@Corvus96 I had the advantage of being left handed, so using the stylus with my left hand to aim while my right hand hit face buttons and triggers was very easy. My entire family is right-handed except for me, they hated the game with a passion haha
Not what I expected to be added next, what with the dozens of incredible soundtracks, hopefully this isn't a trend. I don't want to wait months on end for the next Zelda or Metroid soundtrack to drop.
And before anyone says, yes, the soundtrack to a classic game is one of the major nostalgia factories, one of the main reasons I come back to a game. I've completed my N64 collection dozens of times, it's not a challenge anymore, but those sounds, that music, the feel of your favourite classic title, it's almost always lost in these remasters, and it's such a shame the original version couldn't have been bundled in with the rest.
A real shame that not all version of the game were considered when crafting this, as the superior N64 soundtrack has vanished. Shame, really want to relive the nostalgia of a classic N64 title, but this is the PC port.
All I hope is that the N64 soundtrack is untouched. I don't want a remastered version, I don't need a remake, I just need the original. Stoked for this to release, highlight of the direct for me!
This is a Gamecube game in my eyes, so to have it look better than my beloved original is fantastic! I could care less for visual flair, it's the quality of life upgrades I'm interested in, and Switch has them all!
I have epilepsy, I can't play 60FPS without getting horrible motion sickness, so games that allow me the option of upping the flare for a locked 30FPS experience are a Godsend, they really are, and I can't think of a reason why a voluntary option you can simply ignore if you want is such a sticking point. If you wouldn't use it, it wasn't made for you, but someone else, possibly someone you know in person or in real life, is having a blast because those options allow them to.
They should be as common as accessibility options and broad enough to suit every kind of player, which might sound like a lot, but believe me it isn't. PC gamers can already cap the framerate of almost every game they play through their graphics card, this should be standard across all home consoles.
The first game was hard because you had basically zero controls to avoid taking damage, and felt unfinished in a huge way. My guess is this is just more of the same, dressed up with additional but fundamentally useless abilities.
Well, my favourite game of all time runs at 20 FPS, and in this day and age, I really don't think 30 FPS is a negative, especially if the game is designed with that in mind.
@smithyo Just a heads up, there are no maps in the game and getting lost can get frustrating, so I would download a world map (without icons that spoil secrets, collectables, etc...) to make the experience as fun as possible. Besides that, game is a banger!
For people wondering if it's worth it to get online, think to yourself whether there's a whole years worth of gaming and DLCs to enjoy, because if not, might be worth waiting for such a discount, or for a birthday to get a year for free from a relative. I play Starfox 64 a few times a week, and I enjoy going through the NES library, since I wasn't born when those games came out. I've been on for two years and I'm nearing the end of games I want to play, so I might give it a rest for a while. Always best to demo games where you can.
My first direct where I didn't have at least one game I wanted to play, but that was bound to happen eventually. Glad to see so many happy people on the socials, and especially in this comments section and on youtube, gonna be a fun few months of anticipation, just wish they could have confirmed a few non-Nintendo games for N64.
@Casco It doesn't, pressing down two buttons at the same time is easy and the window is massive. I made over 100 diamonds in less than two minutes, picking up the five I dropped each time, not once failed it and I am NO speedrunner on any level.
@iNintendo It's a patch, and with so little in the way of new and original content (compared to the DLCs already released), I'd be surprised if they charged for it. In the past they've done these massive patches for free, so I wouldn't expect that to change.
When I saw this was getting a remaster I felt instantly bad for the team doing it, because it deserves a full remake. Now with Metroid Prime Remastered showing us just what can be achieved with a remaster, it looks even worse. A full HD remake of this game with modern development standards, and you're looking at game of the year contender, easily!
Great trailer, and so happy to see more from the League of Legends world, it's got entirely too much going on to be restricted to a couple of games and a tv show. Of those shown, Convergence looks like my cup of tea, but I'm gonna keep my eye on them all for sure!
For the purpose of it being a film, rather than a Nintendo-made product, it's perfect. Really liking how this is shaping up, and after the cast reveal, I never thought I'd be saying that!
@BeefSanta Since no one replied to this, to gee is to encourage something to move forward. Usually it's used when training horses, but it's been used by mechanics when working on a seriously damaged vehicle as well. Geed is the past tense of gee.
It's quite old-fashioned by todays language, but my parents use it all the time, likely rubbed off on the reviewer as well.
For the annual price of £34.99 I get to play all my favourite games from my childhood, AND more are coming in the future. I know it's not for everyone, but it was great value for me from day one, as I was too young for the NES and SNES, and getting those in addition to N64 and Megadrive has been a blast!
I think I'll wait for a sale. I want to play as Knuckles through all of these games again, but I own these games on sooooooo many platforms already, it's just not worth it. Besides, this should have been done with Mania graphics... a missed opportunity.
This is how to do a game! Release it as a complete package, then give players some free updates with new modes, new difficulties, boss rush, etc...
I think the industry has an over-reliance on DLC and it hurts when a half a game is released to mediocre reviews, only to get better with money. We already pay quite a bit for our games, just give us them complete, then chuck in the cosmetics, the ultra hard modes and the additional soundtracks for the price of admission. If we like what we see, and we want more, then is the time for DLC, not before.
I think it's fine if you want that added layer of strategy, but very bland if you don't. I'm one of the latter, couldn't care less for it, but how, in all the Mario Kart games since, has Double Dash not been added as a permanent toggle in grand prix, vs and online play? It would satisfy both camps, and brand new courses could even feature alternate routes if Double Dash is enabled, it could be brilliant!
(by toggle I mean selecting 50cc, for example, whilst holding down a shoulder button that changes the overlay to 50cc Double Dash, enabling brand new karts, new kites, new tag teams and new tag team items)
As an additional mode, it'll bring it so many players! But they should dive into the idea with a unique map, specifically designed with no building in mind. I see some people concerned it'll replace normal fortnite, that's simply never going to happen.
I find MM the hardest game to get into, and through numerous attempts I've never made it more than an hour in. That said, from a design perspective, it's easily one of the best classic Zelda games ever made, if not THE best. How they finished it so quickly is beyond me!
@Olliemar28 I hear you, but for me, what goes into the city is part of the design brief as much as the architecture and layout. I would never turn in an empty, or mostly empty city, and realistically keep my job, I'd be submitting NPC's, merchants, quest lines, secrets, ideas for mini-games (if appropriate) and other things to that effect.
GX was fundamentally better in every way for me, but the difficulty curve is just... unplayable after a point. For the layman at least, and I'm certainly no pro!
There's a distinct lack of character and atmosphere in this entire showcase, but I generally approve of a remake/remaster. If it turns heads and gets people talking, awesome, but I really doubt we'll see any kind of return for these two.
City feels lifeless does it? Then it isn't well-designed... seriously these pros and cons of late should be proof-read before publishing, they contradict one another!
Nice to see an honest campaign manager telling it as it is, really refreshing from some of the... less authentic campaigns I've seen, and nearly backed.
@MrHonest Recently perhaps not, but across the entire span of the genre, there's literally nothing to say but slow clap all the small teams around the world whose ideas are now bleeding into triple-a blockbusters.
@JustMonika Visual novels have a very limited audience, it wouldn't make sense to include them here. Besides, it's difficult to persuade gamers to pick up a title already knowing it features almost no gameplay, and the vast majority of the experience is reading. I haven't played a single visual novel title that wouldn't benefit from being built within an adventure game, with a world to explore, new stories to find in NPC's, additional chapters hidden in secret areas, etc. Look at Disco Elysium, that took the visual novel and elevated it into something truly special... until they all do that, I doubt we'll see too many in showcases, even if they have absolutely incredible stories!
@MrHonest I guess you didn't play during the SNES/Megadrive era? Indie games are simple modern games trying to recapture the magic of those consoles and the incredible libraries they each had, whilst introducing new ideas, mechanics, art styles and ways to tell rich and interesting stories. If you're not into that... like, what games do you play? Or do you insist on next gen graphics before you even consider a game, cause that remains the dumbest argument for why triple-a games are better than indies.
Concept is cool, setting is cool, animations look a little sluggish, graphics look a tad uninspired and the trailer has zero energy. I had an idea of what I wanted, so far this isn't it.
It's either release them when they're ready to go, or sit on a bunch of games until you have enough to satiate the players with a massive update. I really don't care which it is, I'm enjoying the hell out of my old favourites again!

Metroid Prime Hunters was a great little game, with a very clever, perhaps unintuitive at first, but brilliant control scheme.
