character set to premiere in Metroid Prime 4. That would be a neat appetizer.

A short 3 minute presentation? Doesn't sound like a 3rd party. Those get elaborate introductions.

Sounds like a "small" one by Nintendo, like Chibi-Robo, Geno, Pauline, Dixie Kong, Saki Amamiya, Bandana Waddle Dee, Isaac, Waluigi and that would be awesome still.

However, if a presentation comes later, then yeah, could be anyone. They tend to add NES icons, so I can imagine Bubble Bobble and Ninja Gaiden easily.

Guys, don't read into the 3-minute length. That just means it's going to be a cinematic trailer with whatever comments Sakurai tacks on. Ridley has had the shortest one so far and it was 1 minute 43 seconds.

I wouldn't really count Joker's Game Awards reveal since that didn't have any gameplay footage at all.
