Update: iam8bit has now confirmed that the standard physical editions of Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps for Nintendo Switch will launch on 8th December. Both physical editions will retail for $39.99 / €39.99 and are available for pre-order at retailers around the globe starting today.
You can see how they're planned to look in the image below, and don't forget about the special Collector's Edition also in the works!
Original Article (Tue 22nd Sep, 2020 07:45 BST): Last week, Moon Studios' highly praised platform-adventure game Ori and the Will of the Wisps got a surprise release on the Nintendo Switch.
A gorgeous collector's edition was also announced (containing both games was announced) by iam8bit, and it will set you back $150. If you don't want all the extra goodies, though, the good news both games are getting stand physical releases at select retailers later this year:
According to Nintendo Everything, iam8bit has narrowed down the physical release date. It will reportedly be arriving this December. Obviously, both games in their standalone form will cost a lot less than the collector's edition.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is available now (digitally) for $29.99 / €29.99. Have you been holding out for physical versions of these games on the Nintendo Switch? Leave a comment down below.

Yup, we had this discussion on the article about the collectors edition.
Not really news to be fair, more olds
As much as I'd like the collector's edition but the price (including conversion and shipping) is too much to ask for, so I'll wait for the physical releases.
Saw this news, reminded me to buy the collector's edition.
Being a collector ain't cheap. @valkian24 yeah… I'd figure, If I don't like it anymore, surely someone else will buy it from me? I was too tempted…
Im in too minds as I like to buy physical copies of games I like.
I picked up the Original because of the positive reviews and thought it was a tad overrated.......style over substance.
I was undecided whether to pick up the sequel at launch due to my disappointment ay the Original.........but I took the gamble this weekend.
Im really enjoying it........far more than the original despite some of the increase in mechanically difficult platforming (thats more fustrating than enjoyable)
When it come to retail......Id only really want the sequel but feel obliged to pick up the original if I picked the sequel.
Saying that Im in the UK.....and have been avoiding imports since covid (I couldnt resist Megaman zero collection)
But I dont think I like the first one enough to import....and I won't pick up the sequel on its own.
So unless its getting a UK/EU release.....I think my stance om the retail versions have already been decided for me.
So glad. Great games deserves to be physical.
What a couple of master pieces we've got here. We're lucky to have this saga on Switch. One of the best of the Xbox One.
This is good news, I was looking at the collectors edition but it’s just far too much (and I don’t have any use for the extra stuff you get with it)
As far as I know iam8bit doesn't handle European retail releases so I'm curious to see if this makes its way over to us. Would love a physical copy!
@Hexatrik
Do they atleast do shipping to Europe? Importing it would cost more than a straight Europe release, but personally I don't mind biting that bullet with really awesome games like these.
At the very least I'm happy there's a regular physical release coming, because oh boy! That collector's edition is pricey! >.<
This makes me happy, now if only Cuphead had a physical release.
This is great news as i was tempted to buy these digitally. Glad i held off now.
No pal/UK release I'm guessing
This a double pack or full price 2 single editions?
I had a hunch they'd do a standard physical release.
Still, I don't get why companies are prone to launching collector's edition now, standard physical later. Probably just getting the impulse buyers going.
@Tangerine @Hexatrik
Two iam8bit published games are getting EU retail releases, Sayonara Wild Hearts, and Untitled Goose Game.
You can pre-order them on sites like Amazon or 365games, so I'm expecting that the two Ori games will likely get the same treatment.
@NinjaSyao They do ship to Europe, but it's around $20 just for shipping and I'm honestly not willing to pay that.
EDIT: @RupeeClock That's amazing, I had no idea! Fingers crossed for Ori!
@Hexatrik Yeah, that's a bit pricey indeed... well, let's hope we get a physical release here as well in that case >.>
RupeeClock's comment does give some hope for that happening ^_^
@RupeeClock Thanks. I already have those two games preordered
Fingers crossed you are right about ori uk release!
I tried the demo of the first but it failed to grab me. The opening prologue was heartwarming and heart wrenching but when the gameplay started, it felt like one of the many atmospheric puzzle platforms that dominated the indie scene last gen and just kept on making me want to stop playing.
Nonetheless I feel I should give it another chance before the standard edition is released to see whether it is worth purchasing.
@Creature Hollow Knight is yet another game I stopped playing after a while and need to head back too some day. I think the lack of a map (can’t remember if you can unlock one or it just wasn’t that good a map) was a major issue as I hate just meandering around looking.
Woohoo! So glad I waited!
@FX102A I just got back into hollow knight after ditching it for a year. So glad I did. It gets better and better the more I play.
@Burntbreadman I preferred the second one too - I found the controls a little floaty in the first one but it seems tighter in the sequel.
@FX102A you get a map in each area when you find Cornifer. You need to equip a charm to show your exact location which I always had to do as I'm terrible at navigating.
One of my favorite games! Collector`s edition is too expensive, though. No one should have to buy it at that price.
So glad I didn’t pull the trigger on the collector’s edition. I really wanted the physical versions, but $150 was a bit ridiculous.
@Friendly I can still feel the temptation at times, and this is definitely one of them, but I quit identifying myself as a collector, I quit "wanting" and "needing" all that useless expensive stuff, and I must say, it's a burden off of my shoulders, a freedom both mentally and financially, and I don't want to know how many times I wasted the cost of my cabin forest land on being a collector... It was such an addiction, that even when I didn't really play any games anymore (which I now do again), I still needed to grow that collection.
@Shambo you’re a wise person .
I might follow in your footsteps soon!
I already have the first game digitally and feel no need to double-dip, but I'd definitely pick up a physical edition of Will of the Wisps.
I'm happy to here, there will be standard physical releases of the Ori games, coming to the Nintendo Switch. The games look like a lot of fun and it'll be great to have copies of them, sitting on my shelve.
Glad to hear it! I wanted both games on Switch but physical not digital and $150 for the switch collector's edition is too much for me right now. I bought Ori and the Will of the Wisps collector's edition for my Xbox one X and have the original also. I'll gladly double dip to have these games on my favorite console😀. Now I need a physical copy of Cuphead please.
Yeah, what a relief! I was starting to get worried that they wouldn't release a retail version at all
I have them both digitally. I try to buy physical, but I just want to play games, and waiting for months just to get the physical doesn't make sense to me if I'm not an avid collector.
Loving Will of the Wisps even more than the original, though I have had 2 game crashes and a time when I warped and then couldn't move the character without exiting to the main menu. About 5 hours played. I didn't have any crashes with the original on Switch.
Is that each, or both in one package? Standard edition, I mean.
@janpampoen each, unfortunately
@velve Boo! That blows. Guess I'll wait.
What retailers? Hoping best buy. Need to use $20 in rewards prior to expiration
I was hoping that it would be vcd a 2 pack and not separate.
thats a massive price hike for physical
@ozwally 30 bucks extra for both? Seems reasonable
These looks incredible, going to get both for sure!
@Mrd8202 blind forest seems too pricey, £15 on shop or £40 physical, massive difference however I’m still likely to get both
If both would have been on one cart I might have bought it. Now I'll just wait till the sequel get discounted (I have played the first one on Switch).
Day one for me!
That's nice. They're pretty beefy games.
I was excited that they'd be on 1 cart.
Guess not.
I was interested in the CE but my jaw dropped when I saw the price. What were they thinking? I've already played Ori 1 on PC but I'll happily buy the regular edition of Ori 2 after seeing how impressive the Switch conversion is.
2 games in 1 and I'd be interested, individual releases though, not a chance.
@Retro_Player_77
I've heard Cuphead will get a physical release, after they released the upcoming DLC pack.
@the_beaver People keep calling them masterpieces... and I agree on the art style being super rich, and the port being excellent... also the gameplay seems really solid from the brief time I’ve spent with the original demo... but are they really THAT fun? Masterpieces? I honestly want to know. I’m only sort of into the art, so I’m hoping that there is some seriously satisfying and creative platforming to be has here as well... and also hoping the story isn’t too weird and and trying to be all sentimental deep when it’s such weird unrelatable, kind of abstract world...
Well, not hating, may actually pick these up, so any thoughts are appreciated. 🙂🤙
In what's likely an unpopular opinion, I'd much prefer both games as a standard release in one package.
@BlubberWhale I thought exactly the same when I started the first game.
I just tell you: if you like metroidvanias, go for them!
Sounds good but I think I've overloaded myself on Switch Metroidvanias (both digital and physical).
@the_beaver Alright cool, and thanks! Yeah guess I better play them! (sooner or later...)
Speaking of Metroidvanias... looking forward to Mystik Belle and Winter Belle coming to Switch! 😛
@Shadowthrone
It's not unreasonable, people enjoy compilation releases all the time.
The download sizes for each game is 3599 MB and 4444 MB respectively. Whilst the second game is too larger for a 4096 MB cartridge, the two games together would fit on a single 8196 MB cartridge.
That's just file size though, the actual cost of the software is a separate thing, and they might have a more difficult time selling a single cartridge with both games at a representative cost, than selling individual games at their individual costs.
As a Canadian I can scarcely complain about lack of access to products, at least those hitting the Western and global markets. Even so, I am still waiting on a freakin' physical retail copy of Celeste.
Kudos therefore to Video Games Plus for being the first and only retailer in Canada so far to list these titles (as standard retail editions). Always satisfying to see the smaller retailers beat sleepy EB Games and Best Buy to the punch!
(* You're welcome. The cheque is in the mail, right, guys?)
Never played this game till the Switch. The first one that is; yet to touch the second one. The 1st one- the game play requires either a glass of wine or a good beer as so reliant on game mechanics that you yearn for the moments of just plain shoot and run while not standing in fire/purple/green stuff. Both seemed loved, but I find the game too reliant on mechanics to point at times predictably sets in that when you do have a boss fight that is just a fight it reminds you there is a story here.
Yall should really post who has these for preorder
Literally a dream come true.
Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori Will of the Wisps are two of my all time faves. Especially the second one, which has amazing combat. First didn’t have bad combat, but it wasn’t thrilling. Combat in the 2nd is actually thrilling.
Getting these games on Switch, both of them, is a dream come true. Getting physical copies of each in a super awesome collector edition? Man... lemme tell ya
Soooooooo glad I waited. These obviously deserve a place in the stack.
Where can these be pre-ordered in the U.S.? I checked with GameStop and Best Buy and neither have them up yet.
This should have been a $60 double pack. They know most people want BOTH games...this way they get to charge an extra $20..but is it really worth it?
@RupeeClock I hadn't even thought of them being on the same cart I was thinking a dual-cart package (with a higher price point, since it's both).
Where exactly can I pre-order these? I don’t see them anywhere online.
@Valdney I was asking the same question. No preorders up for the regular physical editions anywhere that I can find.
and they are Pre-ordered.
Excited to finally play these
I ordered the beautiful collectors edition from Iam8bit. Going to look nice sitting on my shelf this Xmas. I also have both digitally on the switch. Such great games .
@Stocksy sold separately or as a whole with the collectors set at iam8bit.com. If you wanted the collectors set but didn't order early September, you won't get it until next year.
