Update [Tue 7th Mar, 2023 18:00 GMT]: After last month's teaser, Riot Forge and Digital Sun have announced that The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story will be launching on Switch pretty darn soon, on 18th April 2023 (via Gematsu).
The game will be available on the Switch eShop for $29.99USD / £24.99, or you can shell out $39.99USD for the Digital Deluxe edition. Fans will also be able to bag a Collector's Edition for $169.99USD which includes a statue, a unique comic, an art book, an art print, enamel pins, and an exclusive vinyl version of the soundtrack.
We've also got a brand new gameplay trailer, screenshots, and an official description from the game's store page:
Developed by Digital Sun, creators of Moonlighter, The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story™ is an action RPG that takes place in the League of Legends universe. In the kingdom of Demacia, the Mageseekers hold the power to oppress magic-using citizens in the name of public order–by inducting and indoctrinating them, locking them away, or driving them into hiding.
Play as Sylas, a spell-stealing mage who has just broken free of his unjust captivity at the Mageseekers’ hands. Wielding the chains that once bound you, you must liberate your homeland from tyranny, one Mageseeker at a time.
It’s time to unshackle the magic.
Command the Magic
Magic is everywhere, including on the battlefield. From searing flames to deadly ice, master a variety of spells and customize your unique play style. Brandish your chains and use your enemies’ magic against them, or bash them with your fists–the choice is yours.
Raise a Rebellion
Demacia is ripe for a revolution, but can you rise to the challenge of leading it? It’s up to you to find mages across the land and recruit them to your cause. Harness the power of your growing army to upgrade your base and unlock unique abilities.
Forge Your Legacy
You see the Mageseekers for the criminals they are, but not everyone is ready for the truth. Battle formidable foes and align with unforgettable allies, both new and old. Only you can uncover the buried secrets of Demacia’s past, and use them to change the course of its future.
We don't have long to wait until we get to return to the League of Legends world, then. For more details on the original teaser, including a hint at LoL's future, check out our original story below...
Original article [Wed 15th Feb, 2023 19:00 GMT]: Riot Forge has announced a brand new spin-off to the hugely popular MOBA League of Legends today. The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story launches on Switch (and other consoles) in Spring 2023, and it's a stunning "hi-bit" pixel art action RPG created by Digital Sun, the developer of the equally-gorgeous Moonlighter.
Teased in Riot Forge's "The Year Ahead" trailer, The Mageseeker sees you building an army of rogue mages to lead a revolution in the kingdom of Demacia. Set in the world of Runeterra, a world where certain magic is forbidden, you'll be on a quest for vengeance as the mage Sylas.
That's pretty much all we have to go on at the moment, besides the brief snippet of gameplay we see in the above trailer, but it looks a fair bit different from other League of Legends spin-offs. And Digital Sun's forte in lovely pixel art, as demonstrated in Moonlighter, looks like it's on full display here.
Other than that, Digital Forge also revealed release windows for two other League of Legends games that are coming to Switch this year, making 2023 a bumper year for the franchise. CONVERGENCE: A League of Legends Story from Double Stallion Games (Speed Brawl) is launching in Summer 2023, while Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story by Tequila Works (RiME) will come to Switch in Fall 2023.
Are you excited to see more League of Legends on Switch in 2023? Let us know in the comments.
I have heard this game but never played before. Good trailer!
Great trailer, and so happy to see more from the League of Legends world, it's got entirely too much going on to be restricted to a couple of games and a tv show. Of those shown, Convergence looks like my cup of tea, but I'm gonna keep my eye on them all for sure!
Don’t know anything about this franchise but it looks cool. Will wait on reviews.
I'm glad to see League of Legends branching out more these last few years. I might try the Nunu game out. Looks like a chill action platformer. But what I'm most excited for are the MMO and fighting game.
Will be interesting to see what this game will be about or if it's only Sylas escaping the demacian jail and murdering demacian soldiers.
I just want Ruined King on physical, that hame was pretty good.
Awesome. LoL Ruined King was great.
Really can't wait for season 2 of Arcane though. Even with no interest in LoL, that show is the pinnacle of animation.
I like their spinoff games more than the main game.
It looks interesting. Tho tbh it's kinda hard to see the way it's presented in pieces of glass like that.
Reminds me of Children of Mortia expect with a big IP and more expensive. An awesome pixel-art roguelike action RPG that doesn't get nearly enough love.
Mmm no I'll pass.
This game looks pretty interesting. Never did get into the main League of Legends game but this might get me into that world cause I like RPGs.
This just makes me want to play Hyper Light Drifter finally, sorry LoL
Doing some digging, and not a single place is confirming a physical cart.
So any physical collectors out there; Tread carefully. This may just be a digital code.
And really, all links I can provide is quite literally the same PR copy/pasted. So no reason to bother spamming links this time, but that may be troublesome for some people here.
Eh, sort of. Doesn't quite hit it for me. The art is gorgeous!
I'm not a fan of League of Legends itself but I love the world building from the anime and the spinoff games have looked quite interesting. I'll definitely keep an eye out for reviews of this one.
