Dark Dungeon-Crawler 'Mistover' Being Removed From Sale At End Of June

I might pick it up if there's a firesale.

The artstyle reminded me of Etrian Odyssey, but the demo made sure I steered clear of this one.

You'd think they'd put this on a steep steep sale to nab as much money as they can before it's pulled from the service.

The odd thing is that ArcSys only published the game in Japan, so the only thing that should be an issue outside of the country is maybe the Faust DLC, which honestly seems like a simple fix of just changing the character to an original one Krafton would own.

In any case, I'm hoping this is only temporary, and the game eventually gets republished/licensed so people can still enjoy it.

In the meantime, there were physical copies for PS4 and Switch in Japan, so I'll probably see if I could get one of those if I can't get a digital copy before June 30th.

@Takoda my exact experience with it. And because of the artstyle reminding me of EO, I really wanted to like it. I want EO on Switch in some way. I then picked up Labyrinth of Refrain, physical at the official website of the European publisher, for far less then the eshop price had ever been on sale, and loved it (after getting over the initially REALLY unlikable main character).

@Shambo Labyrinth of Refrain is one I'd maybe give a try if I didn't have some Etrian and Etrian-likes still left in my backlog, haha. I'm a big fan of the series but I've got quite a few left to play. Didn't Atlus tease a new Etrian Odyssey game being in the works a long while back?? Hopefully it'll see the light of day soon, it's been too long.

Damn. But as always in such cases, kudos where due for an advance heads-up, at least (and of course, some to NL for properly reporting it). A sale on top might be too much to hope for (seeing as the last one happened two years ago), but late June should find me with enough scheduled income to accommodate the 33 bucks required (the pack with the DLC included).

@Takoda I do hope you're right and I just somehow missed it! I'm almost done with V and hope Nexus will see a deep sale before the eshop gets shut down (not paying current physical prices for it).
If you like making characters and formations in EO, you'll definitely like LoR, for every slot that would fit a character in EO, you can eventually fit a 'coven', basically a formation of its own, with different coven types giving different advantages and disadvantages, and allowing several custom characters each, without it getting too complicated, as the game slowly expands your possibilities. Some 40 hours in it still introduces new ways to customise your by then small army of custom characters. And puts you face to face with (some optional) bosses (with some very unique designs) that just obliterate your squad if you're insufficiently prepared, without taking away from me enjoying it.
Tried a few others 'they' told me were great, but few were that memorable. Still many to try as well though. If you know a really good one, feel free to tell me

Is this a live service game? It mentions "the service", is why I'm wondering. If it's a full game that would be completely playable if you download it before it's removed, that's 1 thing, but if there are actual servers that will be taken offline, making some of the game inaccessible, also, that's a different issue, in my eyes. It's probably not something I'd play, anyways, but having accurate details is still important for people making decisions on whether to buy it, IMO.

I’m so confused by their announcement that service is ending. This game doesn’t have any online services and is purely single player.

I considered picking up the retail Asian version (with eng) but was put up by reviews.

Part of me wants to pick it up (FOMO) and even added it to the basket after reading this article.
But I realise Id be breaking vow to only buy stuff I want to play (generally Im a sucker to dirt cheap games just because they are cheap. Buying due to FOMO is probaby just as bad)

Oh that sounds really promising! Besides the Persona Q and Persona Q2 spin-offs on 3DS I don't know any that immediately come to mind, but I'll put LoR on my wishlist now to see for myself!

@Takoda Thanks! Played and loved and still have both Persona Q games. Those dungeon themes were amazing, and some of LoR's themes more closely resemble those weirder ones. I saw it has a sequel, but no word about in coming to Switch as far as I'm aware.

Good news, the sequel has been released on switch in Japan already at this point, so hopefully it'll make it's way over here soon too. Always nice to meet a fellow Etrian Odyssey fan! If I come across any good Etrian-likes I'll throw a recommendation your way.

The art style looks really cool. Drop it to a couple bucks and you have a sale...or don't and see no money at all from it. Seems an easy choice one would think but I guess not. Maybe they're hoping to get some panic "omg it's going away" buys like with the 3ds you fellas keep pushing.

Damn, well if nothing else I greatly appreciate the heads up. I'll wait and see if it goes on sale before it vanishes, though I might just as well get it even without it. It looks intriguing enough that I would hate to never have access to it.

If it's singleplayer only then get it on gog and you'll actually have it for life. Well, unless you lose the installation files.

A limited time contract on a single player game with an original IP? That's...unique.
I feel there might be more to the story than they're letting on at the moment.

Great game for awhile, it has nice graphics and some definite cross-over with Darkest Dungeon in terms of the town dynamics and the ever encroaching threats of evil. It does have a drop off point where you feel like you've seen everything; this does come rather early unfortunately due to the boring nature of the labyrinths which you traverse. Also the mechanism of grinding out quests for modest advancement of the storyline can become a poor return on time invested.

I will say that I went into it for the reasons advertised: stylish hand-drawn graphics, a unique slate of themed classes, and the rogue-like exploration mechanics. On these fronts I mostly enjoyed the game and do feel that I will return to it again from time to time.

I tried the demo some time back. It was ok. Very good art style. Maybe I'll buy it if there will be a going away sale for it.

@cowntsikin those in charge of the selling appear to be taking a stingy approach; perhaps the license issue at stake has their hands tied in some fashion when it comes to making price changes.

Only a theory though.

@Ryu_Niiyama I played the demo before and after reading this news I bought the Dr. Fausts bundle and I must say I really enjoy it. It can be a tough cookie but I always think it's fair (my mistake) if my characters die.
And an important thing you might want to take in your consideration. People have been complaining about the Doomsday Clock (you have to meet certain objectives within a set timeframe), I can say after I bought the full version I was confronted with a large option menu that gave allot of options to tweak the game. And I mean a big lot of options including disabling the Doomsday Clock.
So if the time constraint mechanic is something that turns you off from the game (it was the biggest thing holding me back to be honest, but I decided well h*ll I'll buy it anyway if it's disappearing from the shop) then I can tell you, you don't have to worry about it. Because now you can turn that off in the option menu.

If by constrained gameplay you mean the time restraint by the Doomsday Clock ticking away (pressuring you to do thing in certain time) I have played the demo as well and after reading this article I thought I'm going to pick up the Dr. Fausts bundle anyway before it goes away.
And I was pleasantly surprised by a large amount of option for tweaking the game to you personal wishes, including disabling the Doomsday Clock feature.
So all I'm saying if that's the feature which is holding you back from purchasing it, you might want to reconsider because like I said you can disable that feature in the options menu.
I bought the game and can honestly say I enjoy the game a whole lot.
